NTA but IMO Platinum doesn't really make Sinnoh a whole lot more fun to play. Its best improvements are better Pokedex variety and graphical QOL updates. The game is still slow as frick and overreliant on roadblocks, which sucks given most of your game time is spent battling or walking. The Battle Frontier is cool, but HGSS also has the exact same Frontier as well as more interesting side content. It's in the top half of Pokemon games but out of the "golden era" games I think it's easily the weakest.
You hear this "it's so slow" argument all the time but it has no footing. How often will you knock out a full health Blissey, never and you will rarely knock out a high level Pokémon in one shot regardless, the only actual slow part of the game is in the march and snow area where you are slowed down for like what, 10 minutes? The games takes like what 10-20 hours to beat, is 10 minutes really such a big deal? I can agree with your other criticisms, although I'd have to say Sinnoh is a good region overall just like Hoenn and Johto, they're not amazing omg best games of all time but that's never what Pokémon games have been regardless.
You don't have to knock out a full health Blissey to recognize that DPPs battles take longer than other games. It may be only marginally longer, but when you do so many goddamn battles that 1HP/frame cap really adds up, especially in the lategame when Pokemon have more HP and stronger attacks.
Blissey is just a good visual display. You have to be moronic to think the games aren't sloe because you're not fainting Blisseys
Most of the game is against mid level opponents though, that's my point. Yes the health drain is slower, but for most of the game it's like what, 5 seconds slower? It doesn't make a difference.
>and you will rarely knock out a high level Pokémon in one shot regardless
This is still a problem in fricking HGSS, if you decide to EXP Share grind near Mt. Silver which I've done not too long ago it's still pretty fricking slow. This is to say nothing of trying to do local Multis in the Battle Tower, that was probably my most miserable Pokemon experience personally.
Grinding is slow in all older Pokémon games, this problem isn't exclusive to DPP.
>Health bars drain slower >Weather effects in long routes make every encounter 30% longer >Long routes with snow/mud stopping your progress every minute >Puzzles in the game are frequent and more time consuming then in HGSS or others >A billion HMs that you have to use consecutively >Long stretches between gyms for no reason make you feel like you made no progress until you just start plowing through them >Random shit like menus being slower >Bronzong exists on every team
Play it back to back with any of the other games you realize that this game was slow by design
Weather effects have always been slow, but I can see the frustration with this. If you turn animations off it's not an issue though.
Snow/mud routes, there's only 2 in the entire game. They add like what, 15 minutes to the overall game? They're frustrating yeah but once you done you never have to go back there.
what's wrong with puzzles being more difficult? I didn't mind it.
Yeah Sinnoh has too many HMs.
I personally don't mind the longer routes between gyms, makes the world feel bigger and less like a themepark like other gens.
The menu thing, I never had any issue with that.
Eh the Bronzong thing isn't really true, and it's easy to oneshot.
I'm not saying DPP are perfect games but a lot of these "problems" people have with them seem overexaggerated

There were definitely signs that seem so obvious now looking back. GF was always behind the standard in terms of development and polish but their style was atleast proficient giving them ample time to dump more effort into post game and quests and mini games and stuff that made the world feel more alive.
Now they're dead tired stuck in second gear struggling with polygons while the rest of the gaming world makes it look easy.
There is no getting out of their rut either cos their sales numbers will never drop significantly enough for the higher ups to invest in the development side of things.
Maybe because you were young and weren't super cynical about everything
I didn't really give it much thought, but I genuinely thought that a step into 3D would mean getting Battle Revolution graphics.
How wrong I was.
I've never understood the retroactive praise for Battle Revolution, it was considered a subpar game and the novelty of seeing Pokemon in 3D had already been fulfilled by Stadium 7 years before
I remember being hyped for Gen 4 with all the teases in the late Gen 3 spin-off games
In Gale of Darkness there were a couple of side quests that involved both Munchlax and Bonsly
In the first Mystery Dungeon game appeared Munchlax too as an NPC, and you could get reward statues of Bonsly, Weavile, Mime Jr. and Lucario for your garden
And in the first Ranger game there was a special quest where you could get a Manaphy egg and then transfer it to Diamond and Pearl when they came out...
Honestly it's missing BW which would be a second horse ass because they thought doing a pseudo reboot was a fun idea instead of continuing to draw the fricking horse.
I guess this fits sorta as it was part of a golden age of youtube, that I rediscovered today. Honestly, I am just looking for an excuse to share this. https://youtu.be/BqcB3ms4LFc
I think the praise for battle revolution compared to the 3d games comes from the fact that people expected the battles to at least be the quality of pokemon battle revolution. Instead they're a bit worse.
Unironically feel that pokemon has never been worse than mediocre. Which means, I believe pokemon has never been bad.
When we talk about 'bad pokemon games', we're comparing them to the quality of other pokemon games, where some are indeed better than others in certain aspects. The closest thing to a 'bad pokemon game' is pic related. But we don't hold spin-offs to the same scrutiny as mainline games.
Trying to get Emerald into the Golden Era.
Emerald is a mediocre game. The Golden Era has already been established to be Platinum/HGSS/BW/B2W2.
Watching Gen 3 gays cope is amusing.
We won't ever have it again.
Platinum is overrated
>overrated
You can't just say that word and leave it at that.
NTA but IMO Platinum doesn't really make Sinnoh a whole lot more fun to play. Its best improvements are better Pokedex variety and graphical QOL updates. Each time I have a physical attacker in the battle factory
Most of the game is against mid level opponents though, that's my point. Yes the health drain is slower, but for most of the game it's like what, 5 seconds slower? It doesn't make a difference.

have you tried...actually playing the game?
Not once have I ever thought that using the bag in DPPT was slow. This is just more autistic genwar fuel.
>I have low standards and didn't notice the blatant flaws in my childhood game!
no one cares
Indeed no one cares about some b***h boy getting filtered by the bag in a Pokemon game.
webbums you can hear
Sell some items then moron, i always wish they kept the bag limit and let you store extras in the PC
>Sell some items then moron
I'd rather just play a good game.
I recommend Platinum.
I recommend XY.
Can't you use the wheel on the touch screen to make it go faster?
Yes but nobody plays these games
If they did that they couldn't mislead people to make them agree.
>and you will rarely knock out a high level Pokémon in one shot regardless

There's not much else to say. At best it's a better version of DP, and DP are not good a good foundation.
It's like unclassy zoomer version of real sinnoh. No wonder why they remaked dp and not platinum.
I agree. I only revisited gen4 once and it was with BDSP. It feels like a cheap copy of gen3 for some reason. still better than gen5+ though
>peak battle facilities
>peak story
>peak side content
Truly the prime
Aren’t you supposed to put DP and Time and Darkness between those game?
no
Replace HGSS with BW and BW2, and it's perfect
FTFY
>"I get it but I ain't laughing..."
Saved. Excellent.
Kicking myself for not realizing that was as good as it was gonna get and appreciating that era more.
But back then I had so much optimism that the games were only going to get grander and more complex withe each new generation.
I didn't really give it much thought, but I genuinely thought that a step into 3D would mean getting Battle Revolution graphics.
How wrong I was.

No such thing
Not that anon but BR was indeed underwhelming, it brought nothing substancial. It had good aesthetics.
Ironic since we're talking about Gen 4 here, which is THE zoomer gen
Battle Revolution is a zoomer game, moron. Stadium games did the job much better.
Can I be honest? I love pokemon, but I've never been able to play a mystery dungeon game for more than 10 minutes
It's called being gay
>retrocompatibility with GBA
>wii connection
Yes. FRICKING BASED.
I want the horse's butt and belly, haha
KYS twittergay
YOU FIRST tumblrsperg tourist
>Emerald
Gen 3 sucks
>Platinum
Gen 4 sucks
>HGSS
Just play patched Crystal
>EotS
Ok that one is pretty good
nah
yah
>mainline
>mainline

What did OP mean by this?
Spin offs used to be fun
Now the most popular ones are mobile games trash
I remember being hyped for Gen 4 with all the teases in the late Gen 3 spin-off games

cope
The original had BW2 on there.
Here it is.
Honestly it's missing BW which would be a second horse ass because they thought doing a pseudo reboot was a fun idea instead of continuing to draw the fricking horse.
You can't just skip RS and DP like they never happened.
I guess this fits sorta as it was part of a golden age of youtube, that I rediscovered today. Honestly, I am just looking for an excuse to share this. https://youtu.be/BqcB3ms4LFc

This. Where the frick are my 10 second long move animations??? I want to pretend I care about playing the game!

I actually liked the pokewalker only for getting surf and flying Pikachu. I might still have it somewhere in a container
Trying to get Emerald into the Golden Era.
