I must've played through the first game at least 5 times across the Vita and PS4 versions and got the platinum on both systems, it's one of my favourite games of all time.
I was genuinely excited for 2's release, and I haven't finished it once, I found it very boring. Not even Kat's nipples could keep me around.

GR2 was full of soul like the little details you could discover all over the world and little interactions with the npc's. graphics and animations and combat were improved as well but the game was just boring unfortunately. I fucking love the world, the vertical world design, the art style, the setting, the characters, the Kohei Tanaka composed soundtrack (please go watch Gunbuster and Diebuster if you haven't), the gameplay, the complete freedom of movement, the focus on satisfying movement in general, I fucking love these games so much but man.

Love this series so much. In retrospect we got really lucky to get a sequel. I prefer 1 but 2 really expanded on the world and mechanics. Wish we could've gotten a third.

Kurosawa Mode and minimal HUD made the quiet moments between the standard third person combat/stealth very relaxing & immersive, and the combat was polished and tactile, story was good too.

The controls weren't even that good, the combat was a bunch of gravity kick spam, and outside the combat were boring cutscenes and boring mini-game missions.
GR2 just felt like an upgrade in every way except maybe the story. The combat had more variation with the heavy/light styles, grounded combat and shooting objects had better controls, and the world was a lot livelier because it was on a console instead of a handheld. Moon jumping was so much fun and I loved the camera features with the different emotes and missions you could do.
I would've thought people who loved GR1 would still enjoy GR2 enough as a sequel, but it seems people would rather play the first one more. I guess it's a "soul" thing, I'm not sure.
