This pretty much unfortunately. I wish there was a single TRPG on FFT's level but sadly FFT just mogs the entire genre.

True. There is but one King.

FFTactics sucked even for its time. It lacked TRPG features other games had had since the SNES like being able to cancel movement and reposition (even fricking Chess has this).

And so many bugs. Sometimes a ranged unit would stand on a piece of ground and magically couldn't see the enemy. Because a 0.5 block was in front of him. Then you move another ranged unit to the exact same place and the unit somehow can see. And the enemy archer you're targetting is 3.0 levels below you with a tree and enemies in front of him. But somehow he still can target you. Shit was absolutely dumb.

But everyone acts like it was the best TRPG ever because it had the final fantasy name on it and you played it when you were 12.

You've described Lodoss, except instead of vidya it got turned into an anime.

Slayers and a few others were based on a DnD campaign as well.

What the frick am I reading lmao
I've played them all. I'm desperate for literally ONE (1) game to rival FFT but they simply do not, full stop.

A difference of opinion. Which I know breaks your brain.
            >I'm desperate for literally ONE (1) game to rival FFT but they simply do not
Depends on what you want from it. If you want a similar (better) story, setting and tone, play Suikoden. If you want the job system, play Final Fantasy III, V and Bravely Default. All the best parts of the FFTactics job system without the slow and broken Tactics gameplay. If you want a game with better tactical RPG mechanics, there's countless ones that came out before and after FFTactics.

From my experience, most of the people who obsess over FFTactics are obsessing over the setting and story. Which again, I can think of many games that did those better. But it's all down to personal opinion.

I'll take your deflection as a sign that you understand my point, but just can't argue against it. A person can just play FFIII and V and get the same job classes as FFTactics. Arguably done better. And Suikoden hit many of the same story beats as FFTactics. But did it better.

                Anonymous

Addressing your opinion with your own logic is not a deflection.

Besides that point, you gave a paltry TWO (2) arguments for why you thought it was a bad game, then went on to project as hard as you could and said anyone who liked it only liked it because they were 12 and it had final fantasy in the name.

After I called out your bullshit, you started crying about opinions, when you can't handle that most people find FFT leaps and bounds better than the rest in the first place.

You're simply another contrarian npc who wants to feel unique by pretending to like some of the worst games in the genre. Nobody cares.

You didn't do this. You ignored my examples of why I think other games are better than FFTactics and just responded with "you're stupid." And you have continued to do it with every post. While trying to look like you're "owning" me with some intelligent counter point.

But what really makes your point fail is that you try to say my opinions are "stupid and wrong" while using your own opinion and group popularity as the reason FFTactics is good.

If something is very popular, there's a very good chance that it's because it's good. When something is unpopular, there's a very good chance that's because it's bad. Your contrarian posting isn't going to change any minds, FFT is simply the best in the genre. And since you concede that opinions, including your own, don't matter, we'll just use the only objective fact that it's the most popular game of the genre and therefor, good.

Not cancelling move was important due to move-related events, such as traps and move events like Teleport, which was chance-based. As for the ranged attacks, you'll have to show what's happening so we can judge it because clearly you aren't very bright.

Yeah it was my first game. It wasn't until way later when I started spending hours in the Warren Report that I learned the context for why they presented the massacre. My initial thought was that Ronway was just a crazy evil person. But later I realized he was just really desperate and fighting against someone worse. But hero fantasy and whatnot, it's hard for me to rationalize butchering a bunch of defeated and broken people even if it's too galvanize the defeated and broken people around them.

Also jumping Jesus Christ there's an assload of backstory and context for everything in this game. Just recruiting and using Hobrym clued me in that there was an entirely separate upheaval that brought the Dark Knights down to deal with Valeria's upheaval. And as I understand this is not the first. I would say I wonder why Square dropped it but it would take me forever to catch up.

Because Forespoken wasn't made to sell to customers. It was made to get DEI money and shareholders. In the same way that FFVII Remake isn't made to sell to customers. The money is made in the front end from hedge funds and exclusivity deals.

I completely agree. Square should be going back to its old system of making many medium budget games like Chrono and Mana and etc. But they're not going to while they keep making way more from other means.

I have no idea what would've happened with Volaq, he's pretty irrelevant so he probably would've just died off-screen. As for Tartaros he would've either become a major enemy in a future game or even joined the player in a scenario where another Ogre Battle was starting.

My Denam's whip finisher does a lot of damage, and his lobber ability is really versatile. I think people really overestimate softlock chances in these types of games because they played them when they were 6 and too moronic to make multiple savefiles.

They're good when you first get them. Octopuses fall off very fast and even when they're strong they rely too much on water being present. Cyclops have magic but they don't get meditate so you have to keep feeding them MP, even then they lack the magic damage of dedicated casters. Howl is pretty good on them though. Gryphons and wieneratrice remain good from my experience because they can fly. Postgame has a lot of bottomless pits and huge elevation differences so they are pretty useful, petrifying enemies with wieneratrice in particular is very good crowd control. Dragons are good, very tanky and dragon scale can be used for a cheesy instant kill on the first phase of the final boss. With dragons only like 2 types of them are useful however as the other ones inflict useless debfuffs with their breath attacks. Don't use Golems (Pumpkinhead Golems are actually really good but they're not monsters).

      Anonymous

So far I've got a Griphon (seems really good, my fastest and highest mobility unit with very high HP and a drain ability to stay topped up. I use him to harass backline) and an Octopus (I love the sprite but he seems kinda trash, sky high mana costs on his moves so he depends on consumables AND he needs to be on water tiles for his best skills. Poison is really strong though so I've put him to good use.)
I've only fought one dragon so far, but it was before I could turn Denam into a Beastmaster. They seem to play a tank role, but maybe different elements have other specialties.

Gryphon's are amazing in LUCT and Reborn, enemies inherently chase after them because they're considered unarmored, but they have so much HP that they're basically unkillable. They're the perfect tank.

Tactics Ogre is too kino. The fact that they made a prequel that gives a main villain an origin story without throwing any of it in your face and selling it perfectly is one of the most kino moments in gaming, it's like Darth Vader prequel if it actually good.

Every time. And they wonder why people start attacking FFTactics.

      >everything sucks besides FFTactics
I wish it weren't true. Even the sequels suck ass, which proves

      [...]

Slayers and a few others were based on a DnD campaign as well.

Trannies ruined FF fans, now they attack everything.

Nah, FF fans were arguing over which FF game sucked the most in the late 90s. It's just part of the FF series, since the series trademark is making each new game drastically different. And generating artificial hype.

I just don’t want to play it anymore, all the fricking element dungeons, all the paths, the witch you can only get after giving her all the right pets or some shit, the 2000 level dungeon, it’s just too much for me to enjoy anymore. Might go back and finish it but I just got burned out.

All of the things you mentioned are optional. If you're an autist like me it's a great game to sink 400 hours into every couple of years but I would not recommend doing all of the side content for most players.

There's one route where his daughter is like "Wouldn't you rather die for the glory of our nation?" and he's like "Bitch, have you heard a single fricking thing I've said since the day you were born?"

And then you solo everything because managing loyalty is a pain. Dive enough in PotD and you'll see some of your units losing loyalty.
I really should finish it someday but I heard that CODA 4 scales to your stats so getting this overpowered might make things harder for me.

As much as I like the TO game, I barely remember the music. I remember Overture, Religious Precepts, Theme of Cygnet...

FFT just has dem battle themes I like more

Can someone explain how damage in this game works? I use +str buffs and defense debuffs and my damage sometimes isn't altered at all.
