the biggest reason this game is getting shit on so hard is because people have serious rose tinted glasses with regards to vanilla skyrim, fallout 4, and fallout 3

More like people expect Bethesda to improve on their formula in at least one single way, not move backwards
>people expect Bethesda to improve
People are delusional. It should have been obvious after Fallout 76 that Bethesda has become so used to their fans cleaning up after them that they can do the bare minimum and still succeed.
Every single Bethesda game has had the diehards screeching that it's worse than the previous one.
It's their best combat yet
Funny way of saying introducing woke shit went over like a turd in a punchbowl
BG3 won game of the year and will win it again at the game awards.
It is the most woke game I have ever played.
Everyone wins a GOTY these days. Pimento from Obsidian will be somebodies GOTY.
No it's just shit
it is much better at launch than anything bethesda has put out since oblivion
Its only playable because it is wearing Fallout 4s skeleton. Everything else about it is noticeably worse than everything that came before it.
No, it's because they gutted like 40% of the content to repackage as dlc, and the setting itself is forgetful and uninspired
>spend years re-releasing Skyrim
>decide to make an original game.
>release it
>everyone shits on it
you know what's gonna happen next Ganker?
They're going to rerelease oblivion and fallout 3
Elder Scrolls 6 since they've already talked about it?
Even trainwiz has gone at length about there being a lot of problems with it, the biggest one being that they're a studio known for making all their locations by hand and this has so little actual handcrafted locations and that they admitted that for some reason.
The first time I found a lot of the dungeons they were cool. They weren't cool the next five times in a row I found them.
I think there are a fuckton of problems with it. Most notably the half-assed procgen that doesn't create any interesting geography (see equatorial ridge on picrel) and the insane number of essential NPCs
But its definitely better than vanilla skyrim and both the fallouts they've done imo
They datamined the procgen and it's weird because there's internal systems that make it able to generate interesting things that are never used
It's like the fact that the solar systems are seamless or that zero-g spacewalking works
All this effort for systems that have no content for them
It's not weird, tons of mechanics were cut. It's why there's a cooking skill and HE3 dispensers everywhere, or why outposts exist despite barely being used for anything. The original concept for the game was probably very different. Either they couldn't get it to work or casual playtesters hated it so they lopped off that stuff, leaving dead ends behind.
It's why I think it's funny that people complain the game "wasn't ambitious", when it really looks like the problem is they were too ambitious and had to pare back. If they set out to make Skyrim 2 you wouldn't see any of that.
It's the playtesters. I will put it all on them based on a single statement. The playtesters were so retarded that they were reporting "can't fly with zero fuel" as a bug. I'm 99% sure that they reported every single thing that was interesting as a bug. Weird shaped mountain? Bug. Weird floating? Bug. Weird creature? bug. And that's why the game ended up being bland.
i don't think they were responsible for things like having 50% of the content be concentrated in only 10 systems or no spacewalking.
Yeah it was really damning when Todd talked about how they had a system for planet exploration where you would need a bunch of different spacesuits for different enviroments. IE you would need a specialized suit to walk around on Venus, a planet where the surface temp is hot enough to melt lead
But playtesters were getting frustrated with it so they just nuked the entire system to the point where its basically irrelevant
makes me sad for what could have been
> Imagine the tedium we lost out on.
I am honestly happy you are unhappy. You probably wish you could run out of fuel as well don't you?
Tedium fans need to go away.
yeah
it works in FTL when you run out of fuel and have to send out an SOS not knowing who is going to show up
kino storytelling
Just stop playing every now and again because you "ran out of fuel"
Imagine tne fun you will have.
> No I want the game to punish me. It is no fun if I punish myself.
I am glad nobody listens to you.
manage your fuel better babygirl
i beat the game and started newgame+ i know im missing content cause i skipped ryujn and freestar but have zero desire to do those storylines. cause people claim the ones i did were the good ones but they were dogshit i had to force myself to finish.
a game should not make you feel like this.
You deserve to seethe if you keep giving your money to Todd "tell me lies tell me sweet little lies" Howard after being warned for years to stop doing it.
Toddbros... not like this.
It's really, really boring.
It's not like in Morrowind where suddenly 200 of those flying fucking dinosaurs would descend on you out of nowhere. You don't fall through the floor while walking on it. It's undoubtedly the least buggy game Todd has made, to his credit. But by god it's boring.
And there's these features normal players might not even find much less appreciate. Do you think a FOMO enjoyer on Gamepass cares that you can recolor your space ship? You can METICULOUSLY recolor all the modules of your spaceship? Nah they probably didn't even fukken find that menu screen. They're the ones bitching about all the menu screens on top of menu screens to go to a menu screen.
no, the actual reason is it was made by a dev that consistently makes shit games
I liked fallout 4, always have. Only homosexuals hate it.
why are you lying? thousands of people go back to Skyrim even these days and shit on Starfailed - its a disappointment even by old standards
Every single person logged into skyrim right now is just fapping and not actually playing the game.
Vanilla Skyrim with no mods? No.
I know it's hard to believe, but the majority of Skyrim players are consolefags. I know xbox has some rudimentary mod support, but I don't think gaystation does and I know for a fact nintendo would never allow it. I just played (almost) vanilla skyrim like a year ago, with only UI and graphics mods, and it's still decent mindless fun. There's always something to explore around every corner and despite paling in comparison to Morrowind the worldbuilding and lore is still pretty engaging. The same sure as hell can't be said about starfield
Yes, the game is hated because of the nostalgia boogyman
lmao
Good thread OP
not an argument & thank you
Uh no it is asspained sonyfags that are still seething because it is a Microsoft exclusive
NO
NO
NO
NO
the MAIN strength of Skyrim and Fallout is the open world and how the game puts you in it
the most fun anyone has in these games was just going in a random direction and discovering new places. There were no leveled enemies or inaccessible areas, so you never felt like you're not supposed to be there (for the most part, of course I know this is not technically true)
the games were designed for this open exploration
In Starfield that is basically absent. Space just doesn't work as well as a connector of planets, I mean technically you were supposed to do the same thing, but the walking in a random direction part was changed to clicking a planet on the map and fast-travelling there. This sucked. It was a bad idea. And the fact that the planets themselves were procgen with copy-pasted bases/caves made it even worse
>planets themselves were procgen with copy-pasted bases/caves made it even worse
low iq take
the problem isn't procgen, the problem is that the procgen they are using is boring as fuck and doesn't create any interesting geography
Go look at the wikipedia page for all the celestial bodies in our solar system and look at how much fascinating geography there is. look at the insane geological activity on Io, The cyrovolcanos on enceladus, the thick atmosphere of titan, olympus mons and valles marineris on mars, the huge equitorial ridge on lapetus.
its all fascinating stuff but you'll find none of it in starfield because they pussyfooted it. I dont know why
I shat on it because its the same dry bethesda crap as they've released for over 20 years with little improvement.
it's not rose tinted glasses
it's the feeling of not knowing what to expect when you play your first Bethesda-like game
you could get this feeling playing Arena because it was new, and then playing Daggerfall because of how much shit they added, and then Morrowind because it was so pretty
with Oblivion, it started to all same-y, unless you hadn't played their previous games
they really need to innovate to get that feeling back, feeling of not knowing what you can/cannot do in the game, being surprised by how much freedom you have, how much shit there is to do, etc.
of course daggerfall isn't that great by today's standards (some great stuff, too much bad stuff), doubt many seriously think that old games are better, it's just that Bethesda seem to have completely stagnated
starfield would have been extraordinary in 2010, but it's not 2010
>starfield would have been extraordinary in 2010, but it's not 2010
I keep seeing this, yet I don't feel like games have meaningfully advanced since 2010.
It won goty, i don't get the hate?
Anon, thats was the XGOTY award, not GOTY, It says so in the screenshot
XGOTY is enough for them to put out a "Game of the Year" Edition. Just like it is for NGOTY and PSGOTY.
Players hate it because Microsoft Zenimax Bethesda doubled down on everything bad in Fallout 4 and Skyrim.
no, the game is shit
