The Legend of Twin Peaks

Tender reminder that Mark Frost confirmed that he reunited with Nintendo staff and gave them ideas for the development of Link's Awakening.
The owls. They are not what they seem, boy.

Did Frost also work on the X-Files? From what I’ve read, Twin Peaks was supposed to go in a similar direction to what the X-Files would eventually become before Lynch sperged out and left the show.

Lynch's basic idea is that they would never reveal who killed Laura Palmer, and mysteries would just build upon mysteries.

Lynch didn't sperg out, the show was being fucked by producers.

Tried watching Twin Peaks a few years back. Don’t get what all the fuss was about. Got so messy and tryhard midway through season 2 I just gave up.

You’re supposed to stop watching after they “catch” the “killer.”

And miss the build up to the greatest TV finale in media history? I know the bulk of season 2 is dogshit but the ending is spectacular and makes the rest competent worth it.

Season 2 was a joke. I think they forced Lynch to continue with the show against his wishes, so he just fucked around. Sent the log lady back to highschool. Etc. It's sort of funny knowing it was just a troll but still, I didn't bother finishing it. It's not for everybody. If you didn't like season one, meh. Oh well.

Season 1 was alright if I’m honest. I was kinda enjoying seeing things unfold but then season 2 started steering away from it and getting so stupid I just switched off.
If it’s the general consensus is that season 2 is a deviation and it gets back on track in season 3 I may try again from there.
I heard quite a few devs say they take inspiration from the show I’d like to understand where that comes from

Season 2 had different directors trying to mimmick Lynch and failing. But it's still entertaining and not that long. Lynch comes back for the last 2 episode finale and delivers Kino.

Season 3 was made in 2017 so I doubt many developers took inspiration from it.

No, they forced Lynch to reveal the killer, so Lynch directed a handful of episodes of season 2, to wrap up his involvement, but basically just fucked off, because that wasn't the show he wanted to make.

It wasn't log lady, it was Nadine that went back to school after waking from a coma after her suicide attempt, believing she is high school age. Also with superhuman strength for some reason.

Actual reaction from American test audiance kids in the 90's upon seeing this cover:

      >Who are all those happy cartoony people? This looks so stupid and kiddy, I don't want games aimed at 7 years old you know I'm actually 8 and a half!

Possibly american children would have preferred something more similar to the Contra or Castlevania covers, a muscular man wielding a sword against monsters in a gritty realistic style. Not bad, I love those over-the-top covers as well.
I think the plain golden boxarts of the Zelda games in the west was not part of focus groups and a decision made by Nintendo themselves. It makes the game look "premium", like they don't even need to show any character on the box, just the logo on a golden background. Honestly, I think it's effective too.
Funnily enough, it was a similar case for the Mother series, in Japan all 3 games have a plain box art with just the logo of the game in golden letters on a red/crimson background, while in USA Earthbound got a cover with a character enemy from the game.

    >noo but twin peaks and mark frost is off topic!
not when Mark Frost himself confirmed he basically helped Nintendo staff with ideas for the game, and the LA developers explicitly saying they were majorly influenced by Twin Peaks.

I feel like sometimes people care too much about "consensus". Like, before they even watch a show or a movie, they will read what the consensus is online, and then based on that they form an opinion, instead of watching it for themselves.
Season 2 of TP is like what, 18 episodes?
I bet many of you will put up with shitty shows that are hundreds of episodes long, but then complain about watching 18 episodes because "the internet told me it's bad".
Season 2 has a lot of questionable stuff but also some enjoyable stuff and also a great finale. If you liked season 1, you're missing out by not watching it.
