I'm literally watching Lirik right now and haven't played a video game in months

Income has surpassed product value. The regular consumer won't be able to tell for a while, but it's becoming clearer every day. This has happened in many industries through the ages and it always ends the same way.

      >Products are good
      >Attracts people to the hobby
      >Product quality deteriorates
      >People forced to accept low quality product or give up their hobby
It happened with music, it happened with film, now it's happening with video games

The industry is dead, selling shovelware to braindead normalgays doesn't make it alive

      >it always ends the same way.
      Hows that?

Back in 2006 i remember having deadlines for games, because i rented them i only had like a week to beat it so it gave me the insentive to go out and complete it, the satisfaction upon doing so was great. If you look at achievements for games, most people can’t even beat the normal difficulty option, they have to play on easy, and virtually nobody plays on a level above normal. Back in the 90s-early 00s most games required walkthrough guides but they weren’t available unless you had really shitty dialup internet. So beating games was a genuine challenge, what people consider hard “dark souls” was significantly easier than the average snes/ps1 game

Want more homosexual troony? The only outlier is drakengard / nier which boasts a insane 49-50% average. Everything else hovers around 10-25%, what they do now is remove difficulty trophies and combine tnem so you can’t see how many beat it on the beginner / easy mode, inflating the percentage

And how many people actually completed games during fifth generation or before? And single player games were MUCH shorter and more expensive than they are today. For example, I finished easily more than half of PSX games yet find a lot of new "finishable" games to be boring, padded and bloated.

Yes, and if given thought, the relationship of this phenomena is pretty linear.
'Gamers' as a group, historically, have been counter-culture. Gaming was an isolationist hobby for rejects, nerds, losers, shut-ins, etc. I say so with a sense of meaning, not demeaning. As a collective, that its the core identity of the classical gamer.
So, it only leaves to make sense that as 'gaming' as a hobby collects more mainstream appeal and participation, that gamers, a identified/identifying group of would be non-populars, continue to grow in dispopularity as they remain as this irremovable rock, a proverbial cancer one might say, at the very core the now mainstream 'gaming hobby'. This is certainly not aided by the fact that contemporary self-styled gamers have taken it to heart to be aggressively presenting counter-culture, and push forth 'deep-cutting' counter-culture ideas as part of their identity (racism, sexism, perversism, etc.).
This post must seem terribly left-leaning, but I'm actually just writing it straight.

      Well, duh.
Do you honestly think the hundreds of millions of PS4s and Xbones, and dozens of millions of PS5s and XSXs are being used to play all kinds of different games?
No, people are spending $500 to have a COD/GTA/sports machine, and they'll buy two games every year that are COD and sports.

What do you think the PS4's attach rate looks like if you remove all the Call of Duty, FIFA and Madden?

The actual meaningful "core" gaming audience, the kind of people that own multiple platforms and buy multiple games a year that aren't just dudebro shit and cinematic experiences and an overhyped open world game? That market hasn't grown meaningfully since the 90s and probably isn't bigger than 10 million.

Budgets outpaced this "real" market and killed the A-AA industry with the 360/PS3, and now that they're straining under their own weight and desperately scrambling for other revenue sources like aftermarket microtransactions, subscriptions, battle passes, and even Sony doing hail mary PC ports, even the biggest publishers have to reckon with the fact that emperor has no clothes.

Awful copypasta back to the drawing board.

There hasn't been a big budget blockbuster release that wasn't a broken mess or a huge disappointment for like the last 3 or 4 years. Even games like Elden Ring that sell well don't have the mass appeal of GTA. The last big year for games was 2018.
