>mid
I usually don't really mind the language of the young, words always shift and slang evolves, but this one is nonsense. If it was used to mean "middling" or "average" that would at least have some sense to it, even if it's utterly pointless because you could say average. But it's from a previous period of misuse of "mediocre" to mean "shit". So, it's a zoomified way of saying "mediocre" because zoomers struggle with syllables, but then it doesn't even mean that, it means "bad". Brain addled slugs.
>it's actually a design philosophy
It's not a design philosophy either. If it were a coherent design philosophy then there wouldn't be such radical design differences between every game that you try to prescribe with this term.
soulslikes is another one close to being a buzzword term that is used too often to describe a certain game design choice but isn't often reflective of every aspect of how Dark Souls was designed. So yeah, I'd be picky about that one as well. But it still can arguably be a real genre if it's copying most of the template. There are probably some genuine 'soulslikes' but it's still trying to use a certain game mechanic and saying this is worthy of calling it a genre.
>It's more a philosophy
emergent gameplay is a meme term on top of the already meme non genre/poorly defined supposed design philosophy. There's so many games you can call emergent that play nothing like System Shock or Deus Ex.
Arx Fatalis is an rpg. That's all it is. And just like Gone Home's devs, Colantonio can use this stupid word all he pleases, but it's nothing more than some marketing buzzword to nickle and dime people who were fans of a few old games into buying their newer shitty ones. That's how Warren Spector used it to sell Deus Ex originally as some cutting edge PC game. I don't blame him for using those incredibly markety words like 'immersive' and 'simulation' because you have to make your game look appealing. But it's important to put things into perspective about what it really was. Purely marketer speak taken out of context, although Spector should start apologizing eventually for playing into these delusions of people online in thinking they could coin a genre out of it.
Not even "the guy that coined the term" likes it as a name.
The genre itself is almost the same as 1st-person-RPG with the exception of Thief at best unless you consider pre-mission preparation role playing.
>unless you consider pre-mission preparation role playing.
No i don't. Anyone who says Thief borrows design principles from RPGs is talking out of their ass. The closest you have to an RPG game in The Dark Project is Down in the Bonehoard, which is one of the dungeon crawling levels. However It's still not enough to be considered RPG though and that can easily fall into the adventure category. Stealth/Adventure would be a more accurate way to describe that.
Hey fellow gamers, did you like Thief The Dark project? well do i have the game for you. Try out my game where stealth isn't discouraged as playstyle called Dishonored. These games are totally similar and you're sure to love it because it's called an 'immersive sim'.
ok
They're really just adventure games.
What's the game on the left, Prey?
Yeah or as I like to call it, mid.
>mid

bro you just went on an unhinged rant where you were wrong about everything. Mid is like 8/10.
>mid is 8/10
anon, that literally Good in that scale, mid is 6/10, its not trash, but not good.
8 is great
mediocrity is bad.
Nobody says "good job" when you get a C unless you're doing the bare minimum to pass health inspection.
Yeah or as I like to call it, yid
Facts my bro
Yes, it's actually a design philosophy
>it's actually a design philosophy
It's not a design philosophy either. If it were a coherent design philosophy then there wouldn't be such radical design differences between every game that you try to prescribe with this term.
>radical design differences
Like what?
Comparison between Thief and Deus Ex. One is an RPG, the other is a stealth game. How they fit under this blanket categorization makes no sense.
Is it really? Care to elaborate?
>genre name coomplainer
so, which one filtered you?
>which one filtered you
I didn't like Prey or Dishonored. Felt like cheap imitations of games from Looking Glass.
Okay, so you were filtered by a third dimension then. Got it.
Oh boy, another 500 post semantic autism war that won't have any effect on the usage of the word
why there are 300 gorillion rogue likes?
And 500 soulslikes?
but 0 immersive sims? why only a small amount of devs try to make these?

see the first line:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immersive_sim
MGS V and Batman Arkham Knight are immersive sims. Wow!
Who cares about wikipedia anymore? it run by morons who approve all sorts of ridiculous articles now.
I don't see it as a real genre. Immersive Sim is just a meme word young people like to use. I don't mind either. Kids will be kids.
It's more a philosophy than a collection of gameplay elements
>It's more a philosophy
emergent gameplay is a meme term on top of the already meme non genre/poorly defined supposed design philosophy. There's so many games you can call emergent that play nothing like System Shock or Deus Ex.
>gone home is an immersive sim
Do you see why this meme needs to end?
>immersive sim
i prefer the term "air vent em up"
Pft, I know the code is always 0451
arx fatalis doesn't have vents

you really don't understand the philosophy behind immersive sims, try reading up on it some more
Ganker and Ganker couldn't even define an RPG.
Idc what the genre is called but I do enjoy these kind of games a lot ksmnmr
Hey fellow gamers, did you like Thief The Dark project? well do i have the game for you. Try out my game where stealth isn't discouraged as playstyle called Dishonored. These games are totally similar and you're sure to love it because it's called an 'immersive sim'.
where non stealth isn't discouraged.*
Again such radically different design choices. Why the fuck do you think these games belong being mentioned anywhere near each other?
