i wanted to play this game, but when i found out it was a metaphor for a gay relationship i kinda just mentally checked out and skimmed through a let's play on youtube. based on what i saw it looks like a pretty lowkey mid gaming experience.

How are doors in Doom impressive? Genuinely curious.
doom engine is 2D, levels are literally a 2D map of lines with "wall/floor height" definitions. so it doesn't support rooms on top of rooms or any of the weird shit it's doing, it's hiding it all with well placed hacks
There's also just weird shit like flipping levels or things disappearing, swapping keycards for skulls, multiple endings, and seemingly endless multi floored levels, things change when you're not looking at them, rooms appear in places they're not physically possible
It's not stuff that hasn't been done before but it's all really well out together
yeah basically. nothing about it is revolutionary but it nails the idea it's going for on a technical level. the map looks like this and you nobody notices while playing.
