There have been so many threads arguing that when did Pokemon start dying. Some say Gen 6 is when it began, while others say it was Gen 5 but it became noticable only in Gen 6. Others say it started in Gen 8. While others go as far back as Gen 4 or 3.
But they are all wrong. Pokemon didn't die then. It was when this came that when Pokemon finally took downturn.

I agree.
Mobile shit shouldn't have been allowed.
>Go has more Pokemon available in it now than any of the main series games shit out in the last 4 years
Pokemon had already unfortunately returned to the mainstream with XY with its Kanto dickriding and made gen 6 the beginning of the end. Gen 7 was the terminal lucidity before gen 8 finally killed Pokemon's soul for good.
>available in it
is a meme. the devs decide a spawn list for events and non-event periods and you are unable to catch anything outside of that list since it will not pop up anywhere. the lists are usually 5-10 pokemon long, sometimes as much as 15-20.
>trading doesn't exist
Go is a shitshow and we know, it is a kusoge mobile game with no gameplay whatsoever (at least it has PvP unlike PLA?).
But by all means it has more Pokemon available.
if you haven't caught the pokemon you are getting in a trade you have to pay an exorbitant amount of ingame currency to trade it, something newer players will not be able to do for months, and that's just for one instance of one pokemon. a shiny or """"costume"""" version of the same mon will have restrictions like that too.
>mobile game has built-in fomo
Water is wet
You don't understand.
When you start a pokemon game, you couldn't catch every single pokemon programmed in this game right away - some are only in postgame, some are other version exclusive, some you can only get one and should get the rest by trading (other starters, other fossils) some are event-only and some even hidden behind transferring from older games. But eventually, you can get all of the programmed-in pokemon.
When you start Pokemon GO, of course you can't catch every programmed-in pokemon right from the start. But eventually you will get them all. I started Pokemon GO on July 1st 2019. And have registered in Pokedex every available at a time Pokemon on the August 4th 2020 - a year and a bit later. I had to do some amount of trading for regional exclusives, and my good friend Peter helped me a TON when he agreed to trade me one of his two wash Rotom he got on GO Fest (I myself do not buy any paid event tickets and only spent $20 on this game to extend pokemon storage). Now I have 752 out of 756 Pokemon available in Pokemon GO (Shaymin, Buzzwole, Pheromosa and Xurkitree from the latest GO Fests are missing), and I'm pretty sure 756 is the third biggest Pokedex any mainline Pokemon game had (UsUm is 807, SM is 802). But Pokemon GO is still growing and its Pokedex is expanding. Next week it will be 759 because Grubbin, Charjabug and Vikavolt will be added! And we have megas!
XY was a brief and very minor downturn. ORAS was a return to form and USUM is just great.
SwSh sucks but even the worst pokemon game is still better than a lot of the shit the industry is squeezing out these days.
SV looks great.
USUM was only good if you didn't play SM. I enjoyed SM the first time through but couldn't imagine going back with all the railroading and handholding and forced cutscenes I had to relive when I played USUM when it released.
Them rushing out SM is the reason why Kalos fell flat (no 3rd game or 2nd pair).
A rushed out SM ruined not only gen 6, but also gen 7.
Gen 6 is bland, gen 7 is shit and gen 8 is garbage.
And no one even plays it anymore.
but still makes money
Candy Crush made 1.21 billion in 2021. So if Pokemon Go is slightly higher than that yeah over a billion in a year.
To make that much money selling mainline Pokemon games they would need to sell over 16 million copies every year.
mainline games are flop pokemon saved this shit franchise cope
This. GO was the first innovative game they have done in years. No one cares about mainline Pokemon games anymore. Hell, even the anime doesn't bother shilling them anymore.
I don't watch the anime but even just coming to /vp/ and going past the threads I can see they are giving Leon a huge blowjob
They still use some gen 8 characters, but the anime isn't based on gen 8 solely like they did from gen 3 and on. The main hub is Kanto and most of the focus episodes are on old shillmons. Hell, Ash only has two gen 8 Pokemon, and one of them is just a Kanto variant.
its making a lot of cash
someone is playing
You’d be surprised anon
This game revived the franchise and resulted in record profits every year since, which made GF try less and less. So yeah this is accurate
SV looks fun though
I hated it on release too, but none of the current issues with the series originates in Go.
Its also better than any switch game that isn't PLA(or SV, but that isnt out).
> revived the franchise
from what?
Seeing over a dozen of my highschool classmates who spent years shitting on pokemon for being a baby game and creaming over Call of Duty, suddenly playing Pokemon Go and squealing like little children, in public spaces as fully grown adults, as they captured shitmons was an unreal feeling. Now they've been so thoroughly brainwashed that they watch the shitty anime and preorder tripe like SV.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, Go changed the franchise.
It's one of the problems.
Different aspects have different entries guilty for it.
BW is guilty for removing features from the previous games and proceed to replace it with trash/nothing and then ORAS is guilty for removing features that absolutely should have been in.
Home is guilty for ruining the collection aspect of the games, introducing dexcut as being fine and even going as far as removing GTS from the games and putting it on a shitty mobile app???? WTF?? Bank is also guilty for making transferring paid and removing the transferring ways from the games themselves.
Go is guilty for the overall financial stability of Pokemon giving Game Freak less reason to put work in the games, so the "You'll buy it anyway."
SwSh is the culmination of all of it, aka where it became clear that they straight-up don't give a single shit anymore, whether it is about game design or about its audience.
>removing GTS from the games and putting it on a shitty mobile app
I used to defend this because I really thought it was a good idea on paper.
But the app is just so shitty.
I've only starting to use it this week and oh my god the app is not that bad but WHAT THE FRICK why is this not on the console where I, you know PLAY THE FRICKING GAMES
It's all so fricking stupid.
home has a switch version
It doesn't have GTS
And you never used it, if that's what you're answering to me.
Let me quickly explain
>Want to transfer from PLA to Home
>transfer is on Switch
>ogey.jpg
>Want to use GTS
>GTS only on mobile
>not_ogey.jpg
Now every time I want to do GTS, I need to
1. close the app on the phone because the researched mon is not in the Home box itself
2. boot up the app on the Switch
3. transfer from PLA to Home
4. close the app on the Switch, boot up the app on the phone
5. check GTS, trade the mon
6. close the app on the phone, boot up the app on Switch
7. transfer from Home to PLA
8. close Home, boot up PLA
9. I can finally use the mon
If the GTS was in the game itself like it always should've been, I'd need to
1. check GTS, trade the mon
2. I can finally use the mon
Home is complete trash and dexcut was a critical mistake.
Oh and I forgot the "close PLA, boot up the app on the phone" at the very start.
It's really this fricking shit.
>can filter and apply favourites on mobile app
>this doesn't even exist in the Switch version
>can change markings in the Switch version
>cant change markings in the mobile version
>can sort boxes in the Switch version (slowly)
>can't even do this on mobile where it would be faster
This disparity is infuriating
Yeah, just why is it not a single fricking thing.
You can also only check Pokedex by games on mobile.
But another thing...
Can we talk about just HOW MUCH the Wonder Trade replacement is fricking trash?
Then 10 at a time thing? I never had issues with it personally.
The 3 at a time thing yeah.
You put them... And then you wait. Some arbitrary time.
When the whole point of the Wonder Trade feature is that at any time you can roll and see if you're lucky.
Is Wonder Trade in SwSh itself? I know it'll be in SV at least
I think it is, i know it's in the GTS in BDSP.
I still use the HOME version more. It might not be instant but I can set it while I'm doing shit in real life then check in an hour or so to see how much shit Im gonna release.
I use hacked shinies to fill out my living dex. Surely oneday it will become a shiny living dex.
It is in SwSh. They changed the name to Surprise Trade but it works the same as before, except it searches for a match in the background so you can play the game while you wait.
I don't mind the Wonder Box in Home because it's a great way to mass-trade a whole bunch of unwanted pokemon.
It's full of breedjects, which greatly speeds up breeding because you can start with a 4-5IV pokemon that just has a shitty nature.
I'll agree there, it's shit
Sometimes- What am i saying, most of the time, it takes longer than the GTS.
Wonder Trade has always been trash. The only time you'll get something worth a damn is when it's hacked.
I got a shiny Lugia in a heartball...it even has mediocre IVs. This is the only shiny from a non Go/PLA game I've gotten from Wonder Trade, I assumed might be legit.
I spent months resetting to get one in crystal to get one but this is ok...iguess.
>paid online, paid GTS, paid bank
GTS and wondertrade should not be pay-locked, only "bank"
>Go is guilty for the overall financial stability of Pokemon
Kek.
You summed it up nicely. SV looks to be doubling down on what SWSH brought, so it's only going to get worse.
This. Even if the new features were nice, it wasn't really worth having to drag through the main story again.
That sounds like it's Festival Plaza levels of convoluted.
Still makes more money annually than any of the mainline games ever have.
For every "this game was the closest to world peace" there's an "Ishihara told Nintendo that Switch would fail in the age of the smartphone".
Pokemania was a mistake.
Gomania was also a mistake.
The correct answer is gen 4.
>absurd story with stakes so high that it's silly that Team Galactic gives up so easy
>literal God and beings that control represent things like Space/Time/Anti-Matter/Nightmares/The Moon
>Others are responsible for sentient life existing and moving the continents.
>are all Pokemon that can be captured by a metal man made ball and controlled by a 12 year old
>made it clear to that the classic format has ran it's course and it was time for a major change to the series
There is are a reason why things like Go/PLA and even to an extent Sw/Sh sold well. It's because they "feel" like the series is finally moving on from Gen 1 in terms of how you actually play the game.
I agree
And that is a gen 6 spinoff
Go saved the franchise, we would still have nothing but random encounters if this game didn't inspire Game Freak to put wild Pokemon in the overworld.
Random encounters good.
It wasn't Pokemon Go, but mobile gaming as a whole tat damaged Pokemon. Ishihara once told Nintendo that the Switch would be a failure because he though mobile games were taking over the market. And then what happens? His own company goes on to release one of the most profitable mobile games in history. It was more successful in a year than any single Game Freak RPG. They did this using only the classic Pokemon, and without even needing basic features like trade or battles. The concept of catching Pokemon "in real life" simply caught like wildfire. For some people this was even their introduction or re-introduction to the brand. Because everyone has a phone, but they may not have a $100+ Nintendo system. Its no wonder SwSh was such a lackluster game when they didn't even have faith in the fricking industry anymore.
Series is only now starting to course correct because they realized that people actually like video games after all.
It's not mobile gaming that killed Pokemon
Its TPC/GF being absolute fricking morons about the existence of mobile gaming
Pretty much.
That wouldn't have happened if mobile gaming didn't get as relevant
GO did, indeed, kill Pokemon, the franchise. But it revived it as Pokemon, the religion.
Only heathens come by here to cry about the past and not find their place in the future. GO is the salvation. GO players, despite frustrations, love all of Pokemon. You don't even need to play GO to make peace with what it has bought.
Do you know who is going to buy the most copies of SV? GOgays. Many have already pre-ordered.
GOgays outside of Japan spend as much as, if not more than, the Japanese base (who also play a lot of GO).
Even with how silly Niantic can be, do you know which players are listened to the most? GOgays. They tithe well, they are heard the most.
Your tithes are nothing but semen caked upon a Cynthia figure. Purify, and at least roll for Cynthia units in Masters for full redemption.
Do you know where Megas is still relevant? GO
Do you know where you can have buddy Pokemon, even shoulder Pokemon? GO
The only thing our church is lacking are ridable Pokemon, but I won't be surprised to see that added as a fringe feature.
Breeding is also missing, but that might be by design since the main point is to hunt or raid, not sit around and breed.
While you guys were screaming about Masuda, he took refuge in his game--GO, and went full Constantine behind your backs. While you cried for more coom, a full dex, and Megas, Masuda listened to our prayers and, through Hanke the Wayward Prophet.
Please, be thankful that it is the GOgays's money who still bless you with new games for your console.
My only wish is that GO would move a bit faster until they were 1:1 with the console games. Then, new Pokemon could release in small batches via GO, and we could phase you ungrateful console peasants out. Maybe you'll get a neat spinoff or two, but you should start learning your place.
>GO did, indeed, kill Pokemon, the franchise. But it revived it as Pokemon, the religion
Well put
Thanks. It's got a lot of typos because I'm tired (as GOChads often are, getting their steps in unless they're spoofbros), but I knew you friends would see where I'm getting at
Only those from GF who followed Masuda or Sugimori will be spared and allowed to prosper under the loving umbrella of GO's embrace.
Praise and bless. I don't hate the mainline games, but each new game abandons the improvements of the past. GO tries to embrace all.
Underrated post.
I tried to get my old TCG buddies into GO back in 2019 before they started dumping tons of great single player content (and focusing on pvp battles). It was pretty clear with Sword/Shield's lack of effort and the amount of money that GO consistently shits out that GO was going to become the focal point of the franchise sooner or later.
The only reason I hate that this is true is just how vocally niantic has been trying to detach their name from GO in the past few years.
They're throwing virtually every IP under the sun at the wall to see if it will stick in a VR space to the same degree as Pokemon. They have no business handling an IP of the caliber of Pokemon, and they're sick of being enslaved by the burden of TPCi's eternal upkeep contract, no doubt. Reminds me of how it feels watching modern gay freak...
I hope that Niantic gets removed from GO and we can get some fresh blood to take the reins, assuming it doesn't affect the player at all.
>I hope that Niantic gets removed from GO and we can get some fresh blood to take the reins, assuming it doesn't affect the player at all.
I can almost expect Niantic and TPCi to establish something akin to "The GO Group" that puts Niantic in charge of the most basic technical side of things (which would still allow them to experiment with AR), and the new group focusing more on developing the entertaining aspects of the game. There are so many aspects that have so much potential, but need more focus and care. That would have been a smarter thing to work on sooner, instead of spreading themselves thin with so many new AR games.
The dozen """new""" AR games were a desperate bid to reach out from under TPCi's nutsack and they just can't do it. They're a shit company that only existed to farm location data via Ingress in the first place and stumbled into massive success when Go landed in their laps.
The game has gotten progressively better but it's taken years to get to a playable state, and had Go launched with any other branding in its place it would have never, NEVER caught on like it did, and Niantic would've gone defunct or had to lean way more into Ingress players to get the Go product to where it is now, if they had even stuck with it.
The worst part is that the game itself isn't even enjoyable to the playerbase that pays. The majority that pay and continue to play daily do it for shiny hunting, which is the saddest way for Pokemon to die in my imo.
To add:
Go is longer just a spinoff. It has surpassed the mainline. As the years pass, it will be called a 'core' or 'the game that ties it all together.' If you think I'm shitting, they've been doing this since they've put quests into the game. Willow establishes himself as knowing several professors from the core games, as well as being Prof. Oak's former assistant.
Many will scream how this is not canon because it doesn't align with their willful ignorance to maintain their childhood connections to the franchise, but that's besides the point: they have been working to steer this higher profit game into being accepted as THE Pokémon game.
>It makes money within the console
>It makes money from merch
>It makes money from selling location data
>Masuda no longer puts bugs in Joe's anus. It's Hanke's, now.
the anime also changed format to pander to GO even having a walking advertisement character for the game. And now SV art style channeling GO energy. It will inevitably take over and game freak will be out on the streets
its better than main games
Pokemon improved after go
Anybody that isn't a moronic Zoomer knows that Gen 3 killed Pokemon.
*gen 5, as gen 3 and gen 4 still had souls thanks to its 3rd versions and plethora of great spin-off games for the GC/Wii/NDS.
Wrong, Pokemania was dead before Gen 3 came out and had already been dying even before Gen 2 The things that killed Pokemonia were the same things the kill the majority of fads:. Pokemon no longer had the novelty of being the shiny new toy, the original people who grew up with Pokemania were grown out of it when Gen 3 game out of it, and new games/media were raising up and taking attention away from Pokemon.
Shut up zoomer, you werent there so shut the frick up
It ressurected it. stfu
Just say what you really mean. Here, I'll help. What you MEAN to say is, "This is when TPC and GF stopped doing what I want, and I started hating Pokemon." No "killing" occurred.
>But they are all wrong
