The actual worst fighting game of all time.

      Zoomer moment.

Back then we would buy these for the art, music tracks and animated intros because we didn't quite have unlimited media access through the internet like we do now and Dragonball had barely any presence in the west at the time.

These were basically digital interactive artbooks.

Ultimate Battle 22 had INSANE hand-drawn sprites, it was like fricking Guilty Gear back in 95 or whatever and the intro is still one of the best animated pieces of media in all of Dragonball. I recall watching it on loop over and over, trying to learn how to draw the characters.

Legends had an amazing soundtrack as well.

nope, there was nothing like that in my JP copy of the game. What was that?

Everything correct. I buyed it, unlock the characters, played for some hours, realised it was way worse than Super Butooden on the SFC, record the intro to VHS, resold it,
And then regret it because it was a great collectable game...

While UB22 and Final Bout sucked, both had their merits. The music was great and some elements of the art were good.
FB models where blocky, but they didn't hurt my eyes and the colors were nice. UB 22 sprites were bad cut-outs but they were anime cut-outs.

Meanwhile, Taiketsu is irredeemable. Every single aspect of that game just sucks.

        >Ultimate Battle 22 had INSANE hand-drawn sprites,
With shit animation, characters out of proportion and bad editing that made the sprites look like bad cut-outs fighting over cheap 3D dioramas.

Most of the non-5th gen ones are good
Something weird happened when DBZ went from cart games to CD, though Legends is actually the better 5th gen one, Final Bout, UB22 and Shin Butoden are all abysmal. At least all have great Yamamoto OSTs though

        That doesn't make it good.

It really isn't, but I still stick it on now and then and don't exploit how broken all of it is.

I was doing the character campaign side quest thing.picked Vegito. Fought a super strong character and had the bug out as I spammed one move over and over. Won the match. Now I have this low hit backhand slap that’s one hit killing everyone. Apparently the game levels up the individual move and not the overall character. Was good times!

Legend isn't really a fighting game though, definitely not a traditional one. It works for what it is.

DBZ games aren't good but I have a soft spot for Final Bout and Ultimate Battle 22. The Super Butouden games weren't good either and Hyper Dimension always felt slow and clunky despite how many people call it "KOF with DBZ characters".

      >Butoden

Disagree, 2 and 3 are good.
Didn't Hyper Dimension have a turbo mode too?

I couldn't play them over SF2, they're just so choppy and slow. Nice music at least.

          >I couldn't play them over SF2
But precisely, the Butoden games were different from the usual SFII clones. Sure it had some fundamentals that are good (blocking by pressing back, special attacks) but Butoden games had unique mechanics like dashing and of course the split screen that maximized the dashing ability, not to mention the air/ground toggle and the Ki management.
          >they're just so choppy and slow
They have a turbo mode you can activate.

          >Disagree, 2 and 3 are good.
          SHUT UP.
          SHUT THE FRICK UP.
WHAT IS WITH YOU PEOPLE YOU SHOW UP LIKE JACK IN THE BOXES FRICKING EVERYWHERE. NOT A SECOND'S REPRIEVE FROM THIS SHIT.

          THE BUTOUDEN GAMES ARE GARBAGE.
          THEY DO NOT PLAY WELL.
I DON'T GIVE A FRICK WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO GROW UP AS A KID IN SOUTH AMERICA, THAT HAS NO BEARING OR IMPACT ON WHAT THE ACTUAL GAMES ARE LIKE.
          SHUT UP.

Did you get raped by your stepdad while Super Butoden was on or something? What's with this weird overreaction? It's fine if you didn't like it, but those games are beloved by fans of DBZ, and no, it's not just because they're DBZ games because there's many shitty DBZ fighting games, Butoden 2 and 3 are not among those.
          >GROW UP AS A KID IN SOUTH AMERICA
I imagine south americans got them through piracy back then, but the games were only released officially in Europe, and Japan of course. Many people played them thanks to emulation in the 2000s onwards, though, and region wasn't a limitation anymore.
But yeah, calm down dude. Literally "stop enjoying thing"

best Dragon Ball games are Budokai Tenkaichi 2 & 3(1 is fine but is a bit crude compared to it's sequels, particularly relating to how it can't do in game transformations), and it's honestly sad that BT3 is over 15 years old and still hasn't been surpassed in terms of roster size and depth
