This is pure "fake grog" bait.
If you really wanted to be playing rank-and-flank fantasy miniature wargaming, you'd already be doing it, without needing GW to tell you to enjoy it again.

Sunk cost fallacy and brand becoming personal identity makes people act unwise.
The alternatives (OPR Age of Fantasy, Kings of War, 9th Age, previous editions of WFB and more) are already there, but some people would rather just complain.
Maybe GW realised that they are sitting on a frick load of books, art and other assorted shite they have sunk costs into themselves and have no way to make more money off.
Helped along by Total War and Vermintide doing well so anyone coming into a store looking for those will be out of luck.
Now the important part is why would anyone who has known about GW for more than 8 years trust them not to frick everything up again.
Where can I find plastic miniatures that can compete in quality with Bretonnian knights? I'll buy an entire army today, but it can't be resin or metal or ridge-covered 3D-printed crap.
Perry Miniatures Agincourt Knights. A development of the Perry brothers' Hundred Years War range from the late 80s/early 90s (that Foundry still make, but you don't want metal) which formed the backbone of the Bretonnian line until 5/6e and the iconic plastics you know and love. The modern PErry plastic HYW/Agincourt stuff is excellently Bretonnian and will not disappoint (although it is missing more great helms and elaborate crests- you may have to get creative for that). The kits are extremely versatile, not to mention good value (infantry 40 for £22, cavalry 12 for the same amount. Tons of bits and options)
Yeah because I like the Warhammer world and like playing a game that's still supported with both models and rules. I do play a mix of KoW and previous editions of Warhammer in the meantime, but I look forward to the having something new.
i reckon they are just going to sell reboxed WFB minis as if nothing happened. No new minis except for the Tau... i mean Cathay
Lets look at all the promo material
>tww pictures of Kislev
>tww pictures of Cathy
>art of the old otk on boar
>art of the old TK chariot
>art of some old Empire infantry
Nihil novi. Prepare your anus for 20 year old sculpts in finecast
if that happened I wouldn't be mad because I wasn't going to buy an army anyway, and that might mean that I'd be able to get my hands on a couple character sculpts I've wanted for a long time without having to fork over $50+ for out-of-print models
Game isn't even out yet and you're already making up excuses why you won't support it. Shocker.
>making up excuses why you won't support it
Bizarre choice of words, as it implies people have some kind of a duty to support new games. They don't. They can reject them for any reason or no reason whatsoever, and don't need excuses.
> Won't support it
homie they're a business. We don't have to "support" shit if we don't like them or their products.
Brand loyalty was a mistake.
Do we even know that it's on square bases? As with 40k, people care about the setting and making their little figurines fit in the setting. Being able to play with them using a shitty ruleset is just a dubious bonus.
yeah they said it will
Will the new warhammer be compatible with the older version products? Will us grogs be able to use our pre end times collections from the off, or will the game be based around having to start all over again and buy, assemble and paint completely new and incompatible model lines, jyst so we can continue to play the same fricking game? Their recent re-release of other original games (Adeptus Titanicus using a completely different scale from the original) doesnt bode well.
0 chance of that.
You are a fricking moron
Diagnosis: 0 IQ.
Doctor's orders: Commit suicide.
You will be able to use your old models at launch, in much the same way that AoS had rules for Tomb Kings and you could use 40k Tacticals in the Horus Heresy. Long term, you can guarantee that the expectation is that you buy into it once the community is stable.
For example, anyone who owns a Talabecland army will be able to play. The fact that Ao3E Talabecland are extremely hostile to the Cult of Sigmar means all your comet icons may as well be Chaos stars.
they said you can play older minis but thinking otherwise fall under mental moronation illness, the scale is still 28mm heroic whatever
They have explicitly said so, yes. Tbh I doubt they can be bothered to totally overhaul all miniatures lines for a non-flagship game. All of the art released so far (besides new factions Kislev and Cathay) is clearly illustrating the classic pre-End Times plastics (e.g Empire Greatswords, archers, militia, Bret knights and men-at-arms, TK chariot, Orc boar boyz). I would assume they plan to spend a number of years slowly going through and remaking each range.
I think at the very least the Empire will get a refresh of their core units in the first wave of releases. GW are clearly trying to put the civil war between the three emperors at the core of TOW and people are going to care even less about that if the supposed stars of the show are represented on the table by fantastic sculpts such as 'shoeless moron'.
Imagine going from this, a fricking stellar kit considering it's age to "ook ook aak priapic monkes"
It's almost hunchback chaos warrios levels of bad.
I hate these so much. Compare them to their predecessors or even their pro Gloria Landsknecht successors sculpted by the same guy.
What were they thinking?
they were thinking
>let's pay bobby intern $10 to shit out some slop for the paypigs
That guy later made these, so no GW paid a decent amount of money to get figures that look like that for some strange reason.
could have improved over time or used different tools
hard to say
the faces in the gw product are particularly terrible so I have to blame the hand of the sculptor
>hand of the sculptor
Heh
Yeah, perhaps. I wonder if the first box will be Empire vs Empire a la HH, with some nice looking but rigid monopose plastics whose design is later translated into a new multi-part kit. This seems to be their MO these days. What I want most of all is a new Knightly Orders box that adapts the riders from the Demigryph knights. Their armour and weapons look so slick, but the old plastic knights are so chunky and shit
I think it's reasonable to expect that GW will try as hard as possible to make grogs buy new stuff rather than use their old minis. We can definitely expect some scale creep in line with AOS, and the pre-firepower setting means they'll probably release Empire minis with a completely different look.
> pre-firepower setting
Lol, lmao even. Even ignoring the TOW artwork of a militiaman with a pistol, the Empire has had firepower for centuries. Mordheim had guns and that's set 500 years in the past. Steam Tanks were designed around the same time.
Imagine WANTING the original cluster frick that was epic "scale" back.
Current Adeptus Titanicus is more in scale with older epic than the ORIGINAL epic was
Exactly, it's for the people who go "I miss whfb" despite a) never playing it and b) are incapable of realising that something which isn't sold on the gw store is actually still playable and out there.
more options are more options
>how dare you want fantasy miniatures to be widely available for purchase again
>you must be a fake grog
Bruh, frick outta here with that sort of autism.
So you wait for something with no releas date, while GW gradually replaces still sold fantasy kits with redesign made with bigger bases in mind?
>fantasy miniatures to be widely available for purchase again
??????
Hello James Workshop, I'd like to purchase about 75% of the miniatures in your fine "high elves" range.
Oh no.
You can't just dismiss official support, fan enthusiasm, and game stores carrying a product like that.
I mean, there's nothing stopping me from buying Oathmark or Blood and Valor and they look like cool games. But the truth is that no one here would play them with me.
>no one wants to play anything but GW
>better also just play GW, no way am I also part of the problem I just want to play some toy soldiers
I play conquest the last argument of kings. No one else in my area does (though pic related is enticing a local buddy). I still get some games from people trying stuff and I prefer that from trying gw's sorry excuse for games.
I fricked up
>That disgusting overhang
>That action figure size scale
Repulsive
>Stop liking what I don't like.
Okay.
>you can't criticize obvious flaws in this thing I like, because I like it!
Okay.
>my autistic taste is not please.
> this is an obvious flaw.
Okay.
There's no way you can claim overhang is anything but a flaw, especially in a game where the models are supposed to rank up together.
And the shitty scale is (A) a mistake they had to roll with and (B) an obvious downside since it makes these miniatures incompatible with whatever others you may have in your collection.
But sure, keep shilling.
The trays give the minis breathing room to a degree large enough to give dynamism. Heroes go on a solo tray, giving them a shit ton of room.
>incompatible.
So you are just a battered gw wive that is too poor to give them further money.
>gw cuck speaking
I sleep
>gw cuck
Mate what? I haven't touched anything GW made after 6th edition WHFB, and have been shitting on GW in this same thread. This doesn't mean that I'm gonna let Conquest get away with their bullshit though.
To be honest I only join tow threads to talk shit about AoS. I already play other games and don't really care for GW trying to muscle back in.
I want to see what they come up with. Design is one thing, but GW's sculpts have undeniably gotten higher quality with the years and I'd like that sort of talent and resources applied to a low/dark fantasy setting like WFB. I wonder if they'll keep the small square bases though, modern rank'n'flanks tend to have some form of abstraction like circular-inside-square (see Conquest and ASOIAF) or base-is-unit like KOW to avoid the "can't pose models because they won't fit in B2B" problem.
And this is just me, but I do miss the old stats where everything feels like it's a representation of what the unit *is* instead of *does*, y'know? Like, no shade to AoS, it's a decent game in its own right, but the design of it feels like it's the other way around: a powerful melee unit gets, I dunno, Rend -3 or 3+ to wound on its attacks because it has to hit hard. Instead, in these older systems, a unit might be S5 because they're a S4 race wielding halberds and that's what the game effects are, and they're strong in melee as a result of it rather than the other way around. Of course the point that you could just play KOW or 9e or a modern RnF or just WFB itself is valid, but I am looking forward to what the writers will come up with, at the very least.
>low/dark fantasy setting like WFB
Confirmed for never having even touched the game.
Are we using the criteria of "how common is magic in the lives of the average citizen" for high/low? If so, what would you use instead? "Dirty" fantasy? "Grounded"? Whatever term you feel fits.
>I wonder if they'll keep the small square bases though
Pic related was one of the first things posted by GW about TOW so presumably they'll still be on squares (assuming they haven't changed their mind since then). Wouldn't be at all surprised to see the bases get a bit bigger for the new kits however, especially the chunkier units like Chaos Warriors.
Give me Old World Mordheim or Old World Killteam and I'm in like the prostitute that I am.
Mordheim is really popular at the moment, it does not need GW trying to come back and frick with it like Blood Bowl
>Official support for Mordheim in the form of new rules, miniatures and materials stopped in 2004, and in the years following, existing miniatures and rulebooks were also removed from sale.
How is it "really popular"? Do you mean you're just lucky enough to have an active local scene? Shit doesn't exist here.
Zoomers saw name on the wiki and use it as stolen valour
It, and Frostgrave, has mass-following and are completely community run. It's same with 40k Epic and Warmaster, just wish BFG had that level of following (since it does have fantastic 3D printing support).
Most of the specialist games have pretty big followings even though (perhaps because) they are out of print
not anywhere the scale of 40k normshit but none of the rest of the hobby is
I thought reboot Blood Bowl was pretty well regarded?
2016 ed, yes. nu, no.
yes
I don’t need a lecture on "real" WHFB players from some kid who has only ever played TWWH, thanks though.
>If you really wanted to be playing rank-and-flank fantasy miniature wargaming, you'd already be doing it,
i am. i am getting an army planned for AOF:Regiments. need to figure out what are some good 3d printable dwarfs.
Maybe the goal is to dangle the old world in front of fantasy players so that they won't jump ship to other systems, as they believe that the old world is just around the corner?
Highlands or kyoushuneko miniatures?
it seems as likely as anything else, I can't think of an explanation for why this game is total vaporware
warhammer is cool and the current 28mm rank and flank games on the market are ass
that being said I'm not planning on giving GW money anyway, unless I see some REALLY convincing shit. I don't know what would do it, I'm just leaving room open for the possibility.
Not that any of this matters because this games isn't real and it doesn't exist and it's never coming out.
Board's full of severe autists. Most are not club wargamers, they haunt stores for pick up games, even if they haven't anthropomorphised GW and developed a parasocial relationship with the company.
I still play it time to time and I couldn't care less about tow
I like the WHF world via Vermintide & the Total War Games and Im sure there are tons like me who want to play a ttg set in it. As soon as they come out with a big shiny plastic box for it the way they did HH tons will jump on. I probably won't buy it and will just print minis instead, but a big box release is bound to generate hype so I'm sure there'll be a bunch of guys who buy it I can play against, as well as AoS morons desparate enough to learn a new game just to do SOMETHING with their models.
>If you really wanted to be playing rank-and-flank fantasy miniature wargaming, you'd already be doing it,
R&F is part of the desire but at the end of the day setting is what will always make most decide. Nobody gives a shit about literal who settings, they want to frick around in the WHF setting
There are always TTRPGs. They are fun.
I would just like some Bretonnia kits, even reprints.
I'd just like to have something to play against somebody. Although not like anybody at my lgs is going to get into it, why why would you want to play anything other than Magic, 40k and d&d 5e after all.
>hamstring product distribution
>increase prices, decrease model quality+quantity
>absolutely no marketing whatsoever
>scam remaining fans with End Times content that gets blown up and discontinued along with the whole setting
>take a big fat dump on all of the lore just to be absolutely sure everyone hates it
>come out with new IP that absolutely no WHFB fan likes
>toss out the WHF license and finally let everyone run wild with it
>fantasy popularity explodes
>urgh... fine... here's THE OLD WORLD
>but the End Times HAPPENED
>THEY DID, THEY HAPPENED, NOTHING WILL UNDO THAT, GOT IT YOU CHUDCICLES
I have finally purchased my very own 3D printer.
They're clearly aiming at total war kiddies and secondaries that only know "aos is the bad one" but wanna buy models they'll never paint.
At best, its the 9th edition 200 people wanted and its a neat diversion for t9a/kow players. At worst, its some new models for said players.
> "aos is the bad one"
Unironically true
No.
It's genuine grog bait.
It's made specifically to filter them into a different game system just like HH and KT 2.0
As a grog, it isn't working. Nobody I know who plays 6th locally thinks it will be any good, at best it will lead to a few nice model releases (and plenty of worse ones too I'm sure) but the rules could be the best thing gw ever put out and nobody here would give them a chance. Even if they're the pinnacle of tabletop, gw will nickle and dime them for everything they're worth, splitting everything up into more books than its even possible to keep track of, and doing errata and updates to promote buying the flavour of the month unit through making it more powerful for a few weeks, eventually throwing out whatever balance the game had to begin with.
rules are probably gonna be a mix of 8th edition/End Times (aka worst fantasy edition) with some 'streamlining' AOS nonsense and a bunch of bespoke special rules forced on every other unit to make them kool and unikkue. Also they'll have something along the lines of allegiance abilities or legendary legions or whatever, with a parasitic system of theme force giving out even more bespoke special rules, so that they can spell out exactly what super unique synergy you should be playing.
They're physically incapable of producing a decent system.
yes, and they will 100% have the modern gw focus on a giant centerpiece model or moving diorama
ugh, yeah.
Remember the Demon Legions section in Storm of Chaos, where there were pictures of the various gods' demonic armies each led by a Greater Demon, and how cool they looked towering above the rest despite being like 3'' tall on 50mm square bases? I fricking hate how every edition after 6th just decided to shit on that perfect somber scale.
didnt everyone already have diaromas in their regiments? everyone i played with would have gravestones or something in the middle of units
that's an individual exersize in creativity, not an official kit they'd inevitably give superior rules to (until they errata it after they move all the stock)
yes it was a lot of fun to think of cool dioramas to have in your regiments.
right. they would often have just arms reaching up from the base to represent recently raised dudes.
filler bases make the movement phase so much easier. just put 2-3 ranks on a single base and then leave the command squad and a few others as spares.
Some people did, usually a mix of multi-based figures and individuals for tracking casualty removal, and the gravestones specifically was a way of getting the most bases possible out of undead kits since the units could inflate in battle.
Honestly I'm not worried about unit dioramas or centrepiece models, that's only a problem when the centrepiece models become the entire army ala Knights in 40k. And even WHFB was experimenting with 'filler' bases where an entire rank of the unit was just on one base to make it more practical, as managing tons of individual figures on a movement tray is basically a holdover from the early '80s and could stand some revision.
They're called 'unit fillers' and were pretty much a neccessity by the end due to the model count inflation making armies cost more than second hand cars.
Its indicative of the audience shift that there's so much fuss about the miniatures and very little about what the game will be like.
A big part of why WHFB died in the first place was because the game part went bad with an absolutely fricked set of army books in 7th edition then just 8th being a clusterfrick.
Because the key thing WHFB was for the longest time a game people actually played, for fun at that, and not just the framework for collecting models to show off online. And when the game went bad, sales dropped despite plenty of new figures turning up.
It's probably best to not even think of TOW as a game, GW certainly don't seem to be inclined to advertise it as such, but as a vector for collecting fantasy miniatures in a different style to AOS.
Also this. But add in that I fully expect it's gonna disappoint people in that it won't even release as a full game but more like the AOS versus typed boxed sets with "historical" scenarios.
Grog here. Not interested in putting together and painting another 200+ model army at my age. Just give me more models I can use for Mordheim and reprint the rulebook in color.
i just wanna play high elves
Bretonian proxies
That's a very demeaning way to look at perfectly good historical miniatures.
But yea they're very serviceable for Bretonnia.
They're not historicals, I think they're made to fit in with the fireforge games not-asoiaf minis.
Highland has pretty good stls of Arthurian style knights
>They're not historicals, I think they're made to fit in with the fireforge games not-asoiaf minis.
Sort of, but they are priced in line with their bigger historical line rather than being fantasy-taxed. They do have a not!Bretonnia line and this box features there, but it's also in their 'generic medieval' historical line.
All their knights seem to use the same body, but Albion's knights are different kits than the western knights. The only real difference is that the western knights don't have the silly helmets.
great stuff all around.
They are too small compared to GW bretonnian knights
This will never come out. The last update was literal just repeating stuff we knew.
>you'd already be doing it
WF and Mordheim is experiencing a surge currently, moron. Enjoy your (You), everyone here knows you're a homosexual.
>"fake grog"
The term is "TWW Secondary"
Keep an eye out for the telltale saying, "I would totally have bought Brettonians if they were still making them when I got into Warhammer!"
If the only thing to come from this is a re-release of the Empire Malitia box I'll consider it a success.
I don't care about the game aspect of it at all. I just see it as an opportunity for some neglected model ranges to get some refreshes.
If it prompts GW to finally, FINALLY update the ancient Skaven kits I won't give a single flying frick about the quality of the game even if it's actual literal liquid shit compressed into a hardback book.
As the official owner of james-workshop.com I am telling you that 8th edition is alive, 2024 is when we will see ToW, and OP can frick off. A thread with value, a purpose and maybe even some inspiring images died so that you could shout angrily into the void.
