Can't wait until they make Alpha Primaris marines that are slightly bigger than Primaris marines and invalidate all your old sprues. Every decade they'll just keep making slightly bigger marines.

That is already happening with firstborn. New firstborn releases are nearly the size of primaris, same with rubrics and plague marines.

I think it's more about all their units being named somethin-or with little consideration of the unit's purpose coupled with the fact that old marines had one unit for all of that and primaris have 10 making the naming convention a lot more noticeable.

They're named quite well though, I think all the names make sense.

            Anonymous

It's all a variation of something that kills. Which technically fits but doesn't really give you any hint at what the unit is about. Based on the names, you would never know tha the difference between eradicators and eliminators is one being stealth armoured snipers and the other heavy armoured melta gunners. Compared to their equivalents recon squad/scout sniper squad and devastators/heavy support squad it's pretty different. And mind devastator is still bad compared to heavy support squad but at the very least there's only one squad with heavy weapons and a silly name and not 10 so there can't be any confusion. The other exception is terminators because it's talking about the armour so you know exactly what the unit is.

Eradicate implies total destruction, eliminate is often used in assassination jargon.

              >The other exception is terminators because it's talking about the armour so you know exactly what the unit is

That's complete cope and you know it, if the called the eliminator's gun "eliminator rifle" and the eradicatirs "eradication guns" than it'd be fine by that logic

nta but Dude if I have to look up the unit to figure out which one someone is talking about after taking a 12 month break from 40k because they all roll off the tongue in the same way and sound extremely similar then the naming convention is fricking garbage. meanwhile Tactical, assault, and devastator all sound distinct from each other, I've never mixed them up once in the half lifetime I have been playing 40k for which makes them have a pretty good naming convention in comparison.
There's also the reality that the names aren't very memorable either, they're clearly made with sound complicated and thus copyrightable in mind which gives them a quality of leaking out of someone's mind easily while the three listed above are made with having a clear memorable (and simple) name in mind.

Has there been any new Primaris units in the last twelve months?
              >they all roll off the tongue in the same way and sound extremely similar
              I disagree with that assessment.
              >they're clearly made with sound complicated and thus copyrightable

nayrt, but you can absolutely trademark (not copyright, copyright is on a product/work itself not on its branding) names and phrases that are just made of existing words. While an arbitrary name (i.e. one which isn't an existing, 'real' word) are easier to have trademarked, you can still get basically any name trademarked, provided that it's not deemed overly generic. 'Jet Ski' is just two old words mashed together, but it's still a registered trademark of Kawasaki. 'Bubble Wrap' is a trademarked name, as are 'Flip Phone' (by Motorola) and 'Pot Noodle' (by Unilever)
The place where that idea actually falls down is that GW haven't registered trademarks for any of these names. The register is public info, you can just look it up. So like, here's the last time they registered 'Warhammer'
and their trademark on 'Space Marine' (fat lot of good it did them lmao)
and 'Tyranid' (with alternate spelling of 'Tyrannid' included)
                'Eldar' (expired, lol)
even 'Dark Angel' (+'Dark Angels' plural)
But they've never registered Primaris, or any Primaris X derivatives. In fact, the only registry of 'Primaris'- anything is for some defunct holding company from the US which registered it in the 1990s. There is no Primaris® Assblaster®, or even Stormcast® Donglongener®, they've made no effort to legally protect those names. There's a case to be made for it influencing their recent *design* decisions, to help if there's another Chapterhouse-y thing (where 'fair use' exemption rulings proved more common for the trademarks than the copyrights). But the idea that it's the reason for their new naming practices is dumb
