This Is Such An Amazing Game

yeah, the level design is a complete joke on par with postal 2, the sewer section was hell on earth, the stupid glitches are annoying, but the setting, music, writing, characters, atmosphere are still totally unparalleled. I always wrote this game off as Buffy The vampire Simulator, but it's actually one of the greatest gaming worlds ever realized. I just wish there were Fallout style mods for X Rated frick sequences for all the coomer tier women in the game.

Yeah, the gameplay isn't terribble by any means. VtMB's problem is that the last stretch of the game is really underdeveloped. Still, there are too many things to like in the game for me to complain too much about it.

The powers are really good, but they're too reliant on blood and then the game throws you into levels where it's pretty much impossible to feed? Also it's annoying having to feed so often
If blood drained at 1/20th the speed, all levels had high quality sources of blood, and there was 20x more ammo for your weapons, the combat would be passable

its typical Troika. unfinished, buggy af, half assed unbalanced mechanics. The only really well done thing about this game is the story telling structure. Extremely general broad with a lot of player freedom to a smaller and smaller more condensed less free frame, with all decisions that seemed not connected running together like a thread. Practically just very classic structure, but somehow writers these days have been so brainwashed by dumbed down Hollyisraelite style they cant write a script for shit and are all applying the narratival circle, that sucks

And I think the instance design should be revisited - away from the complete open world to a more pseudo open world. Would also help with optimization and could either be used to run better graphics or make games also look good on low range cards

Tied to the court of spring, summer, autumn or winter maybe your hair has vines and leaves in it or your skin is tough bark like chitin or you look more like a goblin than a man now.
              >You retreat to the shadows, nobody would believe this monster was the real anon after all. Eventually meeting more of your kind who band together for strength and support.

              >Maybe its time for a wild hunt and your are the biggest prize the lords and ladies want to seek their teeth into after hope and fear has flavoured the meat...

Its good. You can play it any period but i found a lot of people enjoy a 1990's setting. Grunge, cable tv, internets barely a thing, library research, small towns not gone full ghostly shopping mall yet and a soundtrack to match.

The idea that something as spooky as the Ocean Side Hotel being policed by one of the ghost legions because Ed and his wife are breaking Dictum Mortuum is the funniest fricking thing.

WoD has a major problem of turning every single supernatural setting into just VtM.

For vampires, a hidden shadow government, hierarchies of vampires based on blood percentage, clans and such. It's all already sort of a thing in the lore starting with Count Dracula being an unironic Transylvanian nobility.

But what works for vampires doesn't work in every setting. The fact that in wraith you die and are sent through a silly ghost Bureaucracy to determine your purpose in an afterlife structured around preventing ghosts from becoming ghost zombie sounds like something written by the guys who did Lost.
Hell it sounds like Bleach but without all the cool powers and shit to make you forget it's ultimately a manga about the afterlife.

Taking the horrifying concept of the evil soul of Ed keeping his wife prisoner just ends up being a ghost doing an illegal thing to extract Pathos from his wife, which just so happens to have no had a visit by the Penitent or Grim Legions. It's like turning a ghost story into a drug den scenario.

Clan Quest mod is worth checking out on subsequent playthroughs, it adds a unique quest for each clan, a new area, a Sabbat option for the main quest, Diablerie so you can eat main characters and some cool new sidequests. it also does some weird shit like replace all the weapons with new ones that are of way lower quality, eg it replaces the Glock with a 1911 which only plays the gunshot sound effect in one ear. obviously all of it is way lower quality than anything in the base game but it's still worth checking out.
There's also a weird WW2 one that's worth checking out for the spectacle but it's super duper jank

The sewers are obnoxious, and I say this as someone that went full combat with guns on my first playthrough. Navigating the final portion is annoying, and some moron thought the section needed 5 mini-boss enemies all within a few feet of each other with no breaks or good way to refresh your blood and health. It also doesn't help that it is a massive spike in difficulty, for most players, there hasn't been anything resembling a proper combat challenge yet aside from maybe Brother Vick. Not as bad as the Kue-Jin temple though.

        Anonymous

        >needed 5 mini-boss enemies
They take maybe 15 seconds to kill if your aim is shit if you went for a gun build and have the most powerful guns you can grab in Hollywood. They're not a mini boss they're just a tankier enemy than the little flesh two legged flesh puppets
        >No way to replenish blood and health
There are rats everywhere , it's only a problem for Ventrue in which case get fricked you're in the sewers of course you're gonna have a bad time as a Ventrue

The main thing that I think annoys people are two things. One , new players unfamiliar with rpg's who dumped their points into trash stats getting actually tested and two is that the sewers have a maze like structure which is annoying to players who haven't played dungeon crawlers before.

            >They take maybe 15 seconds to kill if your aim is shit if you went for a gun build and have the most powerful guns you can grab in Hollywood
They eat up all your ammo and hit like a brick wall while being faster than you. Killing them isn't the problem, the problem is that they eat your resources up like crazy, taking health, blood points, ammo, etc.
            >There are rats everywhere
Which just makes the whole experience even more time-consuming and obnoxious, as you have to scour around for rats to consume 1 blood point each.

It's not that the sewers are hard, it is that they are actively annoying, especially for newer players that haven't navigated the final section before, where exploration is rewarded with another mini-boss enemy.

            >Killing them isn't the problem, the problem is that they eat your resources up like crazy
Resources that aren't hard to come by at that point in the game unless you never stock up on ammo. It's a combat section it's supposed to go through resources, and this is immediately after you assault the mansion so you should be stocked up out the ass expecting hordes of flesh demons to kill.

            >Even more time consuming and obnoxious
It takes 2 seconds to eat a rat and in the sewers they are literally everywhere in massive groups. For Nosferatu players they literally come to you. Again, it's only an issue for Ventrue players.

Vampire Nerds out there I got a question: In theory you could curse a vampire with magic to suffer from utter disgust and sickness to blood?

Melee characters should be spending all their extra cash on blood bags, because they don't have to worry about ammo. They also tend to have innately high brawl, so they should be feeding often to keep their health topped off.

Thats true but you can't feed on shit in the sewers. Luckily I was a Nosferatu so the rats sustained me.

I agree that the women are all really hot and it has good worldbuilding but I think that the games sort of overrated and merely “ok.” If Troika didn’t spend all their time tweaking the first area in the game, forcing them to rush the rest, then this would’ve been a masterpiece.

Also, the ending was kind of lame.

      4 am here, sorry fren

I've played through this game probably times now. The first run was years ago and I remember being genuinely excited about exploring as I was aware of the cherry popping

      >one CQM run with the Anarchs where you false-flag the Sabb for raiding Straus
      >one CQM run with the nossies to blackmail VV for some FUB action
      >one run in Final Nights with the pre-internet skillbook system
      >one run with that unfinished Hunter mod, finishing the oil rig boss fight with 5 bullets
and another run coming up soon (TM) likely with CQM

I never got the companion mod to run on modern systems tho

Yet, it was one of the very first games I downloaded on my new rig (~5 months ago)
I REALLY need to play again, but I'm not so sure of doing yet another Tremere run.
Also, it's so easy to drink too much while playing: get a decent red wine, and only take a sip when you're draining someone in game. After a bit you'll be genuinely stalking people in alleyways because you want a drink.

        Say hello to Deb.

This. The apartment is so crisp.

The problem is that everything from the sewers onwards is complete dogshit. Hallowbrook Hotel, the chink temple, Lacroix's tower. None of them are fun and they're all dog shit to navigate. I always end up toggling on god mode and no clip for what amounts to an entire third or more of the game. I dunno why the sewers get memed as being terrible when everything that comes afterwards is so much worse.

      >Hallowbrook Hotel
Legitimately one of the absolute worst areas I've ever seen in a video game ever. Genuinely befuddles me why they even left it in the game.

Zombie spawn points are only active if you're close enough to them. If you run to the mausoleum where you get the tape as soon as the defence starts then no zombies will spawn so you can just afk the 5 minutes.
