This game is better than DMC1 in nearly every aspect, but somehow that game is the one that gets wanked over being "RE with swords".

They both actually started as Resident Evil projects, but DMC was much much further along as Resident Evil before it changed. They're both Resident Evil with guns, and anyone who doesn't say that for both is just misinformed.

Combo autism is how you build a cult following that will replay your game for 20 years. Onimusha is a better playthrough, but there’s no reason to replay it the way gays do with dmc

I played Onimusha 3 centuries ago, how are the first two?

first one is fricking great, I found it was much more rewarding to play with the original tank controls, analog just felt like cheating on my second playthrough.
second one is pretty good too but sacrifices a lot of atmosphere at the cost of new mechanics (it's more arcadey, 1 is more like RE, feels more survival horror)

Yea and re fans are just gonna play re, dmc’s core combat is different enough that it built a unique fanbase separate from capcoms Fighting games and RE.

          >Yea and re fans are just gonna play re
I'm pretty sure most old RE fans like onimusha

Because dmc1 has better combat that allowed juggles and more open experimentation. That’s literally it? It’s always been the thing that set dmc apart. Onimusha is a better game but it’s clear why dmc got the cult following.

Yes being able to learn advanced combos and juggles rewards player skill and time, meaning people will replay your game after beating it. There’s no replay value in Onimusha by comparison. That’s why it didn’t build a reverent cult like fanbase

resident evil has a speedrun community and same replayability without my autism janky juggling combos and DONTE MUST DIE difficukty

Yea and re has skill based aiming and recourse management that Onimusha most certainly didn’t, not to the same degree Atleast. Onimusha is both a poor man’s dmc, and a poor man’s re, not entirely satisfying to either group. Hence why it’s corpse is in capcoms vaults.

SKILL AIMING LUL , resource management in resident evil its a joke the only you re going with almost true ammo scarcity its because the crappy ADAPTATIVE DIFFICULTY

Continue to seethe, maybe they’ll let itsuno remake Onimusha and give it a proper combat system.

              >re has skill based aiming and recourse management that Onimusha most certainly didn’t
It literally has an insta-kill mechanic that applies to every enemy.

There's barely anything to work with in DMC1 in terms of combos and air combat. That doesn't really start until DMC3, even the style ranking is barely there in DMC1. The only things DMC1 has over Oni1 is the DT mechanic (which later games do have as well) and the mission structure which makes your playthrough more linear and grades you more regularly.

Resident evil mechanics revolve around the game being stiff

Yes and that makes it a shit action game, there’s overlap in the fan bases but the reality is people who love dmc don’t neccarily like re. Which is why the RE elements got progressively less pronounced as the series progressed

unfortunately the aspects in which it's not better then dmc1 are the ones that make dmc1 a pioneer in 3D action games (60 fps, juggles and animation cancels) while onimusha is a ps1 game with higher polycount right down to the pre rendered backgrounds

      >the aspects in which it's not better then dmc1 are the ones that make dmc1 a pioneer in 3D action games
That's not the issue though. The problem is people pretending anyone liked DMC1 for the RE similarities when Onimusha was way better at being that.

Onimusha is super fun and I would probably replay it pretty often if not for the fricking slide puzzle and the bug boss
