Good luck finding a game with crossplay disabled

        >Well it's not including console players
The game requires a minimum modicum of being able to fucking aim if you want to play on any difficulty above Hard. At that point half the difficulties are unplayable because of console players filling up a slot that would have otherwise been given to a bot that at the very least has infinite armor bags.

They also gave out Payday 2 for free when they got the IP back, they make money on DLC sales.

I'm really enjoying the overhauled stealth with the new casing mechanics and gadgets
And the silver lining of having servers instead of player host is no more BS desync detection crap
Trying to stealth in payday 2 if you weren't host was fuckin aids

Yeah the more grounded tone, gameplay, heists and actually being in FPS mode is pretty fun and exciting. Unfortunately everything turns to literal shit the instant you leave the first person camera (the post-game summary is absolutely atrocious). The game menus, interface and inventory options are like evil twin parodies of PD2:
      >no Crimenet
      >no lobbies
      >no chat
      >no in-game voice
      >heist favors
      >broken pre-heist gear interface
      >total abortion of inventory and mods system
      >progression system that feels like it was made by interns, one month before release
      >no xp from heists, only from "achievements"
      >no way of functionally browsing nor searching among these gorillion of "achievements"
      >game released in an unplayable state
      >aside from fixing the servers, total radio silence and utter lack of patches (console port issue, so this is how things will be from now on)
      >etc. etc.
It's like they took a pretty good game and sent it to you in a truckload of manure, while doing everything they can to make you hate it. Also setting fire to your house when delivering it. It's honestly bewildering to think this was made by the "same studio" as PD2 because aside from the stealth improvements there isn't a trace of the lessons learned from the decade of their previous game?
Maybe it will be fixed in 12-18 months, but since you get the impression the studio has disbanded and just made a run with the money, I honestly have a hard time believing that.

        it's simple
All the old Overkill/Starbreeze devs that worked on PD2 left or died
PD3 is mostly developed by people who joined the last years of PD2.

yeah a shame it took the devs 3 weeks to fix their servers and another month to release its first "hotfix"

The servers aren't even fixed, players just stopped playing so now servers aren't overloaded. I really do doubt their server backend has been fixed at all

Anyways, now we're getting animations as QoL improvements, Cook Off and Murky Station and the transporter skill line.

Why didn't they release with a more modern equivalent to cook off? Idk, make it so you gotta activate a crypto mining facility and keep it operational during cop assaults and getting more money the longer you stay?
They kept telling me that the gang was gonna more into more "contemporary" crimes with cybercrimes and whatnot, but I never felt I was stealing anything different from a big bag of cash. Never really feels like I'm stealing something new and intresting.

Why Murky Station and not Shadow Raid? Murky is one of my favourite stealth heists but Shadow Raid was THE first ever stealth only heist with the cool secret objective about stealing a samurai armour with 2 keycards.

Locke blows, his portrait is clearly AI made and he stopped been intresting after Reservoire Dogs, when he became Bain's number 1 dickrider.

Oh and still no mention of an Offline mode or a return to Crime.net
Elizabeth should die from donut overdose, fat bitch

    so what exactly went wrong?
the skill system? progression? or the always online?

      Anonymous

First and foremost, the progression system.
Second and damn nearly tied with first, the always online but ONLY because the game was unplayable for a week due to it or else nobody would have complained much.

My biggest fear is that now that the always online hasn't stopped people from playing anymore that the devs will try to memoryhole people about how horrible of an idea it was and an offline mode will never be added back in.

Server issues killed the game’s momentum at launch. It sold well enough to make back its cost of development but people stopped playing because they literally couldn’t. Word of mouth didn’t spread.
At this point they’re better off framing their next update as a relaunch like lots of games do and offering a sale. They’re likely to find success then since the base game is solid.

I'd wait until the first year of DLCs is out before doing a relaunch. The next update looks nice but the third biggest problem to player retention is simply that there's not enough content to keep people past the 50-100 hour mark. There's nothing to buy with money, there's no variety in gunplay, there's only two loud centric builds and both are just slightly different ways to kill instead of all the crazy shit Payday 2 had, C-Stacks are grindy out the ass for only some gloves at best, and there's no prestige system like 2's infamy system to keep people who want to keep going a reason to keep going.

Payday 2 has all the systems in place for player retention without needing to resort to predatory practices like weeklies or season passes or whatever else "job" system literally every other game employs these days, and Payday 3 should at the very least start having some of those before they start thinking about bringing players back. Someone like for who has everything already for instance really has zero incentive to come back for the next update because I already played Meth Off and Murky Station to death in 2 and doing it again in 3 gives me nothing there.

to be fair, payday 2 also had 10 years of updates

            Anonymous

Which is why I said wait a bit before a rerelease campaign, even if the two biggest things are fixed which are always online and progression, there will then need to be something to actually progress towards. I reached level 100 without shitting on the shitter even once and that took me 120 hours, but after that there's literally nothing else, so if progression is fixed and made much easier then that point of having nothing left will come much, much sooner to other players.

            >payday 2 also had 10 years of updates
This argument is stupid as fuck. Do you think devs mind wipe themselves before deving a sequel you fucking retard?
Payday 2 being refined for 10 years means Payday 3 should be EVEN MORE polished because they should have fucking LEARNED from their experiences
Seriously, try and explain why it makes sense to develop a game for 5+ years only for it to be strictly inferior to your last game and then charge a AAA price for it? You would have to be retarded

              >try and explain why it makes sense to develop a game for 5+ years only for it to be strictly inferior to your last game
They didn't develop it for 5+ years, the only experience they had with Unreal Engine was botching the FUCK out of The Walking Dead which is basically to say they had zero experience, their publisher Deep Silver is known to endorse fuckups and force the games they publish to include garbage design.
The game has been at MOST in development for one and a half to two and a half years.
              >and then charge a AAA price for it?
Its priced at 40 dollars but I agree that's still too much considering the silver and gold editions exist and those prices are absolutely inexcusable.

I've said this once and I'll say it again. The important people who designed Payday 2 are gone. They do not work for overkill. They left and made their own studios. Payday 3 isn't developed by the team that made Payday 2. It's developed by people hired after the team who made Payday 2 fucking quit.

Their lead game designer (and company founder) left to make the studio that made GTFO. Their other important director who made battlefield 3/bad company 2 bailed as well.

should I seriously expect the same devs to take 7 more years to add post-game lobbies or even text/voice chat, despite 2 already coming with those features on launch?

Shooting feels wierdly floaty, I can't put my finger on it. Using ADS makes me miss more shots than just hip firing.

I will agree, stealth is easily the best imporvement they could have made, it's really good and I wish there were more maps to try it on

The gun/mask customization is really bad, every option and combination just makes your gun look like a toy. Where are the cool patterns that were introduced in PD2?
