This game is a torture, it's just not fun.

This game is a torture, it's just not fun. It's not like Ninja Gaiden or Castlevania which are tough but fair, this game is just stressful, what's the point of playing it? Everyone who prefers this to Super Mario USA is a wienersucker

I agree. Had they released it with GBA sound effects it might have been more tolerable. Also save states would have made it fun.

It was meant as a challenging follow up to SMB1 for players who had mastered it. It's a great game, especially in All-Star where you have generous checkpoints and continues so anyone can enjoy it.

SMB USA was a complete butchery that was not even remotely resembling SMB.

    >fair
Both NG and CV have more unfair bs moments

There is not a single bullshit moment in CV1 except for Death maybe

I beat this game 4 times. Twice when I was 7, once at 13, and once last year.

I had a blast returning to it last year, it was such an enthralling challenge. People need to stop whining - yes it’s hard, yes you’ll die a lot, yes you’ll get screwed in a ton of frustrating ways. That’s the fun of it! Great game for pros only, very much enjoyed

Play the SNES version instead it's much easier than the original.
    >You only need to beat 8-4 once to reach A-1 and beyond
    >There are chimes that tell you if you went the wrong path in Bowser's Castles so you will quickly find the right one.
    >You can save and load the game so there is no need to replay earlier worlds again and again if you die.
I'm bad at platformers but even I could beat the All-stars version without much trouble.

You forgot to mention the biggest change, you restart from the beginning of the level not the entire world when you game over plus you get 5 lives instead of 4

It's okay as a side game. But it's obviously inferior to Mario USA.

I've only played the All-Stars version and people heavily overrate how challenging it is: only the wind + spring segments are obnoxious, but everything else is pretty standard.

Did you complete A through D worlds?

They are immediately unlocked after you beat World 9 in the scrub version so he most likely did. Would be weird to just stop playing when the game gives you more levels

          World 8.
You don't have to find world 9 in the All-Stars version to play A-D. I didn't now world 9 existed until many years later. Was wild to go back and play it in my college years.

It's the 4th question of SMB, bro.

    Super Mario Bros.
    Super Mario Bros. loop 2
    VS. Super Mario Bros.
    Super Mario Bros. 2 J

It's for Super Players™ who have already completed the first game many times and mastered it. Until you've done that you probably won't enjoy the game very much.

Ah yes, I forgot. It's a remix of levels from 1/VS/2.

There is also unofficially the port of Super Mario Bros. Special to Famicom that is a must-play for SMB1 fans.

smb1 movement never feels great, the balancing act of the slippery controls isn't enjoyable, even if it's challenging at times.

Windy levels in platformers are a shitty gimmick that never should've existed. If not for that, this game wouldn't have been that bad. The windy levels are what make it insufferable.
