Dark Matter and Dark Matter Swordsman alongside introducing the animal buddies really implies otherwise to me, even with Dream Land 3 doing all the same thing but better.

That game at least had the Ghost copy ability going for it, hell Nightmare in Dreamland is more forgettable than this game is since its just a remake with graphical changes.

When this game came out they were hyping the return of mixed abilities, hearkening back to Kirby 64. What we got was a small handful of limited boring mixtures like SWORD WITH FIRE, SWORD WITH ICE, SWORD WITH ELECTRICITY, and every other combination that they didn't account for would just give you a random shuffled mundane ability.
Kirby 64 chads... Maybe one day...

Then star allies did the same but more fleshed out which somehow made the game feel worse by how cumbersome it was to use sometimes

I liked it a lot. Sure it didn't have a million combinations, but it had the important combinations and it meant you still got a plethora of single abilities. Some of the levels are cool. And I really love the unlockables, more kirby games should work that way.
I hate how modern kirby just gives you puzzle pieces and calls it a day. You're supposed to collect collectibles but they don't do shit. Waddle dee town is a step in the right direction but they could do so much better.

I honestly thought return to dreamland was way more forgettable. Squeak Squad at least had some interesting level designs (comparatively I mean) and more unique types of abilities. I don't think anyone is gonna say a Kirby game is perfect until we get ability combining on the level of Crystal Shards with the level variety of Super Star.

We would also need the levels to be 2.5d like 64

Honestly after playing Forgotten land I'm convinced 3D can totally work. I enjoyed that game a lot and trying to 100% it actually made me struggle a bit. I remember going through that ice bridge level at least 10 times trying to find that one secret that ended up being at the very beginning of the level.

I loved Forgotten Land, and I hope they continue to make 3D games for a while. I’ve had my fill of 2D Kirby for a bit. But if they are going to make the perfect 2D Kirby, it needs to be 2.5D. It adds so much to the atmosphere and charm of the levels. That was actually one of the great things about FL. Level aesthetics were amazing and felt like believable places you were exploring. Only 64 had accomplished that prior, and they should have been striving for it since then

RTDL is a lot more popular as it's the game that actually brought Kirby back to relevancy alongside Epic Yarn (which was a one off experimental thing for the series). So it's a no brainer to remake it over AM.

Why wouldn't people be upset? It went from being a charming RPG with simple mechanics to a really clunky platformer. Which is really weird for anything with Mario in it. When they tried to go back to it they just kept trying to shake up the formula even more making the game worse and worse. We can't even say "at least we have the Mario and Luigi games" anymore.

ironically right, but not because of the gameplay, which is what you idiots were thinking of.
It's because IS went absolutely crazy with the plot and the characters and tone for this one, turning it into a setting a bit more akin to a JRPG - or even a fantasy OVA - with a few Mario characters sprinkled in. That - and the slight dip in sales - freaked out the suits enough that they implemented the 'mario mandate' to keep things on track, which unfortunately went too far in the other direction and prevented the developers of sticker star and onwards from using any creativity whatsoever.

                >That - and the slight dip in sales
I thought SPM sold great, which was ironically part of the problem. With the massive "casual" adoption rate of the Wii, any Mario game would sell gangbusters, and beyond that, Super Paper Mario was the FIRST Mario game to release on the Wii and since it wasn't the pure platformer 75-80% of the audience was expecting, the reception of it tanked.
Which is why I don't believe the "Mario Mandate" is real as a whole, but Paper Mario has personally been put in this weird "OC unallowance" state ever since much to its detriment.

                >but Paper Mario has personally been put in this weird "OC unallowance" state ever since much to its detriment.
like I said the main factor is concern over the brand's 'image.' Imagine if a casual's first mario game is Super Paper Mario. That would leave him with perceptions of what a mario game 'is' that run contrary to what nintendo wants. Shit like the Count Bleck/Tippi plotline, Dimentio, Even stuff as simple as visiting heaven and hell in chapter 7 are all pretty out of left field.

Air Ride is such a blast to fuck around and play. It kind of sucks going into a 7 minute City Trial and coming out of it with a kickass build only to get Target Practice or some dumb shit like that, but on the whole it's a great.

You can raise the CPU levels to Max and in certain events like Kirby Melee or KO fest the CPU is relentless and will always wipe the floor with you.

the ai is literally incapable of winning in kirby melee 2 unless you do nothing. They never leave the very bottom of the map and only suck up 1-3 enemies during the runtime.

I liked the concept of Air ride but something about it always seemed off balance wise. I remember getting absolutely smoked by that one fucking thing that looks like a square box or something. Or maybe I'm mixing it up with some other thing but it didn't move in a traditional manner. City Trial was awesome as fuck and I'm glad it made a come back in the form of smash run.

oh, that might be it I used to play a lot of DS games, I had a flashcart at the time a expensive slot-2 G6 which required a slot-1 passthrough card, this was before all the cheap R4 cards, anyway I used to play a lot of DS games and didn't really care about region as long as it was in English so I probably had the eurofag version, played through it once and forgot all about it until now.
