I'm gonna play this shit with buttery smooth controls, mouselook (but not vertical mouselook) and 1080p resolution and I'm gonna like it.
>two weapon slots >regenerating health >auto-aim >popularized console FPS, leading the industry into a fifteen year brown n' bloom dark age
get that crap outta here.
Half-Life is the original bullshit movie game. Takes forever to get into real gameplay. Constantly interrupts the fun. Don't you dare sully Doom by comparing it to that crapola.
What movement? You mean strafe left and right? There are ZERO advanced movement available. No bunny hopping, no rocket jumping, no wall running, NOTHING except strafe
Yeah, but the enemies are all designed around that. The challenge comes from evading a shitload of enemy projectiles, almost like a shmup. Half Life has bunny hopping but it's pretty much just good for going fast since every enemy is hitscan
You're really comparing apples to oranges here. Like the other guy said, Doom has much more emphasis on movement and positioning, and also predates HL by about 5 years on an engine that isn`t even real 3d. HL is a lot more tactical (especially against the marines) and they used that as a selling point, since it's combat was a lot more tense, grounded, and 'real' than anything on the market prior. If you wanna make comparisons a better comparison to HL would be something like FEAR, which I feel took a lot of influence from HL but also tried to take that more realistic gunplay in a new direction, even if it did kinda get repetitive. I mean, HL had a lot of different challenges, but FEAR is like if you took We've got hostiles and stretched that out for an entire game.
but Black Mesa replaced Half-Life as the defacto definitive.
Black Mesa is shit
I played Half Life. Sucked.
No idea what people see in that game.
Agreed except replace Half Life with DOOM
Agreed except replace DOOM with your mom.

I like Doom though.
No you don't thats why you aren't playing the original code
Prboom based ports gets me close enough.

Your meds, bro.
Gameplay is still better then DOOM. Literally NO AIM REQUIRED, ALL AUTO AIM
Doom isn't about aiming, it's about movement

Oh also Doom does actually have rocket jumping (or at least rocket boosting). And SR50.
go beat doom on nightmare then, moronic broccoli head.
Yeah bro, Call of Duty has a one hit shot death mode i guess it makes the campaign good now cause its LEL HARDER

Vanilla Doom is pretty basic at this point, while vanilla HL still holds up, so yes, I agree with you.
Doom caused a mass shooting. Careful bros
Nah, that was Marilyn Manson.
Nah, that was toxic masculinity.
>doom
>decent gameplay, every chapter except 3 is ok
>half life
>the game that puts the 5 in 5/10
i think i'd rather play doom, thanks
only episode 1 is decent, the rest is shit
it wasn't THAT bad, but 3 was a fricking slog to play through
Strife is the best Doom engine game.
