The only questionable thing is that Radhan is Miquella's chosen consort when nothing in the base games points to that. It feels mostly for fan service and to make an obvious Berserk parallel.

It's only shitted on by people who don't know the lore and think Godwyn can come back

why did people want Godwyn back? he was just a catalyst for the current events yeah?

                >Why would we fight Radahn?
Because he was the strongest in the land? i mean fricker took a rot nuke and still kicked ass until he got patched(and a large part of the fanbase bootlicking him which made sense on a fanservice level)

They also said there was not going to be any DLC for Elden Ring at all. Bamco likes money too much, there will 100 percent be another expansion.

                >Bamco likes money too much, there will 100 percent be another expansion.
Bamco is only the publisher for the west, fromsoft self publishes for japan and fromsoft are making other games, michaelzaki is also making another game hopefully not a souls game because the combat is starting to be stagnant.

The thing is that Radahn really had no mystery left. Sure, you could say that you really wanted to fight peak Radahn, but as the final boss he felt more of a recycle to a character whose role in the story was already finished.
The previous dlc also had things that weren't alluded to in the base game, but they don't also go against it. Gael is unknown in ds3, but his story acts as a backdrop to the cycle of fire, Orphan wasn't mentioned in base BB, but the old ones wanting to sire children with humanity is a constant plot through the game and Kos dead is just alluded to there, etc.
Miquella meanwhile had several plot threads hanging and the only one that was picked up was Trina, with the Haligtree, his defiance to the Outer Gods and his desire to save Godwyn and Malenia, ignored.in favor of a Radhan plot that came out of nowhere for a final boss battle.

yeah fair, when you put it like that, the fanservice part plays a huge part

she colluded with the black knives to kill godwyn which (presumably since the lore is so vague) caused marika to spiral and break the elden ring, literally warping the laws of reality and starting the shattering.

            >Marika had been resentful and conspiring against the Greater Will.
And you know why? Because the golden order mandates mortality and the cycle of life and death. Marika never wanted to die so she hid a essential part of the golden order away. In reality the golden order was only working as intended for a very short while. You hear about this in the first church of Marika where she is disappointment her followers aren't just blindly following her and that she herself doesn't even understand how the golden order works. She probably had a panic attack when she discovered that under the golden order nothing is allowed to be eternal.

Sure, and Rennala claimed one while moronic and trapped in the academy while Ranni did it after her death. It's implied that they had the runes before the war, the only thing that happened is that they staked them as claims to the throne after the shattering.

The Golden Order was about feeding the dead to the Erdtree to suit the Greater Will's purpose. The morality of the situation depends entirely on how much you trust the Greater Will is acting in everyone's best interest.

Marika was no true God, just as human with too much power looking at strange being trying to pull her strings. She realized this and said frick you to the outsiders.

No. The Erdtree was grown on the crucible which was also a creation of the Greater Wills. The DLC actually makes it clear that no in the setting has any contact with the GW. The fingers and Marika and the Elden Beast just guess what should be done. Marika never once was ordered to do anything by the GW everything was her own invention based on a traumatic childhood event. She despised the crucible because it's faithful burned her village and grew the Erdtree on it to spite them and called horned people cursed.

What? She literally says the opposite
              >I declare mine intent, to search the depths of the Golden Order. Through understanding of the proper way, our faith, our grace, is increased. Those blissful early days of blind belief are long past. My comrades; why must ye falter?
She's saying that they shouldn't just trust the golden order and learn more about it instead of blindly following the edicts. Golden Order Fundamentalist is what Goldmask practices and it's considered heretic by the more stubborn followers of Marika.
Besides, she knew perfectly well what the punishment of shattering the ring would be.

She probably had a panic attack when she discovered that under the golden order nothing is allowed to be eternal.

theres a theory going around that the GW sensed Marika was going to rebel so it tried to turn Ranni into a God and make Godwyn her consort, so Ranni chose to kill him to completely ruin the GWs plans

Elden Ring lore is a fricking mess

            >I was once an Empyrean. Of the demigods, only I, Miquella, and Malenia could claim that title.
            >Each of us was chosen by our own Two Fingers, as a candidate to succeed Queen Marika, to become the new god of the coming age.

Ranni was one of three chosen as potential successors to Marika, seemingly before all the shit went down. At this point, we know that Miquella actively wanted to become a God, but he was going to do it on his own terms and with Radahn as his chosen Lord. Then Radahn said "No way, gay", prompting Miquella to do all sorts of vile bullshit to get his chosen consort. Meanwhile, Ranni said "frick you, fingerBlack folk" from the outset and did her murder-suicide escape hatch plan. Whether or not Godwyn was being set up as her designated Lord isn't clear I think, but it could be possible. It would explain why she chose him in particular. Then there's Malenia who was either too fricked up by her AIDS and/or too cucked to Miquella to fulfill her destiny as an Empyrean. It's unclear who, if anyone, was being lined up to be her Lord.
In other words, the Fingers were angling to replace Marika for a while, but all their candidates were fricked

Nothing implies that Empyreans were made up. They were chosen by the fingers as possible replacements for Marika and the three we see all become gods in their own right so the distinction is relevant. What we don't know if what exactly separated them from other demigods but they certainly had more potential than their siblings.

The only thing they lie about is hearing the GW. If they choose someone as an Empyrean it means they hold the potential to become a god, or do you think it merely a coincidence that Miquella, Malenia and Ranni all do just that.

Marika is still the vessel of the Elden Ring, that doesn't change. You either put her back together, allow Ranni to take her role or destroy her and leave the lands between an empty wasteland. You never become a god.

Demigods are only the children of Marika. Radagon and Godfrey are never called demigods. The Elden Lord does have some unspecified degree of authority in the lands between, likely as the main enforcer if the gods order, but it doesn't come with divinity attached. The thing is that with the ring broken, whoever reforges it, outside of becoming lord, also chooses how the new order is built.

It's a subtle thing parsing out what needs explanation and what can be left to the imagination. Elden Ring is very inconsistent about what it's painfully explicit about and what it's vague about and there's not much rhyme or reason to it.

I think Marika was mad with grief and emotionally distraught when her first born was assassinated and likely blamed the GW for allowing it to happen so out of frustration attempted to shatter the Elden Ring in a vein attempt to bring him back or simply destroy the thing that she believed was the cause/allowed it to happen

i dig this, i always thought marika used radagon for her bidding in a mastermind way but this makes way more since her having multiple personality disorder and grieving her her first born (or the only known non shitty demigod)

I don’t really believe Gideon to be honest. That’s how he took it, but as others have stated, it was always planned for Godfrey and the tarnished to return and become Elden lord. Gideon was probably a blackpilled gay who didn’t think the Elden beast and greater will could be subverted

I think Marika was mad with grief and emotionally distraught when her first born was assassinated and likely blamed the GW for allowing it to happen so out of frustration attempted to shatter the Elden Ring in a vein attempt to bring him back or simply destroy the thing that she believed was the cause/allowed it to happen

marika tried to shatter the ring. as the ring is marika/radagon and the elden beast, radagon and the beast objected. the spear is similar to the bolts the beast shoots. the shattered ring shows as broken sections on the bodies of marika/radagon and the scar on the elden beast

It is essentially saying that because things exist, bad stuff can happen, therefore if nothing existed, bad stuff couldn't happen.

What? No he doesn't. All Omens are inherently graceless, as the Erdtree despises those who stray too close to the Crucible. Morgott's remembrance mentions that his love and devotion to the Erdtree was not mutual, for it did not love him, but still he was devoted to it. Bamco is only the publisher for the west, fromsoft self publishes for japan and fromsoft are making other games, michaelzaki is also making another game hopefully not a souls game because the combat is starting to be stagnant.
          [...]
yeah fair, when you put it like that, the fanservice part plays a huge part

Bandai owned the rights to Elden Ring until recently. Fromsoft bought it a month ago. They probably have a sequel in mind, but only in the distant future. Otherwise acquiring the rights was a huge waste of money.

So Marika is basically Jesus, but instead of bringing salvation she brings destruction and becomes a god.
God renounces her and the angels that chose her, sends madness to spread and destroy the world and tucks off.
Madness is contained, the world is stagnated, but Ran has a plan.
I see this as faith vs atheism were Ranni chooses to believe their onw gut while travelling on their onw and the moon "god" is no god at all, just a power to be used by humanity like technology.

The moon god is just the power of knowledge of the universe.
While the Golden Order takes power from the divine, Sorcery is power from the material and knowing how to use it.

The moon isn't a god. And doesn't have any power of knowledge. Ymir tells you that glintstone sorcery is based on the belief that people are made from star dust. The moon isn't even a star. And isn't even the source for glintstone.

Also, how does the Eternal City fit into the Land of Shadows lore? The Numen in Marika's village were all killed so I assume the Numen that went to Nokron are other enclaves that escaped or maybe Numen Marika saved? Does Nokron even predate the events of Marika's ascension?

Marika didn't shed any of that. Maybe symbolically? We don't get a play-by-play of her path but Godwyn's death is what pushed her to the shattering so she obviously didn't lose her love, and she only lost one braid as far as mutilation goes. Miquella literally carved off his body parts and emotions. Fricking moron.

but the village reveal makes me think that she really felt something when the golden boy died

her plan was for tarnished (read: (You)) to do the heavy lifting and have Godfrey steal it back at the end to put her back together. you stop getting grace after you burn the tree and Godfrey gets one pointing at you.

That's what I'm saying. Once we burn the tree we stop getting grace because there's only one place we can really go. And just at that one place Godfrey awaits us with grace of his own pointing right at us. Pure kino tbh.

She literally tasked Hewg to make a god-killing weapon and that for sure wasn't going to be for Godfrey.

She put Godfrey there as one final challenge for the Tarnished. Look. If she expected Hodfrey to do shit then she didn't need to call the rest of us.

We are literally Godfrey's army. Their real mistake was not using us as an army but as individuals.

Her original plan was to rebel against the Greater Will and have Godfrey, a Tarnished, to kill a weakened Elden Beast after she cracked the ring and incapacitated herself.
          That was her original plan.
Instead, Ranni murdered Godwyn and Marika flipped the table in a fit of rage. She wasn't thinking anything at that point.

              Rebelling against Greater Will: Hewg
Godfrey being the plan: The Melina dialogues saying she both sent him away and told him she would then bring him back intentionally
Marika REEEing instead of proceeding with this plan: Gideon's final dialogue/lore, I can't quite remember.

So what was the "seduction and betrayal" in reference to Marika at the start of the story trailer?

Okay, loregays. Any idea what's up with this?
There's a random shed snake skin up north of Bonny Village.
I can only assume this is somehow tied to Messmer, right? Why is it just randomly there? There's no item or interaction with it.

was there always a tree then or something? when exactly did fingers crash land?

the dragons didnt seem to worshio a tree and we known placidusax was an elden lord at that point even before the hornsent

Metyr is the first shooting star so it was a loooooonnngg time ago, maybe even before the Elden Beast

Dunno. The Farum Azula form of the ELden Ring looks still like roots and whatnot. Though I don't think there's any tree imagery there directly.
Then at some point after, the Hornsent have the spiral as their general symbol, and I think that's the Crucible as their patron.
THen we get Marika and the Erdtree right after.

The Crucible and Placidusax predate the Erdtree. Marika's age is called "The Age of the Erdtree" in game.

the crucible and the erdtree are made of the same stuff.
      >A vestige of the crucible of primordial life. Born partially of devolution,it was considered a signifier of the divine in ancient times, but is now increasingly disdained as an impurity as civilization has advanced.

      >Greatsword of Ordovis, one of the two honored as foremost among the Crucible Knights.
      >This sword is imbued with an ancient holy essence.
      >Its red tint exemplifies the nature of primordial gold, said to be close in nature to life itself.

      >Siluria's Tree, weapon of one of the two honored as foremost among the Crucible Knights.
      >The primordial form of the Erdtree is close in nature to life itself, and this spear, modeled on its crucible, is imbued with ancient holy essence.

So how does the time line work?

        Pre-Historic Era:
        >Fingers
        >Elden Beast
        >Crucible???
        Ancient Era:
        >Dragons
        >Beastmen
        >Star Worship
        >Fire Giants
        >Deathrite Birds
        >Hornsen?
        >Numen?

I imagine the fingers came with the Elden Beast tbh. We know the Beast was the falling star but we also know Metyr isn't a crazy liar, it just didn't get any further orders after being sent here. If they're both from the GW they both probably came together. I also imagine them not receiving orders could recontextualize the Beast itself but I don't really care to think about the how.

The name "crucible" implies a hierarchy of strength in which humans probably would be low tier compared to dragons and omen by and large. I don't think it was actually that long ago relatively and I absolutely believe that was placidusax's era and directly preceded the Erdtree era.

And what about Nokron and the "ancient" culture in Sofria river? Nokron is obviously younger but the other one?

I think they were always underground and mostly unaffected by what happened above. You know, until they started summoning fricking meteor demons, then people started wanting them dead. I'll go as far as to say they were probably underground because of that hierarchy of strength and just persisted into the new era.

There were probably two Numen factions that stayed up above eventually getting wrapped up with the Hornsen and the other stayed below when they found the Nox.

Anyway I still wonder how the timeline works.
              When did Numen pop up?
              Was Radagon always there?
Who was the Elden Lord when the Hornsen ruled?

                Anonymous

Why do you think the Nox were Numen? I understood that theory before but they've been cleanly separated now. We know the Numens were the humans from that central area and the Nox were the underground ones. I still think the Nox turned into the Carians in the end.
                >Was Radagon always there?
Is there a single word about him in the DLC?
                >Who was the Elden Lord when the Hornsen ruled?
                Placidusax

            Perhaps it's more
            >Metyr lands first
            >Grows fingers, manipulates Marika
            >Erdtree growing, things good
            >Marika starts being uppity
            >GW sends down the Elden Beast to keep things in check
            >Cuts off Metyr cause EB is the new sheriff in town

              Anonymous

I could believe that but we know the falling star came before Marika's ascent. I'm still unsure if he's the ring or the "primordial ooze" that makes the tree and crucible tho.
