Tencent is developing multiple competing projects inspired by Palworld

>In a new report from Bloomberg, creative teams at Tencent are allegedly developing new mobile games directly influenced by Palworld. The report cites anonymous sources, who claim that TiMi and Lightspeed are building mobile games “replete with pet companions and stylized violence”. These upcoming games will reportedly “combine open-world, survival and crafting elements with the nurture of virtual pets”.

>Tencent is pursuing “multiple, competing projects”, so it’s unclear if TiMi or Lightspeed will be the final creative force. Palworld was a massive success, reaching 25 million players last month. The game continues to expand, as the developers just recently teased the first Raid featuring Bellanoir. So, it’s no surprise that Tencent wants to follow in Palworld’s footsteps. Tencent’s vast resources could introduce even more fan-requested features that an indie studio would struggle to develop. However, it’s unclear if Palworld will still have enough steam by the time Tencent’s mobile projects release for them to be surefire hits. Some players considered Palworld a simple trend, and there was a lot of discourse about its similarities to Pokémon. Tencent did not confirm anything officially, and it has not issued an official response to Bloomberg’s report at this time.

Good anything that pressures and forces gamefreak to improve is a good thing.

Either they improve their quality or they die by letting the chinese steal their golden goose.

Gamefreak won't be pressured unless their next mainline Pokemon game underperform.

The Switch Pokemon games already are. If you ignore ORAS and USUM Gens 6 and 7 sold about 16M each. Gens 8 and 9 sold about 24M each. Looks like an improvement, yes? Except every other Switch iteration of a long running Nintendo IP saw explosive growth, sometimes hitting +200% of the previous entry. They were expecting a 40M sale gen and instead got 24M.

          Anonymous

That's fricking dumb because Pokémon was already insanely popular before.
The other IPs got a bigger % increase because they were a lot more niche before.

          >They were expecting a 40M sale gen and instead got 24M.
Pure bullshit, they never said anything close to that

No they don't. Stop forcing this bullshit shitposting cope about percentages like you do in famitsu threads you mongoloid moron.
          Also:
          - they sold 26 and 25 millions
          - "they were expecting 40" no they don't otherwise post a sources
          - Mario Wii sold 30 million but Mario Odyssey 27.By your logic it's a flop

Or they're just using the shotgun approach?

    rip-offs ripping off rip-offs

well if a piece of shit indie game like palworld isn't enough to scare pokémon then maybe a more polished game from chinks will. it's ridiculous that game freak has been allowed to release dumpster fires for so long

They should make a version of Pal World that actually looks like it takes place in the Pokemon world (aka rural Japan), as opposed to generic survival island. That'd be sick.

Well Tencent owns 30% of Larian Studios so maybe Larian's next game will be this pallworld clone?

Too late for that, treating Palworld like some massive paradigm shift for the industry instead of the well-timed FotM it was is a fatal mistake.
