there is no debate 3 is objectively the best one
Not just that, 3 is the ONLY good MGS game.
there is no debate 2 is objectively the best one
>3 mid games
2>>>>>>>1>>>>>>>>3
>big boss is a ch-ACK
pretty sure every guy has had their mom hit them before
Metal Gear Solid 2 has the best set of twists and overall message.
Metal Gear Solid 3 has the best story and gameplay of the three.
Metal Gear Solid is a good game, but doesn’t excel in anything in particular compared to 2 and 3.
>but doesn’t excel in anything in particular
I like the narrative more than 2 or 3
It’s not bad at all, but it’s pretty anime in the negative sense when you go back to play it again. Kojima and his crew didn’t have a strong handle on the military aspects of the Metal Gear world yet and it definitely shows when you revisit it. Not to say that 2 and 3 aren’t also zaney, but I feel like there are less moments in those games where it feels like it’s trying really hard to sell me on some military shit that is dripping with anime sensibilities.
I always felt it was the opposite. The weebishness definitely amped up but MGS 1’s felt pretty in check. Snake’s written a lot more in line with his roots as an action movie hero than later iterations.
>but doesn’t excel in anything in particular compared to 2 and 3.
Atmosphere and doesn't have any boring/slog parts
>MGS1
Perhaps one of the clearest examples of pure nostalgiagayry. Gameplay effectively doesn't exist, there are about 20 guards to sneak past in total and every boss fight bar one is a gimmick. The dialogue is one of the cringiest things i've ever experienced in any medium.
>MGS2
A very strong stealth game, especially if you consider VR missions. The later parts of the plant chapter are unpopular, I don't mind them. No, not even the underwater escort mission. I really enjoy the story, I think predicting information control among other things warrants pardoning its minor issues. A fantastic game.
>MGS3
Probably still the best action-adventure game i've played. Perfectly paced. Every area has secrets, there are hidden mechanics you keep discovering after numerous playthroughs. Some can't get over the awkward controls but they create an organic sense of progression as you master them. Entertaining character dynamics, great boss fights. An archetypical story and experience. Timeless.
>Perhaps one of the clearest examples of pure nostalgiagayry. Gameplay effectively doesn't exist, there are about 20 guards to sneak past in total and every boss fight bar one is a gimmick.
did you play the game on extreme?
>every boss fight is a gimmick
This applies to the other two games too you retard
>The dialogue is one of the cringiest things i've ever experienced in any medium.
This is true only for the english version and that's because the guy behind it is still a retard that claims to be the reason mgs is popular in the west despite doing more harm than good to the series.
1=2=3 unironically. all three games excel in different aspects and whenever I get the urge to play one I end up playing all three
the series is so good Ganker has to argue over which 9/10 game is the worst
MGS2 is unironically the best one here.
I fully believe the zoomers who say MGS2 is the best game didn’t actually play it and only watched some YouTuber react to the AI Colonel’s ending speech. That’s all I ever hear from it involving praise. You never hear them bemoan how much bad stuff you had to get through to get there, they didn’t have to deal with Raiden and Rose’s whining for hours.
>they didn’t have to deal with Raiden and Rose’s whining for hours.
It was hammy, but there was nothing wrong with it.
>this is what zoomers will actually claim
It was much worse than hammy. Please feel free to recite which of their conversations were good and we can tally that against the rest.
Why do you assume that I’m a zoomer because I don’t think MGS2 is shit?
If you like youtube so much, then you should probably just go the fuck back there. There isn't even an hours worth of Raiden and Rose conversations to begin with. Only three or four of those are berating Raiden about something and most of them are actually just benign conversations about love or whatever. The good ones come at the end in Arsenal Gear and the one about the Patriots.
Also, if you consider Rose to be "whiny", then you obviously played the shitty English dub instead of the original. She is written to be endearing and cute, even when she is telling off Raiden.
I actually think Rose' constant prodding and support of Raiden is cute. She genuinely wants him to come home safe and thinks he's cool. She wants to know more about him. You can tell how bad it hurt her to lie to him. Too many support characters nowadays are sarcastic jerkoffs so it was nice to replay and see that.
>they didn’t have to deal with Raiden and Rose’s whining for hours
what was wrong with their conversaitons?
>theyre cringe
personal problem
>theres too much and it interrupts the gameplay
it only happens a couple times and total to like maybe 4 minutes of talking
>im an incel
yup
MGS2 was my introduction to the series. I played the fuck out of it when I was a kid. I've played through all three of the first games many, many times over the years and 2 is genuinely my favorite. It's definitely not just zoomers who like MGS2.
Man I played the VR missions from substance so much...zako survival. also snake vs monkey for mgs3.
They're all good, every other game after these 3 are middling to straight up bad
1 is my favorite game of all time
3 is the best MGS game of all time
Twin Snakes is Otacon's retelling of MGS1 to his friends
>And then Snake did a backflip and kicked the Just like one of my animes!
Otacon has friends?
camo
Do people not like camo? I’ll admit it’s awkward and a little annoying that it’s stuck in the menu, but I’d rather have it than not.
What does it add to the game?
Immersion, customization, more upgrades to find, and that part where you sneak in the lab.
Alright
What value does it add to the game?
More customization to your playthrough. I think it was a clumsy implementation though unlike the other anon. MGS4 went too far in the other direction and MGSV just about nailed the middle ground of making it easier to stick with the camo you choose while giving you the option to switch it up if the situation calls for it.
It gives me the happy feeling when I put the clothes on and the numbers go up and I am rewarded for looking through a place thoroughly and I put on the silly Raiden mask for a serious cutscene
okay zoomer
Can we stop with the stupid zoomer shit? Zoomers don’t play Metal Gear.
zoomers like MG survive
Adds value to exploration by giving you camos to find, gives you more customization over how snake looks and most importantly, gives another incentive for players to non-lethal kill bosses by giving you their special camo if you do so. The boss camos in of themselves are enough to warrant the existence of camo in MGS3. The bee suit is pure fucking fun. Also you can easily further the games challenge by purposely using dogshit camo to fuck up your index, the game encourages you to play like this with the tuxedo suit unlock after you finish the game once.
It sucked. MGS4 as god awful as it is had an excellent fix to it.
Can be ignored entirely. I have beaten the game naked in EE.
I like 2 the most. 3 is a close second but the whole pausing the gameplay to click through menus to treat your wounds bullshit is stupid. I also think the details in 2 were a tiny bit more subtle and clever. The story also ran circles around 3's.
Oh yeah, almost forgot: If you're saying you love 3 the most but you played the original and not Substinence, your opinion is instantly worthless.
Why? I enjoyed the original back then. I also played the collection version and the 3DS version.
There is a glaring difference between the original and the collection version, and I assume the same is true for the 3DS version. The original release had fixed camera angles that worked for MGS2 but it totally blew for 3 and made the game a nightmare. I'm sure that at this point moving the camera is so natural that you might have forgotten this. Not trying to shit on you and say it's rose tinted glassed etc etc, but you probably glossed over this because you were younger when you played it and didn't mind it.
cont
So to clear up, here's how I'd personally order them:
2 > 3 Substinence > 1 > 3 original
I compensated for what I couldn’t see with first person mode. I played 2 the same way, so it wasn’t strange back then. More games than not had programmed cameras rather than free cameras back then.
Yes, I know that feel. I just think it simply doesn't work for 3 whereas it did for 2, for a few good reasons. But I mean fuck it right, it's just my preference, I love all of these games, I'd love 3 even if the cameras were never updated. Not even worth debating over which game is more exquisite than the other.
3 sucks and I am tired of gays pretending its the best
>lame ass bosses except The Boss
>Menu surfing out the ass
>Forest stealth is objectively shit compared to fixed locations like shadow moses and big shell
>fucked up the story
>lame ass bosses except The Boss
The Fury is kino
3 is overrated for sure. I liked the bosses and the jungle stealth. The weak point for me are the story and the menu surfing gameplay. For my money, what it is is a genius but very imperfect game. Definitely easy to love but I would never call it the best of the best.
Forest stealth is literally the best thing about MGS3, I wish more games had camo systems
1 = 2 > 3
There is no debate
It's 2
>It's 2
minus 5
-3?
>-3
>denoting prior to
>MGS 3 us a prequal
it works
I wish there was a game clever enough to do this.
all good and the only MGS games worth playing. VR missions can stay too.
Easily the first game.
these are the same as sony games
MG2 is when gaming peaked
picrel is better than all the numbered entries
2>3>Revengance>5>1>4>PW
Only 1 is good, 2 and 3 are there to shit on the fans
1 = 3 >>>>>> dogshit > 2
Absolute trash games, MGS wasn't good until 4 and even then it was still shit but at least it was playable, the only actually good Metal Gear games are the 2D ones
3 has the best story but I really don't like playing it as much as I do 2 and 1.
god that mgs2 cover art is top tier
Release order
The games got worse
3
2 is amazing with the aesthetics and the concept
All the way from the second part until the end gave me chills
3 in comparison felt like a slog
There's no debate. 2 improved 1's gameplay in every way while 3 is a menu simulator. 2 > 1 > 3
PO >> PW
Anyone who argues different didn't play PO. PW actually sucks quite a bit.
