thinking of buying one of these to play games on PC only, it doesn't need a Switch or some proprietary charger right? or should I just buy a Dual Sense?
thinking of buying one of these to play games on PC only, it doesn't need a Switch or some proprietary charger right? or should I just buy a Dual Sense?
It charges with regular USB-C, nothing propietary.
I've been using it on PC for like 5 years now without issue, though the dpad is kind of shitty so probably not the best choice if you want to play mostly 2D games.
I like the D-pad and face buttons more than the 360/XB1 controller, personally, but the triggers aren't as good and it's not as compatible with games natively as Microsoft's first party controllers are.
>I like the D-pad and face buttons more than the 360/XB1 controller
That's a very low bar
it works perfectly fine on pc
other than having to use betterjoy for gyro
it's better than the dualsense in everyway just for having a lasting battery
It uses a USB-C to USB cable that comes in the box. One thing you should be aware of is that the ZR and ZL buttons are just that, buttons. If you don't play any games that would benefit from analog triggers then you should be good to go. It's a very comfortable controller with a long battery life.
Great controller.
great if you like joystick drift. if you're getting one for pc only just get a dualshock
>joystick drift
sirs please redeem the needful hall effect sticks
funny you say that because I only get ever get drift issues with playstation controllers
Why? Just get an Xbone controller.
I know you guys don't know this yet, but gyro is a really great feature.
The fuck do you need gyro for on PC?
Emulating nintendo shit
Helps reduce the gap between controller and mouse aiming which is nice for any single player game with aiming.
>The fuck do you need gyro for on PC?
uh, to aim!?
dumbass
I can't even fucking imagine tilting a controller to aim when you have a mouse and keyboard option. Zoomers really are the worst generation to exist.
wow, imagine playing how YOU like to play on your PERSONAL COMPUTER, what a nightmare
depending on the game using gyro means you have both, analog movement and aiming precision similar to a mouse
hell for some PC games, i find playing with a controller on my sofa much more comfortable
>I can't even fucking imagine tilting a controller to aim when you have a mouse and keyboard option.
how about you TRY IT instead of bitching about it?
Do you fuckin' play Splatoon without gyro? How the fuck do you use that image and say something so dumb?
>Should I get this controller?
>>No, get this worse controller instead
>But that one doesn't have gyro aiming
>>Why do you even need gyro aiming? Just use mouse and keyboard
This board really is painfully retarded sometimes
I can understand the logic
>If you want to aim, you use a mouse
>Since you're not using a controller to aim, you don't need gyro
>As such, gyro is a worthless addition
I don't agree with it, but I see the logic
Zoomers tilt the controller to aim, they learned it from growing up playing splatoon. You're talking to actual normie retards.
You've obviously never used it to fine tune your aim in an action game. I love it in Monster Hunter when aiming the Slinger/Claw/Wirebug/Insect Glaive because I don't need to take my fingers off the face buttons for small precise movements, while still having said stick for large panning movements.
the only reason I ever use gyro is just to make wii shit and switch games playable
I never use it otherwise the only other time I used it is on ocarina of time
Gyro is many times better than sticks + aim assist.
>Zoomers move the mouse to aim, they learned it from growing up playing quake. You're talking to actual normie retards.
wii emulation
No gyro
Why? Just get a Switch Pro controller.
Get both.
Best controller, still has shitty support even through steam.
Charges through regular USB C, works fine with most games and for those where it doesn't work natively, Steam's Big Picture mode makes it work without issue.
Buy one of the third party controllers instead. The Switch controller feels nice but is ass for PC because you're basically forced to run everything through Steam for its controller settings.
Make sure you get the Bluetooth version because it’s the only one with Hall Effect sticks.
>because you're basically forced to run everything through Steam
retarded nagger
Tried this, it fucking sucks compared to Steam Input. This shit had my sticks moving without input for no reason.
DS4windows is the up to date program to use for a pc switch controller
reWASD?
i don't want to pay nor chase out of date ruskie cracks to use my controller.
Does this come with a Bluetooth adapter? My PC has onboard Bluetooth but it’s really shitty.
Bluetooth adapters are really cheap, you can buy really good ones from Orico for like $10
Yes
it's a 2,4g adapter
>you're basically forced to run everything through Steam
Oh no. Anyway...
This or the Gullikit King Kong? I want a controller for my Switch and IPad
I have the King Kong, they really are great. Compared to the pro controllers (official switch ones) i've tried they are just plain better. Didn't have any problems with drift too (had drift on my pro controller). The 8Bitdo one is probably great too, so I think you should choose based on ergonomics solely.
The D-pad in the Switch Pro controller is broken out of the box. It WILL read input incorrectly and this won't matter to you until it does matter to you. 90% of the time it feels fine. You can test this yourself with any software that will read what buttons you're pressing and give you a print of them.
This is sort of unrelated, but my PowerA Xbox controller for my PC recently had the trigger break for some reason, and I really liked it because it had a locking USB plug with a cord splitter you could disconnect rather than unplugging it from the PC.
I bought a cheap replacement, but the inputs on the bumpers/triggers feel kinda inconsistent, so I'm thinking of dropping more than $20 on a really nice controller. Which ones are the most durable/least prone to mechanical failure? I don't abuse them or anything, I'd just like one that feels nice and won't just randomly break.
If I get a wireless controller with 2.4ghz connectivity will that interfere with my wireless mouse which is also 2.4ghz?
Bluetooth devices usually don't interfere, they have their own unique frequency codes.
Depends on how many 2.4ghz devices you have around
if talking about the ultimate buy the bluetooth anyways since that is the only one with hall effects
otherwise 2.4ghz is just better
bluetooth heavily relies on being latest version to even have a reliable signal
only if they're running on the same channel, there are like 11 different channels for 2.4Ghz I think
nagger why??
just buy dualsense it's literally perfect. haptic feedback is an insane feature if the game supports it
>dualsense
>literally perfect
>that dpad and the battery life
trolling outside of /b/
dpad is perfect. better than xbox one
>battery
dont care im wired
i liked it in death stranding, the last of us and especially uncharted. spiderman and deathloop haptics are good too
there was some small bottle with a rock and when drake shook it i LITERALLY felt it. like I was literally shaking it and I felt the rock inside, its so fucking cool
the most frustrating problem is even if the ps5 version of the game has haptic, the pc version doesn't. there is a program called DSX that lets you emulate haptics from sound. a pretty neat feature to be honest. i recently played silent hill 2 with it lol. it's just a vibration caused by game sounds, but it feels nice because dualsense vibrates because of sound motors (kinda), not the regular ones
>buy a wireless controller
>used it wired
..so?
can you use any wireless controller wired or do they need to be specifically made to connect through wires?
there's nothing wrong with using it wired for specific scenarios like something competitive but most cases you should be using it wireless
this looks good but I don't know if I'll ever want to buy it over the normal saturn pad since I could always just use the xbox pad since it feels authentic enough to me for any sega 3d games
what are some games that support haptic feedback on PC?
The same games that supports it on console usually supports it also on pc
Never buying a controller without Hall effect sticks ever again.
which are the best ones atm?
Probably the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth. Game Sir has a terrible d-pad and the other one people hype up that I forgot the name of but it has problems with buttons sticking from what I hear.
thar be the king kong pro 2
the only thing that be holdin me back from buying one of them hall effect stick pads is that they don't make a n64 controller and the fact that 8bitdo hasn't made a pro 3 but most likely I'm getting a normal stick before that comes out
There’s also pic related coming in December.
Those sticks look a lot like the switch joy con sticks. They also look really small compared to the rest of the controller.
Xbone controller + new adapter is all you need. Bluetooth sucks, do not use that. The new adapter is perfect.
that's what I use. Just make sure you have a usbc cable
is Usb C the one that goes both ways?
Yeah.
If you buy the controller new it comes with a regular USB to USBC cable to charge it with.
got a ds4 and it works flawlessly with everything
Does Nintendo still repair Joycons? I got real bad drift and I ended up buying a pro controller in the meantime. It's nice, but now that I'm playing Mortal Kombat, the D-pad kind of sucks for it. Plus I'll be wanting to play Mario RPG in handheld mode.
>Does Nintendo still repair Joycons?
yes
>Does Nintendo still repair Joycons? I got real bad drift and I ended up buying a pro controller in the meantime. It's nice, but now that I'm playing Mortal Kombat, the D-pad kind of sucks for it. Plus I'll be wanting to play Mario RPG in handheld mode.
Just fix it yourself. You can buy a joycon analog stick replacement kit for like 5 bucks and it takes 5 minutes to replace. Here's the entire process.
Unscrew the outside
Pull it open
Pull battery out of the way
Unscrew battery compartment
Unscrew analog stick
Screw in new analog stick
undo everything you just did to open it.
There's no way to screw it up even if you're retarded.
I wish it was also this easy to change out the abxy buttons
>order extra part
>set aside time to dissect it
vs
>go to post office and drop off package
>get new joycons in the mail later
>repeat because stupid
i have the one that comes with 2.4 and bluetooth works well but sometimes the extra bumper buttons dont work and i jave to fiddle with the program / game / steam to get everything bound and recognized
Its great, plus I play for 2 weeks before needing to charge it up again.
>or should I just buy a Dual Sense?
that or a dualshock 4
the gyro on the pro-controller is good, and steam input does this great thing where they use HD rumble when the gyro is enable as some form of haptic feedback, its great and helps you feel how much you are moving the control
HOWEVER the dualshock/dualsense also have gyro (albeit i feel the DS4 gyro is slightly worse than the switch's) AND they have that touchpad which goes a long way to map extra actions on PC games
you might want to use R1 instead of R2 to fire in shooters tough, the controller has a long trigger and it can throw off your aim
i recommend playstation controllers over the switch pro-controller, theres a few things the pro-controller does better, but the dualshock/dualsense is simply a jack of all trades, master of a couple
The pro controller doesn't have analog triggers. Digital only. That's a pretty big minus for me. I'd stick to a DS4. Has gyro and analog triggers.
Honestly if you don't need gyro, then just get an Xbox controller. It will work straight out of the box with any game that has controller support, and it has analog shoulder triggers which in my opinion come useful more often than gyro.
>Honestly if you don't need gyro, then just get an Xbox controller. It will work straight out of the box with any game that has controller support
basically every controller works out of the box with steam input, the only exception ive found is the GoG port of metal Gear Solid, for some reason steam input wont work on it
The touchpad on the DS comes in handy for launchers
Wait... it actually works as a regular touch pad for your mouse cursor?
i made a thread about this the other day but got no replies so ill ask here since this is a more active thread. i need to get a new pc controller as my shitty chinese ps3 controller is dying. i am looking at three controllers. the GameSir T4 Kaleid, KingKong 2 Pro and the 8BitDo Ultimate. do you guys recommend any of these and have you had any experience with any of them? thanks.
Why not just go for the T4 Cyclone?
cyclone is worse than the kaleid
all they needed to do was make the t4k wireless but they can't even do that
>it doesn't need a Switch or some proprietary charger right?
Man I want to get the joycons for PC but you either need a switch or a fucking proprietary charger to charge them.
Get gamesir g7 se(hall effect analogues and triggers) or gullikit kingong 2 pro(hall analogues)
I’ve found it advantageous to have a Switch Pro controller and an Xbox Series controller for PC. Then you have pretty much all your bases covered. Must have gyro for this game? Use the Pro controller. Need a dpad that isn’t total mushy dog shit? Use the Xbox controller.
why not just get a dualshock/dualsense then?
you get both a good dpad and gyro
i really dont understand why people keep pushing the xbox controller these days, its painfully obsolete compared to the competition
guessing it's cause of the bad battery life. it's more of a problem on ps4 vs pc, since you can just plug it in or reduce the polling rate.
Don't. I have one.
Its directinput not xinput, so you gotta use steam or DS4 all the time so games recognize it.
Also it has a shit tier dpad that even with thr tape mod is meh.
Digital triggers, and it has horrible input lag.
Wireless you get 14-15ms MINIMUM
Wired is even worse for some reason KEK
The battery lasts like a week tho. And I replaced the analog stick for some aluminum ones because the plastic was so shit tier it would grind down into some white dust.
Too expensive for what it is.
Get an xbone controller nigga.
oh yeah I forgot to add I have been having drift issues and this turd is like a year old with low usage.
fucking israelitetendo never again.
I miss my wired xbone, it just werked
buy whatever feels good in your hands
make sure it has all the things you need
personally I rock a xbone+nso snes combo
I don't use gyro so it has me covered for every game I play
It has no analog triggers and this is a problem in many types of games. For example, most racing games, things like Art of Rally, Moto GP, WRC, etc., are all miserable to play with this Switch controller.
My right stick sometimes doesn't fully detect that I'm holding it all the way to the right, wish the quality control on this thing was better since it breaks like nothing.
It's weird, I've dropped my splatoon one a decent ammount of times and it's still golden, but somehow the only company that still does AAA 2D games managed to ship the shittiest dpad known to man by price-quality ratio.
This was already nearly perfect, all they had to do is add gyro.
>that button placement
trash
The d-pad is the worst in the industry. Apart from that it's a good controller though it will probably drift on you at some point, requiring you to open up and clean it and for that you need JIS screwdrivers - NOT philips.
Is there a way to mod the ds4's dpad. It's...okay but I'd rather have something a bit more tactile.
that's a piece of garbage
no pivot on the d-pad
no choice between analog or digital triggers
no back buttons
1f input lag
bluetooth only
defective potentiometers prone to stick drift
don't say i didn't warn you
