      This
PLA impressed in numerous ways but the most impressive thing was that they had the fricking balls to incorporate the player being damaged by Pokémon attacks to add an element of danger and risk to choosing not to send your Pokémon out. That’s one line I thought they’d never cross

This. And I thought it couldn't get worse, but BDSP proved me wrong. Gen 8 was truly something terrible, wasn't it? It's getting to the point where I'm honestly considering PLA as a Gen 9 title, simply so it doesn't have to be a part of the dumpster fire that was Gen 8.

        >It's getting to the point where I'm honestly considering PLA as a Gen 9 title
It basically is, I think PLA was kinda a sneak peak at the types of changes they’d be willing to implement later down the line. SV contains some of them, and I’m willing to bet the next gen will contain even more

          Hopefully they do adapt more.
Gravel dust/rock was a good mechanic for IV management.
Mandatory Exp share should disable EV gain or replace thw wild battle EV mechanic with an updated super training where you don't have to constantly grind for it repetitevily.
PLA had the best catching mechanic.
LGPE had the best ridemons but the 7th party member on call/summon for transport was a good idea too.
Perhaps we can designate a single mount in future gens.

      Either BDSP or LGPE.

BDSP were remakes that took Pokemon back to what it should have stayed rather than becoming the abomination that it was post-gen 4. It gave a remake that was visually identical in spirit, having chibi overworld graphics with full body battle graphics (just like gens 1-4), and the improvements to it (removal of HMs, grand underground, the new postgame content + improved E4 and champion, following pokemon, EXP share) make it THE way to play Gen 4.

LGPE have the best catching mechanics in the franchise, hands down, and are the best way to play the kanto games now. Unlike the mainline games, where you just mash A to catch a pokemon, there's now actual skill involved (which is why the noskill homosexuals on /vp/ hate it). Any complaints about its easier difficulty can be leveled with no question at every other game in the franchise; pokemon has never and will never be a challenging franchise because it's aimed at kids and general audiences. If you want a game that kicks your ass, pokemon isn't it.

Frick off, clover is steaming dogshit and always has been. It's unfunny, looks uglier than gen 1 (which is impressive), and the regional dex is somehow worse than gen 5's.

Doesn't EXP share cheapen Pokemon though? It means you no longer have to use a pokemon to train it up, instead you just let it sit in the back while and it gets more powerful as your starter carries

          >Doesn't EXP share cheapen Pokemon though?
No, it removes one of the worst parts of any RPG: Grinding. I fricking hate grinding, it's the most obnoxious part of any game and it's why I generally hate turn-based RPGs.
          >It means you no longer have to use a pokemon to train it up
Except I'm going to use it anyway, and if I catch a pokemon later on that's underleveled I don't have to worry about switch training it for 30 hours just to make it usable. It cuts down on grinding and lets me use the team I want. I'm more likely to rotate my team around or swap in new members I want to use as I reach that point in the game rather than stick with the first 6 pokemon I catch.
          >instead you just let it sit in the back while and it gets more powerful as your starter carries
After doing so many randomizers, the starter can very much get shoved in the box most of the time. I've sort of lost my love for starter pokemon anyway, they're all just so bland and boring at this point. The only reason you'd use one in gen 4/BDSP is because you want a fire type, but Sinnoh's gyms don't really require one bar Abomasnow in the ice gym and even then you can get past it with a good fighting type (i.e. Machamp or better yet Toxicroak which has two types that run counter to Abomasnow).

So no, I don't think EXP share is anything but a boon. It makes grinding obsolete and makes me more likely to try pokemon I've never used before.

exp share existed before gen6 you moron.

              Anonymous

I'm well aware, but the closest you could get to the modern EXP share was gen 1's EXP All. Modern EXP share is way better and encourages me to experiment with new pokemon because I don't go "oh man now I have to grind this pokemon 10-15 levels and mix up my entire team for type effectiveness". The removal of HMs only helps in this regard, as you don't have to have an HM slave or teach your pokemon useless shit moves like cut or rock smash.

Certainly not SwSh. That is easily one of the worst switch pokemon, if not overall. I can forgive BDSP as this anon explain and LGPE is nostalgia bait. PLA did something difference and has a great setting while Scarlet has lots of great newmon, story, ost, and etc.

SwSh falls flat on everything. Rival suck, pokemon suck, the league suck, jersey suck, MUHCHARZARD Leon suck, prof suck, story suck, Team suck, Marnie suck, and Pier sabotage everyone just to prmote Marnie was a dick move, oh and LEON SUCK. Frick Leon.

Legends Arceus by far. I'll give LGPE a shoutout for looking the best graphically out of the mainline games on the Switch. Legends is legitimately the most fun I've had with the series in a long time.

In terms of graphics it was Lets Play Eevee/Pikachu... The artstyle was great and the ride pokemon with their great variety looked awesome.
In terms of gameplay and menus it was PLA.
An ideal game would combine those two, add abilities/breeding, more trainer battles and a hard mode.

SwSh. I was impressed by how MUCH the game insisted on making bad decision into bad decision
why is wild area so detached from the main routes
why are the main routes so shit for that matter
why are the starter evos such fricking garbage
    why are raids infinite aids
why does base game lack basic shit like max soup
why is the climax such an amalgation of random shit
why is the regional dex 400-mon long for 100-mon worth of content
why is the online scene poisoned with a mechanic only ever balanced around maingame
The only thing this game improves in is just new QoL shit - the bare minimum
