Based opinion OP. SA2 is a kino chad game with metric frick ton of soul. Life was simply better when it came out. I wonder if we'll ever get a game as kino as it ever again.
The way it plays its ridiculous story and setting completely serious really makes it. Someone asked me about Shadow the Hedgehog recently and I had to explain he's an alien hedgehog hybrid that was created because Robotnik was trying to cure the Sonic version of AIDS because the story was written when the HIV/AIDS crisis was on fairly recent and I realized how funny that is.
Please post evidence of sonic aids, that sounds hilarious
.
.
Only issue, and it's not even a major one, what the frick was Pumpkin Hill? Loved it, but like, there's a lot of vidya staple locations you see reused time and time again, sonic was the only series I knew that's done "Halloween" the level at least 3 times between SA2, Heroes, and Ow the edgehog
Gerald Robotnik joins Project Shadow because he has the ulterior motive of finding a cure for his granddaughter Maria Robotnik who has a disease called NIDS (Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome). The name of that illness is pretty much exactly the same as AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). The game was developed in the late 90's which was only a couple years after the HIV/AIDS crisis was all over the media in the 90's.
OK, I follow that, is it being 'sonic aids' it just being Segas version of AIDS then? Originally I read your post as like, 'sonics aids' or 'aids only a sonic can cure', which makes more sense to make a genetic duplicate but is also even more buckwild lmao
Sega version yes. Sonic games take place on Earth but it's not quite the same Earth as ours, like for example instead of the USA there is the United Federation which still has a president who lives in the white house but its I'm Central City.

If you like this I recommend the new Kirby game, it's the same sort of feeling of absurdly serious tone in a completely goofy universe.
Agreed OP this was when sonic stories and music and even 3D gameplay was at all time KINO
if the sonic adventure series ever comes back the devs need to study this diamond of a game and what worked/didn't for SA3
My biggest theory is that the core of the kino/soul of SA2 was stealing soul from shonen battle manga/anime that kinda japanese kino but progressed into a video game 3D platformer somehow; and the reason modern sonic games fail is because they dropped any grittyness that was close to adult themes in the slightest and started to try and turn sonic into a western saturday morning cartoon instead of a Shonen battle anime and it ruins what makes (modern) sonic cool to me personally. (Classic 90's sonic is good as its own thing though)
This game is so fricking kino, I love how sincere it is.
Frick man now I have to replay these games. Replayed SA2 few months back, holds up ever better than it did 20 years ago except for the silly cutscenes.
Play SA2 with the mod that makes it into one big story. This honestly works so much better in terms of pacing and even adds small narrative twists that weren't even there, it makes me 99% conivinced this is the way the game was actually planned out instead of the Hero/Dark split which just feels like a marketing thing.
>I love how sincere it is
is this the new term for zoomers who don’t understand that people weren’t afraid of doing things unironically because they MIGHT get ridiculed. I hate zoomers so much it’s unreal.
Kind of, sincerity in media is all but dead in the west and some sections of media in Japan after all.
No reason for h8n m8, sincerity really has become a pretty novel thing to look back on. I think culturally it's gotta level out and come back in some form, shits p oversaturated and pandering rn. Shit like TLOU and HZD will never get my money
I have more hope for the artistic integrity of indie developed games, with the occasional big developers doing something nice. But as far as budget is considered I hate that I agree with you, the scope of videogames quick popularity and graphical improvements at the time had people doing wild shit cause everything going 3-D was still a new beast I guess. I think triple A devs just won't give up "story driven, 4k mocapped actors that do a shitton of cutscenes with less than mid fps game play"
in japanese
the dub is cringe(kino occasionally if they didn't fricking remove the japanese ost)
Sega needs to take another shot at adapting Sonic as an anime, Sonic X had the right idea but it just needed to fricking dump chris and the main human cast
Adapt Adventure 1, 2, Heroes, Shadow, etc with a revolving cast of humans if necessary and that's it
A long running Sonic anime would've been great and very possible if Sega didn't try to capture the Pokemon/Digimon fanbase in both America and Japan by turning Sonic into a "Human with fantasy colorful animal friends" anime
I never beat SA2 but goddamn I think that first level snowboarding in San Francisco will forever be stuck in my brain as one of my favorite moments playing a game as a kid.
>Want to play as Sonic
Be forced into playing as million other characters with absolutely shit gameplay, making a sonic game only like 1/8th about Sonic.
Frick this game, the only way to have fun with it is to download a completed save file and only play the Sonic and Shadow levels in level select.
At least in Adventure 1 everyone had separate campaigns so you could just stop after finishing Sonic's.
I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but it's a terrible game. The Sonic and Shadow levels are solid, not mindblowing but alright. But the hide and seek missions are boring and the tails/eggman missions are unbearable with how slow and wonky the controls are in the robots. The Chao garden is fine but overrated and forces you to grind heavily.
Reminder that Chaos is an underrated parallel to Sonic on the same level as Shadow and Knuckles. >Both have an overall blue, spiky shape with green eyes >Both are also freaks of nature with absurd power that get stronger via the Chaos Emeralds >Both act as retribution for the mistreatment of nature, with Chaos taking it way too far >It Doesn't Matter says that Sonic doesn't dwell on the past because it prevents him from living life to the fullest, while Chaos does what it does entirely because of the past >Super Sonic is powered by the hopes of everyone else in SA1, while Perfect Chaos is powered entirely by his own hatred >Open Your Heart's lyrics say that Chaos and Sonic are one and the same outside of morality
>>Open Your Heart's lyrics say that Chaos and Sonic are one and the same outside of morality
I think these lyrics are actually referring to eggman >You and I are the same in the way that >We have our own styles that we won't change
This implies a familiarity with the subject of the lyrics, which would be weird if they were referring to Chaos. >Yours is filled with evil, and mine is not
Chaos isn't really evil, hes just misguided and pissed off because the echidnas fricked up the chao's shit hundreds of years ago and has been brewing inside of the master emerald for a long time.
Your other comparisons are pretty cool though, I never noticed the blue "skin"/green eyes similarity.
According to Sega and lead writers, Sonic Frontiers will feature the darkest, most somber narrative in the entire franchise, even compared to Shadow's spinoff and 06. >"There's no real 'good guys' in this story"

I have very strong doubts about the ability of an open world game to deliver an interesting story. Look at BotW, Zelda games have been known for their stories for a while and despite the overall quality of the game it barely had one. Ironically the weird low budget musou spin off tells a much more entertaining story with the same characters.
>Sonic Frontiers will feature the darkest, most somber narrative in the entire franchise
they never said that
they said it would feature a somber tone and that's it.
look at this official render and tell me it's going to be more grimdark than shadow
every single one of shadow's renders dripped pure edge

The new Kirby game was great and really felt like what I'd been missing from Sonic since the meta era began
It really did remind me a lot of SA. Wonder if they took some inspiration from it. The final boss guy felt a lot like chaos.
>The controls didn't age well

Saturday morning works for disjointed platforming levels like lost world but you need shonen for building an adventure world and story
SONIC ADVENTURE 2
LAST EPISODE
WISHES ARE ETERNAL
One of the last games made with SOUL
I prefer the sincerity of SA1 but this one's not bad either
Frick man now I have to replay these games. Replayed SA2 few months back, holds up ever better than it did 20 years ago except for the silly cutscenes.

nah it’s over anon everything made from now on will oversocialized trash.

No you spastic, it's one of the most mocked video games of all time so he just said that, get a grip you fricking nutjob.
How does sonicX hold up bros? Is it worth a watch??
cringekino
Will start a watch soon. Thanks anon
Anon is correct about cringekino
I tried watching it drunk to have a nostalgia laugh and was reminded how much I hate this pointless frick
I watched that show for years as a kid and I actually forgot Chris was a character who existed. There was a black kid also wasn't there?
Yes, he's the token black guy.
in japanese
the dub is cringe(kino occasionally if they didn't fricking remove the japanese ost)

ATTENTION ALL UNITS
SUBJECT IS HEADING SOUTH
BLOCK ALL MAJOR ROADS AND CAPTURE SUBJECT
Is this the most iconic opening in video games?
>beat kicks in the second Sonic lands on the ground
It's one of them, for sure

There are 30 stages in SA2, 10 of which being Sonic/Shadow. It's 1/3rd.
It's where vidya peaked, there have been many good games since but none manage to top it.
yo how do i transfer my dx chao to sa2b (steam version)
yo how do i transfer my sperm to rouge's vegana (bat pussy)
I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but it's a terrible game. The Sonic and Shadow levels are solid, not mindblowing but alright. There's a reason they never made an Adventure 3.

BUT YOU CAN HARDLY SWALLOW
SA2 is the Deus Ex of platformers
Think about it
That Sonic Boom show is drunk kino
Regardless of how moronic SA2 was I wish more games had the guts to try such a serious story (without being a homosexual movie game)
According to Sega and lead writers, Sonic Frontiers will feature the darkest, most somber narrative in the entire franchise, even compared to Shadow's spinoff and 06.
>"There's no real 'good guys' in this story"
They said the same shit about Forces.
No, they didn't.
Yeah but that was penned by the Pontaff dude, this one is features the Archie/IDW writer, and those comics are moronicly serious

Based also Stellagay is that you?
I never got into this one, don't know why, prefer SA1's more realistic level design and Heroes is my favorite 3D Sonic game period.
