>it's not scary
that one ladder section got everyone, you all know the one
>jumscares means scary
Sure thing bro. But im not going to lie, ladder sequence was the only time that made me twitch.
It made me laugh really hard, but just so I don't come off as "le fearless badass unafraid of anything" I'll mention the fire chase in the first expansion nearly put me in the hospital because of my heart condition.
extraction point is scarier and more betterer than the original game tbh
Yeah if you want more horror play Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate.
FEAR isn't really scary, it's unsettling at times (The mecha suits are more butt-clenching than Alma imo). People don't play FEAR for the horror though, they play it for the John Woo "gun-fu" particle effect bullet time features and dynamic lighting. Play Condemned: Criminal Origins if you want more horror
>Genevieve! Armacham! Where is the fucking reinforcements!? Look at them, for fucks sake!
Every combat location is sheer perfection of level design
really hard to be scared in a game with what is essentially infinite shotgun ammo
good thing no one plays it for the story.
It's quite well written, actually.
nah. Fear is easy top ten GOAT for me, but the story is generic af
>fear
>boring
Get past chapter 2 gay.
It's got fun gameplay mechanics and the enemies still have some of the best AI for any FPS game. I don't really see how anyone would find it scary though, it signals that it's going to jumpscare you with the radio static.
FEAR is ostensibly a fantastic shooter on the basis of the AI scripting squad tactics, level design, and Pointman ability. Yet I still bounce off of it. Somehow the shootan just doesn't hold my interest and the story doesn't meaningfully progress - for my second go at it, I set it's display name to Where In The World Is Paxton Fettel.
I would agree that the game is quite overrated. There is some good stuff, like AI and physics, but the game itself is is very generic and boring, you basically slowmo most of the fights and proceed into copy/pasted offices ad nauseam.
>having to use the slowmo to win
noone is forcing you to slowmo
Zoomer opinion detected. Opinion discarded.
The guns are fun and the AI was really good for its time, and iirc the graphics were used as a benchmark for awhile
Don't you dare shit on the Doom 3 engine
What went wrong?
the pc version of fear 2 was scrapped, what we got was the console one
These
couldn't lean around corners.
They saw the success of Halo.
Consoles
FLASHLIGHT
FEAR needed a arcade side mode to really tie it together. But nooooo everyone wants these dumb campaign experiences that drag on for too long.
FEAR 2 and 3 should have been about the FEAR unit fighting literally anything else. Make them fight other horror concepts.
Send them to Florida to fight lovecraftian nonsense(i.e. Florida man).
Go to Area51 for some alien cliches.
Anything but Alma and Armacam
I had fun and I thought it was scary. I like video games.
You are just shit at the game, champ.
100%.
I played Fear last month for the first time, I ignored it because by the time the game released I felt like the whole story being around the little girl from the movie The Ring was retarded.
Gameplay is great, AI is excellent, the game has a lot of care to detail because of the tech, its amazing in that way.
But the story is trash and retarded, the map design is boring, dull and labyrinthic as fuck. When you play you don't feel any kind of progress until the game is already ending.
The ending with the ghost at least is cool.
7/10, I will not play the other games because I don't care enough about the story. And because mayority says that the first one is the best, so I don't want to play a worst version of the same game.
>FEAR
>labyrinthic
Low IQ confirmed, bet Half Life Xen gives you a hard time too.
Nop, easy as fuck. I don't mean that is easily to get lost, but in the way that every map looks like a mixed copy of the last one. The maps are boring and senseless.
It's an action game you idiot. The horror is just thematic and there to enhance the mood.
Bro was really shooting the Replicas thinking he was supposed to be scared lmao.
it's a tech demo, which is what PCLards cream themselves over
just look at Crysis and how long they shilled that pile of shit
