Literally everything promised about this game is perfect. And the guy funding it is some dude that got super rich off some other shit and just wants to make the best MMO possible now, so there's no chance of it dying from "muh lack of donations".
Are you hyped? Do you think it will fail for some reason?

>only promises
>no content
it will fail when it comes out in 2050
it's not only promises. What are you talking about?
here is gameplay
the most recent dev update video is from 6 days ago
anon that looks unfinished as frick
it is literally unfinished. Have you not been following the development progress?
>looks like the third time a noname MMO get something
I was starting to get worried after every other game that looked like Dreamworld.
Hmm gonna say my 780ti isn't gonna cut it lol.
minimum requirement is GTX 460
Ok it should be np.
It would have been cool if it was released 15 years ago. MMOs are trash in their entirety.
just looks like a modern update of dark age of camelot. Literally a nothingburger
>Everyone riding around on autistic assorted creature mounts in blandlooking castle environment
Ah yes, another generic fricking MMO how delightful
>woman speaks
I'm out.
All those mounts are so stupid. It looks like an escaped zoo.
>shit mounts and the game hasn't even come out
mmo cosmetics are so fricking shit
why can't they just establish a good, competent aesthetic and only add cosmetics that adhere to the aesthetic?
games are fricking shit when everyone tries to look like a unique snowflake, garishly drowning in particle effects while covered in light up armor and glowy weapons
Yeah the AoC team really doesn't understand the appeal of mounts at all. They are copying retail WoW's massive amount of crazy mounts from the get-go, but don't understand that WoW once started with a very humble selection of mounts which were thematic to the player's starting race. Then every special mount they added to the game became a big deal and made the people who got it stand out a lot. The more mounts were added into the game, the less special it became to have a different kind of mount. AoC is starting at the point where retail WoW got to after over a decade of adding new mounts to, which is just extremely unappealing to me.
>oh no the mounts!
state of current mmogays.
lmao looks like dogshit. and the latest "dev update" is just some fricking art assets. get scammed you drooling moron.
>shitty western aesthetic movie game
pathetic
This and Star Citizen are the biggest scams of the MMO world, and they're succeeding...
Ganker why haven't we made our own crowdfunded mmo, is it because we are many, but dumb?
scam citizen is stealing tens of millions of dollars from idiot donors.
ashes of creation founder has put $30,000,000 dollars into the game so far and expects to put more, the kickstarter only raised 3 million
We aren't dumb, we like to cooooooom
2 years ago /v had 2 god tier "retired" and active drawfrens
If Ganker ever made an MMO, it would Ed, Edd, and Eddy Online. Unfortunately we do not own the rights
i remember they tried to cash in on the battle royale hype and created their own lmao. This game just reeks like the founder looked at star citizen, saw how its bank rolling hundreds of millions and never have to ship a finished product and decided to do the same in the mmorpg genre.
I will give AOC some credit, no way near the amount of future creep like star citizen.
>castle sieges
When has this ever actually been fun?
Eso pvp
Bitch
Actual sieges are the worst part of ESO RvR.
>Eso pvp
Is a steaming pile of goatshit.
>Eso pvp
the pvp is the worst part about that game
Mount and Blade. They should make a M&B MMO
Lineage 2, newhomosexual.
Those were not fun, everything about Lineage 2 was the antithesis of fun.
>t. carebear
L2 was literally peak mmo both pve and pvp, go back to wow homosexual nobody likes you anyway
Any NA private servers?
IIRC retail servers are shut down and NCSoft fricked up all the non-Korean versions of the game anyway, as par the course of Asians seeing their non-home country fans as subhumans to lazily mine some extra resources.
Ragnarok Online
gw2 wvw before they ruined it
wvw was always a zergfest
DAoC you absolute zoomer homosexual.
conqueror's blade
unfortunately the rest of the game sucks dick
Literally the most fun aspect of mmos, pvetroony.
Runescape.
M&B but just because it's a shitfest
>When has this ever actually been fun?
never
it's always a huge red flag because that means devs are incompetent nigs.
mmorpg players have the lowest IQ of any gamer group
Simultaneous characters and a persistent world make MMO the best genre.
That would be shooters. The autistic zoomer homosexuals in those games deserve cancer.
>mmo perfect
mmogays just need to accept the genre is destine just to be mediocre garbage to the end of time.
Just make a sandbox with fun professions and dynamic gameplay.
VR is the future of MMO where how fun the cities are and how good the character customization is matters more than gameplay
VR is simply a personal 3D monitor.
Gameplay is the defining line of lasting gameplay.
Wrong, VR is a new interface too. For example the movement and tracking matters. Creating fun movement inputs and interfaces opens up. Like grabbing a nade from your belt instead of pressing a.
The activity input means something like tossing a projectile is a skill itself.
>Creating fun movement inputs
so when are we getting that in VR, Zuck
Try echo VR or nock
This. People will only care about MMOs again when they will be able to replicate the sense of wonder of creating a new identity to roleplay in a detailed world, something you cannot do with social media tying so much into your real life today. If SAO were made this year it would be a massive success just like in the anime/novel. Gameplay never mattered for this genre because they always were glorified chatrooms with macros carrying you, anyone saying otherwise is a braindead moron who doesn't play videogames.
MMO is a dead genre, this game will explode in popularity for one week then be almost dead afterwards like all MMOs.
People stop playing theme parks because there's nothing to do when the character has OK equipment. Economy is defined by risk:reward.
There is a reason that the only two MMOs that remain popular after FOTM wears off are old as shit.
It's because they're being kept alive by droves of 25-40 year olds on IV drips of copium.
There will never be a sustained successful new MMORPG again. Ever.
>There will never be a sustained successful new MMORPG again. Ever.
This. I can't wait to see Riot pour millions into its shitty MMO for it to fall flat on its face a month from release. If it ever releases.
This. MMOs were in the right place, in the right time.
1) computers and internet was in >100IQ people
2) there weren't social networks or they were not that popular
3) there weren't that many minmaxers, dataminers and atmosphere of optimising fun out of a game
4) internet had more freedom and games, even WoW, had some level of freedom of speech
Because all of this MMOs were like a frontier, when in real life there wasn't any frontier for middle class. For me, as 14 y.o. nerd with depression WoW was like a drug, that I never forget.
I had my fun with WoW classic, and even would played it again, if servers had more people in leveling without minmaxing shit. But I will never invest so much time as 15 years ago.
ESO is making more money than Skyrim
well yeah, Skyrim is a one-time purchase despite what Todd would have you believe, and ESO is a F2P MMO with extreme MTX israeliteery
My point is MMOs aren't dead. There is still much money to be made for a newcomer
>For me, as 14 y.o. nerd with depression WoW was like a drug, that I never forget.
>I had my fun with WoW classic, and even would played it again, if servers had more people in leveling without minmaxing shit.
same here
Classic was probably the most fun I had with a video game in the last 10 years, but only because I was leveling with 3 rl friends
the moment we hit endgame and had to group up with other players to do raids the fun was gone and it was just as shit as retail wow
This is exactly what ive been telling anyone who will listen. Mmos will never have another golden age like in the beginning. The best they can hope for is what EVE is doing.
One thing I will add is this: the type of people that internet communities appeal to has changed from MMO holden age to now. Back then, it was as you said, they were socially awkward nerdy asian and white dudes who thought computers and video games were more interesting than socializing.
With gaming and computers becoming more accesible and affordable, the pool of people using them has widened, and the "social reject/outcast" group has changed to be unironic trannies, degens, and smooth brains.
Most recent MMOs didn't advertise, but New World and Lost Ark losing most of their players after a month or few suggests players want variety and depth.
I have not played Ashes of Creation but I did play New World including current alpha. I can tell that New World has no future. It's a very shallow themepark which has very little content for any kind of player. There is a good reason it does not have sub fee - there is not enough content to keep players paying that subscription for long time and even players themselves will not be able to produce enough content for others (there is not even open world PvP with forced PvP flagging in specific zones, like on most populated WoW Classic servers and you can't attract many roleplayers with just single boring human race).
>MMO
Anon, MMOs are dead.
Also
>muhh promises
c'mon bruh
It's only dead because all the current MMOs suck, and no one wants to invest hundreds of millions of dollars on making a new one that's good
No, it's dead because it was a type of game that only worked well at that specific point in time when the internet hadn't full consumed the lives of everyone. The novelty of MMO has worn off an all that's left is a relentless grind nobody wants to bother with. You would need to entirely recreate the basic core of the genre to actually be successful and at that point it's just a different game
Vaporware, unexperienced dev team with some figure heads from more than a decade ago, years of alpha, $500 buy-in cult and more! What a great game, I expect it to absolutely deliver on its promises and have a healthy outlook for its future.
>Vaporware
people have already played it
>unexperienced dev team with some figure heads from more than a decade ago
you mean back when games were good?
>years of alpha
the alpha started in 2020
>$500 buy-in cult
it's 15 bucks a month, there is no box cost
some figureheads from 20 years ago that developed that one old game you like don't guarantee a good game and often mean the exact opposite
I just want another world to get lost in, because IRL is extremely gay
>read
>exercise
>create something
this is all you need and you will never want to play videogames again
I read 3 books last week and since the 29th I've been playing Xenoblade 3 non stop
OK but hear me out
I want to play an MMO where I get to frick men pretending to be women, but like, for real. Not just ERP and not in real life.
Until that MMO comes out I'll keep playing secondlife and vrchat
>MMO
Make COOP RPGs, for the love of god stop making MMOs
>make massive world
>everyone only interacts in parties within dungeons
>world is completely empty of players
Just cut the fat and make a game where you make groups to do dungeons, you wont need to do tab combat because the game will not have 100+ players per session to account for, so you can do some interesting gameplay.
only interacts in parties within dungeons
is completely empty of players
read the OP image, most conflict will be node based.
I am sure it won't be ignored by everyone after the first 3 months like in every mmo.
>Ganker is upset that they have an open an honest development process with constant video updates
I appreciate him making it come to fruition, and I hope it does blossom one day, but he needs to get a financial or business manager so he doesn't run out of funds before it's released. As development time gets longer, so does the cost, which might lead to bankruptcy before it was even released (in the ideal form, ofcourse he could just release it in a half assed form and call it a day).
Which race are you going to main Ganker?
God, western games fricking suck with CC, when will they fricking catch up??
Show me a better character creator than that
Any Korean MMO for starters
Link one that has half the features shown in this video
Black Desert
asiatic mmos are fricking horrible kys
I want to be a disgusting groveling big nosed goblin merchant just like I am in real life.
Bald gang will be the facepunch of eve online. This game will fail. Eceleb streamers will have thousands of Simpson doing their eceleb overlords wishes while the non twitch normies will be greatly outnumbered. I'll bet my left pinky finger that any big eceleb clan will make rotations of pk so they can consistently do 100 man pk gangs while the previous 100 man pk gang "fixes their corruption". Ecelebs will kill this game if it ever releases.
This is a new genre of game. Star citizen genre
Hype
Tech demos using latest graphics
Endless promises of somehow making 10x content of every other game
The new best practice is 2-5 day expensive betas for streamers
I saw a development status video about this game and literally the only thing they talked about was the graphics as they walked through a linear path.
Star citizen proved this
A tech demo in a engine with only client side authorization made hundreds of millions of dollars off morons
These are the morons buying lotto tickets and gamespot shares at 300 dollar in this thread talking mechanics and design
Yep. I am a big fan of the old Freelancer game and first hearing about scam citizen I was interested but did not pay into it. I'm very glad I never did as it has been for a decade or so now that they do the whole "Wow look at this X thing guys!". And won't even try to fix what is broken by doing more "We just released REALISTIC FABRIC PHYSICS!". endless polishing of a turd instead of making the turd a piece of gold and then polishing the gold.
>Literally everything promised about this game is perfect
>the combat is shit
>the majority of game time is spend on combat
they're seriously focusing on improving the combat experience after they got feedback during the alpha test.
>action combat that requires low ping
>muh graphix but also huge epic battles to melt your PC
>three hotbars of skills in a PvP focused game
>gathering, crafting and a player-driven economy but no gear loss on death
Just another MMO that tries to be friends with everyone.
>action combat that requires low ping
yes, just like WoW, which arguably has the best combat of any MMO
>muh graphix but also huge epic battles to melt your PC
they're doing crazy optimizations to make sure it runs well https://youtu.be/BNRD57wHtAE?t=51m20s
>gathering, crafting and a player-driven economy but no gear loss on death
player killers do drop gear, but the main point of loss is the node system. You can lose your whole freakin' city you built up
>just like WoW, which arguably has the best combat of any MMO
>just like WoW, which arguably has the best combat of any MMO
Anon...
its too ambitious for the size of the team. manpower wise it is literally impossible for them to achieve what they promised. they should have just gone all the way with their Guild Wars 1 inspiration and made a Guild Wars 1 clone. there is a massive hole in the market for cooperative RPGs and they could fill that niche very well. instead they will fail because they are spreading themselves too thin
Given how player-driven the game is, similar to Eve Online, it might actually be possible. You don't need a huge team to create vasts amount of content when the players make that content themselves
>You don't need a huge team to create vasts amount of content when the players make that content themselves
I mean look at New World. There's still like 20000 players hanging around for the wars.
>release date 2027
It looks interesting, but it is also still in alpha and looks as though it has a few more years of development until we get a release.
> the guy funding it is some dude that got super rich off some other shit and just wants to make the best MMO possible now,
This part sounds promising. MMO genre is bogged down heavily by corporate types trying to leverage the least amount of development to extract the most SaaS payments from the playerbase.
>no blacks
Is this true? I want to play as an exotic black man who lives in the desert. I'm an attractive white male already so I don't need to overcompensate by playing as a boring white male
The features can exist, but balancing them in a way that leads to fun and meaningful gameplay scenarios is nigh impossible. Everything will be based on creative cheese strategies or variables outside of your control. For example, sieges will be so rare that nobody will even know any detailed strategy, the side that randomly stumbles upon the solution wins. A realistic development schedule would be 2 years for features, 5 years for balancing.
Also, the gameplay looks very janky, it will never be as good as in Naraka Bladepoint, so what's the point?
unless the features like siege are time limited, it's never going to be fun for the average player because the autistic neets will grind all day long, capture the entire map at night and piss in a bottle to camp the fort 24/7 to make sure normies don't stand a chance of ever taking them back.
That has been solved already in other games, there are auctions system to determine who attacks who and shit like that, generally it's a once a week event so people have time to prepare.
aside from the fact that this will probably never release it would be datamined and minmaxxed on day one of the release, people will bum rush through all the content in 7 days and leave
this is the fate of all modern mmos, the genre is dead, MMOs only worked in the early days of widespread internet use aka 2000-2010
see
eve online is a niche game, thats not really a great outlook
believe me I would love to bring back the mmo genre, its my favourite. I played easily over 10k hours of DAoC, GW, WoW and LotRO, but its over. MMOs dont work in a world of datamining, social media, e sports and twitch
yeah no one wants to play spreadsheet simulator.
i see ashes as a sort of spiritual successor to ultima online
Data mining is seriously overrated as a source of info, there’s a lot you can find with it but a lot you can’t
maybe data mining is the wrong word for it but compare 2006 WoW with 2022 for example
In 2006 people would have gone into a raid or dungeon without any clue, everything was a surprise and you had to work out strats on the spot, maybe you had some experienced guy in the group who can take the lead
In 2022 everybody has already seen the entire raid before it even launches, even the biggest noob has read the meta strategy written by some pro guild and has 20 addons that tell you what buttons to press
I'm honestly suprised devs haven't fricked around by adding server specific random attacks to raid bosses that rotate around so the players can't use shit like DBM
Same goes for gathering herbs/ore/etc.
Randomness is the only thing that can actually save MMOs from being "solved".
The only way to survive the data mine hogs is to have every dungeon be 100% random, like down to the mobs and all of their skills and at that point the majority of mmo players will shit their pants with rage and quit because it beat them up.
i still haven't seen a single real gameplay, yet i already saw like 20 different cosmetic sets to buy
can i be a sissy healbawd on this?
if no why should i give a frick about it
Based on the current class design scheme, you'd double down on cleric to be a high priest(ess).
>Summoner + Cleric = Necromancer
>Cleric + Summoner = Shaman
Holy shit this system is cool!
Dev went on record saying a necromancer could only have one summon at a time.
That doesn't look too bad.
>necromancer
I'm in.
I wonder how much more summon power conjuror will have compared to something like beastmaster. I love some pet classes.
I hope you can summom more than 1 minion.
I'm rather curious about that as well. Because of the primary+secondary class system, I'm wondering how the meta will pan out for the more niche support classes like summoner, bard, and ranger.
Leaning towards warlock, conjurer or enchanter.
>I'm wondering how the meta will pan out for the more niche support classes like summoner, bard, and ranger.
there will be 3 meta classes and if you pick anything else you will be destroyed in pvp and nobody will group up with you
I'm betting it'll be the same as every mmo
>need good pvp gear to not instantly die like a b***h because devs just can't balance PvE gear for PvP
>the rogue class will stunlock you 100-0
>the mage class is a glasscanon that can oneshot you from half the map away
>the paladin class is unkillable but does no damage so they only serve in "capture the flag" kind of pvp
>pet classes are literally useless
>every other patch they nerf the fun stuff and accidentally create a new cheese build
>being so mindbroken by Blizzard that every game has to fail like WoW
>fail like WoW
damn you are moronic
They just revealed that wow only has 34k players online playing concurrently .
Warframe has 35k on steam right now
I thought that 34k number was for wow classic only?
then the warlock chad comes in with more hp than most tanks to spam fear and dots before unloading a combo of instant damage spells for the final kill
i would probable go with bard if i can heal with it so i can put my sissy ass on a dancing outfit.
but ok you won me over, i will remember this game and check it out when it comes out.
Hello fellow sissy. We are truly the most intelligent and tasteful people ITT.
Class: Shadow Lord
Race: Empyrean
yup, it's gaming time
Summoner + cleric = necromancer KEK
Clerics being decent necromancers was a DnD thing since forever, it's really not that weird
Class name is Tank. Really homie?
This was the most interesting thing for me. But so far they shown little to none of the class combo system.
It's interesting and I've already stolen it to use for my own devices.
They literally copied most of these class names from Archeage. I love that so much. You can get a sense of the lead developer's history with the genre from this alone.
More like sense of their unoriginality and incompetence.
this is going to be a complete disaster. there is a 0% chance all of these will be fleshed out or balanced
I honestly don't see how the frick you would balance 64 fricking classes either, it would be much easier to go with the GW1 dual class system with 8 distinct classes.
>50+ """unique""" classes thrown together in one big disorganized pile, categorized by Main/Subclass pairings
We've seen how this turns out before.
95% of those classes will be tossed aside, and the 3-5 which are deemed to be meta will rule the roost forever.
Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't been in the MMO sphere for very long.
It's made by a former archeage whale, so of course it resembles it.
Ashes has a gameplay loop, or atleast a plan for it, that aims to have more class combos be useful with it's 3 content spheres.
Basically;
>dungeons/world quest shit
>world pvp quests/sieges
>trading economy/caravans
From the theory, if you tried running a caravan or doing world quest content as a rogue type class, you'll have a lot more difficulty, but they'll excel at killing people who are doing that content.
Seems interesting, but the game won't come out for another 3-4 years so there's no reason to really be excited right now
>summoner is the base class and conjurer is the advanced class
I hate it
If siren or tellsword have music/voice based attacks I will be playing this game.
Wow a gazillion classes I'm sure they're all going to be good and this isn't a fricking moronic idea.
I don't think the amount is the problem as much as some of those names.
>64 classes
Classic DAoC had 33
I don't doubt this game will never release though
Just see that necromancer is mixing cleric with summoner they didnt even get the role mixing correct
Holy shit those class names are so soulless. You can just tell no effort went into fleshing out the setting at all by this alone.
PvE focused MMOs have terrible PvP. Most modern MMOs already treat PvP like a seperate game mode. Good PvP makes for garbage PvE combat and vice versa.
Mobs don't care if something is unfun to play against but players do.
Is AoC a PvP or a PvE game? I'm afraid it's trying to be both. Both sides will hate this game in no time.
Only real gangster ogs played this badboy.
True fantasy live online never released, anon.... or did I finally make it ti the correct timeline???
If that's what you like.
>still falls for the MMO meme
lol, MMOs died when HTML 5 arrived and social media became mainstream. No one wants to play these glorified chatrooms with pointless grind anymore. If they want to grind they play shit like gachas or clicker games.
Well?
Human duh
Py'Rai female beastmaster. It'll be like my mithra bst again.
Imperial because frick sub humans.
Vek Warlock or Spellshield
The Vek seem pretty cool. I just hope they're not total manlets
I wonder what her armpits smell like
they seem pretty civilized so I have no clue
>that flap
HNNNNNG
racials, if any, will be nothing useful and everyone will be covered in cash shop costumes and accessories so height aside it won't even be noticeable
>racials, if any, will be nothing useful
not only will it play a huge role in the gameplay, but there will be certain quests you can literally only do as certain races
https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Races
I'm getting Peter Molyneux vibes from this, where's that frickin YOU CAN DO ANYTHING comic
>dwarves mine 5% faster
>only elves are allowed to take the "gather 5 divine branches" quest that reward green lvl5 boots instead of brown lvl5 boots
I'm sure it'll matter as much as the answers you choose when making a GW2 character.
there are no dwarves or elves in the game, you mindbroken blizzcuck
BRO
I didn't even know about this game, but I can actually read
Orcs and elves
And npc races have trolls, treants, and goblins.
>Characters are able to obtain racial mounts via a quest in that race's starting area.[90][91]
>Weapons and armor are not race locked, but armor will take on a racial appearance.[95][96][97]
>Each race has different base stats.[100][101]
>A player's choice of race will influence their racial augments.[101]
>Stat growth proceeds in the following order:[100]
> The race "seeds" a player's base stats.[100]
> The primary archetype grows the base stats.[100]
>Node layout and style is influenced by the race that contributes the most to that node.[95]
>NPCs will react differently to different character races.[114] Languages will be distinct between NPC races and in the lore.[95]
>Race that contributed the highest percentage to the node's advancement will alter the racial appearance of its buildings, NPCs, and props.
Yeah I can read the wiki too, there's nothing exciting about humans getting horses, dwarves getting goats and elves getting some forest animal as a mount that all have the same speed.
You know damn well they won't dare make the racial stats difference big enough enough to cause any issues.
>In keeping with our theme of Consequence, and unlike other games, race won’t just be a matter of look, with relatively inconsequential abilities tacked on. Instead they integrate deeply into our class system, augmenting and changing the basic chassis provided by our eight core archetypes. Our goal here is to create a system where an elven fighter feels different, but serves the same role as a dwarven fighter.
ok, how are they going to that. Specifically.
Race specific skills and you'll have racial augments that are capable of being applied to active skills and those augments are going to be a reflection of the flavor of that specific race. In addition, races will have differing degrees of stats and our game in our class system relies on certain stats to achieve different metrics in the game when it comes to damage, defense, and landing rates and all that kind of stuff.
and how are they going to balance this so that one race isn't the objectively superior choice for a given class in this full PvP game
They probably won't. This could be a good or bad thing. Easily could be bad.
That's assuming they even follow through on that level of autistic detail, which seems unlikely. This game is overpromising to hell and back.
>Different races have different stat compositions. Those stats can be important, but we also don't want them to dictate any kind of meta for what classes are best used with different races.
Intent is not execution. I know what they intend, if they really go for it, cool, but balance in an MMO with Pvp focus is extremely difficult, and even slight imbalances lead to massive imbalances as players flock to join one faction and then outnumber everyone by a huge degree.
so...they won't be important
or worse, stats in general won't be important
i would be surprised if stats weren't important
>Gear has approximately a 40-50% influence on a players overall power in the game.[9]
We'll see how well that gets implemented in the retail release.
>be fighter
>augment your basic melee skill "swift strike" with your racial augment
>use swift strike
>elf does a fancy spin and attack 20 for damage with a 15% chance to give +1 evasion rate for 5 seconds
>dwarf does a quick sideways chop for 20 damage with a 5% chance to reduce the enemy's defense by 2% for 5 seoncds
>human does a rapier-like poke for 20 damage with a 10% chance to reduce the enemy's armor rating by 5% f0r the next hit
>ork does an upward swing for 20 damage with a 10% chance to reduce the enemy's stamina recovery rate by 3% for 5 seconds
Truly the race made a worthy difference
>meta established
>removed from raid and have to reroll if you don't pick the right one
>gets patched to different
>have to reroll again
Oh boy can't wait
>human
>brown human
>short human
>short brown human
>not shown
>tall brown human
>human with face paint
>elf
>elf
wow i don't care about any of these at all!
Tulnar or Ren’Kai for me. Will be playing a tanky class of some sort
Well by 2029 you might change your mind
That's all generic as shit
Also apostrophe abuse in fantasy naming should be outlawed
Wasn't New World supposed to be all of this and ended up failing in every aspect?
Does it have a node system?
yes
Link?
it's not FFXI
Isn't this game a kickstarter scam that collapsed a couple years ago? They were giving out plots of land and NPC citizens/workers for their in-game kingdoms planned for release for six-figure donation awards? OR is this a different game? AFAIK the only sandbox MMO that worked at all like intended was EVE Online.
No. See
new this system has been in mmos for decades
Fricking Zoomers
will this mmo be one that focus on endgame hardcore quest or casual playing around?
I hope it's focused on leveling up and not end game.
It's focused on risk vs reward. You can get the best items in the game by stealing them from other players, beating huge bosses, or just literally crafting it yourself from ultra rare materials that you'll probably have to trade to get since getting them will require some other type of specialization
I'm sold. This is the kinda stuff I've wanted for ever. Like I can get a gang of pkers, stalk a pve guy and kill him when he's alone to take his shit?
https://ashesofcreation.wiki/PvP
so pvp is 100% mandatory. well that is another game down the drain. goodbye
Final Fantasy is that way, carebear. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I play WoW, but anyways good luck. pvp mmos never make it out, and this shit is a scam btw the next star citizen.
NTA, but even if this isn't a scam (or at least isn't trying to be one 'on purpose' which is how I think honestly SC started out then went full moronic israelite), true sandbox nearly 100% player dictated MMORPGs are a pipe dream. The technology won't be there for awhile (and if they want "action combat" and destructible buildings/environments, not until the far future even), and even if they could make work on the technical front; metagaming outside of the game itself (Discord communication and organizing, RTM, popular streamers forming gigantic cults of personality with free many and servants from their army and simps, not the mention datamining and hacking/cheating) will collapse any change of player-driven world building happening organically.
>Isn't that what Diablo 3 is?
I don't get the joke.
Never played Ultima I take it
>Ultima
I've heard about it. Heard that EA killed it after they bought out the Ultima devs via a bunch of shitty changes to first make it easier in general and then later to try to make it like WoW. Wonder if there are any good private servers or spiritual successors. All the sandbox stuff is probably much more feasible with a game being isometric and 2D rather then fully 3D.
>thinking i play FF
bro i play puzzle pirates
No?
Not as exciting as I was hoping. One of these days we'll have a realistic pvp system where raiders can lose literally everything after one bad outing.
Ascension wow has something like that, but it's still just world of warcraft underneath all the changes.
that sounds like a game maybe for the 5% hardcore part of the playerbase.

HEEHEE, THANK YOU!
The guy literally was the biggest pay to win whale in Archeage and decided he was going to make his own MMO better than Archeage after he was banned with his guild
Question: Why do multiplayer RPGs always have to be *M*MORPGs? Why are there never just MORPGs or even MRPGs? I think a game like Skyrim but made with a multiplayer friendly engine and just allowed people to host their own servers that can handle couple hundred to a thousand people playing at a time and each server able to each use their own custom/modded content would be a lot better.
Isn't that what Diablo 3 is?
>Why are there never just MORPGs or even MRPGs?
Sounds like Neverwinter Nights/ Nveverwinter Nights 2. For smaller scale MMO, there are games like LOTR online, and D&D Online (not neverwinter).
>For smaller scale MMO, there are games like LOTR online, and D&D Online
What I want is not really a "small scale MMO" but rather an open world RPG like Skyrim but with functional open world multiplayer so groups of people can just make their own MMOs and never have to deal with subscription/expansion/microtransation again. Each server can set their own things like what classes they are and how they're balanced, if they're PVE or PVP focused, if the PVP is open or not and if you can loot other players. Effectively make the entire MMORPG genre obsolete.
Yes anon. That is Neverwinter Nights. You have Persistant Worlds. Mini MMOs made with unique assets and features. You got Star Wars, Ravenloft, Mystara, LotR and so on. You got PvP focused PWs, RP focused ones and so on. Each server is unique. You can make whatever MMO you want within Neverwinter Nights.
Also I played Alpha 1 of AoC. The Node system worked, the PvP worked, Castle Sieges worked. And there are multiple videos of this. Alpha 2 with more shit is probably early to mid next year at most. The game is therem Just needs refinment. What will ruin it is if Steven listens to whiny whales over actual players like what happened with Archeage
Fully hyped up because a basic working tech test didn't completely fail and that means they can make a dream game
I'm not hyped for anything. I am saying what was promissed was in the alpha and worked. Which is more than I can say for other games like Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, and Shroud of the Avatar. Which promised shit they couldn't impliment at all. The tech for AoC has been implimented and proven to work with video evidence from Asmongoloid, Lazy Peon and other moronic MMO tubers. Which means all they need to do is refine and improve upon it. Which we've seen from dev updates. I'm not hyped. I am at best reassured for now. If things go wrong I lose nothing I couldn't afford to lose. At least it's not a korean grindfest like AA. Most of the "insane", "impossible", features are just more fleshed out shit from Lineage 2 and BDO.
I was interested about this guy's dream game but then I read on the wiki that the game has preorder in-game shit and cosmetics and a cosmetics shop. The creator supposedly has all the money for the project yet he's still forced to use cancerous microtransactions in his "dream" game.
>Unreal Engine 5 MMORPG
>2022
>Still getting excited for an mmo
Also the last time a single guy funded his dream mmo game, we got fricking Warframe.
warframe is good though
I have arround 2000 hours more than you and I say it's an absolute clusterfrick.
the frick it is, frick you
it's a shame it looks like shit
either it's all bs because the game has the same design constraints as any other themepark mmo with an actual massive player base, or it's a true sandbox dominated by whichever guild can organize the largest amount of players and all other players will become subservient to them which causes most players to lose interest.
It's a big world. Highly unlikely one guild will rule even half of it
it doesn't need to be literally one guild, the point is that every region of the world will be owned by some mega guild and you either have to play for them or get stomped under their heel. you cannot be free or independent and still play in a successful or even productive way. you will end up with 80% or more of the player base in one of the big guilds and have an in-game corporate job working for a boss. that is what happened to eve. where the active player count at one point was 25k, while the roster for the goon swarm was 35k, and half of all major battles occurred between the same 5 guilds.
the problem with realistic world building is that it will be realistic. corporations will own everything.
this exact concern is addressed with in-game mechanics
?t=84
>Tab targeting
Oh, look, it is another Black Desert / Tree of Savior mmo
>And the guy funding it is some dude that got super rich off some other shit
I was in a guild with this guy in Aion. What's funny is he was telling the truth about being rich back then, but he also lies habitually about everything so good luck with the game lel
>people have already played the game
>there are constant video updates showing new stuff in the game
there's no lie
People playing the game are hype e-celebs
huh? anyone that paid to get into the alpha is playing it
The MMO-Players hate everything competetive and where you need to think.
And if you cant buy everything for real money, it will fail pretty fast.
Genuinely don't get the love for PvP in MMOs. You know there are genres out there better equipped for a player vs. player format right? It's like playing a fighting game for the story.
It's about the entire idea of a faction war and a serious extended conflict with depth rather than everything starting and ending in a random arcadey match.
To me the main appeal of a MMO is the PvP, I don't really care about the PvE aspect of most MMOs.
mmo's have been a dead genre for 15 years zoomy. you already missed the golden years and the decline. VR will possibly revive it, but until then frick off
The art style is "contemporary" which is to say that it's based in more realistic details allowable by our tech's standards. This means it will age poorly and will look "ugly" in a manner of years.
Blizzard (up till Legion-ish) mastered cartoonish realism
Star citizen 2.0
>"SPAM ONE OF THE MILLIONS OF SPELLS/SKILLS ON EVERY GCD" MMO
Cringe. Pantheon is the only MMO hope with slower paced combat with longer cooldowns and forced 8-10 spells/skills max like Guild Wars 1. Made by a dev team that actually has visions of trying to improve upon the genre instead of "WOAH TONS OF PLAYERS LMAO". Sure, Pantheon might not come out ubtil 2024 at the earliest, but still.
Nothing about Ashes is revolutionary or new. Just gimmicks.
>pvp
heres you dwarfbro
imagine the pube mound
Is it a sandbox?
No it's a curated game that unlocks different aspects based on player action. If everyone plays in the north part of the map then the north part of the map will be developed and the south part wilderness.
well that sounds like something that will never actually work in practice
It's more granular than what I made it sound like.
higher granularity than what you described seems even more unlikely
>Are you hyped?
No.
>Do you think it will fail for some reason?
Yeah, it's not f2p.
Brand new dev team
Random funding
Selling endless cosmetics
Lots of tech demos of graphics not fun or good gameplay at all
Star citizen tards magnet. Practically talking less than 2% chance of success
>Random funding
the guy leading it is funding it
oh no! whatever will we do without the south american bot farms
Uhhh they are selling new 500 dollar cosmetics packs every month and selling a shitty weekend alpha for 500 dollars. That's not from out of pocket
They are selling new cosmetic bundles every month for 2 or so years now. It's a Star Citizen light version. They rake in a huge ton of cash. The game eventually comes out. People will realize it's like every fricking MMO before. Most of the ppl jump on the next bandwagon. Sunk cost idiots will probably stay and buy a low effort expansion. Then the game dies and the MLM master David Shariff is laughing with millions of profit.
cyberpunk of mmos
The name sets my teeth crooked. "Ashes of Creation" just sounds too much like a pump and dump Korean MMO. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far though, I'll give it that.
vaporware
why yes we will have a 64 class system game with multiple races where every race will change how your skills works
why yeah our game will have 7 different types of PVP
yes of course our game will be balanced, we are a team making our first MMO
what! no no we are not a indie team making a game way out of our league, of course we know what we are doing, why would think otherwise
You have to be fricking moronic if you think this is ever coming out.
Same types who have 4000 dollars in star shitizen ships
Omg they are promising my DREAMS and can do it because no evil publishers!!!
It's shit like every other PVP-focused MMO where 99% of the time the open-world PVP is ganking
Pretty sure you get branded as an outlaw and can't enter cities if you gank too much. That's what I remember hearing some time ago anyway
nobody ganks alone, its always 10 v 1 and good luck rounding up a posse to take on 10+ more gankers at once
yeah, i don't know why people still pretend that world pvp is a good thing.
it's never ever 1v1, it's always a few people ganking together or one dude ganking lowbies who can't hope to fight back.
99% of MMO is nostalgia and dreams
>yeah, i don't know why people still pretend that world pvp is a good thing.
I'm the one who ganks.
World PVP can work, but like most things that "can work", you need to come up with a completely new design for the game. You can't just insert it into what we currently have.
>When you gain that corruption you have the potential of losing your completed items, your weapon, your armor, stuff that is very difficult to achieve; and then the other aspect of that is, that in order to deter basically players taking alternate characters and saying this is my PK alt, the more players you kill, the more corruption you gain, the higher your combat efficacy in PVP diminishes. If you're out there and you killed you know 20 players... you will not be able to perform in PVP any longer. You will need to take that character and go work off that corruption. The other aspect of corruption is that if you kill another player, who is a non-combatant and the level disparity between you and that player is great, you will gain a higher amount of corruption from that single kill. To the point where you should not be killing a level one character.
>your gear vanishes if you PK too much
so what's stopping someone from making a PK alt and just letting it be naked while he ganks lowbies?
based on this
nothing really
Presumably you won't even be able to kill lowbies if you're corrupted enough
that seems like people will just take it as a challenge.
I'm pretty sure after a certain point you will do literally 0 damage in PVP
people will find a way.
real gay. i want to make pve tards suffer.
you can still kill whoever, you just cant make that the only thing you ever do
Can I get mobs to accidentally kill them with aoe attacks? All I really enjoy is being an butthole.
that's a good question.
shill-kun, what's to stop a max level player from rounding up 30 aoe-spamming mobs and dragging them into lowbies?
because you'll keep getting weaker and weaker the more you do it
and your gear doesn't vanish when you get corrupted. Corrupted players just can drop their gear when they are killed.
Also
>A corrupt player’s location is revealed to bounty hunters on their world map.[132][108]
> Corrupted players can be attacked regardless of other affiliations. This is something that will be tested during Alpha-2.[128]
In my dreams here is how mechanics work
Kek frick off moron
so what stop me from just having a bunch of accounts and just swap the equips around then ?
each account will be 15 dollars a month, and it really won't help you that much. Once all your accounts are corrupted, there is nowhere to hide your gear.
so why fricking have full PvP at all
You can still contest farm spots every now and then, and there's some stuff like trade caravans which can always be attacked without penalty. The point of the system is to deter pvp for no reason other than to be an butthole
If it's a challenge then it's not
>max level farming lowbies
>high corruption from killing lowbies
so people will grief by summoning lowbie alts into high level farming zones, then suiciding then into high level players giving them huge corruption.
wonderful system, bravo.
no, if you attack someone then the person killing you isn't going to gain corruption
you don't have to attack, just stand in their aoe and die.
boom.
>Non-forced attacks (such as AoE) will not hit non-combatant players.[8]
eh, doesn't matter.
you can just stand next to mobs until the player hits you by mistake, and that will be a one-shot.
then they're corruptmaxxing, and you can log your main and steal their gear.
>if you kill another player, who is a NON-COMBATANT
I get that you're pessimistic, but try to pay attention. Afaik, there isn't summoning in the game either
The lowbie will get killed by high level mobs which should be agressive, I used to play in an open world PVP mmo and this never happened.
>the more you like PVP the more the game punishes you for doing it
Great design.
Faction PvP is the focus and won't penalise you. Fighting over nodes, castle sieges and the like. Really it's just ganking players that penalises you.
Why does the game allow you to do it in the first place if it needs to punish you for doing it?
everything is about risk and reward. You can simply work your corruption off. Think of it like a weapons durability going down when you use it and it needing repairs.
What is the reward you get from killing a noob?
Becoming a notorious butthole and legend of your server
>become famous from killing 5 people before the punishment system makes you useless
Yeah sounds likely.
moron
No one cares
I can invent 500 systems and they are all as real as this shit game
it only punishes you for killing low level players that don't want to fight you.
>guy spend $45 million dollars of his own money making a good game
>Ganker still whines about it being a scam
So what
Kurt schilling did the same thing with his own money and lost it all. Does using lots of your money mean anything?
MMORPG are low chance highly technical ventures
>still sells monthly cosmetic packs before the game is even out
the guy running the scam investing money to get the scam up and running doesn't mean it's not a scam
He might already made it back with the cosmetics.
This guy became rich from a MLM company, he's a legit scammer who's arguably worse than Chris Roberts. At least Chris was just a used car salesman
Flowchart for this shit
Timelines start slipping
More cosmetics
More one off cosmetic sales to milk fans
More tech demos showing off things that look amazing but don't work in reality
Lots of baiting with huge concepts of do anything promises
Years pass, slowing progress, timelines missing totally, more tech demos and short few days events
Keep in mind the MMO crowd are all pathetic pieces of shit who will hype up anything, bless online was hyped, new world was hyped, they do it every time
By keeping every test short they will keep the dreamers believing because you can put the MMORPG cretin into the worst beta imaginable and they will hype release
Tldr don't get sucked in. Laugh at the trash people getting scammed
>Okay, let's see.
>$15 a month sub (once it's finally out)
>Grossly overpriced paid beta testing
>Currently still in ALPHA1 according to their web-site
Yeah, nah.
No thanks.
The problem with most MMOs is I don't give a frick about the factions.
They are totally barebones and there is little to root for one side over the other.
There are no NPC factions in AoC. It's like Eve. The node system neccesitates PvP between different Player run guilds. Instead of bs factions with gay lore you have the actual history in game of different shit guilds do. Grudges, victories, defeats and so on. Race just informs appearance, stats, and the apperance of nodes based ob how much of a majority of a certain race contributed to it's growth.
We already had some intrigue and Eve like autism fights between guilds during Alpha 1.
I'll give it a go.
Guys this guy who made a fortune with a scamming business is making the DREAM MMORPG omg just like Chris Roberts without a publisher. I trust him so much and it's all for passion so I'll pay 500 dollars to sit in a tech demo
i havent seen anyone mention it yet but they're gonna have battleground esq things called Events where you also que up
idk if anyone cares, just saw a bunch of people talking about world pvp, there's gonna be some different types
>make up a billion systems
>Scam victims discuss them for a scam
Kek it really is star citizen again
Logical humans
Even shit like new world is technically way better working than this game. They have a better chance of Amazon funding a 60 million revamp than this pile of shit ever working or releasing
>MMO
>revolves around combat
only complain so far is that the dagger animations are completely fricked
and there probably needs to be more then 1 auto attack animation
healing from alpha was also hyper braindead so we'll hopefully see some changes coming 2A in december.
Sad thing with the MMORPG bacteria playerbase is you can't say wait till release to judge because the shit fanbase will hype every game till 3 months after release
So actually wait till 3 months after release to judge any mmo
if you are into MMOs then 3 months is typically all you need to experience what a game has to offer, be it a new expansion or launch. who cares if the game goes to shit after?
That's now how it works moron
Here is how it works. MMORPG community works themselves into a moron spaz frenzy
Game comes out. They all grind mechanics, tell everyone the game is only good at max level in the farthest content
Everyone grinds , lose half players because it's shit, people who grind to max then grind to maxed gear
At this point they all realize it's terrible. Only grinded for the skinner box type addiction and payoff that never comes
Game dies
MMORPG crowd are basically drug addicts chasing the dragon
Stop following game development of scams
Stop theorycrafting pvp in a game that probably won't release for 4 years+
Your stupid ass cosmetic packs is a waste of money
MMOs need to scale down imo. Instead of big open world maps maybe just have some hub worlds and a bunch of instances instead like PSO1 or PSU.
But also make it a good game that people want to play.
Honestly I'm surprised Monster Hunter hasn't done a decent hub lobby that fits 100 or so online hunters in 1 area to make those games feel more alive and social
How many times must this happen for you people to learn?
It takes decades for a lot of people. Some extra special morons never learn.
>The closed beta is just an empty soulless map with the same copy/pasted dragon everywhere
>"ITS GONNA BE THE BEST GAME EVER!!!"
Lol
Lmao even
>Based around PvP
dead on arrival, this shit never works because it always means some streamer or another is gonna dominate everything because of their army of simps.
Does shit like this even happen? Most stream followers are 0 IQ players that are trivial to farm since they barely play the game in the first place. Now granted I don't play on NA servers which is where I guess the really big streamers are but highly ranked guilds or clans grouping up has always been 100 times the threat of any single streamer on EU.
Give me a detailed explanation of star citizen mining mechanics
*Game crashes 50 times*
They have a million obstacles before their stupid ass design ideas matter
Yeah no, literally another unwitting scam game. They're all the same, lots of promises, "we'll focus on that next", whole thing collapses because its appealing not to good game design, but MMO copying.
Combat looks like shit. They should just copy BDOs combat
>pvp focused
dropped
>all these systems (none of which will ever be realized)
>the combat which you do 99% of the time you spend playing will just be pressing the same three buttons over and over
mmogays never learn
Also I think the star citizen genre is an escapism genre
It's not selling a game
It's selling the idea of a game so good it's better than RL
It's selling the dream itself and maybe subconsciously or consciously the victim scammed wants to be scammed even better
The Jesus like head Christ Roberts or this guy at aoc are also important as savior figures
In gme stock they made jesus figure too
Because of Christ Roberts or insert figured angelic status the DREAM can be realized
So yes the star citizen genre
Need an angelic hero leader who will magically make it all possible versus other publishers/leaders
Need to sell more and more design or possibilities. You can do anything, design after design, more classes, more options, flying caravans boats underwater mounts etc
Focus mainly on technical demos and some graphics stuff mostly coming from the engine
Aoc is taking it to the next level with short events to bring in streamers
pvp is cancer
If I wanted pvp I would play pvp
RPG is strictly PVE and collaborating with NPCs, immersion is lost when PVP is introduced.
MMOs should be about collaborating with other people.
pve is cancer
If I wanted pve I would play wow
RPG is strictly PVP and collaborating with other players, immersion is lost when instanced raiding is introduced.
almost every tabletop RPG strongly discourages players fighting players
if I wanted to interact with people I'd go to a bar. I play MMOs for the PvE, like the other 95% of players
>$500 beta
no thanks, legitimately looked like shit in the big alpha test they did like 6 months ago or whatever.
>he didn’t kickstart it for a free lifetime sub
It was a gamble at the time but I’m thinking I made the right choice
Opportunity cost
Most adults invest their money and not give it away
It will fail for the same reason as Secret World. Too much hype too early. By the time it releases, if it ever does, no one will care anymore and other games that didn't get bogged down by feature creep will already surpass it.
They started the hype train like 5 years ago, I was into it 5 years ago. Now I'm 5 years older and have other shit to do, so I don't care about playing it anymore.
But dude it's already 2% of the way done with all this content they promised
Kek the funny thing is they have mountains of cosmetics and it's 99% still concept art
Secret World failed because it had a moronic DLC/expansion scheme
Secret World failed because the world was tiny and the combat was garbage
the world was small yes but it was easily one of the most immersive MMO worlds I've experienced
MMOs are not good for anything except getting people addicted to grinding. The Koreans had it right all along. Everything that MMOs do, another genre does better. Anything that's unique to MMOs is something that neither developers nor players give a frick about.
It's hard already to make a good game with a 10 hour single player experience. MMORPG complicates everything on top of that. Yes, as an investor you would always avoid MMORPG as a genre
>single player experience
MMOs have always had a golden opportunity to put the main focus of the game on the world itself and social interaction between players existing together within it...
But they never do. The world always becomes an afterthought you ignore after burning through it all just for exp and the socializing is boiled down to it's most brutal and basic form of finding the most optimized team to crunch through whatever ungodly grind awaits you at the end. Or just to funnel you to a cash shop.
>social interaction
That's really the core of what makes MMOs special and nobody even thinks that the game should fundamentally revolve around it. The best idea anyone has for player interaction is "uhhhh pvp" which battle royales do better 100% of the time.
Battle royales/mobas/FPS's are just brainless pvp games. The goal of the game is to beat other people and nothing else.
The ideal world pvp in an mmo isn't just to beat people up but it needs to have some sort of driving force, like guild feuds and zone or resource control.
Recently in Classic WoW, world pvp to farm honor was pretty dogshit. But world pvp to control Blackrock Mountain and the raid entrances, Silithus Hives to farm AQ scepter and Devilsaurs for leather in Un'Goro were all interesting and engaging in some way. The game is old and theorycrafted to hell so pretty much all the information and strategies were solved before release, but a new game with these elements has a chance to be really fun and a completely different experience to just a battle royale instanced pvp
One of the main problems with open world MMO PVP is that it's asymmetric. It's only fun for the person/group who has bigger guns in any given interaction, the ratio of balanced fights to unbalanced fights is fricked by the nature of the game.
Yeah it doesn't really work in practice. There are amazing moments but the average experience is horrible. Need a large set of objectives and 3+ sides for open world
>classic wpvp
>interesting
yeah bro that's why all of the servers were 90/10 faction balance or worse, right?
because people were having so much fun with that.
>world pvp to farm honor was pretty dogshit
This is the reason why many servers snowballed in faction balance. Doesn't invalidate my point that bug farming pvp skirmishes and zone control was great on the few balanced servers that did exist
That was 100% reddit's fault. Many of the private servers i played on were much more balanced.
Vrchat is the best social experience in a game type product, much more than second life, and it's still a very niche product
Animal crossing, harvest moon, Minecraft to some degree are probably better inspirations for a successful mmo
>Animal crossing, harvest moon, Minecraft to some degree are probably better inspirations for a successful mmo
how can someone be so stupid and yet live
Look at the hype on hytale
>riot
will die faster than Teamfight Tactics
>Hytale
didn't they literally restart development from scratch like a month ago
>MMOs have always had a golden opportunity to put the main focus of the game on the world itself and social interaction between players existing together within it...
Hasn't this been the core premise of the majority of MMOs in the last 10 years? New World was literally built on the idea of colonizing an untamed land, having players cooperate to control land against NPC factions and monsters, and trading. Black Desert, Aion, and others I can't recall the names of have all promised this "world-based" gameplay and yet they've all turned out to be complete turds. Why the frick would this one turn out any different?
Online games need to be smaller, like a plaza, and riddled with things to do. I enjoy Tower Unite for this, it's better with friends.
literally any game is good with friends, that's not a selling point
Yeah it’s not true
name one (1) game that's not fun with friends. Don't worry, I'll wait
This answer will shock you, because I did not know this or would believe until I have seen it: Mario Party and any games that rip it off. Those games are just somehow designed to ruin friendships. They better serve as Squid Games vs people you already hate and not something you should play with anyone you even remotely like as a person.
>spends forever in development
>unable to keep with current gmsing trends and ideas
>launch is barren and missing lots of activities and interactions that were promised
>"we'll delayed those until a future update"
>plays worse than new world with even less story and endgame content
I wish you were right but you arent soz
And the problem with "controlling resources" is that people need to sleep and have lives and play other games and generally do other things than play the same game.
It's wide scale, so one guild forcing all it's members to stay up all night to grief resources won't have that big of an impact
The zones or whatever are huge and it takes a long time to level them up or to actually siege one, the zone mayors or whatever have to decide on it
>Objective-based PvP events such as Node sieges, Castle sieges, Guild wars, and Node wars will occur within a prime-time window somewhere between 3PM and 9PM server time. This is subject to testing.[12][13][14]
>just integrate the game into your daily schedule bro
Nah I think I'll play a game that doesn't make demands from me.
it's not like defending a town is going to solely depend on you anyway
no fletching, no buy
Still gonna have floaty animations and combat.
>world pvp
Glorified game promoted griefing. If this game launches with this, it's immediately dead on arrival. Playerbase are moronic chickens who will kill all the fun out of a game if you allow them.
How can you be so limp wristed? Just kill them if they get in your way or you suck. Is it because real people aren't scripted and addons can't tell you how to beat them?
It's because it's a waste of my fricking time dealing with spastic morons who can't handle real PvP games.
He is SOMEWHAT correct. In Open world pvp games like Albion you will never run into a 1v1 fight in the open world.
You will always be zerged on every occasion so solo world content is pretty shit because the game is full loot pvp and world pvp boils down to who has the better mix of more people + better gear.
The moment there's benefit to be had from pvping people in the open world the moment going solo is useless and you are forced to be in a group for most content.
Is it inherently a bad thing? depends on who you ask.
>Promise promise promise
>You can do anything
>Every mechanic ever made
>Infinite content!
>Player driver everything!
Wake me up either when it releases in 15 years, or the game gets scrapped in 5 when the budget runs dry.
they've already finished quite a lot of it
Can someone explain what's so bad about datamining again? I don't get it.
SPOILERS
most people care about spoilers
And sense of mystery and exploration is shattered when you know everything right away.
What
Said. And really, the whole want for this "perfect player driven freedumb based MMO" is people wanting a second life that can somehow capture the magic of the >pic-related above and never dripping down to the bottom half. Somehow, a game being a sandbox would help with that.
Yes, we are really here just to suffer. Get over it.
Picrel is because mmos got taken over by game developpers who entirely focused on game mechanics and playability without even knowing that the genre was originally about tabletop RPGs.
That's how the genre went from immersive sandboxes to coop action games
I want to experience the game fully and not have some dickwad tell me to go watch jimmy e-celebs guide on youtube.
>mmo
>forced pvp
does this have full loot to have the trifecta of "dead after a week" signs?
all the most popular games are pvp
>medieval setting
Snore
>Literally everything promised about this game is perfect.
now watch it as WoW still retains the rank #1 title.
bro, warframe has more players than wow
source: my ass.
How are the playable beast races? This is an important question.
>Muh changing economy
>Muh you can build anywhere
>That moronic caravan system
>Muh ingame politics
Another MMO fund cashgrab that over promises on mechanics that sound cool but in actuality nobody cares about and will be stuck in development hell for atleast 2 decades.
No thanks, you morons should've learned by now.
No one plays mmorpgs for any of that garbage by the way it's all fancy mechanics that only end up being utilized by the 5 people that no life the game the most and the caravan system sounds like a good way to enable brain dead zerging.
>buy a founder pack or you are homeless
>players decide what content is open and when, causing server-wide spreadsheets that will make wow classics autistic onyxia-turnins look normal.
you are out of your mind if you think this game will stay fun when players have learned how to optimize.
I don't want an MMO. Just want an RPG.
I don't want "builds" and "raids" and "leveling" and "mounts".
I want a world I can go adventuring in which I interact with other people.
Why are even the independent MMOs which should have a lot of creative freedom so god damn derivative.
Project Gorgon is the only one I've even HEARD of trying to make something unique.
reminds me of the chronicles of elyria scam.
>getting hyped for any video game in 2022
>getting hyped for any MMO ever
are you moronic?
While ashes looks quite nice even with tab targeting, I can't imagine that MMOs will have a comeback. Other genres and games picked the aspects from MMOs and created something that has more freedom and let people stick together. Coop games like the various popular shooters and what not, and sandbox games like Valheim or Conan exiles come to my mind.
Nah, people still love RPGs, just look at the success of Skyrim, Elden Ring or even something like AC Valhalla. A good MMORPG will always have an audience because coop games and online shooters don't scratch that same itch at all. Survival games are somewhat similar, but they lack the in-depth character progression. The issue with the MMORPG genre is simply that it's too expensive to make and every dev who tries to is either playing it safe with some kind of WoW clone or does some super janky full pvp autism game that gets maybe 1000 concurrent players and then dies.
Yeah, the problem is also it's audience that never really plays any of the games. They will lament here for days over trivial details and never give any game a shot. The genre is a dead end.
Best MMO would be Wurm but without the unholy grind and macrobait gameplay, which they then pay jannies to hunt for afk players since they want you to sit there pressing 3 buttons for 18 hours a day.
The bigger the list of promised features, the less faith I have in that mmo being good. I think if we ever see a massive hit mmorpg again, it will be a very simple game in terms of gameplay mechanics, but with a revolutionary netcode that allows for hundreds of players to be on the screen at one time without turning into a slide show like WoW and the other big MMOs do.
>Dude it's an mmo but with power structures just like real life!
I will never understand why you gays want this. Do you seriously think you're going to be calling the shots all of a sudden in the game? No, you will still be the wagie of the setting, crafting 1000 pristine iron bars a week for the benefit of Chad McDragonslayer, played by a NEET autist of unfathomable proportions who spends 18 hours per day in game and shits and pisses in bottles, and for your guild leader and his e-girlfriend (male) who have autists like the aforementioned NEET and idiots like yourself working for their benefit because they possess a modicum of social skills that you lack.
The truth is, the same social dynamics that make you a loser IRL will make you a loser in this game, too. If you want to experience a power fantasy in a medieval fantasy setting, play a single player WRPG.
This. This so much. And this is even ignoring things like RMT which isn't new but far more widespread and will ruin in game economies. And popular streamers with their army of simps invading the game and even being able to effortlessly overpower the no life autist tryhards by having their fans gather vast wealth for them (via both legit and illegit/RMT methods) and mass report people who 'harass' them (beat consistently in game), all while receiving a decent salary of real income as they ruin the server communities.
>If you want to experience a power fantasy in a medieval fantasy setting, play a single player WRPG.
Also this. It's super fricking odd that people want things from MMORPGs that we don't even have a lot of in single player RPGs yet. Maybe start there and then work that up to NWN style online multiplayer (but in modern 3D action combat games as they seem to want), before trying this in a true MMO framework.
>Literally everything promised
you poor poor stupid child
literally all i care about
is that the scout class
goes FAST
like i wanna be a sanic homie
with a bow
homie goin fast surfin the land
kiting gays in armor
it isnt gonna happen but
ashes is the perfect mmo because it doesnt exist
All the mounts and cosmetic garbage is incredibly offputting.
Nice try david sharif.
Promising is easy.
Everquest next was even better in promises, it was going to have AI chatbots and dwaef fortress level NPC simulation aswell as a voxel based world. But it couldn’t deliver. I agree ashes looks like the next best thing.
But right now it mostly looks like overpriced promises.
The combat update looked sweet tho
Bad comparison, SOE was sold by Sony while they were in the middle of development and the investment company they sold it to scrapped absolutely everything
Overhyped dogturd already selling vaporware skins. Tailor made to whisper to asocial zoomers and moronic nostalgia-high boomers with its "player-made content" meme. It will literally just be Fallout Radiant quests, zerg'd worldbosses and at absolute best Eve Online tier autism where d*scord communities of spergs will become the mafia.
