i suspect the shapeshifting girl (who I had already killed) was in that cutscene anyway posing as one of my team members, because the game can't handle the player doing things out of order all that well.

Nobody ever talks about him or Jaheira. Being the only two unfuckable companions destroyed their popularity I guess.
No one wants to use them, you don't get them as usable companions until the game is basically over. At that point you're usually invested in seeing your game-long companion's quests through. Minsc is even worse than Jaheria in that regard, you have to go find him in the game's final act. She at least starts it with you (as long as she lives through act 2 that is)
Been thinking about this, I would have preferred if the game asks you which 3 companions you want to play with at the start and then you find them in Act 1 somewhere.
Instead your camp fills up with people you don't play with who constantly bugs you about their sidequests that you don't care about. And late companions don't stand much of a chance.
I'm of course talking about the first playthrough perspective here.
Just play with the big party mod. I'm having a ton of fun running around with 8 people on tactician, even if it makes the game a lot easier. Only people I don't have in my party are Jah and Minsc
I want smaller parties, on my second playthrough I just did 2 people on ez difficulty (basically impossible on medium and once I realized you get 20% cheaper shop on ez --and you can just toggle ez on/off at any time-- i felt stupid playing on normal difficulty).
i don't like it when games just make it possible to change difficulty at any time.
i didnt even know minsc was in the game and when i got him i only had the orin bitch left lmao. so fucking stupid, both minsc and jaheira should have been there from the get go or at least beginning of act 2.

No. What ruined the tone was being reminded just how fuck awful melee rangers are, or rangers in general. Their cone skill, ensnare (and misty step if you're a gloomy cuck) are the only things worth doing. The beasts are pretty mediocre, but decent ADD spam. When I did House of Hope I had so many adds, I had more adds than the devil himself.
Lol what? Minsc is the most op companion. Cone does triple damage to multiple enemies in one turn. So multiple enemies are guiding bolted and then the rest of your team cleans up with advantage.
I just finished tactician ranger and the only way it gets OP is if you mix class with thief and have the illithid power of mind sanctuary so you can dump all your actions into shooting arrows like some legolos larper.
better when you become the mind flayer and just get that power passively with the haste bow or if you get some caster cuck to haste you

Ya, at least you have spells and some stealth actions. Fighter is ligijist press button to win and barbarian just seems redundant outside of throwing shit at people, which an Eldritch knight can do easily as well. I just wish Larian would make Eldritch Knight have Int modifier spells instead of none so it isn't just stacking buff only spells. That's the only reason I went ranger this time around anyhow. Martial/cast mix.
