they wanted to try something different, and that doesn't always pan out how one expects
At the same time, it wasn't really different enough either. That whole grimy hospital aesthetic or whatever you want to call it had become really stale and boring by the time 4 released.
>What the hell happened?
Same thing what happened to MGS5:
Konami's boomer higher ups dipped their butter fingers into the team's plans, and ruined it all.
My experiences were the polar opposite.
I vividly recall thinking in my young mind "Holy shit, this is yet another amazing game for the PS2!" back in 2004.
>Konami's boomer higher ups dipped their butter fingers into the team's plans, and ruined it all.
Bingo.
Henry Townshend is a fricking tabula rasa nobody.
Walter is the main character.
Experimental and half of the team was working in Silent Hill 3. Pretty good game though and concluded everything related to the cult.
Repeating levels, remove that, add new zones and kill that b***h midgame
>Repeating levels
Not just in the second half of the game but having to go back and forth between the apartment started to grow stale. Like at first the hauntings were cool and spooky but then it started to feel like a chore dealing with them. It had a lot of good ideas but seriously suffered from being too repetitive in multiple ways.
A lot of things went right and wrong in this game.
To this day I feel like it has the scariest opening of all time
As for the game itself. I don't know. You go through the same areas twice and henry isn't that interesting. I love that the atmosphere is almost always oppressive and that places you thought were safe havens get corrupted over time. Walter also isn't that terrifying but whatever
You can shit on it all you want but lord knows I'd take one of these every 2 or 3 years, especially with the state of gaming in 2021
>Walter also isn't that terrifying but whatever
I didn't find him terrifying but after a while I started to feel sorry for him and that defeating him was actually for his own good. Never really had that happen before. Silent Hill is obviously horror but I thought it did the depressing stuff for characters a lot better which sets it apart from other horror games that only try to make everything scary.
Bumping
The only game that I ever dropped because it became too scary for me.For as long as I remember I have these recurring nightmares how I'm in my childhood commieblock flat, the light is dimly lit, walls start crumbling, loud noises are heard from other rooms and other haunted shit is going on, so when it started happening in game it was just too much. Thanks for reading my blog.
I like the idea of the game after I gave the plot a chance.
It's actually quite good for true silent hill fans.
People need to start having their own opinion and not follow what the haters say.
My biggest problem with the game has always been Henry. He is so fricking boring.
Harry and James are equally boring. You're just gay and hate yourself.
James has a dramatic twist, Henry has nothing.
>My biggest problem with the game has always been Henry. He is so fricking boring.
You have shit-taste, Henry is awesome and funny.
>Harry and James are equally boring.
They're not boring and they are cool and funny as well. Heather on the other hand is unironically complete shit, i don't get why people like her.
henry was ahead of his time
>be Henry
>carry that b***h through half of the game
>she cucks you at the very end
>leaves for the serial killer, saying "oh he is a poor little boy, I could fix him"
OK, telly me again why do I have to save this b***h? Why is cuck ending considered a good ending? I can just kill them both.
...so that the maniac killer can't reverse-birth himself into a room.
I mean that game could have gone places if it wasn't anchored to Silent Hill, but that doesn't excuse how moronic it is. But I still love it.
It's been awhile since I've played Silent Hill 4, but isn't the good ending her moving out of the apartment.
I did not hit her, it's not true, it's bullshit, I did not hit her, I did NOT. Oh hi Walter.
Has some good ideas mixed in with some bad ideas, and a mixed execution
The good
>The whole apartment idea with stuff slowly changing over time
>Panopticon world
>The soundtrack
>The attempt at RE-style inventory management
The bad
>The execution doesn't do justice to the game's good ideas
>Barely uses its soundtrack, entire songs go unused
>the fricking ghosts that follow you around and are more annoying than they are scary
>least interesting plot in the classic series
It's not a bad game but it's just "okay". I get some people have fondness for it but to me it's the first SH that is mostly forgettable, and sets up pretty well for the series to just keep getting more uninteresting going forward.
