So is he from the future or what? Optimus Primal shouldn't co-exist with Optimus Prime, should he? I kinda figured the entire point behind his name was that he was named after a famous dead guy.
the movie version looks like shit to me for some reason, I also remember wishing really hard that he'd get a happy meal toy or some shit but I knew somewhere in my heart it was impossible
agreed. Also mixing the beasts with the G1 formers was dumb, now there beast modes have literally no point. Feels like shoe-horned fan service, but it's not being headed by bay so it will probably at least be fun.
Iirc, Hasbro made sort of a frickfest where they asked the writers to NOT watch beast wars and write a sequel about it, so people that didn't watch it could join in too. As you would expect, it lead to the first half being kinda messy but they sorted things out in the end.
Yeah the second season was a definite improvement.
Not that I hated watching Beast Machines but it does give the viewer complete whiplash after watching Beast Wars.
But man eco terrorist Optimus Primal is a sight to behold.
>It's really a shame we got RID instead of that.
I think it's best to consider that any kind of Beast Machines sequel was never going to happen, given its franchise low point financial performance. MAKES THE STING OF BEING SHOWN THOSE ENGINEERING PROTOTYPES HURT- JUST A LITTLE- LESS.
The designers for the two series really had it in for him for some reason. They originally wanted him to be a malformed cripple in Beast Wars as well with the top of his head actually being his exposed brain along with exposed innards and mismatched arms. Beast Machines let them try again and they actually got away with it.

To be fair it was the 90s, grossout shit was the norm at the time
>Decepticons have better alt modes (you know, actual fighting vehicles) >Air superiority >Megatron is a walking WMD >Still lose. >The two competent ones (Shockwave and Soundwave) are too fricking beta to step up and tell Megatron his plan is fricking stupid and Starscream needs to be scrapped
>>The two competent ones (Shockwave and Soundwave) are too fricking beta to step up and tell Megatron his plan is fricking stupid and Starscream needs to be scrapped
You need to read the comics, specifically the Dreamwave ones. Shockwave usurps the Decepticons and unifies Cybertron while the war on Earth is still going on. One of my favorite plot lines.
never read it but I do remember hearing about that, including a sad page where the Decepticons and Autobots teamed up and in the aftermath Shockwave was telling Optimus how it makes him wish there could be peace but also knew ill feelings ran too deep on both sides.
Also why I put Shockwave was 'one of the only competent ones'.
This, the fact that it has one of the sickest combat systems in the genre is honestly kind of comedic. That game makes G1 look way cooler than it actually is. Wished it got a bigger budget, you really can tell it was a budget title but at least it has the best boss roster in a Platinum game imo.
I thought War for Cybertron was better personally but still loved both games. Hell I didn't think Rise of the Dark Spark was terrible. Kind of a weird way to end the trilogy though
>Hasbro comes up with some stupid all female combiner team that sucks and is forgettable >Takara comes in and creates a team of horny Decepticon women out of it >only figures are repaints of the worst toys in the worst toyline >largely memoryholed by the community due to SJW butthurt over the Sakomoto pack-in comics Except Trickdiamond in IDW but that's mainly just because she's less of a horny fembot and more just R64 Swindle.
memoryholed by the community due to SJW butthurt over the Sakomoto pack-in comics Except Trickdiamond in IDW but that's mainly just because she's less of a horny fembot and more just R64 Swindle.
Lunaclub is in IDW too. They get wheeled out with alarming regularity because authors are desperate for any wom-bot that Hasbro will let them treat as expendable and isn't from something "creepy".
Forgot pic.
Doesn't help either set that the car and helicopter molds were already used about 5098028340945 times before in Combiner Wars so that was even less reason to be interested in the Torchbearers.
Perceptor actually shoots in that scene, I thought he was supposed to be a pacifist who never fired on the enemy (except for that one bit of trench warfare in Transformers The Movie).
You may have him confused with first aid. Pereceptor is a scientist, so he doesnt fight much, but he does have moments.
They also turned him into a sniper in that old idw series.
I'm so glad we got the Cybertron games because the most interesting part of Transformers has always been the civil war on Cybertron but, it was never really explored all that much despite having plenty of storytelling potential, especially if you want to add a little nuance to the setting.
Like, sure, you can make Megatron a villain because he's a power hungry dude who kicks puppies—and that's fine—but you can also make him a radical revolutionary who dreams of restoring his world to some lost, ancient glory through any means necessary.
The only thing I hoped for some sort of game in which you can make your own Transformer to do whatever you want whether you want to do, human companions are optional.
Also which company owns the Transformers IP, I can see them taking part in a few crossovers themselves again if worst comes to it. Preferably SRW if they still have Japanese ownership
Well there goes most possibilities of there being more decent stuff that comes out of the series. Sure its a toy company but even then they can still do a few things with the series outside of Netflix specials that no one is gonna watch and who knows how that new planned videogame of theirs is gonna turn out.
It's funny how whenever they try to portray the Decepticons as more sympathetic, they still end up being horrible. Occasionally they're even worse than when they were just buttholes for no reason.
Thundercracker has serious doubts about the whole Decepticon thing. In the IDW comics he became a screenwriter.
Swindle was a war profiteer so he'd happily have sold weapons to the Autobots for a quick buck. He's only loyal to himself, really.
Ratbat sees it all as a business.
Runamuck and Runabout just like destroying things.
Autobots:
Mirage is a homesick aristocrat and hunter who isn't enthusiastic about the Autobots. He has his doubts. He's one of the most underused and most interesting Autobots.
Grimlock hates the Autobots but hates the Decepticons more; he hates the weak but hates the strong who bully the weak much more.
Sunstreaker is a sociopath, extremely vain and narcissistic. In the UK comics there is a story where he let's a bunch of humans die rather than risk his paintjob.
Slag is a piece of shit psychopath, a total butthole who is worse than many Decepticons, and only on the Autobots side because of Grimlock. Snarl just exists to fight.
Skids is a pacifist. Bluestreak has a shit-ton of firepower, is unusually powerful for an Autobot... but he's a pacifist. Beachcomber is a hippie.
>Slag is a piece of shit psychopath, a total butthole who is worse than many Decepticons, and only on the Autobots side because of Grimlock.
at least he's polite about it
He started working with them during the latter half of Armada but got killed and later got all his character development erased when he was rebuilt in the sequel series so went back to evil backstabber.
Ah I see thanks anons. I vaguely remember watching that a few years ago. The most info I know about Transformers is from my dad years ago. I remember one time when I was like 7 or so I mentioned I thought the transformers figures were cool and I wanted one. Then he sat me down for like an hour and explained the lore and war for cybertron or something and why (in his words) "Starscream was a fricking gay" but I digress I wanna see what the frick hes talking about now that I cant talk to him since hes dead. Where should I begin? What tv shows should I watch? Comics?
He started working with them during the latter half of Armada but got killed and later got all his character development erased when he was rebuilt in the sequel series so went back to evil backstabber.
He also used to be an Autobot in War for Cybertron's backstory, or at least neutral. He, Skywarp and Thundercracker were guardians of the last bit of Dark Energon, and quickly defected when Megatron came knocking and showed his ability to control it.
There's even a brief scene where his emblem changes.
He started working with them during the latter half of Armada but got killed and later got all his character development erased when he was rebuilt in the sequel series so went back to evil backstabber.
This was so kino and still my favorite interpretation of Starscream
Well something changed if the rpg community managed to get them to put the dnd 5e srd on the creative commons license and backpeddal entirely on the new OGL.
With how popular anime is in the west these days, I could honestly see a Transformers Anime doing quite well these days compared to the heavily localized trash that was the Unicron trilogy
I frequently listen to this soundtrack when at the gym, the fact that they got the guitarist from the 1986 movie is just crazy to me. Honestly surprising how many hardcore G1 fans are at Platinum.
These are my top 3:
Devastation 2 never ever. I just want another game but without the loot shit.
I think being in a valley filled with an unfathomable number of flowers to depict the number of bots you've ended up killing in the middle of your ongoing life crisis might do a number on you.
Based until one or two issues after that scene. Basically when Anode showed up it started going downhill.
But up to that point it was amazing.
Best lads related.
Based. On Lost Light things started bad, and just when it looked like Roberts was finding his foot again, the reboot was announced, he had to rushed the story and no editor was in place to reel him in, so we got a pretty bad last third of the run.
I loved it soley for megatron, and his backstory, and his character growth into an autobot
Everything else i didnt much care for, especially the random sideplots and romances.
love the fact that the decepticons had their own imageboard and the scavengers canonically spent a ton of their time just being jackasses on it. they're literally me.
Rodimus Prime will always have a stigma attached to him due to how the third season of the cartoon handled him as complaining about being leader and not up to Optimus's caliber. The fact the story itself had Optimus come back and take leadership again didn't help opinions on him.
Media to this day still loves to shit on him, with IDW turning him into a wienery butthole unfit for leadership and the Power of the Primes series having him be mind controlled by Unicron.
One thing I can't get over is that Transformers completely skipped the 16bit era, it's bizarre
Did no one in that time from the late 80s to early-mid 90s not pitch a Transformers game for the Genesis, SNES? Hell, fricking NEO GEO?
Nobody gave a frick about transformers in the early 90's is the problem. Until Beast Wars they had no idea what the frick to do with the series after they ran out of Diaclone toys to steal.
I never really understood why transforming was a thing on Cybertron. It makes sense as a gimmick invented so they can hide/investigate Earth without freaking out the Government. But what exactly is the purpose of your entire species being able to transform into a car/jet/gun? Wouldn't just roller skates or jetboots be a lot simpler?
The show and all that jazz takes place on Earth so the justification for transforming is there. I just don't get why it's treated as a universal thing for Cybertronian society in the super deep expanded lore.
1) they actually hid from each other as shown on their home planet in the first G1 episode.
2) They have noses, mouths, teeth, tongues, facial hair, and in some versions human like genitalia. Don't think to hard on this shit that was made to sell toys.
pretty sure it was because the autobots and decepticons were slaves originally and their transformations supplemented their role.
decepticons being used for military/soldier roles, their transformations were geared for combat hence why they transform into guns and jets also why they can fly
autobots were the labor force so their vehicle forms are better such as trucks hauling cargo or microscopes for research.
and like
1) they actually hid from each other as shown on their home planet in the first G1 episode.
2) They have noses, mouths, teeth, tongues, facial hair, and in some versions human like genitalia. Don't think to hard on this shit that was made to sell toys.
In the original cartoon canon it was kind of portrayed like a martial art, a function they learned and practiced. Their creators, the Quintessons also divided the autobots/decepticons between labor roles and military application respectively which their transformations fall under.
Yeah it doesn't make sense for them to transform into human tech before finding earth, just go with it.
Idea was that Megatron went against the status quo of their planet and was ultimately in the right to fight the autobots. but over the time their wars became a routine and megatron has lost his way
Cybertron had a caste system and Megs was just a dock worker who realized 99% of Autobots are so weak they have no right to treat the working class like they did. It quickly led to a long fricking war that screwed the planet over and turned Megatron into a megalomaniac.
depends on which series you're talking about and what age group it's aimed towards
the comics for adult fans had involved politics about there being caste systems for the robots and discrimination based on if you were a unique build or mass produced, and the decepticons were originally rebels facing up against the status quo oligarchs
In the sunbow cartoon manuscripts Megatron was designed as a "Stalin meets Genghis Khan" and they had episodes that showed the war was basically him trying to become the ruler of the planet. Mind you they go against there own lore all the time.
Depends on the continuity, but generally Megatron was some lowly figure, either a worker or gladiator or something, who agitated against the status quo that kept the lower classes oppressed. This is something Optimus seems to have been in agreement with, as he often calls Megatron 'brother' and things to similar effect. Megatron was a rallying figure for the rebels, but eventually started going further and further over the line such that Optimus saw he gradually turning into a tyrant and withdrew his support. Then it just degraded into a long drawn out meatgrinder, with few remembering what they were initially fighting for, only that the other side were 'oppressors' and in the wrong.
As someone who didn't care that much about Transformers the PS2 game was surprisingly enjoyable.
The anime was ok too. Until Unicron shows up, then it was amazing
Recently found my old PS2 and my copy of that game. There is a good reason they advertise the Tidal Wave fight on the back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaAZgW8PbR4
I really hope Rise of the Beasts brings some more popularity back to the franchise. As bad as the Bay films were, they at least helped fund a lot of the cool shit for core fans like Prime, Animated, WfC/FoC, etc.
I’d like to see them take another crack at some sort of aligned continuity, or a large scale project in general to give us a break from the low budget monotony, but with how Hasbro is doing financially, I don’t see it being within the realm of possibility
Speaking as someone who hasn’t purchased a Transformers toy in years, mostly engaging with the franchise through mixed media, I’ve never quite understood the collector side of the fanbase.
What’s the appeal? Most of the figures seem really overpriced for the accuracy they offer
For me its getting all the toys and characters I was too young for back during G1. And in regards to accuracy, you'd be surprised how slavish the latest toys are to looking like the animation models/movie renders. Mostly.
Sounds fair enough. I’m a zoomed that grew up with stuff like the Unicron trilogy, Animated, Prime, and the other aligned continuity projects, so I’ve never had too much of an attachment to G1 besides enough of a passing interest to binge the original series/movie once or twice. I’ve taken a few cursory glances at the toy line, but it feels like little else besides G1 and the bay films gets any love.
Maybe someday it’ll be profitable for Hasbro to pander to my demographic’s nostalgia and they’ll reel me back in. Who knows
I ended up just ordering all the stuff I want online anymore. Shit like the Legacy Stunticons I never saw in stores and had to order and the Wal-Mart here still has shit from Siege on shelves.
Also that reminds me, frick Hasbro still doing moronic store exclusives. Legacy Minerva is exclusive to fricking Walgreens drug stores and of course scalpers bought them all before I knew she even existed.
Siege? Damn, at least mine is clogged with Legacy Wave 1. And yes, exclusives suck.

You're in luck, this year they're doing a bunch of toys based on Armada figures with a few Animated ones sprinkled in.
>You're in luck, this year they're doing a bunch of toys based on Armada figures with a few Animated ones sprinkled in
God dammit. I thought I had a few more years before I was considered old enough to be milked financially.
I thought of getting him since I love the bay-g1 design Bumblebee gave him, but my current search is SS long haul and Overload for a somewhat acceptable price
>back during Combiner Wars the Stunticons were only about 12 dollars apiece for the regular figures and about 25 for the leader >now during Legacy they're 25 apiece for the regular figures and Motormaster was fricking 80 bucks
No, the kids toyline was Cyberverse and now Earthspark. Legacy is a "collector's line". If kids buy them too, hey great, but they're not the target audience.
I just hope they don't do any more combiners outside of Menasor and Volcanicus as my wallet won't like it. If they do Legacy Combaticons I have to dive back in.
Just a little bit mistaken. When Warden was made design lead, the brand segmentation was slightly reorganized; instead of a central media tie-in line covering the entirety of the core child demographic age range and acting as a flagship, they further split the segments by having the cartoon-based line serve as an interim "young children" step between rescue bots and the typical deluxe/voyager/leader/etc lineup. This was actualizing on the "simplification" concepts they'd been trialling with stuff like the Beast Hunters upscale wave (less "design representational", fewer moving parts, more focus on dynamic features and "play patterns") in response to market research done iirc in response to DOTM. The secondary goal of this- why it was relevant to mention Warden- was pushing the "collector"/"CHUG" line down to cover "older kids" (10+) instead of being a strict niche, allowing for more resources to be allocated there and distribution outside strict toy stores in places like grocery stores where Prime Deluxes/Voyagers were previous. Hasbro were receptive to doing away with the idea of a "mainline" because they'd just come off of Aligned's failure, and so providing a pipeline to funnel new generations to G1 product seemed like a next best thing for a "franchise evergreen".
Reminds me that I hate how cheaply made the new generic evergreen Transformers are that are in places like grocery stores now. Hell the recent Arcee one can't even stand up without help. There's a few gems in there but the majority are cheaply made jank that make the G1 mini-vehicles seem like Masterpiece toys.
Every time I pick up HFTD Axor off the shelf is startling. The fact that the ROTF Lockdown mold was a DELUXE is just unfathomable to me now.

The contrast between Animated Blurr and Beast Hunters Knockout is just as insane. I remember you could pick up Animated deluxes for around 10 bucks at one point, while Knockout cost me almost double that (lmao Europe).
The ones in that size class have a few standouts, the Soundwave is actually pretty amazing and Shockwave is good as a display piece in robot mode (the 'ship' mode is jank though). The smaller size class is the one that's usually a travesty. The only one I've seen that qualifies as 'good' is Barricade.
The Dinobots are a bunch of Core class sizes this time so completing that set will be cheap at least. Already have Slag and Sludge getting shipped to me.
Huh, weird, there's already a Skar who is one of Doubledealer's partners. They usually don't reuse names in the same continuity like that and a Skar toy just came out last year or so.
Starscream actually working with Megatron instead of trying to frick him over and as a result absolutely devastating the Autobots was nice to see. Not very often we get to see just how effective Megatron and Starscream are when they actually work together.
It's a very slow burn but pretty inoffensive. Optimus being stuck in 'grave and stoic' mode the entire show drags it down along with the focus on the 3 kids eating up a lot of screen time.
They explain it away as Primes always being serious. When the rest of the Autobots are actually having a good time, Prime goes out on patrol or whatever. As Arcee says, "Primes don't party".
Which sucks as G1 Optimus before the movie and several other ones knew how to have fun. The reason OG Optimus was so beloved was because he seemed like a fun encouraging father figure to have around.
S1: Earth is Unicron
S2: Race to find ancient artifacts
S3: Predacons and Ultimate Optimus
End movie has Optimus merge with the Allspark to revive Cybertron and Megatron fricks off to become a monk or something.
Takes a lot of aspects from the live action movies, the ninja-style action, Bumblebee speaking only through beeps and boops, Megatron as a space jet, Soundwave with tactical tentacles, etc.
>a-ackshually the sweet motherly robot chick from the G1 movie is an edgy psycho who got a forced sex change from Cybertronian John Money
what did Simon Furman mean by this
His hang-up over why Transformers need genders and why this one particular one is female out of the hundreds of male ones already shown led to him making a really idiotic decision in adding her to the story. His way of adding her to the Marvel UK comic was just as bad as she was created to appease feminists in-universe.
Best way to handle it is just to have them exist without making any special note of it. They're alien mechanical lifeforms and some just happen to be female, just leave it at that.
>Best way to handle it is just to have them exist without making any special note of it. They're alien mechanical lifeforms and some just happen to be female, just leave it at that.
Hard agree. At the end of the day this is still kids toy line so it's not like we're ever going to get a deep dive into the sexual dimorphism of fricking Transformers. Any further attempts to flesh things out just confuse the issue further so it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.
They'd already dedicated to the setting mythology but people wanted to see the character whose single trait was being the only girl anyway, and the number of ways you can actually DEPICT "only girl" rather than just ignoring it are extremely limited. The comics at the time were a very specific mindset, and it wouldn't be nearly so infamous were it not for the soft reboot gaining its own very specific audience.
Something like the DS games, but with greater customization for your transformer and all around enhancements to gameplay and graphics, make it something different than the Bayverse to go wild with characters and setting, make humans a threat like in the DS game to encourage being a robot in disguise
I had this idea for a Transformers game. You're in a city, like 5 v 5 team. You start off in protofroms but can scan anything in the city for alt modes. You try to eliminate the other team but really take on the "robots in disguise" concept by trying to blend in and do surprise attacks.
My friend got me into Transformers recently. So far my experience from G1 to Beast Wars: >G1 overall (at least seasons 1 to 2) is ironically (and sometimes unironically) the funniest shit I have ever seen. It is so transparent about making you buy the toys that it wraps around to being hilarious >the 1986 movie is legitimately amazing. The juxtaposition from how shitty but fun the G1 cartoon was to an unironically great movie was a welcome surprise. >G1 Season 3 was actually a pretty interesting watch, I know its pretty unpopular but I do think it's the overall best season even if Rodimus got the short end of the stick around the last couple of episodes >jump straight into Beast Wars and appreciate the fewer number of characters to keep track of along with some very fun banter between the Maximals and Predacons. >Season 2 actually blowing me away with Code of Hero, an actual perfect episode where I felt emotional but didn't cry, and immediately following it up with Transmutate, where it actually got to me and I cried. What an emotional rollercoaster, jesus christ. >Season 3 BW still good but not as good as 2, pretty good finish. Beast Wars Megatron is best Megatron.
I might be a Transformers fan now, where to I go from here? Armada right?
Here you can pretty much take your pick, as you're looking at alternate universes with various (sometimes significant) differences from the stuff you've just watched.
Prime is solid standard Transformers fare, the Unicron Trilogy (Armada/Energon/Cybertron) are basically early- to mid-2000s anime and kinda vary in quality, and Animated is extremely good but packed so full of fanservice that you'll probably want to watch a bit more of what came before to fully appreciate it.
Armada and Energon were done by ACTAS, and it fricking shows they had very little experience with CG in Energon.
Cybertron was done by Gonzo, which is fricking wild, because that's the same studio that made pic related.
As someone who only recently got a G1 Devastator (via that Tonka Collaborative thing), its really not that great a toy. You're better off leaving them uncombined.
basically because the writers and editors are pretty aware of the numerous continuity snarls, weird executive choices, and just weirdness that happen even in individal generations/show runs of the series and just kind of run with it.
Who the frick knows how well that'll turn out? Transformers games can be hit or miss(if not outright canceled) which considering their track record with things I'm not having the best of hopes.
so over bumfrickbee. How many other transformers exist? yet every single fricking thing has to be about that little homosexual. Who, I might add, was never the fricking main character in the OG series. we have bayformers to thank for his popularity.
Should be Hound, he was originally going to be the kid appeal character in the G1 cartoon until the writers decided Bumblebee works better due to not being packed with weapons.
Maybe he will be put in a coma or near death. Other than that would be nice to have a new hero like Mirage. I mean if Marvel can have multiple MCs, then so can Transformers.
Optimus and Bumblebee are the only ones who are off limits (and killing off Optimius only to revive him immediately after has become something of a signature of every series). Every other Autobot is fair game.
I'm pretty sure Hasbro will have started placing restrictions on the designated "main female" robot.

There's more legacy females now so they can kill off a couple of them with no issue. Arcee was killed in the Bayformers movies with none of the cast really caring that much.

You have Arcee, Elita-1, Windblade, and others now. Deception side is still light on girls and it's not being helped by them switching genders of established characters like they have with Skywarp in EarthSpark.

She wasn't really killed anyway. She'd split her mind into 3 bodies. One of the three survived (the blue one I think) and she went into hiding to get used to working out of a single body again. If I remember the lore correctly.

This. Ironhide was also supposed to be in Prime but the producers thought it might be confusing for some because he's just been killed in DSotM, so they replaced him with Bulkhead. Also, Bumblebee being mute.

Leaked build points to it being a GaaS.
Cybertronians literally live for millenia. Reminder that their shit like "vorns" involve spans of time that can encompass the entirety of our history as a civilization.
No, they've been doing this for 4 million+ years in most continuities and some don't even remember why they're fighting in the first place (or were created during the war to be soldiers and dropped on the battlefield moments after getting activated so that's the only existence they know).
The previous comic continuity basically picked up in popularity when they relaunched it around them getting tired and after a year it stopped being novel and started being extremely gay in a literal sense
on Ganker there was some back and forward for an idea of a slice of life series about after the war. >Optimus Prime decides to become a real trucker in the U.S. >Barricade decides to become a real police (car) and is teamed with a human officer >Starscream is running a criminal organization with human and cybertronian youths who think he's hot shit since he's an ex-decepticon >Bumblebee is getting back in touch with shitloads of human friends he's made over his time on earth.
Kind of, at least the first season, but by the end of it with them realizing Megatron didn't die in the first episode, things went back to them trying to deal with the Decepticons. With the added twist of these autobots all being basically civilians and honestly unprepared but trying earnestly to step up while desperately trying to contact cybertron.
Also, Megatron actually meant it in this one when he said starscream betrayed him for the last time. Sort of.
Hell they were so unprepared for actual fighting in Animated even supervillain humans gave them trouble for awhile (plus the whole "it would be wrong to reduce one of them to a smear on the pavement so we can't just step on them").
Funnily enough it was Hasbro that originally said to have them fight humans then it was also Hasbro who said get rid of the human villains and focus only on the Decepticons later.
and it actually worked pretty well giving a sense of progression to the abilities of the heroes. Also crazy how Starscream was such a legitimate threat for so long just by himself in that series. I honestly did work out pretty well if you ask me.

Yeah, the first season paced them out enough to when one showed up it was a big deal for the Autobots and when there were two or more together they really had to struggle. When Megatron actually returned to lead them the Autobots had to really step up their game and became more effective.
he unironically fits the character perfectly. I would love to have him voice him again if they ever do a more mature show/anime. I know Steve blume's voicing him again in the new game and he's incredibly good too. But I think the animated actor sounds so much more menacing

Blum's performance suited the slippery scheming frick that is Prime Starscream perfectly, Tom Kenny sounds more like his G1 incarnation but more maniacal and actually threatening.
Thank Primus for Seeker generics so the Autobots have mooks to murder without killing anybody important.
Too bad there's no real generic Autobot models, although using the Prowl/Bluestreak body seems the most obvious.
I really like the "to sell toys" article on the Transformers Wiki because it's a great article about toyetic media and what's written there still applies to things like Pretty Cure or Gundam.
Always surprised me that there wasn't a comic or movie made about a possible future in which humans have advanced AI and created their own robots using dead Autobots/Decepticons and then the AI takes over and decides to eradicate everyone
I love the story and concept for Beast Wars, but the 3D animation style always struck me as having that low-quality bootleg vibe. Because of that it's always been difficult to sit down and watch it because of how distracting it looks. How do I overcome this?
Nova Prime is from the IDW comics, he's a weird case where he's a Prime but he's also a villain. Menasor's from G1, back when they went ham on the combiners
You familiar with the evil Optimus trope? He's sort of similar. except he's his own character. Nova's basically a Transformers expansionist but gets sucked into something called the Dead Universe when exploring (which is what it says on the tin) and becomes a Nemesis to what Primes typically stand for and became basically anti-life (hence why he gets referred to as Nemesis Prime)
Devastation was clearly setting him up to be the big bad if it ever got a sequel which is a shame since Nova could maybe actually be an effective threat and villain if used right.
Probably one of the two good things Dreamwave did for the franchise, the other was making Shockwave a full on evil scientist that pretty much became his 'thing' forever onward.
Dreamwave added a lot more than people realize >The Fallen >The Dinobots' team name before they became the Dinobots: The Lightning Strike Coalition Force (I mean they only really did that in FoC but still) >Optimus being a data clerk before he became Prime >Mad Scientist Shockwave >White Prime (Ultra Magnus' inner robot)
Yes. Dreamwave were easily the best handlers, there was so much love in every comic and they released compendiums explaining all the lore, even the autistic cartoon shit like being able to shrink from a robot to a gun was explained with pages. We live in a bad Transformers timeline without them. Idw can be great and it can be ass, so much inconsistency and lore building takes forever and is sometimes questionable. I still hate that they made Megatron and Galvatron separate characters. They were in Dreamwave but it had to do with a time paradox I think
I don't know who that is. Maybe try providing an actual argument instead of memeing like a child

>I don't know who that is.
Not who you were replying to, but it's very brave of you to describe Dreamwave as "one of the best comic companies" without knowing the two brothers who pretty much, barring talent, were the company in entirety.

I've read the comics, who gives a shit if I know their names? Their work with Transformers destroys any other fictional version of it so far imo, and as anon pointed out
Dreamwave added a lot more than people realize >The Fallen >The Dinobots' team name before they became the Dinobots: The Lightning Strike Coalition Force (I mean they only really did that in FoC but still) >Optimus being a data clerk before he became Prime >Mad Scientist Shockwave >White Prime (Ultra Magnus' inner robot)
they introduced more to the series then most while staying incredibly true to the cartoon and Marvel comic. Really could give a shit what people think of them personally.
>I still hate that they made Megatron and Galvatron separate characters. They were in Dreamwave but it had to do with a time paradox I think
That dates back to Marvel.

ah, makes sense I've only read the first few Marvel comics. Still think TF the movie and even Season 3 are the best depictions of that character
I really want a Transformers farming survival game with the G1 tone. And we get to build and play stuff like this >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__hwgAlJfbE&ab_channel=ComodinCam
>Wonder if there's a Lego trailer and Roller to go with it.
Unfortunately no. You get a stupid energon cube and his interchangeable lazer battle axe. I would have preferred a lego roller at least. But he does have the matrix in his chest plate.
I would say R.I.D is probably slightly worse, not the new one, the one form like 2000.
Armada has frick awful animation and frick tons of filler but manages to have a few great character/story moments
And some of the old animes look bizarre as frick
Energons cgi animation is absolute aids though. It's like they really wanted to make it look like the toy and it shows in a bad way. I also remember Ironhide being insufferable in every way. There were some cool parts though, like the Scorponok Galvatron dynamic at the start. I bailed pretty fast on it even as a kid though.
I dunno I liked Car Robots.
It was refreshing to watch that after Beast Machines and plus Sky Byte and Omega Prime were cool.
And who can say no to holographic dicky.
Yeah I did watch the jap version but only because trying to find the torrent for the english version would be a pain in the neck compared to just grabbing the nip version off of Nyaa
It has its moments and some cool designs but that's about it. It's a pretty bad show that goes on for too long and has more filler than a modern Minecraft update.
Every interesting concept it (and the Unicron trilogy in general) introduced will eventually be explored again with much better writing in Cybertron, RID15 and the IDW comics so I'd just go read that instead.
>Why is Ganker the best board for any hobby not video games?
Its the universal law of Ganker that discussion of any topic will always better on other boards as opposed to said topics on their own dedicated boards
>tfw haven't bought a single transformer in 2 years
I moved on to digimon kits instead although I heard Tarn got a toy coming so I might finally get back into transformer collecting.
I really wish that guy from the pre-Animated ("HERO" iirc"?) development concept art had been the first Decepticon-face instead of Tarn. Now nobody else can do it without treating it as a direct reference.
Eh, Megatronus was using it as face first so Tarn isn't even the inventor of it. Nobody outside of IDW readers or those who watched Cyberverse would even know who Tarn is anyway.
I did a Cybertronian playtrough in Stellaris lately. I was easily the most OP faction. I led a Unified Cybetronian Empire full of people who never died under Megatron. in a system that actually resembled that of Cybertron. This was until Megatron died in battle and Six shot took over. I had a Decepticon vassal I discovered that I made work for Great mod, would recommend. Energon is a very useful resource to exploit the shit out of. Even has custom ship sets and custom starts
Maximals
Here's your Optimus Primal bro
Cars, planes, and boats I get
But what practical use is there for a robot to turn into a gorilla?
To shield from Energon overload. No shit, that's actually why they all turn into animals
What the other guy said plus climbing.
Monke strong, monke good
To sell different toys, kids didn't need a 4th variation of prime that looks 90% the same
he monke
So is he from the future or what? Optimus Primal shouldn't co-exist with Optimus Prime, should he? I kinda figured the entire point behind his name was that he was named after a famous dead guy.
I like both
well played I like them too
trukk not munky!!!
>Loses the beast wars
Is this the one with the cheetah? Cause that shit was radical
Yes, his name is Cheetor.
the movie version looks like shit to me for some reason, I also remember wishing really hard that he'd get a happy meal toy or some shit but I knew somewhere in my heart it was impossible
really not excited that it doesn't look like it's following up the bumble bee film too well and the designs aren't looking as nice this time
agreed. Also mixing the beasts with the G1 formers was dumb, now there beast modes have literally no point. Feels like shoe-horned fan service, but it's not being headed by bay so it will probably at least be fun.
ah yes, the homosexual option
Beast Machines is such a weird show.
I thought virtually all the designs in BM were hideous too so that also doesn't help my opinions on it.
The designs for that scrapped beast machines sequel looked pretty cool. It's really a shame we got RID instead of that.
Rattrap got done so fricking dirty in Beast Machines it wasn't even funny.
The designers for the two series really had it in for him for some reason. They originally wanted him to be a malformed cripple in Beast Wars as well with the top of his head actually being his exposed brain along with exposed innards and mismatched arms. Beast Machines let them try again and they actually got away with it.
To be fair it was the 90s, grossout shit was the norm at the time
It also doesn't help that it's really repetitive
>"SCATTER"
>that one fricking song keeps playing over and over and over (you know the one)
Autobots
Skywarp has a kino color pallette.
i sometimes forget transformers was originally a japanese line
>SW/TC
best pair
>Decepticons have better alt modes (you know, actual fighting vehicles)
>Air superiority
>Megatron is a walking WMD
>Still lose.
>The two competent ones (Shockwave and Soundwave) are too fricking beta to step up and tell Megatron his plan is fricking stupid and Starscream needs to be scrapped
I'll stick with autobots. Thank you.
And in Marvel Shockwave kicked Megatron's ass the first chance he got.
Oh yeah, I forgot but I shouldn't have as I have that exact comic showcased in the center of my room. I need to re-read the Marvel stuff.
never read it but I do remember hearing about that, including a sad page where the Decepticons and Autobots teamed up and in the aftermath Shockwave was telling Optimus how it makes him wish there could be peace but also knew ill feelings ran too deep on both sides.
Also why I put Shockwave was 'one of the only competent ones'.
end of the day skywarp is a fricking idiot doesn't matter if he can fly head first into the ground
Will it ever be topped?
nope, best transformers game ever
there may be other good games I dont remember tho
Devastation was rad but it was really short
I thought Devastation was better
Devastation is all style and no substance. The story was so barebones that it may as well have not existed. Fun though.
This, the fact that it has one of the sickest combat systems in the genre is honestly kind of comedic. That game makes G1 look way cooler than it actually is. Wished it got a bigger budget, you really can tell it was a budget title but at least it has the best boss roster in a Platinum game imo.
>That game makes G1 look way cooler than it actually is.
frick off secondary
G1 is very goofy but in a fun way. It's my first Transformers series bro.
The movie is very based though, peak Transformers media.
no Decepticons no buy
I thought War for Cybertron was better personally but still loved both games. Hell I didn't think Rise of the Dark Spark was terrible. Kind of a weird way to end the trilogy though
NO OPTIMUS
the Great Debate...
>character famous for faceplate
>give him goggles instead of a face mask
At least Megatron went for the no brainer haircut.
Optimus has been going "no faceplate on casual mode" for a good long while now. It's Soundwave that's the one perpetually in a mask nowadays.
actual figure has a swapable head with a mask
Not even a Decepticongay, but fem-Megatron's design is way, way better to the point where I honestly believe they made fem-Optimus bad on purpose.
> Optimus lacks blue crotch block.
Tut tut.
I do not care what anyone will say
Rule 63 Optimus Prime has a THICK Filipino accent. This is FACT.
Need tomboy Starscream
>You could strangle thrash and frick her raw as hard as you can and she'll take it all

I just want to be mangled by heavy machinery
memoryholed by the community due to SJW butthurt over the Sakomoto pack-in comics Except Trickdiamond in IDW but that's mainly just because she's less of a horny fembot and more just R64 Swindle.
Lunaclub is in IDW too. They get wheeled out with alarming regularity because authors are desperate for any wom-bot that Hasbro will let them treat as expendable and isn't from something "creepy".
To be fair the MegaEmpress toys are much better looking than the Torchbearers. Whoever thought of that watermelon color for the latter needs shot.
Forgot pic.
Doesn't help either set that the car and helicopter molds were already used about 5098028340945 times before in Combiner Wars so that was even less reason to be interested in the Torchbearers.
Out of 10
I know they made Autobots some civilian vibes compared to authoritative Decepticions but couldn't they atleast try a bit with the design?
>Humans
Cringe.
Autobot with a military hardware alt-mode
Like Warpath?
Perceptor actually shoots in that scene, I thought he was supposed to be a pacifist who never fired on the enemy (except for that one bit of trench warfare in Transformers The Movie).
You may have him confused with first aid. Pereceptor is a scientist, so he doesnt fight much, but he does have moments.
They also turned him into a sniper in that old idw series.
First Aid's toy comes with a gun and a cannon.
Congratulations on being pigeonholed as the dumbass of the group. Join the deceptions instead where the group iq is lower and you'll be appreciated.
Join me or die you incompetent fools

I'm so glad we got the Cybertron games because the most interesting part of Transformers has always been the civil war on Cybertron but, it was never really explored all that much despite having plenty of storytelling potential, especially if you want to add a little nuance to the setting.
Like, sure, you can make Megatron a villain because he's a power hungry dude who kicks puppies—and that's fine—but you can also make him a radical revolutionary who dreams of restoring his world to some lost, ancient glory through any means necessary.
i dont think optimus prime would be as popular as if he didnt have his mouthguard thing
its one of his main characteristics that makes him cool
are there any good transformers games?
Yeah, Fall of Cybertron and Devastation, and maybe the Armada game
you forgot war for cybertron it was kino
clicking play on this song gave me proper 'nam flashbacks
The only thing I hoped for some sort of game in which you can make your own Transformer to do whatever you want whether you want to do, human companions are optional.
Also which company owns the Transformers IP, I can see them taking part in a few crossovers themselves again if worst comes to it. Preferably SRW if they still have Japanese ownership
>which company owns the Transformers IP
Hasbro.
Well there goes most possibilities of there being more decent stuff that comes out of the series. Sure its a toy company but even then they can still do a few things with the series outside of Netflix specials that no one is gonna watch and who knows how that new planned videogame of theirs is gonna turn out.
They can farm it out to competent devs if they want, they're just content to give it to smaller, no-name studios to save a buck.
SHUT THE FRICK UP
It's co-owned by Hasbro and Takara
Anon, Im pretty sure Transformers Rise is exactly that, its yet to come out but ive been looking at leaks on and off, it looks promising

Will we ever get a better adaptation than the Netflix series? I should read the comics but I wish an animated series that would cover everything.
What is the best Transformers comic?
last stand of the wreckers
Featuring everyone's favorite edgelord!
More than Meets the Eye
First "season" at the least. Second is very spotty and it went to shit after it was renamed to Lost Light.
The Wreckers Trilogy.
It's funny how whenever they try to portray the Decepticons as more sympathetic, they still end up being horrible. Occasionally they're even worse than when they were just buttholes for no reason.
Which Decepticon was it that sometimes helped the Autobots? Soundwave?
That sounds like it's a question thats dependent on series.
For the last decade or so? Megatron. The guys basically got a permanent spot on Amy autobot roster dealing with a big threat.
Jetfire famously defected to the Autobots.
Decepticons:
>Slag is a piece of shit psychopath, a total butthole who is worse than many Decepticons, and only on the Autobots side because of Grimlock.
at least he's polite about it
Wasnt Starcream an autobot in one anime or something?
He unofficially switched in Armada, yeah.
Comics?
If you've never seen Beast Wars, watch it. Yes, the CG is ancient. Its still good.
This was so kino and still my favorite interpretation of Starscream
In the old cartoon? Season 3 it was Blitzwing, Octane, and Astrotrain for some strange reason. They all three got an episode where they defected.
Real answer: they were all going to star Blitzwing, Octane got swapped in without changing the script to sell his toy.
Octane is the greatest Decepticon ever, that's what he told me.
Why would anyone ever doubt him? He's a bot of his word, tried and true.
whoever it was it certainly wasn't Soundwave
Youre thinking of Thundercracker
Megatron's design is so good I will forever seethe at Bay for what he did to him.
cope
okay, but the idea of megatron with a tanktread cape sounds BADASS, where can i get this
Bay did nothing to him. You still have that Megatron.
Dinobot >>> Maximals > Decepticons > Autobots > Predacons > everyone else
New good transformers games when?
>hasbro
>pulling their heads out of their asses
never
The company owners didn't even bother to know the power rangers' faces during their prime, what a fricking joke of a company
At least the toys are still good.
Er, the Transformers toys, I should specify. Power Rangers I only have a few Lightning Collection monsters.
Well something changed if the rpg community managed to get them to put the dnd 5e srd on the creative commons license and backpeddal entirely on the new OGL.
Never, We will never get another game on par with the cybertron duo-logy.
>New good
Heh.
Ridiculous frog croacker.
Is there a guide for watching Transformers?
watch the anime ones first. way better
>TF anime
>Better
Armada was good. I'd rank it above the original. I could live without the other anime versions though
With how popular anime is in the west these days, I could honestly see a Transformers Anime doing quite well these days compared to the heavily localized trash that was the Unicron trilogy
the headmasters song slaps
>KAWARE HEADOMASOTAAAAAAA!! TATAKAE HEADOMASOTAAAAAAA
The 1986 movie is where they peaked. Everything else has just been an attempt to replicate that.
US G1 seasons 1-3 (skip season 4 unless you're really curious), US Beast Wars (Beast Machines if you're curious), Animated, Prime.
Pretty much all you need there. Almost all JP animated offerings are aimed at very young children even younger than what the G1 cartoon was aiming at.
>Beast Machines if you're curious
NTA but if you like Beast Wars you will probably hate Beast Machines.
>no Armada or Cybertron

Why does this OST go so HARD Ganker??
also post your favorite song from the game
>they gave one of the sickest themes to a fricking on-rail shooter section
I frequently listen to this soundtrack when at the gym, the fact that they got the guitarist from the 1986 movie is just crazy to me. Honestly surprising how many hardcore G1 fans are at Platinum.
These are my top 3:
Devastation 2 never ever. I just want another game but without the loot shit.

Shockwave's theme is so damn optimistic - it really should have been the autobot theme.
Beast Wars Predacons.
I'll take the weird 'guilty or innocent' squid aliens. They were pretty entertaining.
Was it based or cringe?
Cringe. Megs is a psychopath but understood the cost of revolution before he lost his marbles.
I think being in a valley filled with an unfathomable number of flowers to depict the number of bots you've ended up killing in the middle of your ongoing life crisis might do a number on you.
Fine once. They don't need to keep doing it.
Based until one or two issues after that scene. Basically when Anode showed up it started going downhill.
But up to that point it was amazing.
Best lads related.
>ywn go on comfy space adventures with the scavengers
frick my life
Hurry up and make a Fulcrum toy, Hasbro.
something tells me Hasbro wouldn't be too keen on making a toy of the guy whose alt mode is solely there for him allahu ackbar himself.
Eh, if they're willing to tweak the DJD's alt modes to make them toy appropriate, Fulcrum shouldn't be a problem.
Could had sworn Fulcrom or another one of the Decepticons with a bomb mode was already made a toy
Based. On Lost Light things started bad, and just when it looked like Roberts was finding his foot again, the reboot was announced, he had to rushed the story and no editor was in place to reel him in, so we got a pretty bad last third of the run.
There was a lot of problems with this, first being that they choose the worst Megs to do it with.
Gave us the kino flower field scene
exceedingly based but I still don't blame Getaway for reacting the way he did.
I liked Prime's take better where he was shown Hell and was immediately convinced he was in the wrong
>gets controlled by unicron for 10 minutes
>"I now understand oppression is bad"
that shit was so fricking stupid
I loved it soley for megatron, and his backstory, and his character growth into an autobot
Everything else i didnt much care for, especially the random sideplots and romances.
He should have been given his own comic series
Also RIP Ravage, loved him too
>ragtag group just trying to make a living after the war has ended
I miss these dumbasses like you wouldnt believe.
love the fact that the decepticons had their own imageboard and the scavengers canonically spent a ton of their time just being jackasses on it. they're literally me.
Cons are cooler, they have Starscream the weasly little rat who's a fighter jet 99% of the time. I fricking love fighter jets.
Starscream was an Autobot who switched sides.
He's a Con now, so it counts. Such a clean machine, that guy. If only he wasn't a weasel.
>If only he wasn't a weasel.
That's the best part.
I'm surprised Rodimus doesn't come back.
People fricking love Galvatron.
They made some new toys of him lately. But storywise its considered "tired", just like using Unicron again.
The same reason Optimus can't stay dead. Rodimus is also the unlucky bastard that had to succeed cybertronian jesus.
Rodimus Prime will always have a stigma attached to him due to how the third season of the cartoon handled him as complaining about being leader and not up to Optimus's caliber. The fact the story itself had Optimus come back and take leadership again didn't help opinions on him.
Media to this day still loves to shit on him, with IDW turning him into a wienery butthole unfit for leadership and the Power of the Primes series having him be mind controlled by Unicron.
i hate bumper sticker. but if i ever get a really really nice sports car, im putting a(small) deception logo on the back of it

They knew what they were doing
One thing I can't get over is that Transformers completely skipped the 16bit era, it's bizarre
Did no one in that time from the late 80s to early-mid 90s not pitch a Transformers game for the Genesis, SNES? Hell, fricking NEO GEO?
they would've sucked anyway
Nobody gave a frick about transformers in the early 90's is the problem. Until Beast Wars they had no idea what the frick to do with the series after they ran out of Diaclone toys to steal.
There was almost an SNES game.

Decptichads rise up
I never really understood why transforming was a thing on Cybertron. It makes sense as a gimmick invented so they can hide/investigate Earth without freaking out the Government. But what exactly is the purpose of your entire species being able to transform into a car/jet/gun? Wouldn't just roller skates or jetboots be a lot simpler?
You're not going to sell toys that way. The entire series is about selling toys. Anything extra you're lucky they even bothered.
The show and all that jazz takes place on Earth so the justification for transforming is there. I just don't get why it's treated as a universal thing for Cybertronian society in the super deep expanded lore.
Because it's cooler
In Hound's own words: It beats walking.
And the gun stuff is just for fighting purposes.
I don't see why wouldn't you transform, if you can do it.
Wouldn't you like to transform into a car so you can go anywhere you want?
Because it's cost effective. And because it's rad as hell.
1) they actually hid from each other as shown on their home planet in the first G1 episode.
2) They have noses, mouths, teeth, tongues, facial hair, and in some versions human like genitalia. Don't think to hard on this shit that was made to sell toys.
pretty sure it was because the autobots and decepticons were slaves originally and their transformations supplemented their role.
decepticons being used for military/soldier roles, their transformations were geared for combat hence why they transform into guns and jets also why they can fly
autobots were the labor force so their vehicle forms are better such as trucks hauling cargo or microscopes for research.
and like
said it helps in their guerilla tactics
In the original cartoon canon it was kind of portrayed like a martial art, a function they learned and practiced. Their creators, the Quintessons also divided the autobots/decepticons between labor roles and military application respectively which their transformations fall under.
Yeah it doesn't make sense for them to transform into human tech before finding earth, just go with it.
All these years and I don't even know why they were fighting. Autobots are good so they fight the Decepticons because they're evil...I guess?
Autobots wanna live in peace, Decpeticons wanna conquer and enslave the universe. For the most part.

Yes, starwars is good.
I hate the Bay movie insignias, especially the Decepticon one as the eyes are too tiny.
guess i'm redownloading War for/Fall of Cybertron then
>Feel better?
>Yes. Sorry.
>Don't be. On this ship a mental breakdown is a rite of passage.
Autobots inferior.
Decepticons superior.
why did they make them so cute
I really hope Rise of the Beasts brings some more popularity back to the franchise. As bad as the Bay films were, they at least helped fund a lot of the cool shit for core fans like Prime, Animated, WfC/FoC, etc.
I’d like to see them take another crack at some sort of aligned continuity, or a large scale project in general to give us a break from the low budget monotony, but with how Hasbro is doing financially, I don’t see it being within the realm of possibility
I just want the new movie to light a fricking fire under WalMart's ass so they can actually RESTOCK their shit more often.
Who knows
Hot Shot just got a new toy and there's a Legacy Armada Starscream at the least and was already said they remembered Animated exists.
Animated Prowl is this year.
https://news.tfw2005.com/2023/01/08/legacy-evolution-deluxe-animated-prowl-in-hand-image-gallery-472757
>You're in luck, this year they're doing a bunch of toys based on Armada figures with a few Animated ones sprinkled in
God dammit. I thought I had a few more years before I was considered old enough to be milked financially.
>the best animated and most stylized episode of the show
>its one of the last episodes from the third season

Frick off.
do you have any faith in "Reactivate" ?
No gameplay no hype. Thems da rulez.
Considering hasblow now only wants to make play2pay microtransaction games, no.
Post transformations gayits
As much as I love Starscream, seeing him get brutally murdered by Megatron in Animated is always cathartic
eh, I feel like they kinda messed up by not having the main Con team having more scenes with each other.
>No bellybutton
What's even the point of the midriff?
I'm glad the toyline is finally remembering Animated exists as Animated Prowl is getting a new toy soon with more to follow.
The movies are shit, but... I do have nostalgia for the first 2 parts
Even if my brain understands how garbage they are
If we ever get another game like devastation who would you add or swap out in the roster?
Sunstreaker and Jazz. Or Trailbreaker, but thats more of a long shot.
Warpath, Jetfire, Arcee, Mirage. In a perfect world it gets a big enough budget for a decipticon campaign.
Why couldn't we get a full movie of pic related? budget be damned,
This one scene made me get into Transformers ever since I was a kid, even if only to buy studio series constructicons but miss out on two of them
>This one scene made me get into Transformers ever since I was a kid
frick I'm old
Sorry im shit at writing, meant to say it like it got me back into transformers as if i was a kid again
Theres a toy of that Soundwave now. You can even get a little Ravage to put in his chest.
Too bad both toys are mediocre to garbage. Got them both and already packed them away for SG Soundwave.
Soundwave's robot mode is nice. Thats about it.
>SG Soundwave
Nice.
I thought of getting him since I love the bay-g1 design Bumblebee gave him, but my current search is SS long haul and Overload for a somewhat acceptable price
But that's from the 2018 movie.
>This one scene made me get into Transformers ever since I was a kid
the frick
>back during Combiner Wars the Stunticons were only about 12 dollars apiece for the regular figures and about 25 for the leader
>now during Legacy they're 25 apiece for the regular figures and Motormaster was fricking 80 bucks
This is a kid's toyline?
No, the kids toyline was Cyberverse and now Earthspark. Legacy is a "collector's line". If kids buy them too, hey great, but they're not the target audience.
I just hope they don't do any more combiners outside of Menasor and Volcanicus as my wallet won't like it. If they do Legacy Combaticons I have to dive back in.
I hear that. I might finally retire my Fall of Cybertron Bruticus if they do.
Seeing how light, hollow and small all the new stuff is really makes me appreciate my old Cybertron through HftD-era stuff.
I dunno, they're hit and miss. Given the size and articulation, 10 bucks for this guy is a steal. If it just had a few more paint apps....
The ones in that size class have a few standouts, the Soundwave is actually pretty amazing and Shockwave is good as a display piece in robot mode (the 'ship' mode is jank though). The smaller size class is the one that's usually a travesty. The only one I've seen that qualifies as 'good' is Barricade.
autobots obviously
what show?
I like the style
The first one is Cyberverse, and the second one is G1.
based and thanks
First one is Cyberverse. Second is G1.
Transformers
Oh, wait, Volcanicus is a pretty blatant Dinoking pretool. Okay, that too.
The Dinobots are a bunch of Core class sizes this time so completing that set will be cheap at least. Already have Slag and Sludge getting shipped to me.
Wait shit, there's going to be 6 of them this time? They're going to remember Slash exists or just make another new Dinobot that gets forgotten?
are there any good sentai rangers gundam build parts that have been released only in japan?
Someone redpill me on prime.
I catched a few episodes when it aired and it seemed cool but i've been told its painfully dull.
Its limited by the small cast and the scramble for season 3, but its got strong characterization and does some new things, like zombies.
According to leaks its a new G1 Dinobot named 'Skar'. If they really are doing Dinoking he'll probably be an ankylosaurus.
Huh, weird, there's already a Skar who is one of Doubledealer's partners. They usually don't reuse names in the same continuity like that and a Skar toy just came out last year or so.
Technically theres precedent.
https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Skar_(IDW)
But whatever, I just want a new, official toy of Paddles.
If you liked what you saw then you'll probably like the rest.
Thats whats nice about Earthspark. Its Optimus likes to joke around and be relatable, even if its corny stuff like using hashtags.
S1: Earth is Unicron
S2: Race to find ancient artifacts
S3: Predacons and Ultimate Optimus
End movie has Optimus merge with the Allspark to revive Cybertron and Megatron fricks off to become a monk or something.
Takes a lot of aspects from the live action movies, the ninja-style action, Bumblebee speaking only through beeps and boops, Megatron as a space jet, Soundwave with tactical tentacles, etc.
then there's the JP version that throws out season 3 and focuses on samurai robots instead because why not.
Best Arcee incarnation, focus on characters. However it slowly degrades because they didn't know what to do with Optimus.
When it was originally airing most people gave up during S2 because of the perception that "find macguffin of the week" was filler.
threadly reminder Arcee is a trap
comics are never canon
>a-ackshually the sweet motherly robot chick from the G1 movie is an edgy psycho who got a forced sex change from Cybertronian John Money
what did Simon Furman mean by this
His hang-up over why Transformers need genders and why this one particular one is female out of the hundreds of male ones already shown led to him making a really idiotic decision in adding her to the story.

You can now make any Transformers game. What do you make?

Harem game
Something like the DS games, but with greater customization for your transformer and all around enhancements to gameplay and graphics, make it something different than the Bayverse to go wild with characters and setting, make humans a threat like in the DS game to encourage being a robot in disguise
Third High Moon game, set on various planets after Fall's ending.

Why were these guys made again?
Like, in real life? To flesh out the Transformers origin.
Yeah but didn't they scrap that shit in every continuity afterwords in favor of the whole Primus transformer god thing?
Pretty much. Nowadays if they ever show up they just try to enslave Cybertron well after its creation and get their asses kicked.
I care for neither
Easy.
I had this idea for a Transformers game. You're in a city, like 5 v 5 team. You start off in protofroms but can scan anything in the city for alt modes. You try to eliminate the other team but really take on the "robots in disguise" concept by trying to blend in and do surprise attacks.
Sounds like a mix of the movie DS games and the 3DS Dark Spark game (a RTS).
really? were those games any good?
The movie games are, considering the system they were made for.
The Dark Spark game is good, but painfully easy and short (its a WayForward licensed game).
OOH OH YOUR CITY
Don't necessarily disagree with the Deception's position, but they're a bunch of jerks so Autobots any day.

I could never get into transformers. And I remember hating the Michael Bay movies.
>And I remember hating the Michael Bay movies.
Natural reaction.
nah DotM is fun
At least the last half of it
no
Also, if you guys ever get the chance to play the two Sega arcade shooters, you should.
Transformers meets House of the Dead. Good stuff.
My friend got me into Transformers recently. So far my experience from G1 to Beast Wars:
>G1 overall (at least seasons 1 to 2) is ironically (and sometimes unironically) the funniest shit I have ever seen. It is so transparent about making you buy the toys that it wraps around to being hilarious
>the 1986 movie is legitimately amazing. The juxtaposition from how shitty but fun the G1 cartoon was to an unironically great movie was a welcome surprise.
>G1 Season 3 was actually a pretty interesting watch, I know its pretty unpopular but I do think it's the overall best season even if Rodimus got the short end of the stick around the last couple of episodes
>jump straight into Beast Wars and appreciate the fewer number of characters to keep track of along with some very fun banter between the Maximals and Predacons.
Armada, Robots in Disguise,or Prime are good
If you liked the small cast and writing of Beast Wars you might like Prime. Skip Beast Machines.
Don't skip Beast Machines
Endure the rocky start and watch it to the end. Truck and monkey should be friends.
There was this one ecchi Arcee pic that I really liked, now I can't find and I am sad.
TERRORIZE REEEEEEEEEEE
It's still funny how much better animated Beast Wars is compared to Cybertron/Energon.
Armada and Energon were done by ACTAS, and it fricking shows they had very little experience with CG in Energon.
Cybertron was done by Gonzo, which is fricking wild, because that's the same studio that made pic related.
i can't decide which one i want
As someone who only recently got a G1 Devastator (via that Tonka Collaborative thing), its really not that great a toy. You're better off leaving them uncombined.
I just can't bring myself to buy unofficial versions. Partly because they're almost all expensive as shit.
Yeah, but they looks so good. Watching reviews, they look way better than official crap from Hasbro.
If you have 20 bucks and a PSVR, the Transformers shooter from last fall isn't too bad.
I can't tell if Devastation sucks or if I'm getting filtered
When did Ganker become so based?? Now this is my kind of thread.
I liked the film, but wtf was up with that weird al part
They paid to have him in the OST, and dammit they were gonna use him.
Why is the wiki full of jokes
basically because the writers and editors are pretty aware of the numerous continuity snarls, weird executive choices, and just weirdness that happen even in individal generations/show runs of the series and just kind of run with it.
Because taking the franchise completely seriously is a fool's errand.
Shockwave gave us the most badass TF comic cover of all time and it was only issue 5.
fun
Shitty voice acting ruined that series for me.
Because there based
Carbomya is some Family Guy tier shit man.
yeah but it's a race joke a cartoon made for 6 year olds. Oh and the voice of Cliffjumper (shaggy) quit over this episode
You should never take Transformers completely seriously.
So how about that Transformers Reactivate, huh?
Who the frick knows how well that'll turn out? Transformers games can be hit or miss(if not outright canceled) which considering their track record with things I'm not having the best of hopes.
so over bumfrickbee. How many other transformers exist? yet every single fricking thing has to be about that little homosexual. Who, I might add, was never the fricking main character in the OG series. we have bayformers to thank for his popularity.
The new trailer shows Bumblebee getting stabbed and "shock killed" so maybe we might get a new face which is Mirage to be the cool kid robot.
Should be Hound, he was originally going to be the kid appeal character in the G1 cartoon until the writers decided Bumblebee works better due to not being packed with weapons.
The sporty Porsche car is more appealing and Hound was already in TF4 and 5.
>transformers
>shock killing a main character to replace them with a new face ever again after the movie
Lmao, lol even. They're never gonna frick around with that idea ever again.
I mean it happened all throughout Bayformers
and in the Netflix "anime"
Maybe he will be put in a coma or near death. Other than that would be nice to have a new hero like Mirage. I mean if Marvel can have multiple MCs, then so can Transformers.
Marvel doesn't have an identity crisis and start deliberating on reboots the moment China snubs a single movie.
>Arcee was killed in the Bayformers movies with none of the cast really caring that much.
In 2009, a decade before they started their big push of ensuring there's always a female character on shelves.
AOE confirms she's dead-dead.
I swore I read somewhere that that's why Prime Arcee and the others that came after were all blue instead of pink, because it was the blue one that survived RotF.
Prime has no relationship to the movie continuity.
She's blue in Prime because Jack riding a pink motorcycle would be pretty homosexual.
>Prime has no relationship to the movie continuity.
He was suggesting it was one of those "brand unity" mandates they liked during that era, like the cancelled season of Animated needing to add Ironhide to the main autobot cast.
This. Ironhide was also supposed to be in Prime but the producers thought it might be confusing for some because he's just been killed in DSotM, so they replaced him with Bulkhead. Also, Bumblebee being mute.
Prime Arcee is blue because someone in the production process was worried about having the male protagonist ride a pink vehicle.
Comics and toy bios aren't canon to the actual movies.
They should have made Rodimus kino

Leaked build points to it being a GaaS.
People needed more than the description they released alongside that trailer to know it was a Destiny clone?
Yeah, frick that shit.
Also sick of them making Bumblebee the focus and turning him into some buff warrior.
While we're on the topic of Shockwave, I just found out he's voiced by English dub Kiryu in Devastation.
Why did they do it bros....
those "realistic" bayformers designs are so shit.
one on the right is great and isn't bayformers
I was refering to the abomination on the left.
I don't get why they're so obsesed with having Optimus with his mask off, they could at least not give him such a dumb fricking face
Better than having Meg's helmet come off and reveal his long luxurious hair like in IDW.
Did that really happen?
Yeah, in Megatron Origin
I don't know about hair but there's a somewhat well known page where he has a row of fold out head-flaps.
I fricking loved Megatron Origin and I don't remember that
the zoomer audience and clueless boomers can't figure out which robot Peter Cullen's voice is coming out of.
Well it could be Ironhide talking.
>AHHH WHICH IRONMAN IS TONY STARK TALKING OUT OF
Why do you think the first couple movies constantly cut to that in-helmet close-up HUD shot?
to save cgi budget
>transformes game
>the autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the decepticons
>AGAIN
don't they get tired?
Different continuity, don't worry about it
No. I mean the war was literally going on for over a million years, which doesn't make sense seeing how they'd all be dead by then
Cybertronians literally live for millenia.
>Barricade decides to become a real police (car) and is teamed with a human officer
>Starscream is running a criminal organization with human and cybertronian youths who think he's hot shit since he's an ex-decepticon
>Bumblebee is getting back in touch with shitloads of human friends he's made over his time on earth.
That kind of shit.
Sounds fun, although didn't Animated go down that road slightly already?
Casting Spongebob as Starscream was fricking inspired. I really need to rewatch Animated, it's so good.
he unironically fits the character perfectly.
Autotrooper/Autorooper.
Forgot about those, but most sane people try to forget anything originating from Kiss Players so I have an excuse.
Decepticons for Soundwave alone.
I really like the "to sell toys" article on the Transformers Wiki because it's a great article about toyetic media and what's written there still applies to things like Pretty Cure or Gundam.
Hail Megatron
Megatron did nothing wrong
>Metroplex heeds the call of the last Prime...
Was it Kino, lads?
As kino as the Phantom Pain trailers
>tfw we never got to see Metroplex and Trypticon get into a huge Kaiju fight
wasn't in the budget
Metroplex? More like KinoSex!
Always surprised me that there wasn't a comic or movie made about a possible future in which humans have advanced AI and created their own robots using dead Autobots/Decepticons and then the AI takes over and decides to eradicate everyone
Whirl!
I love the story and concept for Beast Wars, but the 3D animation style always struck me as having that low-quality bootleg vibe. Because of that it's always been difficult to sit down and watch it because of how distracting it looks. How do I overcome this?
Devastator will always be my favorite combiner.
So I beat Devastation fairly recently, who the hell is Nova Prime? Where's he from? He looks cool
Where's Menasor from too, I wanna see them
Nova Prime is from the IDW comics, he's a weird case where he's a Prime but he's also a villain. Menasor's from G1, back when they went ham on the combiners
Nova's mostly from the IDW Comics run.
Prowl is such an butthole I love him.
Do they ever use the Fallen outside of his shitty movie?
Yeah, he's in RiD15 and the Prime Wars trilogy, but the jury's out on whether those are any better
Yup. You'll be surprised to learn he was not an invention of the movies.
Probably one of the two good things Dreamwave did for the franchise, the other was making Shockwave a full on evil scientist that pretty much became his 'thing' forever onward.
Dreamwave added a lot more than people realize
>The Fallen
>The Dinobots' team name before they became the Dinobots: The Lightning Strike Coalition Force (I mean they only really did that in FoC but still)
>Optimus being a data clerk before he became Prime
>Mad Scientist Shockwave
>White Prime (Ultra Magnus' inner robot)
The original Ultra Magnus toy had the white Optimus Prime toy inside it, Dreamwave was just the first US media to actually call attention to it.
They were in Dreamwave but it had to do with a time paradox I think
>defending Dreamwave
Now I've seen it all
>attacking one of the best comic companies
Now I've seen it all
Go to bed Pat Lee, you still everybody money.
Their work with Transformers destroys any other fictional version of it so far imo, and as anon pointed out
they introduced more to the series then most while staying incredibly true to the cartoon and Marvel comic. Really could give a shit what people think of them personally.
>I still hate that they made Megatron and Galvatron separate characters. They were in Dreamwave but it had to do with a time paradox I think
That dates back to Marvel.
ah, makes sense I've only read the first few Marvel comics. Still think TF the movie and even Season 3 are the best depictions of that character
>one of the two good things
they only did good, fake ass fan
Funny enough that's The Fallen on the right in the Splatoon pic under his real name Megatronus.
what show is that version of him from? Animated?
RID2015.
Is it any good lads?? I barely know anything about it tbh. Prime was the last show I watched and enjoyed, for the most part it was fantastic.
It was OK IIRC, definitely nowhere near as good as prime though.
It’s a show for six year olds.
so was Prime and it opened with Starscream stabbing and executing an Autobot and then he bleeds energon from his chest.
Prime was a show aimed at the older demographic who were watching the movies, which is why it imitates so many surface level traits.
Robots in disguise 2016
Robots in Disguise, the sequel to Prime.
There's already an objective answer to this
Just making you aware that those are the furgay decepticons before you commit to this line of reasoning.
YOU GOT THE TOUCH
Fricking c**t killed Optimum Pride.
I really want a Transformers farming survival game with the G1 tone. And we get to build and play stuff like this >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__hwgAlJfbE&ab_channel=ComodinCam
I would give my nutt for an RTS Transformers where units can transform and have two modes.
And maybe even more a fighting game. One exists on phones and it's pretty great but no actual combos.
My gf bought me the Lego Optimus Prime for Christmas. Pretty cool. It even transforms.
Pretty neat. Wonder if there's a Lego trailer and Roller to go with it.
>Wonder if there's a Lego trailer and Roller to go with it.
Unfortunately no. You get a stupid energon cube and his interchangeable lazer battle axe. I would have preferred a lego roller at least. But he does have the matrix in his chest plate.
>can't have Starscream, Blitzwing, Thundercracker and Skywarp because hurrdurr muh military Legorinos NNNOOOOOOO
Just track down a Built to Rule! Starscream.
Jesus Christ I remember that shit.
...you can't have those because they're at least five entries down on the list of "popularly recognizable Transformers characters".
Bullshit
It's a hobby fighter jet for civilians, anon.
If any of you have played this besides me I will be so happy.
Is Energon truly the worst Transformers show?
>Car Robots.
Did you watch it in Japanese then? Maybe I would find it less bad if I didn't have to hear the eng dub of Prime
Yeah I did watch the jap version but only because trying to find the torrent for the english version would be a pain in the neck compared to just grabbing the nip version off of Nyaa
Guess I'll give both a try. They do have one of my fav transformers at least in design of all time - Scourge
It has its moments and some cool designs but that's about it. It's a pretty bad show that goes on for too long and has more filler than a modern Minecraft update.
Every interesting concept it (and the Unicron trilogy in general) introduced will eventually be explored again with much better writing in Cybertron, RID15 and the IDW comics so I'd just go read that instead.
>and the IDW comics
Now THERE'S "goes on for too long and has more filler than a modern Minecraft update"
I might read the comics but so far I'm having fun watching all the cartoons.
Especially because I only really remember the old G1 cartoon
>bump limit
>only one shitposter defending Dreamwave of all things
>better topic than would be on Ganker and /toy/
Why is Ganker the best board for any hobby not video games?
>Why is Ganker the best board for any hobby not video games?
Its the universal law of Ganker that discussion of any topic will always better on other boards as opposed to said topics on their own dedicated boards
Maybe because you shouldnt talk about one topic too often, which is what boards encourage
Frick Bay for ruining the Dinobots
>tfw haven't bought a single transformer in 2 years
I moved on to digimon kits instead although I heard Tarn got a toy coming so I might finally get back into transformer collecting.
It looks pretty decent except for the legs and the fact you can't remove the mask (and no Damus/Glitch face underneath).
that looks so dope. How expensive?
It's a deluxe so probably around 28-34 burger bucks depending on where you get it.
not bad at all tbh. It's either this or the $400 one from what I can tell, lol. Just don't know if I like the paint of the treads
It's a Voyager so it's about 30-35
I really wish that guy from the pre-Animated ("HERO" iirc"?) development concept art had been the first Decepticon-face instead of Tarn.
Autobots: Inferior.
Decepticons: Superior.
Shut the frick up Soundwave. Nobody cares about an uncharismatic bore like you.
>thinking you can get away with calling him unchrasimatic on this board
It took 30 years, but they finally fixed Transformers
>Mfw no dommy Megatron girl
