So, Sony are the reason MS botched the XB1's launch? Not, MS, who said "Not happy? Play the 360," "It won't play preowned games," and "It always has to be online."

Nobody said the XB1 launch was Sony's fault. They are on top yet they still do underhanded deals to straight up block multiplats on Xbox like they own them. And people act like it is fair until MS turns it around and suddenly taking multiplats is not fair anymore. MS can rightfully take Starfield and Sony took FF7-16. It is not the matter of ownership as mainline FF games are forever blocked from Xbox consoles because the market leader said so. In Sony blocking a proven and popular franchise is even worse because all that Starfield has is its name only so far. If it bombs then Xbox "stole" nothing from Playstation while Sony stole the most popular JRPGs the same.

microsoft bought a publishing company along side bethesda, called zenimax. While it is still up to microsoft at the end of the day, zenimax is its own company and they've always gone the multiplat route. there's no way they leave that much money on the table for a shitty bethesda game.

If you think Zenimax doesn't directly answer to MS execs then you're completely delusional
Sure Zenimax would handle the day-to-day but big decisions like target platforms would absolutely be dictated by MS, if that wasn't the case MS wouldn't have bothered buying them.
Microsoft's obvious end goal is to vacuum up as many companies as possible in preparation for the eventual streaming-only game ecosystem that all major game companies are gearing towards.

They paid a lot of money to develop games for Sony and Nintendo devices. They have to hire experts at using their devkits and everything that goes along with advertising and working with these other companies. do you not know how companies work? they didn't just fire everyone at zenimax (which is in maryland btw) and fill it with microsoft drones. Yes, the corporate structure has changed and the decisions are being made, in a macro sense, by microsoft. but if they show they can make 200 million dollars by doing what they already have been doing, will MS say no? we will see but I don't think Bethesda is going to be exclusive to microsoft for a lot of reasons. It's going to hurt zenimax and bethesda more in the long run to descale from porting to playstation consoles. Microsoft can say whatever they want but spreadsheets aren't going to lie. if they dont' rake in a return, "exclusivity" is going to turn into "timed-exclusivity" within a few weeks.

there's 5000 comments, that's not enough data to say it's going to sell more than 5000 copies. maybe I'm wrong and Todd pulls off another victory out of thin air. I just don't see it. The gameplay trailer betrayed Fallout 4 in space to my eyes. I get keeping games like Hi-Fi Rush out of sony's hands because that's what sony does and it makes sense. but removing a huge profit margin just sounds ludicrous to me. I don't think exclusives help sony that much either which is why I'm currently playing all of their garbage on steam nowadays.

You're so disconnected from the average consumer. Starfield will have a near perfect marketing rollout. Followed by special early access for streamers/reviewers/etc .... aka even more perfect marketing drops. The hype will be absolutely insane, not to mention they'll using msft 365 enterprise apps to push that astroturfing even harder.

People will consume, and all in all it will probably be a good game as Todd wants it and ES6 has his magnum opus, since word is after those he'll retire.

the average vidya consumer plays candy crush on their iphone and fifa on their stolen ps3 in turkmenistan. they'll have a big rollout but they aren't making huge profits from their xbox consoles and gamepass is a money pit so that leaves PC as their main money maker and ofc it will do well on PC. but snoys are the ones who buy the physical console games. this shit is going to turn into timed-exclusivity by the end of the year and whoops it's now coming to ps5. I think they just want to negotiate with sony and are saying stupid shit to get their consumers to put pressure on playstation to make a deal. that's my read, maybe I'm wrong. MS knows this and I suspect it has nothing to do with homosexual console wars like you xboners are salivating over, it's just a negotiating tactic. and I dont' think it's going to work out for MS at all. I think Starfield is going to flop, I think bethesda is in the dumps at this point after FO76 fiasco and all the good will is gone. maybe I'm wrong and MS can keep it exclusive and it pulls everyone in to buying a gamepass subscription. seems doubtful to me.

Starfield isn't going to be anything like No Man's Sky simply because Starfield is using the same gimpy and archaic engine that Bethesda has been using for two decades that still has the same bugs in it since the very beginning. For that fact alone, and the fact that Bethesda will undoubtedly reuse assets from Skyrim and Fallout 4 such as textures, models, and animations with slight changes to them so that they are in keeping with the overall theme of Starfield, there is no question that Starfield is going to be yet another boring shitty shallow offering from Bethesda designed exclusively to appeal to the most casual of casual gamers.

Bloodborne is the real crime, it didn't even get a patch for PS4 pro, let alone a PS5 re-release so you're stuck with 1080p and a shaky 30fps with dips as the only way to play it. Sony has been putting games on PC left and right but not a single word about BB, and Sony closed down Japan Studio so realistically if it did get another release it would be a dogshit bluepoint remake that's not worth playing.
At least with FFXVI you know that it's definitely getting a native PC version down the line.

Yes, but SNoy drones rather make it into an east vs. west thing because then they can be super vague about what the frick they are upset about.
Sony has, as a business model, gatekept IPs and exclusive content away from Xbox for an eternity, I really don't give a shit if Microsoft turns around and does the same to them now while Nintendo and Microsoft stay on friendly terms.

Maybe Sony should have taken the contractual obligation for 10 years of CoD when it was on the table then instead of a failed crybaby lawsuit, huh?

  23. 1 year ago

Is Sony run by politicians or something? This is pure doublethink garbage, Microsoft was never obligated nor offered Sony anything from Bethesda. Sony had the chance to secure through legal agreement on paper 10 years of CoD. They refused, and now they try and pretend that never happened and this all comes down to promises and words?

After the court cases with the CMA and EU turned sour for Sony, along with the discovery involving Sony moneyhatting devs, they've become insanely desperate now and are flinging as much bullshit as possible, they're basically now demanding the UK stop it while buying out a TON of press to cry to the public.

Thank you. Snoy need to stop making the exclusive argument. Since Everyone else can only see them as some derange moron, that invest too much into an inferior devices. That inferior device is actively hold back game development, since game dev are forces by corporate leech to meet that market.

Sony aren't as big as Microsoft.
They could, however, easily counter this by completely securing the Japanese market and stopping those games from going anywhere near Microsoft brands.
COD games have a short shelf life. They're only popular for a year. You want games that have substance. Get another Bloodborne-sized exclusive and you're golden.

What Sony's saying is correct. Microsoft is doing something shifty but legal so Sony is doing something shifty but legal too. Claiming they are whining to the court is completely fair game, same as Microsoft trying to start a monopoly.

This is a conversation stopper. Nobody can argue this.

      >Forced, overpriced DLC
DLC existed before Microsoft. It existed on Playstation too. You are only thinking it was MS because the 360 was the more popular console back then. It was never forced, the market decided to support it just like every single thing you are seething about.
      >Paid online
Nobody was forced to introduce it. In fact the biggest factor in the comeback of the PS3 was free online. If Sony and Nintendo legitimized it.
      >Shitty, unreliable hardware
Outside of the early 360 models the Xbox consoles have the most reliable hardware. Playstation consoles were especially always garbage.
      >"You can't play preowned games"
It was ahead of its time. Digital sales are 70% now on every platform and rising. People don't want to own anything anymore. If anyone, Valve popularized it with Steam. You could buy PC games with only the code inside for years before the Xbox One.
      >"The XB1 requires a constant internet connection"
Never actually happened, In fact Sony introduced online only for first party single player games with Gran Turismo Sport and 7. You can play Forza Horizon 5 offline today. You can't play GT7.
      >The You'll Own Nothing and Be Happy Pass
No different from Netflix. People want more for less and most people only play through a game once or never. The achievement and trophy lists proven it that 70+% of people never finish the game they bought for full price. You are a minority here pretending more than a small minority cares about autistically replaying the same game over and over. There are no Game Pass exclusive games, you can own your software still if you want to.
      >Tries to monopolize the industry by buying the biggest developers
No one, not even the clueless regulatory bodies argue with this as outside your schizo rants the video game industry doesn't work that way. It is impossible to monopolize the industry because it is impossible to own all the hardware and software channels. 10y/o argument.

Just like Xbox owners didn't know Sony will block multiplats from Xbox. For almost a decade the smug argument was "well if you want to play X then buy a Plasstation". Here is the argument turned around. If you want to play Starfield buy an Xbox.
