That's how I felt about BotW. However, even though exploring the overworld has always been my favorite part of every Zelda, it doesn't change the fact that Zelda needs item progression and some kind of dungeons/temples/underworld to be a "true" Zelda.
For the record, most 3D Zeldas aren't even true Zelda's. The people bitching about BotW think that Twilight Princess or the like are "true" Zeldas. But they just have the opposite problem of BotW and TotK. Tons of focus on items and dungeons, but no overworld. Aonuma really can't do all three in one game. It's like he's allergic to following the formula. Or he's doing it intentionally to be "different."
I had a ton of fun in BOTW never entering a single dungeon and just heading around the map and grabbing the shrines and koroks as I went along, doing cool shit.
It's funny that once I finished exploring and started the dungeons I zipped through them all in an afternoon and thought 'that was it?' I realize I should have paced exploration between dungeons, but it was a crappy way to experience the game when all the frontloaded shit was full of killing superstrong Lynels and solving creative shrine puzzles using unorthodox methods and the dungeons were a major step down.
It's a good game but definitely flawed. TOTK not fixing that is very worrying for the future of this franchise
Ancient Zora Waterworks should've been the water temple. It was a much better area than some more fucking floating islands in the sky. Would've need diving to do it justice though.
Every lead up to each dungeon was fucking amazing specially the lead up to the Spirit Temple. Seriously how did they get that right but dropped the ball with the dungeons?
Shame I hate the Depths. Spirit lead up at least had a gimmick tying it togther but Fire lead up was lazy. Lucky Fire Temple was arguably the best temple though.
Probably because the Switch is a piece of shit game that couldn't handle dungeons without loading screens. The Fire Temple ran at like 20fps and it was the biggest dungeon in the game
I hate retards that say this. The quests that lead up to the dungeons are just main quests that give you access to the dungeons. They are not the part of the dungeons.
no. i ended up gliding there and accidentally landing right next to the end. didnt even know what it was and all of a sudden im opening the door. i would like to praise it but it wasnt just a few hours later that i realized i had done ALL of the story content before having spoken to Purah about any of it. i had accidentally done everything and felt like it hadnt even started.
This
How do retards not get that they pull this same formula with the shrines as well? Half the shrines are Rauru's blessings because the puzzles are outside of the shrine
>that one shrine where you literally just had to glue a ball to a spinning wheel and retrieve it one floor up
in what world can that even be considered a puzzle
P-PLEASE UNDERSTANDU THE SWITCH IS LIKE A PHONE YOU SEE....ONLY MOST PHONE GAMES LOOK 10X BETTER AND DON'T NEED THE TENDO SHEEN TO HIDE THE LOW QUALITY OF THEIR GAMES...B-BUT ANYWAY YOU HAVE TO OVERLOOK EVERYTHING THATS WRONG WITH THESE GAMES BECAUSE THEY WERE ACTUALLY MADE FOR...FOR CHILDREN YES NO WAI-ack
Do Consolefags really?
I got completely stuck for a while because I had no idea how to activate the water switches. Didn't realize Sidon stopped following me and I had to walk to a certain spot to get a cutscene to start to have him follow me again
I flew up to this dungeon and got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do for like an hour+ and then found out you need some random guy with magic water to move things instead of regular water. I was punished for exploring for no reason.
I still don't understand why they were called temples. Just call 'em by their fucking names, those were a lot cooler.
Shame the level design is straight ass, again.
Good thing the other parts of the game outside dungeons were fun
>actual toddler tier puzzle shrines
>empty open world with nothing fun to do
>empty underground world with even less fun things to do
wowzers so fun
I got 100 hours out of it. I had fun. It was a great time.
Cool.
For the those of us with actual standards and an IQ in the triple digits it is a very underwhelming experience however.
I play like two games a year, it was enough for me. Got really difficult towards the end.
Yeah it gets difficult to not fall asleep from boredom.
Go back
Yeah, I am sure the most intelligent people are playing fucking nonstrategy type videos games.
You would be surprised.
post the games you like anon
Elden Ring, Fallout New Vegas, Baldurs Gate 3
>new IP
hmm
>actual toddler tier puzzles
Yes brainlet its a zelda game
They were never that hard but you can't say with a straight face that totk dungeons are on the same level as Oracle of Ages dungeons
they are still a level above the garbage you got in twilight princess
>NOOOOOOOO MY HECKIN' CHILDREN'S GAME MUST APPEAL TO MY LEVEL OF SKILL
I think you might be the wrong target audience for this game.
No, they weren't

Exhibit A of the modern tendie. What a fucking disgrace.
They need to make it simple or else zoomers will drop it
Would have been great as a fully fleshed out traditional dungeon
The dungeon includes the parts that weren't in the dungeon proper.
>the dungeon includes the parts that aren't the dungeon
By that logic the same extension should be made to prior Zeldas
I beat this temple in under ten minutes not including the boss. what a joke
The next zelda should just be oot/tp zelda with an open overworld
i glitched thru the whole temple jumping like a retard
kino and objective GOTY
Ganker will die mad about it
why are you using a kinomaster as the avatar for your cringe post?
Why does it look so foggy
Because it's a the water temple and tons of water leads to tons of fog/mist.
Everywhere else is foggy cause the graphics are shit though.
The twist is interesting but the buildup to the dungeon was more interesting than the dungeon itself, same with the rito dungeon.
Hated this Water Temple in particular. It just felt like a test map for some shrines.
The journey to get to it felt more temple-like.
Ancient Zora Waterworks should've been the water temple. It was a much better area than some more fucking floating islands in the sky. Would've need diving to do it justice though.
TotK has the best lead ups to the dungeons in the entire series.
Every lead up to each dungeon was fucking amazing specially the lead up to the Spirit Temple. Seriously how did they get that right but dropped the ball with the dungeons?

Ever consider that Thunderhead Island was the actual dungeon, and the Spirit Dungeon was the bossfight for it
No because that's not the case.
>ummmmm actually the dungeon is the part that isn't the dungeon
Such cope.
>a dungeon HAS to be an actual dungeon, or its not a real dungeon
alright, so I guess this isn't a dungeon, thanks for clearing that up
>is explicitly labelled as "Snowpeak Ruins" as soon as you walk through the front door
>"urr hurr I guess this one isn't a dungeon also"
Peak retard
A ruin is not a dungeon, anon.
I will now accept your concession.
It's a completely different structure of game/dungeon design. By your logic you could label any sky Island in TotK as a dungeon.
No u
nta or anyone, but truly stfu now.
>nta or anyone
I hate retards that say this. The quests that lead up to the dungeons are just main quests that give you access to the dungeons. They are not the part of the dungeons.
>ever consider the blatantly wrong thing I just pulled out of my ass?
no. i ended up gliding there and accidentally landing right next to the end. didnt even know what it was and all of a sudden im opening the door. i would like to praise it but it wasnt just a few hours later that i realized i had done ALL of the story content before having spoken to Purah about any of it. i had accidentally done everything and felt like it hadnt even started.

The one where I made the wheel into a watermill and it just didn't work for like 10 minutes.

I swear, you autists will be on your deathbeds continuing to seethe about BotW & TotK.
Sounds more fun than seething about OOT and MM
who ever actually seethes about OoT and MM?
seriously, show us someone, because I am pretty sure you are making up people to be mad at here.

Reminder
I got completely stuck for a while because I had no idea how to activate the water switches. Didn't realize Sidon stopped following me and I had to walk to a certain spot to get a cutscene to start to have him follow me again
Moragia should've had at least 3 phases so i could fully listen to this music
I apparently skipped an entire phase of this fight by flying under him and shooting from there
Oh wait I have brain damage and got the name wrong. Never mind
Actually getting inside the Water and Wind temples were better than the actual temples.
I flew up to this dungeon and got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do for like an hour+ and then found out you need some random guy with magic water to move things instead of regular water. I was punished for exploring for no reason.
freedom has its consequences
