I know its an excuse. But its EA so its going to get better byt yea I give it a 7 as well. The interconnected mechanics of the game is really nice, I do find the earth gameplay alittle repetitive but once the space gameplay opens up, there is much more to do. Overall, better than paracuck games. I love playing as the servants and preparing for the alien arrival to support them. It's like a whole different game when you play the extreme faction ideologies.

I'm hoping they improve the UI because rn I have to fight with it to find stuff.

Doesn't seem any worse than Paradox games.

        Anonymous

Paradox games don't have shit like waiting for lockdowns to end and then immediately the AI swoops in and relocks before you can even finish a crackdown. Meanwhile the same rules do not apply to your control points.
There's no way to time shit. If you could do things like "begin crackdown on the 8th" or something, it'd be different, but you're either too early or too late over and over again. I have a Black person sitting on a control point in Germany, and I can't bring Germany into the EU because of it.

          Anonymous

Only way to deal with it is by hording orgs that give your council members bonuses to their stats. Basically just buy your way to 25 in stats. Weirdly enough the best thing to level is admin so you can just keep loading up on orgs. Admin also raises your cap.

            Anonymous

Yeah, I've noticed this too. It's another thing buried in the mechanics. At first I was like "admin can't be that important, can it?" Then I got admin capped locked, and I was like "yep, it's that important."
And then you need a certain org to unlock a project research slot, but I CANNOT find out which orgs give you that slot so I just end up guessing.

              Anonymous

Any org that gives an engineering project counts for that. I believe its the little +gear icon on the org.

Maybe something like if you control all the sites on a planet you can turn the whole planet into its own nation. Of course it would only be a thing on significant bodies. Maybe also only ones that have some amount of all resources.

IIRC they mentioned that being a thing on their "roadmap".
The question is will the ethnicities and names of councillors spawned from a space-nation just be a mix of those from nations with space programs, biased by amount of boost produced?
Will space just be filled with Russians, Chinese and Americans?

The devs have have a 'Future Foothold" scenario in the works. Set around 2070 where humanity has colonized the inner system.
All we know is that the devs said this will require a new system of national ownership over orbital assets and how to integrate that into the game. As it stands, due to the invasion and timescale its assumed that the "official" owners of orbital assets are groups like NASA, ESA, ROSCOSMOS, CNSA or IRSO (or their national military equilivants or some pseudo stuff), however this won't work when there are pre-existing orbital assets.

      "Abandon Nation"
You don't lose the control point, but it doesn't cost you anything and it's easier for others to take. So there's a chance you could keep it without wasting your cap on it if you need to keep it for other purposes later. Though you also don't get any resources from it while it's abandoned.

Bad RNG and the AI factions tend to be really good at snatching up orgs. I believe most "purge" orgs are criminal based one's as well.

Things were moving towards actual simulation in the 90s and 00s, then games started getting shit again with more UI and a return to game systems design of three decades ago as if progress never happened.

The most efficient way to make money is playing the game like v2.
Take a bunch of african shitholes and exploit the shit out of them with only spoils on and abandon them so they don't take up control points. It's best done early on because the AI pretty much ignores them for the most part but it's quick money at any point. Also start investing in funding in your richest country. Even 5 points in adds up over time.

i spent my first 6 months taking over africa because it was a quick territory gap, how badly have i fricked this? is it possible to turn them around somehow?

6 months is a long time of not having a major powers resources or not working towards acquiring USA/China. You probably want to decide if you feel like you can fight over Canada and Mexico to eventually get into USA or if the AI is too entrenched. If you can get into them, USA is fairly easy to acquire, and they're both fairly solid nations on their own. China requires a long term concentrated investment which you probably can't afford right now.

Not quite. The resistance just want to make these ayys leave. They don't even want to really counterattack.

Well they are the default Xcom style faction. Being generic is kind of the point. HF are supposed to be more of an "ends justify the means" faction that are willing to firebomb an entire city to kill one alien infiltrator or a handful of alien sympathizers. Problem is that a human player will end up playing both factions the exact same way since only a moron would let the nukes fly and tank the global GDP and population count when playing anti alien.

The idea that someone would decide to join the anti-ayylmao faction but decide they want to hinder their chances of success by abiding by a moral code is comical. There's no way they're not intented to be moronic.

This actually is one of the problems to consider. There's the people who just want to defend humanity and then there's the people who want to destroy everything that isn't humanity. This is mostly the result of how bad of a job the aliens did when they made first contact. Humanity drew the lines in the sand when all they had to go off of was one crashed ship. They could have been nice aliens and HF would have still formed because nobody knew better.

                Dark forest theory is moronic.
As soon as you shoot you make yourself known to everyone else. The entire forest would immediately erupt into one giant firefight, so to speak.
Also, there is no "hiding," most especially not from stronger ones. All it takes is one telescope pointed at your system to find you, like a guy with night vision or infrared slowly scanning the forest.

Dark Forest is even worse when you realize how exoplanets are found in the first place. Alien civilizations can detect the oxygen in our atmosphere VERY easily. According to the Dark Forest theory, we should be dead right now. Aliens would fire on any planet with an atmosphere that is obviously biologically influenced. But nope, here we are.

Really it is just some Chink author who, like all PRC bugmen, thinks that the world is so mean and hostile and that they should just stay in their Middle Kingdom where it is safe and their government will take care of them forever. Don't go out into the world, mean western barbarians live there. That's the true Dark Forest analogy. The usual Asian "nail that sticks out gets hammered down" crab in a bucket mentality. It is EXTREMELY unlikely any alien thinks like this, more likely they will discover our planet and say "cool", then move on with their lives.

We are also using human minds to consider inhuman scenarios. When humans think of aliens they usually just reflect their own way of thinking. From people who care too much about animals who think aliens would put us in a reserve or something to people who are misanthropic and think aliens will genocide us.

You're right, but it also is a stupid answer to the Great Filter. "Why haven't we found aliens yet?" "BECAUSE ANY ALIEN RACE THAT IS DETECTED IS INSTANTLY KILLED!"
It's the rantings of a crazy person, because the next question - "why would they be instantly killed?" - is never really answered. The universe has an obscene amount of resources available, the likes of which we'd can never dream, and yet aliens waste large amounts of time and effort building fantastic doomsday weapons to prevent other races from MAYBE taking those resources. There is no resource scarcity in space. Just go somewhere else. We don't see stars dimming from aliens sucking them dry, or see any megastructures. We see nothing. That's the actual Great Filter problem, and then some stupid chink comes along with a stupid answer and everyone acts like it is the best science fiction ever written.

That's literally solely because we artificially force ourselves to be less violent for the sake of things like society and our nation states. Humans basically got all the worst shit from bonobos, chimps, and gorillas. Humans are naturally hyperviolent. This is easiest to see in tribal peoples who have frequent wars that kill >1/3rd of their populations and who completely genocide one another in said wars.

Tribal wars are generally performative and more focused on stealing resources (women are a resource) and building status within the tribe. Deaths are uncommon, with only a handful of tribal members dying in battle. This has been documented in the modern era by studying war practices with neolithic groups in Papa New Guinea and various other islands in the Pacific. In fact, pre-early modern armies generally only suffered large losses on the battlefield when combat ended in a mass rout. More soldiers died of camp illnesses than anything else.

Humanity is the only species that can afford to kill itself as frequently as we once did, once we decide to stop destroying ourselves, we learned to cooperate and direct our actions with some level of cohesion. Humans either evolved or learned how to become less violent, because it granted us an advantage.

Eusocial insects treat their drones as disposable and allow them to be destroyed by the environment, but that isn't the same thing as the colony fighting itself. Different species of ants kill each other, but they are different species.

Most species engage in cannibalism when resource scarcity poses an existential threat to the population, but those are atypical circumstances. Cannabalism isn't sustainable on a genetic level.

Humans would actively try to kill each other even when they aren't starving. We still do sometimes. But it seems to have been getting more rare as our population increased.

Yes. Human rights are a spook.
Those who want to kill and torture will do it under the guise of goodwill and ironically "safeguarding human rights".
Others will be implicated in "human rights violations" whether they did anything or not.
Busted spook, just like the term "democracy".
On one end, "democracy" means “universal suffrage rights” and on the other end it means “gay sex lessons for kids.” This is always getting mixed up, so you get situations where the media and government claim that democracy is about “maximizing voting rights” and then turn around and claim people are “voting against democracy" by voting for milquetoast political parties.

Africans will keep breeding to a ridiculous degree even if every country there has basically the lowest GDP possible, because, again, the game doesn't simulate what'd happen to Africa if all foreign trade simply stopped because the global economy has collapsed.

    Occupied eastern european minors.
I think it was a poor choice; they don't produce much boost and pretty borders aren't as important for secret societies as they are when you're playing a country. I assume now you're just supposed to go for high-value territories regardless of contiguity.

Wasn't able to make serbia join the EU? Was there some way to go about it? I could do the 'propose local political action' but then I couldn't select any options when that completed.

If you open the tech tree and then the full tech tree you can see how to access some of the deeper nation changes.
It seems like they mostly aren't worth it though unless you're trying to break up a country another faction has a stranglehold on.

      >Is low earth orbit worth bothering with or should I aim to skip past it?

I'd say skip past it for two reasons. You'd want to establish a foothold in space and reduce as much as possible every boost-related costs. Yes, you'll need an orbital assembly line for that, but first and foremost you'll need a mining operation going. Said operation is VERY costly to put in place: I remember paying 41 boost to send a mining facility on Luna, but being able to produce water, fuel and metals in space gave me a 80% reduction in boost-related costs thanks to the reduced gravity well.
You won't be able to mine anything if you're setting up an orbital station, so you'll incur a boost penalty to keep your station alive and with no benefit whatsoever.
Build a mining facility on Luna, then expand your mining operations in order to get all the 5 space-related resources, then consider building a supply depot/factory station, but not before that.

Lots of potential though. Remove turn based garbage, allow for councilor automation and get rid of the councilor gameplay cycle as the game becomes space oriented.

In the intel tab you can see how the climate affects the earth. The most important is the impact on GDP. Basically temp foes up, droughts and bad weather become worse, economy starts to get worse. Some regions are more affected by this then others. If you click on a region and mouse over the really tiny icons next to the region name you can see the modifiers for that region. I believe climate change also causes negative evens like forest fires and hurricanes to occur more often but I'm not 100% on that.

Very mixed feelings about the ingame writing quality: new tech popups are almost all horrendous, while some of the faction storylines are very well executed.

The Servants' storyline actually makes sense while leaving behind a small bit of mystery, self-doubt and nuance. This is the sign of a well written game, when nobody is comedic evil just for the sake of it.

It's definitely not SMAC but it's a breathe of fresh air to see that different factions actually have a different perception of humans vs ayys events (at least from what I've seen from HF, resistance and servants).

It's nowhere near a masterpiece but with some more work, patches and expansions it could turn into a solid game for genre autists.

The tech tree confuses me. Some of its research nodes take forever and provide only minute improvements for high investment costs.
Starting engines and their variants don't have enough deltaV to allow even the lightest to ships to Hohmann transfer themselves from Luna to Earth, so they're functionally useless. Right now I have 7 different engine designs and only a single one allows me to realize a one-trip expedition from Luna to Earth IF I don't put armour on it.
Even if I now have 7 engines I'm still stuck with the starting 10 inch cannon and haven't unlocked more even after making them my priority as well as taking the lead in terms of technology.
What the frick am I missing? Why would 80% of the tech tree be useless? Why would I spend 6 months researching a 10% increase in boost-related IP investment when I'm past the point of needing extra boost since I have 4 different mining spots in space?

The game itself have good premises but there's so much dubious design choices. I hope EA would fix this. Extra mention to the surveil region mission, which resolves immediately and stops, therefore not revealing what's going on after it resolves and leave you with an agent doing nothing for two weeks. What the frick.

      Anonymous

If its still the first year they haven't started yet. Also to save your councilor's time you can put a space station in LEO that has Xeno Lab sections in it. Each Xeno Lab you have in LEO increases the amount of alien activity you passively spot. With one station with two Xeno Labs I was able to start spotting Alien agents around the world once I had the tech to do so. Also good to have these early since you need to do a handful of Xenobiology techs in the early game.

What they should do is make it have the higher miltech but have a modifier that gets added to the nation for a time that decreases the value of points put towards building armies such that you won't be able to invest more IP than you could as the higher miltech nation before the merger. Obviously North Korean factories wouldn't be able to build South Korean weapons until undergoing quite a bit of refitting and upgrading, but it's not as though they would drag down South Korean factories and make them unable to produce the weapons they were already producing.

Not because the game didn't last long enough to bite you in the ass, but rather because having slightly more boost / mission control / research was ALWAYS a much better idea than having slightly more cohesion / democracy / income.

The game makes a reasonable case that war is the mother of invention and that seeing ayys start to grab the solar system's resources is a great motivator to start snapping them up yourself

Arent you just getting it pretty much handed over by the alien ship that crashes

Actually no, the popups take pains to note that there is basically no recoverable technologies from the crash (the implication being that the aliens make their drop pods like that by design)

As a pea-brain who had to struggle to learn to play EU4, you have to focus pretty hard on learning this game. There is a lot to learn. That said, you can't really fail catastrophically. It's somewhat forgiving at lower difficulties.

That's about all the meaningful input I can provide. I bought it because I found the theme enticing and the realism charming.

should I just max economy in my countries or set each country as focusing on a specific priority category?

      Anonymous

Depends on the country, your needs, and your long-term goals with that country.
      Generally speaking:
Places like America and Europe (large and already developed places) you want to focus on science output. This means knowledge to make them more advanced, welfare to lower inequality to make them more stable, some economy to keep them slowly growing. Though America is sort of its own case because of its military. You'll want to put points into increasing its military tech level as well.
With developed but small nations you want to focus on things like boost and mission control. That's because those are static
Underdeveloped but large nations you want to focus a lot into economy. People don't like being poor or unequal, and in more democratic states they have more ability to influence it and cause trouble if they're unhappy. That's why in places like China and India you want to massively pump their economies first, along with reducing inequality at the same time. Once the economy has grown sizably you can then spread out into spending lots on increasing science output (because you've basically transformed them into the first situation).
Small and underdeveloped nations you want to use for spoils. This means targeting places with resource regions especially. Try to keep them stable with some into unity and maybe a bit into economy and welfare just so that they don't implode, but otherwise you only want them for spoils. You don't need to worry much about the long term with these. Either you only care about them for this purpose or you plan on making larger nations of them later. In the latter case it'll be much easier to build them up from their larger population then than it will be to build up (and keep control of) tons of tiny nations and make them good before merging. Plus it's very very easy to unify states when you have a big, strong ally (see: America). Do note though that the country needs an army of its own. It can't have an ally do all the work.

Thanks for the in depth reply. I'm on my first game in about mid 2023 and fully control Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and half of Indonesia's CPs. In this case should I focus Japan and Australia on science, NZ on boost, grow Indonesia's economy and exploit Malaysia?

          Anonymous

          Sure. That sounds good.
You're in a good position to set up for a super union into the mid game. You can go Greater Austronesia to unite all of that, then get the Southeast Asian Defense League to have everything south of China and Japan united, then go for Pan-Asian Combine to have all of eastern Asia united.
Not necessarily something you should do (or rather not necessarily something you should focus on), but the start you chose does lean in that direction.

I wonder how difficult challenge runs where you ignore space or Earth as much as possible would be. For ignoring space that would mean not doing anything in space until having united Earth as much as possible (or maybe even researching all techs as well) and for ignoring Earth that would mean getting self-sufficiency in space as quickly as possible and then abandoning all your control points. They both sound pretty infeasible, but it's still interesting to think about.

Just to give you a picture on the current state of information out there: the game has an official wiki, but it is currently down right now. And when the wiki was up, it was pretty bare bones. So good luck trying to learn how to play, you'll just be told some variation of 'git gud'.

Those ships were just escorts but they had a combined power of 208, combined with a 681 power station. The ayys had a slight advantage in that battle because they attacked a few days before a battleship came out that would've turned it in my favor but I got a little lucky.

        He didn't win.

Existence is victory because that's one of the three stations I've managed to get out, and of the three I lost one which really hurt my ship production capabilities.

That same station just turned away this massive 2k power fleet.
    I will repeat.
    The ayylmaos are FRICKED.

They ruined my results screen because they had a trailing ship that tried to engage right after their main fleet got fricked so here's a bootleg results screen.
I lost my three escorts but the battleship that came out after last battle survived, albeit extremely damaged.
I also realized that my ships are basically stationary defenses because I was actually going to evacuate this station in the face of that fleet to consolidate a stronger defense at my last station, but I realized it would take them 5 years to transfer. It's a good thing I didn't abandon the station but it's also a huge problem.
As cool as these victories are, I'm losing a war of attrition because I'm not actually destroying any ships. The ayys are so focused on my stations that I've tripled my mining operations but these ships aren't cheap and I'm starting to bleed my stockpiles dry.

If you are too active against them on earth or expand too much in space the ayylmaos will get super pissy and try to purge you from space. They'll eventually start going after your mars bases too, so you want to rush defenses. A few layered defense arrays are enough to scare off most ships that consider attacking them.

The tooltip says you can appease them by not interfering with them or the servants on earth, but I don't know how fast the threat level decreases and a few ayys running around can ruin earth really fast so I don't know if that's even viable.

My armies are 4.6 score. Alien India is allied with Servant China. I could probably take out all of their orbital assets, assuming the aliens just don't part a fleet in orbit after I start shit. I could probably beat Indian forces, but probably not take India based on the attrition I experienced in Iran earlier in the game. China is a near-peer, plus both India and China have nukes. Either could just nuke my armies, to say nothing of North America.

Is this the point where I nuke the world to prevent it from falling into the hands of the aliens? Burn half the world to save the other half.

I don't know how you people are winning this game on your very first playthrough.

My first I failed to do much of anything, my second I spent too much time making big countries and ayys took over, and my third I'm struggling to keep my foothold in space because I was too aggressive early on.

also, you're on a strict time limit. the alien administration will ramp up extremely hard extremely fast. In my second game I had all of America from Canada to Columbia and I couldn't deal with an ayylmao brazil.

If you don't provide the largest share of research points into global techs, you don't get to pick the next tech to research. If you're focusing on say, getting your faction objective research done, and the AI keeps not picking, say, inertial confinement fusion and z-pinch fusion? Frick you, no inertial fusion or z-pinch fusion drives for you. Locking you (and everyone else) out of those drives. Now look at the chart. Inertial fusion and z-pinch fusion provide the best thrust and best efficiency drives. Leaving you needing to use something else.

Techs that is mandatory to progress isn't permanently locked like some drive techs. Essentially, a random list of drives is being chosen on campaign start that can be discovered, while the ones not on the list will not show up in your campaign at all. You never know whether or not the drive you've researched the prerequisites for will show up at all. This is also the reason why a lot of drive techs are almost the same in terms of performance.

I had the last mission ready to finish in the leak but it was unplayable because of the memory leak. I dominated the aliens from day one, barely left any alien fleet get into the low orbits after 2030, etc. I was metagaming a bit to be fair, but no exploits.

Devs watch Perun too. They're obviously countering his strategies. As I mentioned earlier, this is Darkest Dungeon all over again. The devs of that game actively fought with the community over the game's difficulty in a race to the bottom. In the end, the game didn't become harder, the players were just left with fewer good options.

Yep, the EA has basically nerfed everything that was cost-effective, halted player expansion and doubled the alien ships dps because this shitty devs can't think of anything better to make the game more challenging.

You don't. China's population + defended control points will give you a success chance of roughly 5-7 percent with a maxed out councillor and investment, assuming you can even get 50+ public support in there, which also has roughly the same success chance.

Just won a game as servants. Would've been posting updates but I hadn't realised we'd changed threads.

Not surprisingly, servants are an incredibly easy campaign, the only difficulty came from the Alien Admin being completely moronic and suiciding about 20 armies I'd worked so hard to build dropping them one by one into the EU. AI seem to prioritise miltech way more now while the Alien admin actually receive 0 miltech from the miltary priority, therefore slowly getting weaker as they absorb third world militaries.

Still it was pretty fun and relatively short. Another thing I found out is the AI tendency to nuke has been reduced significantly, not sure how the extremist factions use them but all other ones including the aliens will only ever use them defensively.

Servants need to be revamped, in my opinion. Possibly with more emphasis on curing global warming and dealing with various problems the Ayys have colonizing Earth.
Maybe if global warming ever got bad enough, it'd make the planet unpalatable for the Ayys. Reverse the usual They Live concept. In a lot of real life UFO mythos, the ayys are pretty much space hippies - or at least described as such. Would be nice to see elements of that.

If you hadn't noticed, Perun's current series hasn't shown a fleet battle since EA release, only in the demo. I am personally now a fan of PDL's since witnessing them just shut down two alien DD's.

Really curious how he will pilot his build cuz I did every thing he said, using Tasmania to defend, use the head to absorb damage and it literally ALWAYS got blown up in one shot.
Also are there any meta build for mid and late game ship build so I know what to focus my research on?

Honestly its seems like people are just rushing BB's and stacking missiles and PD's on them until the Aliens start using their own PD's. As for armor, I honestly have no fricking clue when you finally unlock armor that actually stops Alien weapons w/o being too heavy. Seems like the first few armor materials are only good against other humans.

When the aliens detect a fleet burning towards their home base, they'll start hunkering down for a bit it seems. I had a 5k fleet fighting about 8k worth of ships and it was a pretty massive battle. Beyond that, I don't think you're going to have many decisive battles. It doesn't help that it's much harder to do an interception away from a base compared to wet navies.

Is there a way to forcibly take the last control point from other factions? I'm sitting on 3/4ths of germany and the UK and i'm pulling my hair out. They keep refreshing defend on cooldown, right before crackdown or purge can take advantage.

Get high public support, and get high attributes on your councilors with orgs that boost the governing attributes for crackdown and purge. This will raise the odds so that while its not assured, at least its possible. Also don't forget to murder, hostile take over, and jail enemy councilors regularly. This way only you can have high level councilors with good orgs. Bonus points for managing to turn one of theirs's into a mole for you.

You won't be able to have armed stations that also do something useful until tier 3.
Until then, just spam unarmed stations and keep rebuilding them.
They can kill two in one sweep, they can't kill twenty.
Not like space minerals are a scarce resource once you've paved Mars over with mines.

          >>You won't be able to have armed stations that also do something useful until tier 3
          My station here

This is the station that humbled the ayys and is now mass producing battleships. It has 681 military power and has a 165 power battleship docked at it now with 5 more on the way.
About 13 or so stations like this had to die before I finally managed to sneak one out that survived long enough to be built.
          [...]
I don't think you can. That was a major setback in my campaign because I went extremely hard on mars colonizing and stopping any and all alien activity or supporters on earth so the ayys got super pissed and purged me from the stars.

is tier 2 and frequently beat back ayys. They get kinda pissy if you run off their janny ships and start sending big battlefleets so you need a few actual ships stationed there eventually but the station will still have a massive impact in the battle.

One thing I don't think people realize is defense modules are dynamic rather than static. If you hover over one it'll tell you what gun it's using, if you unlock an improved one it'll switch to that.

            Anonymous

Yeah, but it's a whole station's worth of upkeep for one whole shipyard module.
Also, I've never seen t2 defense modules fend off anything beyond a token destroyer that fricks off after running out of missiles with (I have IR arc lasers, not sure how well they work with higher tech). In my run, ayys started regularly conducting orbit flattening with 3k strength fleets by 2032, so I no longer get attached to my stations. Kinda wish there was a way to set up station templates.

It's well worth it when you can barely have a station survive long enough to be built.

Defensive shipyard to build kamikaze ship in your key planet like Earth, Mercury and Mars. These type should be build right at the low or medium range so they can react the quickest.
Offensive shipyard to prepare an invasion force. These you can build in Lagrange points. I prefer the Earth-Moon one and Earth-Sun one. The Earth-Moon one can also be used defensively.

      Missiles
Missiles decimate ayys unless they're destroyers with point defense batteries, and even those can be overwhelmed. The problem is your ships surviving their railguns and laser spam long enough for the missiles to actually get there, or even hitting at all as they don't have the best DV while the ayys do their tokyo drifting, but that can be mitigated by getting close as fast as you can and dumping your load while they're mid-turn

I think this game would be pretty shitty for multiplayer because of the sheet amount of ways you can interrupt and frick over players, especially their action amount. Being able to frick over the action economy of other players so easily through the use of detain or assassinate would make this game hell. They'd need to allow further gameplay options outside of councilor missions and increase base mission difficulty to ever make it feel enjoyable to play against another human.

Obviously a country you own needs to have a claim on and be at war with them for them to get annexed, but I think it also needs an army of its own fighting in the to be annexed territory in order for it to get annexed. So if you have Country A with claims on Country B, then start a war between them and have Country C, ally of Country A, bring in their stronger armies to conquer Country B for Country A it won't annex it unless Country A has an army fighting alongside the armies of Country C. At least that's how I think it works.

You may need to have A army, but I don't think you have to do much fighting. It might just be 'literally in combat ever'. US helped me annex Italy and Greece for my EU blobbing, I did none of the work.

Can you just not build on hab-side docks? What's the point of a spacedock module, then?

      Anonymous

Your ship doesn't have enough thrust to get off the moon, so it's not letting you build it there. Ground-side docks are mainly good for asteroids since they have extremely low thrust requirements. I usually put my Martian dock on Deimos.

Thank you. It's really bad at telling you why it doesn't allow something.

Am I correct in concluding that to steal space assets, you need to orbit your counselor, transfer them to a ship, wait forever while it goes whereever you want to go, then you can somehow transfer them to the base/target/whatever and try the steal asset mission?

Is it worth making some terran orbit brute-force tug to deal with the obscene travel times?

          Anonymous

You don't need that last transfer I think, as long as your councilor's ship is at the station it should work. Worth really depends on the station, but you're generally better off just building your own station and defending it.

All the other lasers follow both so it's confusing why this combo is missing.

No. You don't need to plan orbit manually because it's hidden behind an approximated but scientifically correct formula. Instead you're presented a transfer time/delta-V slider and you can decide to prioritize one or the other.

Because getting the federation completed is a waste of time that doesn't gain you anything compared to just going for literally any other major power, even India. You're massively behind in tech and the only thing going for you is boost while everything else is in complete shambles.

          And?
But Russia also has nukes. That makes it an important factor even though it's pretty weak. But other than that it's not great until you want to go for uber EU and absorb all of Russia and the stans into the European Union.

          Anonymous

You're not supposed to play 'Russia' or 'USA' or any nationality in specific. Get some USA nodes for armies, Kazakstan for boost, EU for research, Russia for nukes etc. depending on your situation.

          Anonymous

Russia's biggest problem is that their main advantage is how much they can unify with, but you want to avoid unifying with anything because of how unification works.

You're not supposed to play 'Russia' or 'USA' or any nationality in specific. Get some USA nodes for armies, Kazakstan for boost, EU for research, Russia for nukes etc. depending on your situation.

You don't really have the cp to spread yourself out to more than one big power and one middle power. Until the 30s you can barely even afford just USA and Canada.
Also due to the way ip works a country in the hands of a player will always turn out better than any country an AI gets its hands on. So you are encouraged to stick with countries you chose early.

              Anonymous

Yes. A Russia in the hands of the player will often turn out better than a USA in the hands of the AI. They have shit priorities and are obsessed with war when a nation like USA will cripple itself if it sends out its entire army, which they do, until it is completely returned home. In my game I saw a USA down to 7 ip at one point because of mismanagement on top of sending out their entire army to fight some shithole in africa that doesn't have an army.

  193. 1 year ago

To save on command cap you don't even need to own all of USA to get good use of their armies. If you grab executive and leave the other seats for other faction they'll happily go bonk any nation you declare war on.

    Help me, anons. I'm moronic.

I don't really know what I'm doing. I've redone the tutorial a thousand times and read the codex etc, but it feels like 70% of my time is downtime. So far, for example, my "best" game is:
    >Fully control UK, Ireland, France, Benelux, Spain
    >Form "EU" nation including all except UK (so far)
    >Working on Germany
    >One thing in space, just the base module of something with no attachments or whatever
    >No idea what I'm doing

Every turn I just boost popularity in countries I'm trying to control, but once I hit the cap of control points I'm just dicking around. Sending the odd person to alien stuff if it happens. Buying the odd organisation. I don't understand if I'm meant to be accomplishing so much more during each mission phase or what.

People say it's a slow burning game, but sometimes I worry I'm going TOO slow as other factions have other shit already in Space and developing. Maybe I've just barely scratched the surface. All the guides on "beginner tips" and "early guides" are just explanations of some mechanics. I don't think I've struggled to understand any mechanics, but I definitely feel very aimless most of the time.

At the minute my "goal" is just to unite most of Europe into a superstate and get a decent space program going? I guess?

Your goal is to start your space industry asap, grabbing land on Earth is just a means to do it. You need to get a lot of boost, start mining the moon then go to mars.

Grab all the countries that border China but are not rivals. Kazakhstan is a must have; Russia is optional. Quit Eurasian Union as Kazakhstan. Use Kleptocracy template on all the countries you have and then do public campaigns in China with 640 money. At the same time you should use hostile takeover to boost Persuasion for the councilor with public campaign and control nation.
If your councilor has Unifier trait that will help too. Once you have CPs in China just abandon other countries as you go to free up CP cap. Control Taiwan executive CP and remove US as an ally. Invade as China (probably need 3 navies).

I can't speak for what to do with the USA at that stage of the game because I don't understand the shifting priorities of the game over its course. However, if you are more ignorant than I am about the game and feel like fixing the USA is a priority then max out unity and welfare. Eventually you can shift towards more knowledge and military, always keeping some amount in welfare until you exceed 5 unity and become a full democracy.

However, if you are going to want to use the USA as your beating stick then start checking the military tech of the rest of the worlds major powers. If they are approaching or surpass your 4.8 score and you still want to beat them with the long dick of liberty, then keep military tech maxed out the whole time in addition to welfare and unity. Make sure to get boost from your smaller nations.

      That's not that bad.
This is fricking bad, but it is also 2038 and at least 15 nukes have gone off. 7 of which in America.

        >nuked 7 times
        >still 353m population
        Nukes are pretty underwhelming.

Nukes are just a delete GDP button. Next playthrough I will dismantle all nukes for nations I don't plan to hold.
Also my god is the AI useless. America and Japan had a 5.0 military in 2025 and by 2030 they were all destroyed and Japan reverted to 4.3 miltech.

How can you tell when you've reached a nation's maximum boost or MC?

There won't be an option to invest in boost/MC once you reach the max.

What's the max for boost? I know for MC it's 6 per province, 8 if it is an economic center

I've had like four counselors killed in the last dozen turns. How do I hunt down and kill the most dangerous piece on the board?

Just out of curiosity did you start the assassinations first or were they non-provoked?

Oh no, they were completely provoked. I was killing Servants and Protectors left and right.

High espionage makes your councilors more difficult to detect and security harder to kill but thats obvious. Taking out ops resource generators might help too since they're used to increase the chance. Laying low every time you get detected should in theory prevent any losses since you can't target unidentified guys.
