Yeah the switch is only more powerful on paper. In reality you have to design games around mobile mode battery life which has really fricked some of the games on the system. It's extremely unfortunate and I wish Nintendo just let its devs make games that are 'home console only' and not intended for use in mobile mode. But salarymen playing games on the train to work are a core demographic of theirs.

As an idort (excluding xbox because there is no reason to own one if you have a gaming pc) there is literally nothing wrong with emulating nintendo games. I only still buy them for the physical addition to my collection. In fact I have almost 2x as many hours logged on CEMU Xenoblade X as I do on my physical version mostly because plugging my wii u in is inconvenient.

I will probably eventually play this on emulator once people have polished up the graphics like we have for dolphin xenoblade 1.

I haven't finished 3 yet so my opinion isn't final, but up until now I think the order goes 2 > 3 > 1 with the mention that gameplay-wise 2 and 3 are a lot better than 1 because their combat systems are more in-depth and 1's is very basic. I didn't really like X. The environments were amazing but I didn't like anything else about it and dropped it maybe 20h in.

Yes, it should be, though I believe OpenGL still suffers from a memory leak and at least on Vulkan there are graphical issues with some particles missing and some things appearing blindingly bright (like waterfalls and dust clouds), but there's no leak.

            Anonymous

Getting a stable 60FPS will likely not happen. Resolution scaling in 3 is still kind of iffy. There are some mods to the game to disable the super blurry dynamic resolution but there's still some blur left. Using the res scaling in Yuzu kind of works to get higher rendering resolution, as in some things become a bit sharper but you're not going to get anything that's perfectly razor sharp. I'm not actually sure if more shit needs to be modded/patched out of the game or if the emulators are doing something wrong with the res scaling. In 2 you can actually disable the blurry shit and run the game at razor sharp 4k, it looks excellent.

Well, if I can get 60fps at native res I'll play on emulator, if not, I'll continue on Switch.

X is basically “all wanderlust, no story”. If you like aimless meandering and increasingly bizarre side quests you’ll love it. It’s my favourite but I fully acknowledge it’s an acquired taste.
1 is refreshing in that it feels relatively toned down and grounded for the most part (until you’re 40 hours in and it goes full Kingdom Hearts). It probably executes the “you’re exploring giant bodies” thing the best of any entr.
2 is tough to swallow depending on your palette. Very interesting world with very flavor of the month tropey writing until the latter half of the game. Whether you like it or not depends on if you stomach the first half and really appreciate the second half (for me it was too little too late but plenty of people will swear by it).

          Pretty much this.
I will add that the aesthetics of the last few areas of 2 led to it having one of my favorite climaxes in vidya (even if the dialogue and interactions are still sort of clunky). As it stands it's my least favorite entry, but I feel like if it had the polish development time of 3 then it could've been the best. GOAT soundtrack, either way.

Play X and 2, I'd give 1 a miss personally recently went back and played the Switch remake and even with all the quality of life options it's really just not that fun to play. The story is slow and nonsensical after the first act

          Anonymous

To me it's the reverse, I just hate how grindy X is and the QoL stuff (like how to change party) is just atrocious complete with separate Skell inventories you ALSO have to manage at one specific station you always have to run to.

X is just an endurance test. It gives the term "single player MMO" really a justification. Because it IS an MMO down to the grind. It's story is also the worst out of all of them with the least interesting party members. Also the worst OST of the series.

If anything the Torna sequel is a good entry point due to it's shorter length and simplified systems (but still very interesting).

1's good, 2's shit mainly due to it being a bunch of harem tropes, 3 is mediocre, its not the worst but its definitely far from being great.
X is good, just different and unrelated to the other games. Much less of a heavy focus on story, more on just exploring and has an honestly mind blowing looking open world for a Wii U game. Use Cemu for best experience.

Play in order, starting from either Xenogears or Blade 1 depending on if you're willing to go play PS1/2 era jarpigs. All of them are worth playing (saga 1 and 2 are the most contentious but they're still good)

Imo the series in terms of quality is XBCX > XBC3 > XBC2 > XBC.

XBCX feels like they had a proper design document for how every system should work together while the others are very slow and hold your hand to an insane degree, 3 by far the most. But it's story is lacklustre so I understand why people don't like it. From a game point of view it's the only Xenoblade I've 100% finished because the way the achievement system works encourages 100% completion anyway.

2 has better character design but it's more character focused than story focused.
3 was appealing to the west this time around which is why 3 is the first Xeno without any lewd designs. Story is definitely a mixed bag though.

        Anonymous

I should have put in a power gap between XBCX and XBC3 in hindsight. 3 feels rushed, 2 WAS rushed but in a different way. Both are okay but not as good as XBCX imo simply because the stories are boring, the world isn't fun to explore lots of gatekeeping behind skills and very little in the way of organic exploration. The battle systems in 2/3 are also very fricking slow and feel like pulling teeth at times.

      >It’s my favourite but I fully acknowledge it’s an acquired taste.
Finally someone says it. I see X elevated as the ideal, perfect video game of all time, the greatest thing that's ever happened to the medium. But it is so janky and weird that I wouldn't be surprised if a huge number of people were put off by it. I myself wasn't captivated by it at all, but really none of the Xenoblade games have managed to hold my attention beyond 20 hours. Also when people say XCX has great music it feels like they are being contrarian on purpose because the music is actually bad. I can't talk about the game at all or else I'm a "filtered secondary" but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills whenever I see this game praised. I can understand why people would like it, and I enjoy my fair share of janky, 'rough around the edges' games, but I've only ever seen people call XCX a flawless masterpiece and it's incredibly off-putting.

i mean xcx has unequivocally the crappiest xenoblade story, you pretty much just play it for the exploration and gameplay. in a series where the story is usually the main driver, it can be offputting

2 is fun but pretty slow up until Chapter 4/5 when the story actually progresses a bit and you escape tutorial hell.
Tone wise 2 is a lot more lighthearted than DE but story wise I preferred 2 overall. The last 2 chapters particularly are great.

Doesn't matter anon, XB3 is canon no matter how much you try and cope about it. And again, harem tropes doesn't mean the end result is a Harem. There are plenty of harem manga and anime that do eventually end with the MC picking a girl, granted most newer ones just have the MC get every girl.

Yep. Even more ironic that their reductive interpretation is due to anime brain rot. Some how a guy with wild spiky hair that does nothing but teleports behind you isn't anime but a diver sending money to his village is peak week. It makes no fricking sense. Which is why you get morons like this

Not him but by far the worst Xeno game. There's not anything explicitly awful about it, but it also offers absolutely nothing new or noteworthy.
        >one (1) bland, grass land area
        >zero memorable characters
        >zero interesting story beats
        >combat copy-pasted directly from 1 with chain attacks removed and less party member options
        >half of the soundtrack reused from the base game
Not even Xenosaga EpII left such a bad taste in my mouth.

          Anonymous

It didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth because I viewed it as bonus content. I bought DE for a remake of 1 and got a free epilogue chapter. It would have been better to have reworked the shoulder back into the main game but it probably needed too much moving stuff around, and Melia doesn't sound the same anymore and it would have been jarring to have it in the middle of the game.

    i only played x
dunno what to think about 3
i like the party a hell lot more than the one in x especially because the mc in x is a mute non-character
i like the story so far into chapter 4. x’s story was bad even if you take away the trash-tier ending
i think the combat is slightly worse than x. chain attacks is kinda boring and the heavy reliance on party mechanics with weird ai and design choices let it down. healers have tiny aoe heals and buffs but enemies have tank cleaves and dps are running around everywhere due to positionals. you lose dps for moving so it feels very clunky
    the environments are really boring

somehow i still can’t put the game down. i think the class system is really fun and incentivises exploration and experimenting with builds a lot. it’s kind of hampered by the shittastic cp system that punishes you for overlevelling but i just slapped on a cp multiplier cheat lol. also i love the party so i feel like i’m able to tolerate a lot of crap just to go on a journey with them

like ok skell combat isn’t exactly engaging but skells are so cool. i love that all the weapons and frames are reflected on the robot itself and they have cool animations especially the superweapons and the transformers mode all the skells can do
if they made skell combat fun and engaging + make the transformers feature actually useful i’d diehard simp for x regardless of how shitty the story or ground combat was
it’s also why i want an x2 so bad

      Anonymous

x has more good ideas than it does good execution but that’s all the more reason to revisit it. personally I want them to do more with the aliens (some races would make very interesting party members and getting their arms manufacturers to see their new armors was always a highlight)

      Anonymous

I would actively fight without the skells as much as possible because the combat was so bad. Not that on the ground was much better. I always see people complain about the story, but combat in X is the weakest part by far - saved only by how good the custom class system is.

        Anonymous

I'd say the proportions are good in 3 as well, but 1 and especially 2 were definitely wonky. Seeing Rex, Pyra and Vandham standing next to each other looked so fricking moronic.
But yeah I liked the models in X as well, faces aside. The armor designs were fricking stellar as well and don't get enough credit.

It was the last time they had most of their staff working on one of their own games. There's Monolith staff who worked on 1 and X who STILL haven't gone back. Norihiro Takami, the art director for 1 and X who also worked on enemy design and motion capture, has been doing Zelda cutscenes ever since X just to name one example.

There's a lot of things in X that just feel great and somehow never came back, too. Movement and the open world as you mentioned but also the enemy bestiary that goes into each unique species and has full stats, collectibles having descriptions and illustrations.

So chances are, even if we ever get an X2, it will still be gimped? That is beyond tragic.

Do the various colony leader Ascension quests require doing every quest in their colony to become available? Or does it depend on the affinity with the colony? Or do they just need a few certain quests done as part of a chain?

fwiw teach's unlocks after doing the teaching questline in colony gamma which kind of makes sense since it's quite linear.

i'm not as sure about lambda/tau/iota/9 since they have a bunch of sidequests going at once and it's not entirely obvious if any/some/all are required

Is anyone else running into the problem where the sidequests feel non-canon and bizzare with how weird the commanders act, how the consuls act, and how inconsequential the rest of the colony people are or their flame clocks or how stilted the dialogue is. Sidequests and heroquests feel non-canon.
Main quest meanwhile has some really badly handled tokusatsu-tier villains (which could be executed well!) that take me out of it.
I'm actually loving the MC cast interaction scenes the most going through the game along with the gameplay itself.
Also the subs don't seem accurate?

I hate to bring up X amidst all of the shitposting going on in these threads, but X seriously did a much better job of showing discontent between groups than 3 did despite it being a big focus and 3 and merely the topic of a few side quests in X.
After I recruited Valdi and realized colony liberation quests would be a large optional component I got excited, but in actuality the colony liberations just feel like an afterthought that happens in the middle of an unrelated hero quest. Same goes for the consuls that unceremoniously frick off whenever you free a colony. The concept is awesome but it just feels underbaked.

XC1 was solid. Good foundation but is your standard Man vs Fate story. It's good soil to build off from.

XC2 also solid but poor voice direction and the gacha mechanic is a tumor on it. Story is better than 1s because it both builds off 1 and is a Man vs Man story, meaning both sides of the conflict are very fleshed out to make it compelling.

XC3 is continued improvement but by choosing a Man vs World story fundamentally focuses less on making every character well fleshed out and is more about the characters overturning the order of the World and addressing every reason why they shouldn't. It's compelling though and plays well with it's concepts and the game is good

XCX is good but flawed it does so many things right but Takashi got too wienery after 1 and thought he could get away with not telling a complete story and it bit him in the ass. The main cast is the weakest of the games (Save for Elma who probably could have carried the entire game if she was the protagonist) and the character art direction exist in an uncanny middle ground. Best world of all the games though.

Takashi really just needs to take a world like X and focus on character writing like in 2/3 and he'd have perfect JRPG because when he hits HE HITS, it's just that he can't hit perfectly 10/10 times and when he misses he misses hard

Game left me with a few questions and predictions.
First of mobius Z, what exactly is he? I understood it as the fears and wants of the two universes somehow given form through the energy unleashed as the two universes began to clash into one another, is this the right idea?

Second, does this third world with the b***hqueen and CO persist in a trinity with the other two or what the hell happened to them? Is mechon sword and uraya just copies copied from the origin or will they not go back to their original universe just like the people (or souls I suppose)

By the end it looks like the worlds rebooted at the desired time leaving the people of said worlds oblivious to what their souls went through. Obviously at some point in what i presume to be the chapter 8 dlc they will begin to remember their time in Ionios, at least the main cast. What is the mechanism with which they will be able to reunite? Will it perhaps be due to the return of the Zohar?

Will Melia and Nia retain their memories of Ionios or will they be subject to the reboot as well? Is hiding the truth of Mios ancestry the reason why we do not get to see te Angus side at the beggining/end?

      >Z
I think that's about it, yes. Something about the Origin turned all of those stored minds into what became Z
      >World
It's a failed fusion. The merge between the two worlds began, but instead of completely forming another world, Z froze it into Ionios. The other two worlds stop existing once the merge is complete.
      >DLC
They're going to meet because the worlds will merge again in the future, but correctly this time. What that will look like we don't really know.
      >memories
Don't really know this one. I assume they have partial memories like everyone else.

      Anonymous

      >Z
Origin was to collect and house all the information on the souls of everyone from both worlds so that they could be remade after the intersection ended. That much collective human unconscious manifested into an existence known as Z and the greater Moebius whole. Everyone being afraid that the plan wouldn't work and that everyone would just die and how they wished they could instead live forever in the moment before it all happens. Z manifests, inside Origin and the Collective Unconsciousness wills the worlds to stop as by Shulk's design in XB1 "everyone gets to decide the future"

      >Third world
That's unknowable. It was a failed fusion but you're correct in the assumption that we do have people who were born there that don't technically belong to either other world. We'll probably find out in the future what happened

      >Worlds connected
Memories are etched onto peoples souls. They can't be scrubbed off and it only takes the right stimuli to wake them up as in the ending. The worlds are likely close enough/connected enough after the intersection that people can just slip between em as they slowly settle back into one universe.

      >Melia and Nia
Everyone will retain the memories. It just depends on how much they reawaken too. If they are just fleeting dreams and nightmares or if the entire experience is brought back to them

Graphics have mostly stagnated. Whatever is looking better since 2010 is mostly brute-forcing with stronger hardware for minimum gains. That's part of the reason they brought back the ray-tracing meme, so the games can look a little better for huge hardware demand. A marketing tactic mostly.

the very very end of xb2 references xb1 and kinda ties them together but otherwise they're completely separate and you'll lose close to nothing by playing 2 without playing 1.

3 ties into the previous games a bit heavier than that but i think you can easily play 3 standalone and have a good experience and you'd be able to go back and play 1 and 2 later to get a feel for how it all ties in.

I no longer own any of these.
In fact, XB3 might be the last vidya I play. I've been phasing out of the hobby for a few years now, and in fact hadn't played anything in months before this. Just needed my Xeno-closure I guess.

Xenosaga 1 had a great foundation, its MAIN drawback is the lack of music everywhere (you'd know that if (you) played it.
Xenosaga 2 had a complex battle system and weaker story sure, but XS3 was a damn masterpiece and had a godsent soundtrack and characters.

The main issue with Xenosaga is the lack of episode 4. But sure, """"contrarianism""", stay moronic.
The ONLY thing that Xenoblade does better is arguably the open world, everything else Xenosaga does better

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Xenosaga is missing 4 and 5. Xenosaga was supposed to have 6 titles.
You can see how rushed 3 is. Also, XS2 is the best, even though KOS MOS looks like she's 46 and barely has any lines. Ziggy best character in trilogy.

no, it's MAIN drawback (that you'd know if (you) played it) is its shit pacing. As usual, Takehashi himself admits the game was fricked on gameplay as he went too hard on the story. Timelines were missed and the game barely escaped dev hell, but the absolute dogshit pacing through all three titles shows and shows hard.
It deserves its shit scores and shit reputation. But everyone is just plebs except for you, the True Master of Taste™, right, tardo? Also, have a nice day for simping for the WORST Xeno protag bar fricking none.

Sure man. Even the director of the game is wrong, right? It's a masterpiece that nobody but you can see KEK
              >“We released three games in the Xenosaga series, but they weren’t very well received,” Takahashi admits. “It was really mortifying. All of the young team members felt that way, not just the leaders. So we all decided, ‘Next time we need to make a game that players will enjoy (Xenoblade).’

Up under the health bar? If you fight a Unique Monster (the ones with orange wings on their health) the game tracks how long it takes you to win.

      they are unique boss monsters.
they spawn a grave site when you kill them and you can fight them again.
the timer is just to see how fast you can beat them. it really doesnt mean shit but obviously the monsters are going to be much harder than regular ones and the blue icon ones.

X is still my personal favorite Xeno game of the Blade series, but 3 is really good and probably my second favorite just beating out 1 due to how simplistic that game is which while good is kinda underwhelming going back to it. 2's combat system is also notable but damn does it really make you have to work for it like with the shitty gacha system first, then affinity chart, then affinity rank to S+ and then farming for the legendary aux/equips which is not that bad anymore I guess. Its one of the rare example of "Yes you should rush to new game + to make grinding far less shitty".

FFS Monolith, your games shit all over nuTales and FF, but you desperately need to hire an intern for pacing

I was level 46 in chapter 3 kek. On one hand exploring a region the first time you come into it is easier and less backtracking later on, but then your classes get all messed up and the main story becomes a joke.

I just got Valdi. My team is lv 46 and I have 46 hours of playtime.
I know I should play the main story, but frick it. I want to clear the map.

I would love to clear monsters in first map to "enable" item creating machine, but IIRC all the monsters are lv 60 and I don't think I can take them, especially because I'm playing on hard.

You know what's the funnies part? 200k dmg is the max damage I did in combo. Only 200k. I don't even follow the break, topple, launch or whatever the pattern is. I just hit how I want.
