I always used Astarion Lae and Minthara but i tend to replace Astarion with Jaheira because she is nice and older women make me feel a tingly feeling on my crotch
Really only doable during the mid-game.
Most gates are Medium Toughness, and doing more than 20 bludgeoning damage early game is really difficult without burning buffs, and even then not trivial for most builds.
He's one of the most indispensible party members purely from being a lockpicking monkey.
Everyone else can reasonably be rotated through, but Astarion basically has to always be there unless the PC is a Rouge.
Yeah i will explain.
I used Astarion a bit but my character was a ranger, and Astarion was a rogue, i felt i didnt need him in the party most of the time.
I preferred Laezel/Karlach, Shadowheart and Gale over him.
Astarion will be good for an evil playthrough, a core member of the party.
After i recruited the Druid i also had more fun with him than Astarion so his priority went down.
Druids are a fun class.
>holds a knife to your throat when you meet him >my character leaves. >later doing clean-up of quests after getting many of the party members >hes still standing on the beach >shadowheart got up and went to the druid grove >laezel went and got killed by her people >ok astarion you're clearly retarded I will invite you to camp
walk into swamp >man appears and says astarion is a vampire >no reason to like him so I tell vampire hunter where astarion is >"astarion has permanently left the party."
I also told Gale he couldn't eat all my items and he should look for some of his own, so he left. the Drow girl attacked me when I went to that fort so I killed her.
>lae'zel forces her way into my party >rescue shadowheart and she immediately acts racist >see shadowheart on beach, don't wake her up >don't see Lae'zel, just genuinely miss her location >astarion tries to stab me so leave him >see wyll fight the goblins, I took potshots for exp but didn't go into the grove >continue to sneak my way north west since I can hardly solo any encounters. >welp this way is blocked by dragon might as well go back >Meet Karlach, she is genuinely nice and polite, invites herself to my party >Wyll shows up after a long rest to confront her, they sort their shit out without my input >Now I have 3 party members and can actually do things >Now I'll go look at the grove since Wyll cares. >find Gale >he insults me as soon as starts talking >why can't he find this shit himself if he's so great >see shadowheart in the grove, she's a bitch but she can travel with me >fuck yeah full party >proceed to continue the game >oh Laezel is dead, but scroll of revivify actually works, she can join as well.
The game doesn't actually give you a reason to care about anything if you don't know DnD lore.
I decided to take up the drow siblings on their offer of a foursome and I brought Astarion as my wingman. I was expecting that I would fuck the sister while Astarion fucked the brother, and I thought this would be shown in one of the game's graphic sex scenes. What happens instead is that the screen fades to black and the narrator provides a description of the incident. It's somewhat vague, but it sounds like Astarion takes on the role of a fuckboi and hops around the bed pleasuring all present with his orifices, the player character included. So it was a bit gayer than what I had in mind. Still, it was less gay than the incubus scene at the House of Hope, where I went directly afterwards.
>Still, it was less gay than the incubus scene at the House of Hope, where I went directly afterwards
bruh you can ask the thing to turn into a hot female...
I did, but it still had Raphael's face. Before that change, it presents itself as a louche, seedy male prostitute and this was the impression that stuck in my mind.
Astarion is a character that only appeals to people who have a being raped fetish.
On good playthroughs he is an evil, selfish dickhead who assaults you in your sleep. If you let him live why the fuck would you actually take him with you? He complains about literally everything you do.
On an evil playthrough evil, selfish dickhead who assaults you in your sleep and you have no reason not to kill him right there and then.
Frog, Astarion, Shadowheart is *the* party but sometimes I like switching them around especially to do everyone's story missions. Gale got pretty frequent use too as the pinch hitter
Jaheira is a good tour guide for the city, knowing all the local characters as she does, and her reminiscences on the old days furnish BG3 with a palpable connection to the previous games in the series - especially if you're playing as Durge.
Shadowheart loses all her personality and emotional strength in act 3 if you take her good path. She’s way more interesting and mentally strong as Shar’s chosen. The way certain scenes are written seems to make more sense as Shar’s chosen too, like they wrote that part first, and made her good selune angle fit in afterward.
>first playthrough my party is >Frog, Astarion, Shadowheart >ok now ill do an evil playthrough with the evil companions >Frog, Astarion, Shadowheart
oh...
You've got the option of Minthara for your evil playthrough, and you could see Gale's quest to become a god as a sort of "dark side" route for his character.
The game throwing all 3 shithead companions at you first, does make that a bit of trouble.
It is basically true that players will always use the first teammates they meet the most.
If you don't play an evil Durge or other evil playthrough first, you'll probably accidentally find yourself doubled-up on companions between your first and second goes, despite the wide variety given.
Minthara being fairly empty of deeper content is part of the problem. It isn't like you can drop Shadowheart for her or something, and feel satisfied.
That's not true. When you go to Cazador's dungeon, you can talk to the captives who were lured there by Astarion. One of them is a man who says that on the night of his abduction, Astarion had taught him how to kiss. In addition to this, if you take Astarion with you to have sex with the drow twins, Astarion will sexually pleasure the male drow, not just the player character.
Halsin is a side character that they introduced in the early access and the homosexuals liked him so much they demanded him be a companion and the result is a completely half assed companion that nobody but fags asked for
>Well if you already hate him so early, then you certaily wont like his act 3 version.
what are you talking about?
I love Halsin in act 3, he exists so the people I care about don't get abducted by Orin
>+13 on Stealth rolls >give him a ring that has Pass Without Trace, so it gets boosted to +23 >cast Greater Invisibility on him >proceed to hang back while he solos anything that doesn't force the entire party into combat
Absolute lad
the actor is married to a woman and has at least 1 child. The voice is just ye olde powerful english flamboyant vamp. Cazador speaks pretty much the same way
I talked to Wyll after every significant event and I learned that he doesn't have a single interesting line of dialogue. Neither does Karlach, I'm entirely puzzled by the popularity she enjoys here.
Wyll is interesting to have in Act 3 and in Act 2 if you melt Myzora. Karlach has the best VA, best reactions and she is the only non-mentally ill companion.
Also they're both great in combat.
>Karlach >Shadowheart >Lae'zel >rotating other companions for their respective quests and areas of interest, i.e. taking Astarion to face Cazador or Jaheira to face Minsc
he's a gay
As soon as I heard he talking and I saw his backstory I lost all the will to play this game.
>Care to explain. darling?
?si=baSlyAeGqqKnGhIc
For me its
>Frog
>Asty
>Shart (later replaced by Minthy)
This is objectively best comp for the entire game
Oh god, my trypophobia!
heh
I always used Astarion Lae and Minthara but i tend to replace Astarion with Jaheira because she is nice and older women make me feel a tingly feeling on my crotch
Are they trying to get me into granussy? Because it's working.
imagine the smell
Always have him on my party, those locks ain't gonna pick themselves
hulk smash puny lock
Really only doable during the mid-game.
Most gates are Medium Toughness, and doing more than 20 bludgeoning damage early game is really difficult without burning buffs, and even then not trivial for most builds.
beeline the grymforge and get an adamantine weapon
Astarions an awesome character, but any character with 18 dex works almost as well as thief for that.
dont like poofs, simple as
I found him to be annoying and I was already a rouge.
I did don't worry. Hes my husband and a killing machine
he complains when you kill the selune priest
Well, you have to anyway. You should bring someone who can unlock shit and he's simply the best fit unless you want to fill that role yourself
>>>/vg/
He's one of the most indispensible party members purely from being a lockpicking monkey.
Everyone else can reasonably be rotated through, but Astarion basically has to always be there unless the PC is a Rouge.
i just chose charlatan as my background on my sorcerer and went through the game just fine
Yeah i will explain.

bloodsucking demon
My party is females only (with the exception of my OC of course)

Damn, somehow you've managed to be a total autist even in a video game.
How does that feel?
You got the Kenji ending in Katawa Shojo too, didn't you?
>lae'zel forces her way into my party

rogues are ass
no homos allowed

op confirmed homosexual
I'm not a childless millennial woman.
I need an astarion bf
Astarion is a character that only appeals to people who have a being raped fetish.

I killed him like any sane person would
Frog, Astarion, Shadowheart is *the* party but sometimes I like switching them around especially to do everyone's story missions. Gale got pretty frequent use too as the pinch hitter
>Frog, Astarion, Shadowheart is *the* party
That's true in Acts 1 & 2, but I think Jaheira is more appropriate companion than Shadowheart during Act 3.
Counterpoint: Jaheira is a fucking cunt.
fuck you naggers you spoiled me Jaheira joins the party
Counterpoint: Jaheira is awful, druid sucks
Jaheira is a good tour guide for the city, knowing all the local characters as she does, and her reminiscences on the old days furnish BG3 with a palpable connection to the previous games in the series - especially if you're playing as Durge.

ACSHULLY, it's Karlach, Shadowheart and Astarion - canon party.
I think its those three plus gale and no player character for the true party. Laezel origin story.
My main party indded is:
>me mage
>Astarion
>Shadowheart
>the Frog
>Tries to attack me in my sleep
No. I kicked him the fuck out.
he disapproves of virtually everything that you do
I'm not gay.
How do gay anons feel about it? Astarion is super gay and verbose, yet he's straight besides player sexual.
Is he a good representation?
>he's straight besides player sexual.
That's not true. When you go to Cazador's dungeon, you can talk to the captives who were lured there by Astarion. I read the first three words then saw Cazador. i'm in act 2. I'm sure you have a lot to say, you might be based too - no.
Not a fan of flamboyant homos irl but sometimes I like them in fiction. Astarion's an entertaining fruit
Astarion is the female equivalent of waifu-bait
He's male Shart, he was not designed for gays, they have Halsin
I haven't played very far into Act 2 but I already hate Halsin. Was Halsin designed to be liked by anybody?
He's a Daddy for gay subs.
Halsin is a side character that they introduced in the early access and the homosexuals liked him so much they demanded him be a companion and the result is a completely half assed companion that nobody but fags asked for
I underestimated how terrible their taste could be.
Welcome to modern CRPGs where the companions are squeezed out of forum posts by gay lobbyists
at least we got Astarion courtesy of the female audience
shows that women have drastically better tastes than gays
Astarion is copy pasted Fane from Divinity original sin 2
Well if you already hate him so early, then you certaily wont like his act 3 version.
>Well if you already hate him so early, then you certaily wont like his act 3 version.

Absolute lad
>wow the voice actor did a goob job impersonating a flamer theater homosexual
>see a video with him
so he wasn't acting huh
The first step to being a good voice actor is just having a very unique and 'cinematic' voice.
Act what you know.
the actor is married to a woman and has at least 1 child. The voice is just ye olde powerful english flamboyant vamp. Cazador speaks pretty much the same way
I prefer smacking cunts from up front rather than shanking them from behind and being sneaky cunt
I didn't play the game because it's bad
The sass and douchebaggery gets very old after a while
Heterosexual males have Minthara and Shadowheart
>there are people out there that didn't have SHART in their party 24/7
*sharts*
>pick the "ram a stake through his heart" option, expecting him to block and explain himself
>he just dies
I didn't want to reload.
Annoying, simple as.
Astorian should have been a Drow.
>Karlach
>Wyll/Shadowheart
>Laezael
This is objectively the best comp.
I talked to Wyll after every significant event and I learned that he doesn't have a single interesting line of dialogue. Neither does Karlach, I'm entirely puzzled by the popularity she enjoys here.
Karlach is hot and fits in well with players that are going for good aligned fight-fag campaigns.
Wyll is interesting to have in Act 3 and in Act 2 if you melt Myzora. Karlach has the best VA, best reactions and she is the only non-mentally ill companion.
Also they're both great in combat.
>is the only non-mentally ill companion
>generic danger pixie only buff gym rat
Doesn't disprove my point.
danger pixies are by definition mentally ill
>Puts a knife to your throat
>Tries to bite you
He deserves to for either of those transgressions.
>Karlach
>Shadowheart
>Lae'zel
>rotating other companions for their respective quests and areas of interest, i.e. taking Astarion to face Cazador or Jaheira to face Minsc
