It's been 6 months now, so it seems like enough time to fully digest things. Which is the overall better game? Is it close? Are they tied?
It's been 6 months now, so it seems like enough time to fully digest things. Which is the overall better game? Is it close? Are they tied?
Tears of the Kingdom is the better game, overall. Breath of the Wild was better for its time.
>6 months
Jesus christ where the FUCK does the time go?
>plays vidya
>wonders where time goes
They were both a mistake.
TotK recycles so much from BotW that they're practically the same game. In the future they will probably be treated as the same game.
This, I could not finish TotK. Recycled everything from BotW and I just feels like a big empty world. If it was 30 bucks I would have a different opinion. The Zelda franchise is going downhill from here
>Recycled everything from BotW
Not true and stop being a reductionist homosexual to try and boost your shitty "point"
>They were both a mistake
No they were not, just because too much of a contrarian homosexual to enjoy them doesn't mean they're "mistakes"
TotK is overall better, but it's close.
BotW is a cleaner, slightly comfier experience, more tightly designed (yea these words are sort of just strung together, but I'm not going to think too hard about how to word this shit ... if you've played you know), but TotK had much cooler dungeons and generally the feeling of exploration was better. There were some caves and wells that ended up feeling like they went on forever and it felt awesome to get lost in exploration like that: being at the end of your resources, and starting to scrounge for random materials just to get a little further: TotK really pushed the idea of BotW further.
>BotW is a cleaner, slightly comfier experience
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Nintendo was annoyed by that "THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN BOTW" nonsense so they filled TotK with a ton of random shit. Can't go over one hill without spotting something to investigate. Normally I would say that's a good thing, but I enjoyed meandering around BotW's world a lot more than I can explain in words.
What do you mean, TotK contains BotW, how can BotW be better? That's that problem with TotK, it makes BotW irrelevant, I'll never replay it, I'll just keep replaying TotK in the future
>What do you mean, TotK contains BotW, how can BotW be better?
The gameplay is wildly different with the different set of abilities, and the changes to the map and make them wholly unique. It's similar to what it would be like if Tim Burton and Wes Anderson were tasked with adapting the same script. They would technically share a fair number of similarities, but everything about the way things were laid out and presented would be worlds apart
BotW because of Guardians. Gloom Hands don't remotely compare.
>Which is the overall better game?
Tears of the kingdom, because crossing a 24 square mile map is better when done from a vehicle instead of slogging around on foot.
The first one had horses.
Horses are garbage too.
The first one had a motorcycle
i hope they make more zelda games
Breath of the Wild was a better and more captivating experience. Everything was new, they nailed exploration for explorations sake
Tears was just a videogame cobbled together using the same engine. I'd be amazed if they really spent 6 years developing it. Hopefully most of the team moved onto Zelda for the Super Switch
I still can't believe all the major mechanics and enemy types were the same. Building stuff was cool but autistic puzzly, not zelda. Totk music wasn't great either compared to Botw. They never got to the heights of the first Guardian experience. The depths were great but really undeveloped.
So, Botw was art, Totk was a great videogame
Take the best game of all time:
>Improve on it in every single way
>expand the world
>better main quests
>better side quests
>better content
>better dungeons
>better shrines
>better rewards
>better enemy variety
>better boss battles
>better music
>better combat
>better exploration
>better abilities
And wrap it all with a level of polish and technical wizardy which baffles and stuns the entire gaming industry. BotW was a masterpiece but TotK makes it look like a rough first draft.
It's mid.
>unironically uses the word "mid"
opinion discarded
My nephew is getting a switch for Christmas. He's 7 years old. Do you think it'd be better to get him TotK or BotW?
>My nephew is getting a switch for Christmas. He's 7 years old. Do you think it'd be better to get him TotK or BotW?
Probably BotW. TotK has some complex mechanics. TotK was made under the assumption you've already played BotW. I have kids myself and they would never get of the first Sky Island without my help. BotW is probably a more easy introduction.
BoTW was a great game for its time
At ToTK's release date, Genshin Impact is an overwhelmingly better game than ToTK, for free. So much so that ToTK served only as an insult to Nintendo's customers.
>Genshin Impact is an overwhelmingly better game than ToTK
lmao BotW and TotK are amongst the most acclaimed games of all time. Nintendo fans never give your chinkshit mobile game a single thought.
>there are a bunch of brainwashed nintendo people who only play nintendo stuff
that's all well and good but genshin impact has actually been played by like 5 times as many people worldwide as botw 🙂
>genshin impact has actually been played by like 5 times as many people worldwide as botw 🙂
I would hope so. It's free to play on 3 BILLION mobile.
Number of BotW copies sold: 30 million
Number of TotK copies sold: 18 million in its first month
Number of Genshit copies sold: ZERO
🙂
actually genshin impact has made more money than botw and totk combined
this is pretty well known and hard to argue against. it's the most financially successful game of all time per day of release.
>actually genshin impact has made more money than botw and totk combined
Monetized money gambling moblie game designed to make money from retards makes money!
lmao give up.
>give up
we aren't having an argument.
>muh gambling
right....muh $70 6 year expansion pack vs muh entire game for free
I played 150 hours in BotW.
I've played 180 hours in TotK.
I uninstalled Genshit after a couple hours. Tried replaying if again recently after all the years of updates. Uninstalled it again after an hour.
BotW and TotK are considered masterpiece games.
Genshit isn't even considered a game.
Bro nobody cares it's apples and oranges
it's really not at all, they're both open world action adventure games. they're in the same genre and genshin impact copied botw's core traversal mechanics, so the games are designed similarly in some ways.
i didnt ask though
Continue to seethe in BotW/TotK threads.
Nintendo fans will never give your Chink dogshit a single thought XDD
>Nintendo fans
it's so funny how you keep self-identifying, the tribal aspect is so important to you, and that's why you feel this way
you kids are extremely susceptible to these lines of thought. it's why people don't consider "nintendo fans" to be actual gamers, you're religious about a product brand.
>it's so funny how you keep self-identifying, the tribal aspect is so important to you, and that's why you feel this way
Of course I do. Because you're seething. That's why you're here in a Nintendo thread foaming at the mouth.
You could go make a Genshit thread but you won't XDD
>Genshitter leaves his containment board to start shit
Every time.
i dont use /gig/
you can't talk about totk without talking about genshin impact. you can't have this conversation without bringing up how nintendo is abusing its customers and their seemingly religious, infinite goodwill
those past pokemon games and then this...I grew up on nintendo, and this isn't nintendo quality. period.
these things are all part of the same discussion. if you bought totk and didn't feel insulted in the end, you don't have clear vision or self respect.
For me the main catch of these games was the exploration and BotW just runs laps over TotK. On the second game you feel like the world is in the palm of your hand, which in turns made it way less interesting to interact with, even if it had more varied and larger amount of content.
BotW will for me be a masterpiece (and the closest I've ever felt to playing SotC for the first time) while TotK is just a very impressive expansion pack, a victory lap over Hyrule instead of an actual adventure.
Both are worse than Genshin.
BotW but not because its a better game but because it wasn't a rehash. If TotK came out first BotW would be the worse game.
The ideal game is BotW with things from TotK.
I don't see myself ever replaying these games.
Hell I didn't even finish TotK because I realized it was just BotW again.
Next Zelda game needs to be completely different, if it's another asset flip then this franchise is dead to me.
i played and beat botw, i got maybe 12 hours into totk and got bored and stopped. its simply not fun re exploring the same map when exploring the map is the point of the game.
totk.
overrated game
overrated dlc
im still mad all the legendary swords and weapons are fucking useless. and worst of all you have to glue a branch to the tip of them everytimee for them to do decent damage
TotK is the better game obviously, but BotW held my attention and interest much longer because it was fresh and brand new
I will probably never go back to BotW but I had a better experience with it than TotK
It's obviously the worse game.
disagree. There's a lot of QoL changes to TotK, along with the new additions that do improve the gameplay, even if it's not the segments of gameplay that WE wanted them to focus on like combat. As well as better side missions and shrine puzzles and better dungeons (although a 5/10 dungeon being better than BotW's 3/10 dungeons isn't much)
Tears is just BOTW+, but since I already did everything in BOTW I have no intention on ever doing it again in the new game.
>since I already did everything in BOTW I have no intention on ever doing it again in the new game.
You're in luck because TotK is all new content, main quests, sidequest, worlds to explore and entirely new gameplay mechanics.
On the exact same overworld I'm already familiar with. Breath of the Wild was the kind of game I only care to go through once.
>On the exact same overworld I'm already familiar with
Ooof. You must have missed out on A Link Between Worlds. Shame because it's a great Zelda game.
I'll live
>Ooof
One came out literally decades after the fact, one is a squeal to a game that came out 3 years prior.
Come the fuck on anon
>3 years
Anon, it was 6.
The 3DS game is boring
That's a really good point. That illustrates what I personally believe about botw/totk much more clearly by using an example, than I've been able to with like like 1000 words.
I'm stealing this and acting like I came up with it.
TotK is the better game, but it suffers from having the same overworld and there not being enough differences for it to stand out on its own.
They both made me fall out of love with the IP and were monkey paw abberations of my childhood dream game of "ocarina of time, but really, really big and lots of dungeons".
It's the same game I think the series is overrated the physics gimmick is great (it appeared first and better in Banjo), but the game is nothing special a lot of compromises caused by the wii u/switch shitty hardware would be better if it was a pc game but they do okay within the limitations
i enjoyed both but the one with infinite bombs and functioning champion abilities wins for me
>More sandbox features
>the world is empty and unengaging
have I been memed
Yeah, I'd rather be shooting rocket launchers in the phantom pain. Too bad that game doesn't feature minecraft gacha
Totk easily. Any nagger who says it's dlc never played it
It should have been a dlc
Miles and Persona 5 royal should have been dlc. Totk and it's immense additions could never have been dlc
>immense additions
lol
Yeah and you can't even denie it
They added welding to the game. How totally new and different, totally worth $70 and waiting 6 years.
>They added welding to the game
They did?
Do you even play the overpriced expansion packs you defend?
Are you talking the combine thing or something else. Genuinely curious
What do you think welding is?
Oh you're just being retarded. Thought there something else. I put 100 hours in before finding the auto build feature
I'm retarded for saying the game has a specific feature?
Only paid 40 bucks, which is my maximum
Most of the map, enemies, items, npcs and overall assets are the same as in the first game. You could have easily made the additions it into a depths dlc a sky dlc and just ditch Zonaite altogether
>Any nagger who says it's dlc never played it
This, it's a piss poor attempt at trying to downplay the new contend added in ToTK because it used BoTW as a base to build upon
>I LOVE HAVING TO COLLECT HUNDREDS OF LITERAL PIECES OF CRAP AGAIN!
both are disposable one and done games for me. Totk really could have been a fully realized version of skyward sword but its clear covid reduced the scope of the game drastically.
The problem with both games is that they introduce quite a few problems, and for all the talk of innovation, they don't really fix the core issues of Zelda. Neither game offers a reasonable challenge, for example, and it's downright silly to ask me to impose challenge on myself. That's boring. TOTK is even more jarring because it actually goes out of its way to not fix mistakes in BOTW, like having an unskippable tutorial, or mandatory cutscenes before the tutorial. It's a Nintendo game, I don't care about the story. Just let me get to the bing bing wahoo. Of course, this is only a few of the problems.
Alot of people praise TOTK as a superior game, but at least BOTW has the excuse of trying something vastly new after several stagnant games. TOTK stagnated and didn't learn from BOTW despite a 6 year dev time.
Hey it's that forgotten zelda game that came out in the BALDUR'S GATE 3 year
I just think of BOTW and TOTK as two halves of the same game, like the light/dark world you'd have in LTTP or the Present/Future in OOT. It makes the map reuse more tolerable.
although I'm a bit baffled by the decision to have Zelda suffer through 50,000 years of awaiting link to rescue her again, when she just finished doing the same thing for 100 years in the previous game.
Tears of the Kingdom is kind of shitty. Why add an entire underground map with nothing to do?
2/2 do people not realize they copied almost everything from botw too?
>time to look for memories from Impa never done this before
>all these towers and dungeons
I just wish they did something about the filler. It wasn't enough that koroks were mindless distractions that didn't reward you with challenging puzzles, but they add even worse filler in the form of Addision, whose quests take no effort whatsoever. you can literally solve them by just propping a plank below them.
We went from this
To this
:/
Everything I like just crashes and burns like the twin towers
The underground was such a huge disappointment. They should have just picked the sky islands or the underground and developed one of them, as it is two (what should be) huge parts of the game feel half-complete.
I wanted the caves from the original trailer that Link and Zelda were traveling through with a pack buffalo creature. Full of underground rivers and glowing crystals. That was cool looking.
So are the depths we got, the weird primordial fiddlehorn fern spore forests, but variety would have been cool.
