If I was an indie game developer I would post threads about my game on the every single fricking day like so many before and become a billionaire.
      >shill threads on Ganker

      >twitch catches on

I suggest you take a look on steam and see how many games there actually are on steam that no one played

        Those games are trash.

i feel sympathy for you unless you were making an earbound inspired quirky pixel art indie adventure

Isn't this why most of of the good ones start off with kickstarters ? I don't think many serious game devs do what the dude who created cave story did.

  6. 2 years ago

Not wrong, but maybe they're also aware of how shitty and cheap it is and don't bother spending the rest of their budget on marketing. The good ones usually gets coverage and highlighted regularly.

only if you make something mediocre or uninspired. indie doesnt have to mean sidescroller jumpnrun ouzzle

Just make a game with a big tiddy protagonist anon.

I'm not even joking. Look at the success Haydee and Dead Estate had. No one would have heard of them otherwise.

This. Just exploit human weaknesses if you're devving for money rather than for an idea

This. Just exploit human weaknesses if you're devving for money rather than for an idea

nah, exploiting coomers is already failing
turns out that when too many people get the same idea even coomers start to get picky

I'm a coomer and there is a huge shortage of horny games right now, so you're wrong. Please make one anon I beg you.

truth is that one person alone can make something resembling a flash game
maybe a bit more advanced, but not much
i played hundreds of those for free when flash was a thing, now you shmucks want me to pay for them when im tired of them anyway

another hard truth is that even indie games are extremally formulaic for the most part

I really love the games Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Deus Ex, they are some of my favorite games. I would love to play an indie game that is similar to them. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I'm not a Deus Ex fan but the most of anons constantly shilling that Peripeteia game made by some anon from here. I haven't played it so I can't tell how much it looks like Deus Ex

Just make a nothingburger game, but you play as a cat. twitter and reddit won't shut the frick up about it then.

im not interested in games made solely for profit so i dont see a problem with this. Make it because you want to, not because you want to not have a job.

      Anonymous

Most devs ideally want to do both. Your first indie games should be for profit, once you've got a steady income you can produce whatever you like.

Time commitment to make games is ridiculous, it's hard to do within a 9 to 5 job.

        >it's hard to do within a 9 to 5 job
Nobody forces anyone to make games

Some people want to make games but don't have time to. Almost every indie game was made by someone who was either unemployed or employed in an indie studio or took a year out of work off kickstarter money.

            >Some people want to make games but don't have time to.
If they actually want to they would dedicate some freetime, like half an hour per day, for devving in their 9/5 schedule

Friend of mine made a porn game and within the first month of early access he made over $10K, and over the first year made over $60K.

I mean that's not blockbuster tier but certainly decent, he only did 3 months of work before releasing on EA

The best marketing is good art
noone cares about the game if they arent attracted when looking at the gameplay

      >The best marketing is good art

This, most people are going to give the cover/promo art a 3 second glance and make up their mind to look into the game or not.

      >The best marketing is good art
If only that worked for picrel. It took a decade to make and sold like shit. I did actually buy it for the art though. It's aight.
