Agreed. There's something very special about X, like it's a culmination of all their talents and lessons learned over the years. Probably my favorite in the series.
>>no ix
because ix fucking sucks
in theory it should be good but it's not
it's so fucking slow >nes/snes FF >select attack, character attacks >ffix >wait 3 years for ATB bar to fill >select attack >wait years for others' animations from actions selected years ago play out >then your character finally attacks after you forgot you even selected attack in the first place
not to mention the awful pacing of the story, it takes multiple fucking DISCS for the game to open up.
What you described isn't even the worst part about IX.
The worst is, and what I hope they'll fix for the remake (if that even is ATB-based anymore): >literally ANY other ATB FF with wait mode on >action gets selected (either by PC or enemy) and gets put into action log (e.g., sequence is Cloud-attack, Monster-attack, Yuffie-attack) >game now plays this sequence out no matter what happens, so even if the player enters a menu with the third character and the ATB gets stopped, the queued actions still get executed >this enables you to actually wait out what happens and make a proper action with the third char
>FF IX >action gets selected, game now queues up a WAIT + ACTION sequence >this means that even if no other PC-char queued any action apart from 1 who, e.g., throws a potion, you never really know if the mob would attack just ahead of you or not, maybe wasting the potion (e.g., it now gets thrown on a dead member) >even worse with wait on, because whenever the ATB is stopped in a menu, the action sequence ALSO is stopped >now the third character queues in a potion throw, the action sequence revvs up again, monster kills the pot reciepient, pot and turn is wasted
This is so god damned fucking retarded, literally WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! Made proper ATB combat for 5 games straight, then shit the bed so hard they dropped ATB for CTB for the next entry.
I don't think it ever was but also I'm assuming since Tactics hasn't been remade like all the others most shitposters who make these threads don't give two shits about it
>3
No story, horrible balance and a job system that's a straight downgrade from 5's in every way. 5 made 3 obsolete, there's zero reason to play it.
>4
Absolutely laughable story with so many death fakeouts that all tension just evaporates into the air. Cecil's character arc was compelling at the time, but nowadays game stories are so much better that it just feels basic and stupid, it's finished by the first third of the game and then he's static for the rest.
>5, 6 and 7
All good
>9 and X
Should probably be on the list over 3 and 4, they're not great, but they're good.
>14
Is the best FF these days. The best world, best story, best music, best characters, best villains, best spectacle. There's nothing any of the other games do that 14 doesn't do better- save for 5's Job system, so 5 still remains top tier.
At some point NeverKnowsBest's style began to change, which I didn't like, but he toned it down to what he was like in the beginning. Lately he's been doing good.
At some point NeverKnowsBest's style began to change, which I didn't like, but he toned it down to what he was like in the beginning. Lately he's been doing good.
It's a good video. One of the best about FF series honestly.
Neverknowsbest is kino. I thought he was going to give up after youtube's gay automated system demonetized his videos for no reason, but then he just pumps out a 6 hour FF analysis lol
By the way automated ban systems are fucking cancer. I have never seen them implemented well.
Is this a good place to discuss 8?
I played it a while back and actually liked Squall but the story as a whole was nonsense and not even in a fun way.
Didn't think the draw system was that bad but its hard to get into at first.
The story is a complete nonsense, it lacks like a complete disc worth of story. The junction system was interesting but its implementation is extremely janky.
>The junction system was interesting but its implementation is extremely janky
Yeah I always ran into the issue of wanting to use spells I had already junctioned and didn't want to lower my stats too much
Unironcally, stop being an autist.
The stat difference of having a full stack or just 80 of a spell junctioned isn't that big and most spells are really easy to come by.
Squall has an okay core and basic conceit. A deeply insecure guy that desperately tries to appear cool and aloof in a bid to repulse others and seem self assured, not at the least due to his chosen occupation and general abandonment issues? Sure, sounds good.
The problem lies not really with him, but with the rest of the cast (ESPECIALLY Rinoa), the way the story shakes out, the way the romance is written, the way the story is told, even, etc.
Then you add in very divisive core systems and you end up with a game many love to hate - and fairly so.
I'll give 8 this, though: It has okay side content, which already means its way better on that front than 7 or even 10 (mostly).
who the fuck thinks VII is good?
I must be people who have never actually played it. I'm currently playing it and after an omegakino first part it falls so fucking hard after Midgar and becomes a boring piece of shit that makes little sense and never recovers
It can't recover. One main reason is that the game is astonishingly fucking ugly, its definitely one of the worst looking games I've ever played with the blocky models with limited movement, untextured low poly enemies and shitty backgrounds. In midgard the enviorements and art direction was very interesting and unique, but once I moved to generic fields, mountains, caves and so on it was just very shit
And then the story has fallen appart too much and I lost a lot of interest. Imma bout wake up Cloud from his comma, we'll see
Gameplay wise I can't comment, but this is the third time I tried to play the game and I'm finally going to stick with it, the previous two I lost interest because the game was excessively easy and braindead, so I didn't go past rocket town, I hated it so much, so I'm instead playing the New Threat mode and I find it more enjoyable
I know, I know
but I'm liking the gameplay a lot. Building characters to be more different and the increase difficulty, without being hard type niggechud shit, is very welcomed. Vanilla FF7 is just fucking braindead
Every one of your complaints is a thing that you knew going in. It’s a jarpig that came out 25 years ago, it’s not going to hold up graphically or gameplay wise to anything in the last decade or more and no JRPG in existence is difficult.
You sound like the kind of gay who would go to a restaurant and order a cheeseburger with mustard even though you don’t like mustard, and then shit and piss yourself with rage screaming at everyone you can find that the restaurant serves a terrible burger because they put mustard on it.
>Every one of your complaints is a thing that you knew going in
don't assume shit because I went in with an open mind. Even if it was true how the fuck would that be an excuse to remove the criticism?
moron Seiken densetsu 3 and legend of mana hold up and so do almost Squaresoft titles on the SNES like FFVI and Chrono Trigger, are you fucking implying the dumbshit of "the game is just fucking old and looks bad because its fucking old and you just don't like that its fucking old!". It just looks really fucking bad even for the year and plataform it was on, no excuses. I hate VIII more and it has aged tremendously better, and IX even more so

And yes, I did like 16. Its about a hundred times better than that hunk of dogshit 8. and I'd say it's far more enjoyable than 7, as well.
Nobody played 5 because it was for japs only. 10 too gay to be good and had the worst mini game in its underwater sports ball. It also doesnt shock me at all that someone whos only criticism is nostalgia likes some slop just because its new.

You dumb bitch can you even follow the argument? I AM one of those "16 sloppers" and 5 is a far superior asme to 7 or 8 and I like it quite a bit.
I doubled down on my "non critique" because your own judgment on the games is clearly dependent on what you played in your youth and not even on some misguided >old = good, new = bad
bullshit, since your response to my question about 5 was >well it wasn't localized back then 🙁
instead of any any tangible actual critique, so you only don't like it because you've got no nostalgia for it.
Also that isn't even an excuse anymore, you could play it RIGHT NOW you dipshit.

Lol you dumb cunt fellating 7, 8 and 9 no matter their quality (especially 7) is a sign of that ebil snoyism. Or what, are you that much of a fake old fag to not know about the nintentoddler fallout over the console / platform switch?
Also you don't have any actual argument or anything to say about that FF5 thing, huh? Guess I figured you out. Go back to reveling in the memories lf your childhood, anon. That seems to be all you're good at.
I just replayed the first 6 through the pixel remasters an i have ti say 1,3 and 5 really are the best of the bunch.
They each just feel like a natural evolution of the former. They're enjiyable as fuck, have a fair amount of replayabilty and are just the right length.
2, 4 and 6 feel much more experimental, with 4 being the most solid imo. 2 is mechanically messsy and goes completely overboard with the status ailment while 6 is just too bloated with characters and is poorly paced.
They're actually known as the prelude to the good FF games.
Japan, the home of FF and superior Japanese gamers, disagrees.
I actually 100% agree with the Japanese fans for once. Would be my exact top 5 in order.
have a nice day xievebro

FF9 is the easiest to fix it doesnt need a weird remake like ff7, just make the graphics look good, add voices and make the combat faster
is tactics considered a mainline game now? why no mention of tactics advance?

I’m mad about Ms Tokimiya
