It's gone too far. People are casually saying Gen 2 is the worst, when everything past Gen 5 exists? Like, what the fuck? Not only that, but Gen 1 is OBJECTIVELY worse than Gen 2, and people are still calling Gen 2 the worst? We need a purge.
These games are way too hated now.

johto fucking sucks dude
yeah, so gen 6 is the best right?
meds
Oh look, another autist who sees a few posts spewing shit opinions, takes it at face value, thinks everyone feels this way, and cries about it in a new thread. have a nice day, anonchan. These games are fine.
>but Gen 1 is OBJECTIVELY worse than Gen 2
No it fucking isn't kek, kys zoomer, gen 2 is a step down from 1 in every single way, except for playtime which 2 does "better" in by having bloated """"content"""" for padding to disguise how shitty the game is
Gen 2 was the beginning of the end and everyone knew it, hence why Crystal is the worst selling third game and you saw the impact of quality degeneration hit massively the next gen
Gen 2 is amazing. In the last couple of years, there's been a zoomer/autist guerrilla campaign to demoralize gen 2 fans since it was held as the best for over a decade. The heaps of praise that HGSS received was too much to bear for these turbo-nerds and, indignant, they began a war against gen 2.
The only people I have seen genuinely hate on gen 2 are HGSSfags. Most people who don't have to defend a shit game easily acknowledge that gen 2 is great.
>these games are way too hated
If anything there isn't enough hate. If johto ever actually loses it popularity, we might finally get rid of schizos like
And be able to talk about the games without it devolving into screaming buzzwords.
Shills for new gens needed to scapegoat older games to deflect from the flaws of nu-pokemon, and they can't target Gen1 because that would imply that there is a problem with all the current GenWun pandering, so Gen 2 gets all the blame due to being the oldest gen without first-installment privilege. And because most pokemon fans are ultra casuals with no frame of refence they take everything the shills say at face value, so shills are free to rewrite history by exaggerating Gen 2 flaws and erasing everything positive Gen 2 brought.
Does Gen 2 have flaws like every other Pokemon game? Yes
Are there certain differences in Gen 2's design philosophy that some Pokemon fans would have genuine issues with without having to be told to hate Gen 2? Yes
Are there things about Gen 2 that even some Gen2/Johto fans would change despite having the games as their favorites? Yes
Are the games "the worst"? Fuck no.
>Gen 1 is OBJECTIVELY worse than Gen 2
have a nice day
West Kanto has the worst starters in the franchise and terrible design that discourages you from raising a full team, which you have to do if you were the poor soul that chose Chikorita since the region hates Grass types.
As the pinnacles of the series, nugen fans have to tear them down to justify the fact that they won't play them. There's also been a concentrated effort by TPC and shills to downplay Gen 2 because they hate comparisons overshadowing future gens
The only people who hate them are zoomers who think that Pokémon games are meant to be bossrushes you can binge in a couple of afternoons before you spend 300 hours shiny hunting.
GSC and HGSS literally become boss rushes once to go to a stripped down Kanto and fight against all the gym leaders again.
Nope because one of the biggest complaints from nugenners is that the OP Dark type mons Houndoom and Tyranitar aren't available until after you beat the E4. Evolution stones being one per game and only in Kanto is a legitimate complaint about GS, but saving pseudos and a few other rare mons until the postgame is just a design choice to keep the challenge fair. Being able to catch your endgame team full of broken mons right off the bat is something that only started in the 3DS and Switch games.
Also a lot of the newly typed mons are either very rare or saved for the late game due to their powerful nature. OG Pokemon games were designed more like other RPGs with some types being strong and others weak. Dark and Steel were the Psychic and Dragon killers so they were rare.
Plus a lot of the new mons were also supposed to be "newly discovered," hence why they were often rare
I'm not a nuzlock fag, but isn't that another reason why they hate older gens? Because they can't "roll" for good team members until they progress past the first gym? No shit the Route 1 bugs and rodents aren't good. You're supposed to use them until they evolve, and then box them before the third gym. It's only in newer games where everything has to be "viable" in some way, and Route 1 has four or five different types available to make up for the starters you didn't pick.
No it's not. Just because they share different design sensibilities with the nugens doesn't make them bad
>Gen 1 is OBJECTIVELY worse than gen 2
It's not "objectively" worse. Let's say a player has ranked gen 2 at 200 quality points and gen 1 at 100 quality points. However, this player HATES Qwilfish's design. The inclusion of Qwilfish, in this player's mind, is worth -1,000,000 quality points. Now gen 2 is sitting at -999,800 quality points to gen 1's 100. That's a subjective opinion and not inherently invalid.
OP, you need to realize that you’re sharing this website with subhumans who were born after 9/11. Their opinions do not matter.
Same poster here, sorry my parents didn't beat my ass when I was a kid properly. That's why I am such a fucking nostalgia gay. I apologize.
it will fade. its zoomers riding the trend wave. just chill out. who cares kids dont like johto right now lol. like yeah it can be annoying but whatever. you act like that makes the games vanish.
Only zoomers who get their opinions from Youtubers hate Johto
I hate Johto because its fans are wannabe Genwunners and throw tantrums when they aren't pandered to see others criticize their heavily flawed games.
Johto itself is kino. which is why HGSS are held extremely high regard and go for insane prices on the used market. GSC are aesthetically pleasing but filled with flaws
>but filled with flaws
where
Over there!
Unfortunately, a generation has past and that's all it takes to revise history. Especially now when so few people now how to think for themselves. They're either delusional or sheep.
I miss the days when the people who hated gen 2 were people who hated everything after gen 1.
Gen 2 is the worst of the ‘good’ games.
It’s still nice but there’s many things holding it back
Wrong gay
After playing crystal I can easily say it sucked. I played it some odd years back on virtual console so I dont remember too much, but it was mainly the level curve. Felt like even tho you traveled alot and did gyms your pokemon barely grew, and you often stuck with shitty moves because gen 2 mons had utter crap move pools for no reason.
>hey, I should use a Pinec-
>NOOOOOO WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO ACTUALLY PUT EFFORT INTO MY POKEMON INSTEAD OF BEING HANDED 120 BP STABS AT LV30 LIKE MY HECKIN GEN 5 GAMES?
>People are casually saying Gen 2 is the worst
I mean, that's a fair assertion. Most people who think it's good are remembering hgss
I thought Gen 2 was good when it was new. Definite upgrade over Gen 1, lots of comfy adventuring and much more to do, especially the inclusion of a day / night cycle. Gen 3 was when I dropped the series for awhile, since it didn't do much of anything interesting mechanically and like half the map was just surfing.
HGSS by contrast didn't do much different or better from everything else before or after. They're not bad games, and I like them for being remakes of Gen 2, but they're nowhere near as good as the originals compared to improvements vs their contemporaries, relatively speaking.
>since it didn't do much of anything interesting mechanically
>the biggest mechanical leap forward in any pokemon game to date
>tons of new mechanics and a new battle mode
>nothing interesting
You zoomers man.
Yeah, it wasn't interesting that I couldn't bring my pals from RBY/GSC and the only improvement was graphics. There was literally nothing new in the adventuring department, no new mechanics aside from diving, which was just an extension to surfing, and the contests which was like some girly celebrity pageantry bullshit. It wasn't until Platinum that they tried something cool with alternate dimensions and all that, and that's when I started playing again.
Gen 3 is honestly the worst, most boring generation. Everything changed from the originals in the remakes was definitely for the better.
Gen 3 introduced abilities which were a huge deal.
Maybe for competitive, but I just played for the exploration and to kill time by grinding.
In fact, competitive is why breeding is being phased out now because autists can't stop themselves hacking in the perfect tool to win. You know, breeding, which was introduced in Gen 2. Amazing how much Gen 3 fucked everything up so much and the aftershocks are still being felt.
It's not Gen 3's fault that GameFreak couldn't be bothered to make breeding easier instead of outright removing day cares like they've done with other features.
>every genwar thread boils down to "if only GF weren't so shit"
Guess that's all there is to it then. Oh well.
>Maybe for competitive
It was a pretty big deal in game since a lot of abilities also had overworld effects too and it also made the game somewhat harder than the previous two.
>and the only improvement was graphics
Yeah no.
>revamped EV/IV system
>natures
>abilities
>doubles
>box revamp + pokemon automatically being stored in the next box when the current is full
>Contests
>bases
>Berry growing
Most fans noticed these things back then because of how obvious it was.
>Berry growing
That was Gen 2. Apparently you never played it.
I'm pretty sure you could only harvest berries and not grow them. There was also a very limited selection compared to what Gen 3 offered.
It's always the people who get things wrong
No, Berry growing was not in fact in gen 2. You're confusing that with the Berry trees in gen 2.
You couldn't plant them.
You couldn't water them.
You couldn't increase your yield.
NTA and most of your points are valid but
>revamped EV/IV system
>natures
These weren’t really improvement, if anything they made it harder for mixed attackers
>berry growing
Not really much better than just picking Berries like in Gen2.
>These weren’t really improvement, if anything they made it harder for mixed attackers
That's the result of the special split in gen 1.
>Not really much better than just picking Berries like in Gen2.
Anon, it's vastly superior.
In gen 2 apricorn trees all had a strict once per day regen with a yield of 1 berry/corn.
In gen 3, most basic berries are 12 hours and watering them Increases their yield.
If there's one thing I find odd it's that it happened around gen 8. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the games are perfect, but I don't get how anyone could put anything below SwSh.
>it happened around gen 8.
It's been way longer than that like 2006 longer with a resurgence in defence forces with HGSS.
Basically this
Gen8 was so bad people like Joe had real defense for it so they had to start scapegoating Gen 2 and Johto.
We’re taking about Johto starters not West Kanto’s starters
>johto hates grass types
Highly exaggerated, only 3 gym leaders can be said to hate grass types (Falkner, Bugsy, Morty, for all others Chikorita is neutral/equal at worst)
Elite 4 is anti- grass but that’s an issue with most elite 4 due to grass having so many disadvantages.
Expressing disappointment that Pokémon you like are being excluded is hardly a “tantrum”
>it happened around gen 8
The only difference around gen 8 was Johto fans becoming obsessed with their most recent boogeyman.
you share a board with zoomer trannies born in 2003 who think gen 5 is good
>People don't like Gen 2? Conspiracy!!
vp is truly a bubble, hmm?
