don't get too excited, that money is going to keep flowing as long the west remains and it only going to dry up once north america and europe are literal third world failed states, the only thing that maybe changes (for a while) is that they get less obvious and tell them to push their crap so hard that there companies collapse before time

Yes, unironically. Occupy Wall Street was a wake up call to the elites, they saw that they needed a full culture flip in a way that all the political energy of the left would go into a dumb non-issue in order to prevent anything like that. So they started investing hard on universities and courses targeting specifically identity ideology, something that causes just as much conflict.

And the gulible idiots ate it up real hard. Now they are protection multi-billio companies that have slave labour in Africa, fund politicians to make laws in their favor, lay-off hundreds of thousands of employees just to make some numbers, all because these companies put some black transsexuais in an ad. Look at this Ubisoft lay-off for example, some people might complain here and there, but nothing big will be done about it, because Ubi makes woke trash, and complaining too much about it and you get called a right-wing incel

Modern left is a fricking joke, they're tools of predatory companies

It's not just ESG, it's covid and also Saudi investors backing out.
The US government (and probably elsewhere, I don't know) froze the interest on loans which caused these gaming companies to apply for a bunch of loans, and scoop up as many employees as they could as quick as they could so they could (hopefully) pump out a couple of high profiting games.
The economy went to shit and as a result people had less spending money and as a result (on top of games being shit) a lot of these projects crashed and burned.
As a direct result of the games crashing and burning because they were quickly thrown into production while the getting was good, and from the loan interest being unfrozen, suddenly these mega corps are bleeding money left and right.

On the Embracer side they were in talks to get like 3 billion influx in money from Saudi investors which is why they bought up a bunch of studios and IPs, the Saudi investors backed out, and now Embracer is left footing the bill and has to just slash jobs everywhere and close studios left and right.

Putting all the troubles on the industry to MUH ESG is being woefully ignorant of the real problems, and is downplaying the long term effects that the real problems will result in.

The Embracer thing really is completely fricked. I don't think we've ever seen anything quite like it in the gaming industry. To be able to just buy up a bunch of studios on the promise that there's a ton of money coming, only to slash the frick out of those studios when the money ends up falling through, is flat out criminal.

As far as I looked into (which is to say, the OW wiki, her actual Wikipedia page, the official site, and the comics), I didn't see any hint that D.Va is a troony

She's trans color coded (literally light blue, pink, white are her color scheme), there was supposed to be an announcement about a specific playable character thats already in game actually being LGBTQ in a way that wasn't represented in game yet.

Peple just defaulted to thinking it was DVA being a troony since she's a hardcore gamer nerd that's one of the best gamers in the univerese and has the color coding of the trans flag.

I'm a pretty good old school x86 assembler and C kernel mode coder with a sold grasp of Bayesian and vector math principles and you are wrong. Its do- able on a static platform like a single console with a single GPU, amount of memory, CPU, buffers etc Its a fricking nightmare on anything multiplat and PC IS multiplat because no two are the same and the drivers and instruction sets for the processor and GPU are the same (yes I know directX, Open GL etc). Writing a full physics and light engine is not that simple at all unless you start ripping off other code or using licensed libraries

Everything I said is true and I illustrated that in my post. It is not easy to write a modern competitive game engine. It is a huge task unless you have a single defined static target platform and even then still a popular mechanics tier undertaking if you are starting from scratch and not using existing libraries. If you can do that you can also dump out software suites for everything from CGI to CAD. I don;t get a feeling you are actual someone like me who spent a long time producing real code for billions using C/x86/C++. Stop trying to pretend you are and listen to me and learn.

I fricking hate this post by him, it's one of the worst things he's ever posted

he's a journalist which means he at the very least should have googled the company and see who works there. On their CAREERS landing page that shows the employees that work at the company there was immediately 2 women within the first 6 pictures shown, and a handful of non-whites (2 hispanics, a black dude, couple of nebulous browns)
it took me literally 20 seconds to see that the company had mutliple non-white, multiple non-male employees.
he knew all of this information, and still made a big deal out of the gaming studio picture because it's "all white males" or some nonsense.

The dude is a fricking rat through and through. I used to just not care about him or was just neutral on him, until this specific fricking tweet where he went full mask off. Frick him, he deserves to burn.

In my family, I can accurately predict how a lot of people will behave when something happens. In the Western world, people call this ability to predict the behavior of certain races "prejudice" and then "racism", but they don't comment on the fact that this "prejudice" is usually super accurate and effective.

All jobs that provide genuine value to society are the lowest paid. People who make more than $25 an hour have no concern for whether or not their job provides any actual benefit to anyone

This is literally why they talk about UBI, shorter work weeks, and flexible job hours. There's literally not enough work to keep everybody busy for 40hrs since agriculture and manufacturing got automated. We have some 20% of the population working their asses off building housing, waiting tables, and fixing cars etc and getting paid frick all for it while the majority of people coast in jobs that produce nothing. Society needs unionization more than anything right now. We need more blue collar people getting paid more to do less work. Pull everybody out of the office and make them mow lawns, stamp metal, and fix appliances for 20 hours a week and your economy will fix itself, but that's only going to happen if those jobs pay what they're supposed to and the working conditions get better.

Back in the day 2 years was considered a fairly long dev cycle
Now somehow with 50x the resources and knowledge, 6 years isnt enough to make something playable

The industry is bloated as frick. People think its actually acceptable to work on a project for 6 years with nothing to show for it because "We've got a great team and we're building something truly special"
homie just make the fricking game. It shouldn't take that long. I honestly blame middle management slowing shit down because it feels like we're in a culture where you can't just do your job for your boss anymore

Instead you have to report to a boss who reports to a boss who reports to an exec who reports to a board who reports to a boss, and everyone has a different idea of what to do

They got paid a lot more so I imagine it still feels much better. Don't kid yourself, the primary purpose of work is to earn money. If you don't need to earn money because you have too much already then you seek your "value" elsewhere and not as a mook working a 9-5.

It's the old 'art from adversity' rule, if you give an artist unlimited time, money and creative freedom they'll probably make either A: nothing or B: something crap. The greatest films and games ever made have been done under horrendous pressure, crunch time, production issues etc.

More or less what happened with Rare. Nintendo heavily meddled in their productions while Microsoft Rare were allowed to do what they wanted.

that and also the fact that modern games take that long IN AVERAGE + 6 years is probably an exaggeration just like it was with cyberpunk, and 2 or 4 of those years were spend in pre-production or just waiting time in the office

What the Hell is wrong with game companies? Just like EA and BioWare with the Frostbite engine, all of these companies want their own proprietary engine for their own gain, when they're building this shit from scratch trying to catch up with working tech that's already industry standard and dependable with a track record for over decades like Unreal.

You go to the website in this thing and it says the engine itself is "still in development." It has been in development for all of those 6 years. Out of all of the engines they could have utilized, when it came time to make a video game for one of the biggest names in gaming, this is what they come out swinging with.

It's easier in the sense that it lets some dipshit executive somewhere minimize initial production costs, despite the fact that trying to force a shitty in-house engine to do things it was never designed to do often requires vastly more time, effort, and money than just paying for a working engine up front.

Last half decade has brought in historic record profits for every single company globally.
Western companies are obligated to turn money into more money, so everyone in the West unanimously upsized and expanded.
But now the well's run dry and all these new expansions are, unsurprisingly, grossly unprofitable. Especially compared to what we've seen during covid.
      So, course correction.

The reason you're not seeing this in the East is because Japanese/Chinese/Korean companies usually sit on liquid before upsizing.

I doubt anyone on the team thought that since it changed from a survival game like ARK except with mythological Blizzard creatures instead of Dinos, into a hardcore Tarkov extraction clone, into a hybrid of both where you have a home base that you craft into and then queue into PVP BR style matches with your character.

    >Odyssey started in 2017 as a pitch from Craig Amai, a Blizzard veteran who worked on World of Warcraft. It was conceived as a survival game, like Minecraft and Rust, but with more polish and fewer bugs.
Does Minecraft and Rust have large and well known bugs or something? Why would they feel the need to say that? Also, Blizzard haven't made a single good game for a very long time and all their products are trending downwards because they're all garbage nobody wants to play, they can't even get a season right in Diablo4 for frick sake. This game would OBVIOUSLY have been trash aswell, there's no other reason they would cancel it after 6 years, and the devs for Odyssey talked greatly about that "game" and how the systems were SO GOOD, like a Blizzard survival game will be anything revolutionary kek'd.

I know Palworld blabla, but I think Palworld set a standard for these type of games. It cost the small dev team roughly $6.75m to make/fund the game and they had around 40 devs working no the game on their free time for 2-3 years.. there's no reason at all for hundreds of devs at a massive corporation to do a worse job than them, just to end up not even releasing it after SIX fricking years. Not all, but most devs working at large AAA studios are privileged homosexuals who only got the job because it pays well, they have no passion for the projects or anything. God I hope Blizzard burns down so I can watch more useless people get fired and cry about it on Twitter

I would be interested in reading about this, but I'm not giving Bloomberg any of my money.

So, six years down the drain. Do you guys think they ever had anything beyond "isekai survival crafting game with a racially and sexually inclusive cast" cooked up for this?
The video game industry is so profoundly wasteful.

    >by all accounts very fun
This is the equivalent of saying "My Mom thinks I'm cool." no shit the dev team thinks their game is the greatest thing ever.

If it took 4 years to make cyberpunk 2077 there's no way it should take you 8 years to come out with some shitty, no graphics survival game. Should have been axed years ago

Six FRICKING Years and nothing to show for it
    >But people said it was fun, says the pundit
God I hate the dorito pope. He was not, ever, in any way based. Six years of this slop slurping up money, time, effort and they probably didn't even have anything more than a brief "concept" demo of what they wanted the game to be. Yes Jason, if you make a hyper focused tech demo to showcase what you want a game to be like, you typically want to make it fun. Got to show off that new engine you are making, explain to the lay man why you should be allowed to continue. However, if it was still YEARS away from a release, than it doesn't matter, especially if the engine is found out to not be flexible enough for Blizzard or another companies purpose and seemingly only exists to create this game. Have all the fricking devs at these companies gone full moron? Do they really think they get unlimited time and funds to do whatever it is they want?
    >It will get released eventually
I didn't even know that this game and engine existed. Last I knew, the only thing new from Blizzard was their replacement for WoW, a new MMO called Titan, that was it. Terrible.

I still have a copy of starcraft ghost reserved for the gamecube at EB games. EB games wouldn't give me my $5 back and now they don't even exist any more.
