The Future of Xbox and Gamepass

According to reputable sources, take this as you will:

>Phil Spencer is planning to announce his retirement this year or early next year; Sarah Bond is expected to replace him. Expect several Xbox execs to “retire” too.

>Xbox will go all-digital (no more physical releases)

>Microsoft is planning to revamp Gamepass, they're planning to hike the price and/or include tiers, day one games and ABK games might be on the most expensive tier

>Cheaper Gamepass tier will have ads on games for gamepass (pre-roll or at the end of a chapter e.g. Like a Dragon).

>Microsoft is still planning to shutter or downsize or merge more studios, specially the ones with not well known IP's, Microsoft is pivoting as a big AAA third party publisher, studios with AA or less known IPs most likely will be merged or axed

>Microsoft is really going full third party, this will be heavily pushed in 2025, and they're gonna hint at this at their upcoming Xbox Games Showcase in June

>Microsoft will put their games on every platform, faster and in greater quantity. Nothing will be sacred to earn back those $.

>Hellblade 2, Halo Master Chef collection, Starfield and Gears are confirmed to come to PS5

>Starfield will release for PlayStation 5 in Fall/Winter of this year along with the expansion

>Contraband seems to be in Dev hell, if they don't show it this year, it's most likely canned

>Perfect Dark is/was in development hell too, possible new trailer at this showcase

>Towerborne will be shadowdropped at Xbox Showcase

>New DOOM game will be announced, will release day 1 on PS5 too, late 2025 release

>Game pass is definitely unsustainable; the market they have is not enough to offset the cost.

>Microsoft is planning to announce a White Digital Xbox Series X and tease their handheld at the upcoming June show

>Next Xbox consoles will be Xbox branded third party machines, you will be able to buy from Steam, Epic, etc and Microsoft Store, it will be a niche product like Steam machines.

There is no game called New Blood.
There is Old Blood which was great, and then there's Youngblood which was mostly developed by Arkane.

The reason Microsoft isn't changing the leadership team is because Xbox is fricked regardless. A new person coming in would want to change things, but the only change left is to give up and they're not at that stage yet. When Microsoft goes fully multiplat that's when Phil will go in like a year or two.

What does an Xbox handheld solve for Xbox? Their consoles don't sell because they don't have exclusives. Their GamePass renting pyramid scheme hit a ceiling at 30 million users (which they had to combine Xbox Live Gold to reach). The Xbox selling point of renting games is not winning strategy, they're outsold 10 to 1 by the Nintendo Switch and 3 to 1 by the PlayStation 5 on average in every country on Earth. The Switch for post nut clarity is 7 years old without a price drop, the Xbox Series S and X have been discounted in America to 150 and 350 dollars and it's a distant third place console brand.

The idiot leading the blind are the top executive of Microsoft Gaming
    >Phil Spencer (She/her)
    >Sarah Bond (Thanks Tango GameWorks, very cool!)
    >Matt Booty, Todd Howard (Sycophants)

Day one if I had Phil's job I would cancel day and date PC ports, look at the entire 3 years catalog of games on the Xbox 360 announce sequels with all of them being remastered like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon with quality of life changes like a 2X turbo speed mode you see in Final Fantasy Remasters like 12. I would release a new Xbox Series S console with a disc drive built in for 250 dollars with a newer overclocked GPU so it can at least be a 1080p current gen machine. The Xbox Series S today is an all digital hellscape that is playing games at 720p, it's literally nowhere near 1440p like it was unveiled. I would bundle the frick out of the Xbox Series X this holiday with 5 exclusive games at 400 dollars. Demos of all their games like Project Perfect Joanna Dark and Fable 4 would be released this year to drum up hype.

Xbox has a huge asset of IP, nearly 50 owned 1st party studios, tons of liquidity, and they are just flailing around like a dead fish because "great games won't help Xbox", so here's a new handheld that won't solve anything other than becing an ultra niche vanity for YouTubers "tech" sycophants to do unboxing videos.

          >Third party see no one buying their games because of PC piracy and Steam only users
          >Valve just has a new revenue stream straight from Xbox owners now
          >Microsoft will sell the Xbox-PC hybrid at the price of normal PCs $1,000 or sell at a loss at $500
          Doesn't help them.
          Microsoft makes an Xbox handheld
          >No exclusives to drive sales, we saw the 3DS struggle until it had exclusives, the Vita died because of no exclusives
          >Xbox brand is so tarnished people wouldn't know a handheld exist just like SEGA in the 90s
          >If it's only Xbox digital marketplace, people have even less reason to buy one. If it's open to Steam/Windows, Microsoft gets no money from pirates and Steam users.
          >Will be an expensive handheld given the fact all Windows OEM handhelds cost more than 600 dollars and SteamDeck OLED costs 650
          State of Xbox.

NTA, but the reason for that is sony's marketing for the PS5 is better than microsoft's for the series s and x.
Marketing fricking works magic for vidya consoles. It's how sony managed to sell so many ps4s despite the distinct lack of games.

    >On the hardware business Microsoft has been selling at a loss for close to a decade, on the software side their own games like HellBlade 2 and HiFi Rush are commercial failures
Gee I wonder why all this keeps happening. They devalued their own brand to the point the average consumer thinks the Xbox console is a lesser brand than the other two platform holders. Retailers aren't selling Xbox physical games and their day-to-day operations consist of announcing PC ports and now PS5 and Nintendo Switch ports of their former exclusives. Fricking crazy Phil Spencer.

This is so fricking stupid, but I believe it, because execs are so moronic that they honestly think:
    >"We aren't making enough money! let's charge more for existing things, that way people will give us more money"
    >*everyone stops using the service because now it's a terrible value*
    >"HOW COULD ANYONE PREDICT THIS?!"

modern capitalism is just shining a big light on how bad the nepotism problem has become, most of the rich people these days are just a bunch of morons who inherited their fortune or were handed a high-paying job by a friend, none of them got there through actual business intelligence

I seriouly don't understand why zoomers repeat the XBox handheld is a silver bullet. Do YouTuber watches here even think about it? The Xbox consoles are unpopular worldwide and no matter how low the price point goes, people don't buy the Series S and X consoles. They were given them away for $150 and the Series S still lost to the 8 year old Nintendo Switch in North America last December. It is undeniably an unappealing brand at this point. What does bringing a handheld into the mix fix exactly? Both the SteamDeck and Nintendo Switch 2 are weaker than the Series S because they're handhelds, so it stands to reason Microsoft's own handheld will be weak and very expensive to make just to play this gen's games like Alan Wake 2. The Steam Deck struggles to even play Alan Wake 2 and Microsoft needs to have everything this gen working on their little handheld.

The price will be huge unless they want to eat another decade of losses. People who have an Xbox console and buy the handheld won't be repurchasing their games, they already own them or rent them from GamePass. PC gamers are either going to stick to the Deck or just ignore it. Nintendo people won't be buying it either because they have an ecosystem with Nintendo exclusives that Xbox can't provide. Sony people would be the only curious lot becauase they're moronic enough to buy a $200 plastic controller that only streams on the PS5 called the Portal and that is a vanity peripheral for "muh dad gamer". If you run a presentation for this at Microsoft the accountants should be lining up to throw the presenter out of a window after Xbox Gaming cost Microsoft 100 billion dollars in 5 years with their hardware sales in the graveyard and their softwares only being carried by Blizzard-Activision.

      >I seriouly don't understand why zoomers repeat the XBox handheld is a silver bullet
they are brainwashed by Minecraft into thinking that microsoft is not a shit company

that's the only explanation I can think of, because anyone who actually pays attention to the things microsoft chooses to do can see they are not only terrible at running a business, but also managing any companies under them, and this has been the case for at least 20 years

All you have to do is look at how RARE was handled after MS bought them and it become blatantly obvious that MS is the place where talent goes to get squandered and eventually quit the industry for good due to frustration or become a soulless husk churning out games they hate just for the paycheck

People are idiots, a handheld won't change anything just like making Xbox a PC (people love to parrot this as well). There is no reason to own the console, Phil did everything in his power to devalue the brand completely. It reached the point where their value propositions mean nothing because Xbox keeps missing out on major releases and their output is abysmal. People rather pay full price for a slop and never finish them but don't want to be stuck with a console where they don't even get the choice to play it.

Does anyone believe MS can put out a decent handheld hardware after they can't compete with anyone for ten years now? Okay lets pretend they can. Why would anyone want to be in the Xbox ecosystem through a handheld? The issues are the exact same: smallest library, worst ports, no good games. The final nail was releasing their games on PS/Switch. They only told people to not worry if they somehow make a good game in every five years because they can play them anywhere else. Going multiplat won't solve their forgettable output, shit games won't sell no matter how many places they release them. All they achieve is losing their foothold in the hardware industry thus developers won't need to suck up to them anymore.

The Series S forces most devs to take it into account no matter how little it sells. If a general Xbox-PC hybrid won't play new games because their hardware is missing RAM or anything nobody will care. All they achieve is getting their ass beaten by the cheap consoles and by the expensive PCs at the same time.

Too bad the Xbox Series X was kino, with all the native Xbox 360 and Xbox support with FPS and resolution updates :/
But yeah, the actual "gen" has been bad, and Phil Spencer has finally been pinned by his superiors for his Used Car Salesman pitch that is Gamepass. It never was sustainable and he was just buying time without any real strategy, using ideas the MS board likes like "Oh this should be subscription based like everything we do!"

They hurt vidya quite a deal. Obsidian is probably next in the line of "once great game makers who produce the most hated video game" just like what happened to BioWare after EA bought them.
