Finally, a based take. JRPGs fail at every level. There's not enough gameplay to be good games, and their stories are C-tier pulp novels at BEST. And what's even worse is you can read a classic novel in a few hours, JRPGs take dozens if not hundreds to complete. All for some generic slopfest about an angsty teenager fighting against the "evil" church and it's "evil" god. JRPGs are the worst genre in gaming and nobody can convince me otherwise.
I've played a ton of JRPGs since the NES days and I've never once played one that involved fighting the church and defeating God. Only ones like that are, idk, Persona? I think Breath of Fire 2 as well. JRPG stories being angsty atheist slop is a meme.
>There's not enough gameplay to be good games
Stopped reading there. If you're playing JRPGs for the story you're an idiot. They're all about stats and builds!! Keep your healing up, analyze elemental weaknesses. I would cast scan and write down the enemy HP and then subtract the damage I did each time on paper. Just because you don't enjoy the gameplay doesn't mean it isn't there. You just don't enjoy unit management and commanding a small unit in the field. You'd rather be the one fighting than directing
For FFVI sure but many other JRPGs have much substance to discuss. If you're only playing FFVI and Chrono Trigger you're just scratching the surface. Even FFVI has some interesting setups like Wind God Gau, but generally the game is too easy
>if you're playing a JRPG for the story you're an idiot
What's ironic is that according to the Japanese, and the editors on wikipedia, JRPG's are all about story, and they criticized WRPG's in the past for not having enough story.
So, you're basically admitting that the primary facet of JRPG's is trash.
No. Nobody used to say that it was exclusively JRPGs that are all about the story. People used to say RPGs in general (J or not) were about the story, and this made sense when literally no other game on Earth had any story to speak of. Even then, RPGs were really about their gameplay, and the stories were just a nice extra. There are RPGs with fun gameplay and garbage story like Final Fantasy V.
>Replayed IV and VI last year. IV was better. Yeah, I said it.
I like 4 a lot too. I think it feels more like an adventure with your friends where 6 felt like just random shit is just happening to you and your acquaintances.
Fuck it, anon. I CHOOSE YOU! This is my last post on this board. You children know nothing about video games. I go into all these threads an post nothing but GEMS and they just get ignored because they aren't in alignment with Google's narrative (yes YT belongs to Google, you have fallen to corporate propaganda in the name of video game 'scholarship'). Fuck you and your fat white gamer YouTubers, you'll never be a kid in the 80s and 90s playing real gems without internet. have a nice day /vr/.

Hispanic is angry we don't like the same games that were available in his local bargain bin in the 90s.
>Final Sloppery
*hides thread*
All jrpgs are slop

Breath of Fire II
Based.
Spotted the Christian gamer. You had to hide from your mother to play video games didn't you?

I wonder why the story is all people talk about in these games

Sorry zoomers, you had to be there.
The moment JRPGs lost any pretense of being videogames and just turned into anime VNs with QTE combat minigames
Someone never played Phantasy Star IV. Sad.
Tactics was better, Suikoden II was better. But yeah FFVI was great
I just realized now that's a Mog holding a dagger, it always looked like it was balancing/pogoing off of it before when I never looked closely at it.
You and me both anon. Retards confirmed
Replayed IV and VI last year. IV was better. Yeah, I said it.

i was there and even have the map. its a good game but not even a top 5 sfc rpg.
OP here, I uploaded the wrong picture, my bad

You sound cranky. Maybe a playthrough of FFVI might cheer you up. 🙂
>play RPGs as a kid
>come online and post about them
>YOUR PAST DIDNT EXIST BECAUSE YOU DIDNT LIKE THE GAMES I LIKED
impressive schizopost

Phantasy Star IV cost like $129 in 1995 dollars. Bargain bin my ass.
welcome to the real world old man. i will play uncharted waters in the corner.
jarpigs peaked a while earlier with saga2, though
Breath of Fire was better in almost every way
FF6's story doesn't really say anything, the music is below average by FF standards, and the gameplay is textbook JRPG redundancy
It'd no Tecmo Secret of the Stars but then what is?
