You think everyone just forgot about the time an entire race blinked out of existence, including a large amount of people who were alive at the time and are still lucid?

You talk like it's not the single most contested mystery in the series.

          Anonymous

The point of contention is where they went and why, not the fact they left at all, again, there were chimer who were alive then to remember it, also there was a war going on outside Red Mountain that ended with all the dwemer vanishing, you can't just make up stuff like that when your race lives for thousands of years.

            >there were chimer who were alive then to remember it
ALMSIVI, who are notorious liars, and maybe Divayth Fyr, who himself has no idea what happened to them.
            >you can't just make up stuff like that when your race lives for thousands of years
Sure you can, most people barely remember what happened 10 years ago, let alone thousands of years ago. Hell, things that happened only 100 years ago are hotly debated today.

I'm mostly havin' a giggle and playing Devil's Advocate with this, because this scenario was on that meme TES iceberg.

Fair enough, and to play double devil's advocate I guess Vehk did a pretty good job gaslighting the Dunmer about everything else so it's possible.

That'd honestly be a really cool and possible theory if it wasn't so blatantly untrue.

It's literally what happened to House Dagoth after the war. The House was dissolved, and all members were absorbed into other Houses. What makes you think it couldn't have happened to the Dwemer at the time as well? The difference between most of the Merish races at the time were cultural, rather than racial.

          Anonymous

Dwemer look different from the altmer and didn't have anything to transform them like orcs or dunmer.
They're probably an actual independent race, like bosmer.

            Anonymous

The Dunmer didn't exist as a separate race yet. Chimer were just a heretical cult that left Summerset. The Tribunal didn't use the tools until something like 200 years after the war, plenty of time for the Dwemer to be integrated.

              Anonymous

The chimer were just a cultural off-shoot of piss-colored tall cunts, like most other elven races except the bosmer.
I'm saying that the dwemer are different enough that they can't be descendants of the ancient aldmer and must have a different origin story, or an undisclosed transformation event, which is less likely.

                >dwemer are different enough that they can't be descendants of the ancient aldmer
We can't say anything like that for certain. As far as we know from the spectres, they were just Aldmer with styled beards. Some of the earliest reference we have to them is fighting with the Chimer, which could just have been another cultural schism.

                Anonymous

None of their depictions look much like standard aldmer to me, and their culture was already radically different very early in the known history.
Of course we know fuck all about how they came to be the way they are, so it's all just my opinion.

                Anonymous

We just shouldn't rule out the idea that the Dwemer were just Chimer that decided to tip their fedoras so hard they permanently disappeared into a basement.
The only accounts that specifically say the Dwarves turned to dust are Alandro Sul's account, which was passed down orally, and Vivec's "true" account that he only gave after a Dissident Priest confronted him with Alandro Sul's account. All other accounts just say they were defeated.

Pretty sure it's stated somewhere that by the time the chimer arrived the dwemer were already there

Baladas Demnevanni says the Dwemer started their research in the Dawn Era.
"The True Nature of the Orcs" has the Chimer exodus happen in the Dawn Era.
"Before the Ages of Man" just says the the Late Merethic Era was the Chimer's golden age, implying they'd been there for a while.

          Anonymous

It's certainly possible but seems like a really mundane answer to a metaphysical question. Dagoth Ur himself claims that he has no idea what happened to the Dwemer, and unlike the Tribunal he doesn't really have a reason to cover up the cultural genocide of the Dwemer people.

You could carry a fire spell for them. According to the wiki they have 60 HP and no fire resistance, so an anti-Bonewalker spell wouldn't be too difficult to cast or enchant.

People inventing ridiculous head canon to try and sell a game over two decades old as in some sort of Renaissance is ludicrous on its face.
The entertaining part is the inevitable meltdown by the one struggling to cope with Morrowind being largely forgotten
