If you don't like it, then learn to program and make your own game.

The japs did that and there was bitching for a whole two to three months about the UI design, the map design, and quest design from western game devs. Their brains literally imploded because one game wasn't like what they were working on and didn't have the exact same UI and quest design.

The average phoneposter doesn't understand what files are or how images work.

every game has similar UI even if the setting and tone is radically different, so dark fantasy looks the same as sci-fi or more cheery fantasy ala Zelda
there's also the fact that the UI is tonally inconsistent with the games (unless they're sci-fi), since you're looking at a mobile phone's interface in a Nordic fantasy game, so there's a huge tonal whiplash
old games mostly did a better job at making the UI an extension of the game's world itself, by keeping it in line with the visuals of the game proper, rather than having it be separate from it

        >every game has similar UI even if the setting and tone is radically different
because the point of the UI is just to get out of your way and let you manage what you want. same reason i dont want my web browser or taskbar to be filled with unnecessary shit.

also, if an old UI was not fun to use, it made playing the game a fucking nightmare. no longer a problem. also you are nitpicking random obscure intriguing-looking niche cRPGs to pit against average commercial console-tatered aRPG shlock.
plenty of games with cool UI out there. better yet, make your own

You can just tell all of the people who worked on OP pic interfaces came from the same soul-draining UI design class somewhere in Cali.

I hate how menu sound design got so lazy. You used to press a button and the game would make a big clunk like "THUD-CRACK-(echoes)". Noe every time you click something it makes a gay little clean noise like "tsss" as if you're cleaning the screen or something.

    >clean
    >shows both what is equipped, what slots there are, and what is better/worse than your currently equipped item

if I wanted a UI where the game is managing your inventory, i'd play tarkov. why is this a problem?

    >Is there hope for video game UI design?
Yes and no. Like all things it's a matter of trends and when people start to notice it them most devs will redesign UIs to be different.
And then they will all use that new redesign until it becomes tired, people will notice it, and the cycle continues.

It's fine. Progress is not always a good thing if it wasn't broken before.
