      >kinda interesting how this story is still talked about to this day
Good marketing. All that shit about the "choices" in the story was in the press packs. Even TB, may the devil forever play bad ports with him, parroted that shit.

probably because there's a lot more to games than just story. When has anyone ever talked about SC:TL's gameplay or multiplayer mode? Never; the gay story that antagonizes the player is all it has going for it.

      >yet no one talks about any cod story
Because the poignant twists CoD does pull off once in a decade are too subtle for your average vidya consumer. How many people completely misunderstood No Russian? SpecOps had journalists beating people over the head with the "twist" for months.

On that note, how funny is it that No Russian managed to pull off what Spec Ops attempted and not only did it better but also didn't stretch the point across the entire game?

I was going to insult this thread for existing, because I'm tired of seeing it multiple times a week every week but then I saw this post

And realized that maybe we should be talking about the story still. If someone could misunderstand so entirely, that he would make a post like this in confidence saying that "No Russian and Spec Ops are saying the same thing" then yeah make 3 threads a day every day until the mouth breathers understand
        You're an idiot

Because it did something very hard to do well (third-person shooter), and did it very well, regardless of the wtf end message of the story.
It was really compelling as a war game in a desert shithole. Seeing your ordered golem marines turn into mindbroken murderers was peak modern warfare gameplay.

        >Because it did something very hard to do well (third-person shooter)
Really? Because my memories include laughing my ass off at the braindead AI of your squadmates and enemies.

          Anonymous

I'm sure there was some funky stuff, but it was still fun. Guns felt satisfying and overall the squad AI was decent enough.

There's no way I could treat the game's pompous story seriously after I had to watch one of my squadmates and an enemy take cover behind the same flowerbed ON THE SAME SIDE and still fail to kill each other for half a minute.

Ok, but was there any other way to progress without doing so? And is that option presented to the player at all?

If not, nah. It's the deveoper's fault for not giving me another option besides to just kill everything.

Yes anon. If the writer wrote something to "debunk" something, but it's not expressed in the game, then that writers writing is not in the game.
It's like if the writer for deus ex came out and said that the game is actually an allegory for the politics of Eskimo tribes, and when you point out that that is moronic I go
              >thinking you know better than the author what the story is about

In fact if you have to post mortem "debunk" something you're an objective failure of a writer

Sorry, but the author's own words are infinitely more trustworthy than some random Anonymous poster's interpretative fanfiction.

You can try and defend your enjoyment of this piece of shit game by inventing an interpretation that paints it in a positive light, but that's just in your head. The actual story's still out there and it's about what it is about.

Writers go back on their own creations all the time and retcon things, anon. It doesn't mean they were true or even existed as ideas at the time the original piece of media was written

                >Writers go back on their own creations all the time and retcon things

Even when it obliterates the entire point and original reasoning behind the original creation? Writers aren't infallible and are more than capable of retroactively fricking up and ruining their own work for a multitude of reasons, and in many instances the work itself goes beyond whatever petty reasons its creator might have for retconning it later

But then it'a still not my fault if the writers gave him that one outcome. He was going to end up there since that's how it had to be, according to the writers. That's not my fault. I just pushed the buttons that got me there.

I don't care if some call this a generic shooter or whatever, all a game needs for me is a good soundtrack and its my game of the year all years. I replay it all the time and its pretty short too. Only problem is the game is un winnable on the hardest setting cause the nig always wants to put his gun as close to a guys face as possible to kill someone, then gets swarmed erry time.

Still love the game. Kick ass soundtrack. Game of the year all years 10/10.

You also see Walker's reflection on the artillery screen whenever he orders them to fire which is a nice touch
