    You can wear any clothing.
I like to make a male character that dresses as feminine as possible and uses the Seppuku ash of war.

    No, just play the game.
There is no gender specific gear.

With the exclusion of two zones, you're free to explore everywhere and anywhere. Go make your own adventure. That is why Elden Ring is so popular, absolute freedom of choice and player agency above all.

The best advice anyone could give you is this:
If you can't beat a boss/area, do not throw yourself at it over and over again unless you want to hate the game. Go somewhere else and level up a bit before continuing.

level up vigor and upgrade your weapon.

These are easily the best advice. A lot of people beat their heads against the early game boss because they are used to normal Souls progression, where there's nothing to really do but try and git gud until you beat it. Elden Ring uses different difficulty walls to encourage you to explore. The game gives you a specific instruction on where to go, and it's hard mentally to break away from that early on because you don't have much direction, but that's part of the point.

Vigor is also incredibly important, especially mid-late game. The game expects you to have 60 Vigor by late game, and even with that late game enemies can sometimes two-shot you. Prior Souls games may have conditioned you to ignore health or keep it lower to instead focus on damage. That doesn't work well in ER.

The main early game tips I'd say are:
      >Use Guard Counter frequently, it's quite powerful, especially early on when enemies combo less and you can often stance break them with one
      >Stance breaking moves (charging Strong Attack and Jumping Strong Attacks) are INCREDIBLY important for bosses, again especially early on
      >Don't be ashamed to look up guides for questlines -- they're incredibly easy to break or miss outright and most are insanely obscure to finish
      >That said, try to play blind as much as you reasonably can

60 vigor is excessive. 40 is kinda low, but 47 feels like plenty. I have felt no reason to go past 47, though I've tossed talismans on my character.
I think super high vigor mattered more a few patches ago before poise and endurance got buffed.

where else are you gonna put your points late game? Especially now that you need less points in endurance and can much more easily reach the 51 poise breakpoint. for me it's usually 80 into primary dmg stat, 55-60 vigor, 25 endurance and rest mind or more endurance.

not him but my ngloop dude looks like this, but it's mainly just so I can meet stat reqs to try and use literally anything, and the carryweight so I can wear cool armor and don't need to hardswap

If you explore past the starting area you might end quests before they begin. I couldn’t do Rogier or the start of Nepheli’s questline because I skipped past Godrick’s castle to do other stuff.

you can still do Nepheli's quest even if you never talk to her in Stormveil castle. A lot of quests have optional first stages that aren't actually required to finish them. Alexander, Nephelli, Ranni, Millicent, you can't really mess them up by exploring early on. Killing Morgott is the only break point for some quests.

Int/str and int/dex are both pretty catered to in this game. Magic can break bosses, so you should focus on melee while using magic as a supplement. Prisoner might be better for your first time.

I want to say you aren't really locked into a class. You can allocate points differently if you don't like how you started, and once you beat the "second" major boss you can use an item to completely reclass.

    >you must have 60 vigor
don't listen to this gay pvp meme
i beat the game with 40 + soreseal and wasn't oneshot by anything except grabs
25 is enough for the first half of the game

For the first half, absolutely. But this man deserves a shot at beating Melania alone.

What’s the benefits about lying on what could kill you? You’re mathematically wrong. Pointless post. End it.

          >literally nothing oneshotted me
          >except her attacks designed to oneshot me
I'm not saying you CAN'T beat Melania with sub60 vig. But for the average player, especially someone new to souls, it helps even the playing field immensely.

It's not a PvP meme, most weapons don't have enough scaling at low upgrade levels to justify early stat investment. It's much better value to level vigor throughout the early to mid game.

    Stat priority should be
    Weapon/spell requirements > VIG > damage stats

I still can't decide if I'd like this or not. I played Demon's Souls on PS3 before Dark Souls even came out. I played it once and was just kinda done with it, and never played another From game. But I'm interested in another open world RPG which actually doesn't seem to be as saturated of a genre as you think it would be. I know someone else who played Souls games and was in the same boat, played one of them and just disregarded the rest. But he played Elden Ring and loved it.
Maybe I should give it a shot? How is the PC port? I know they usually suck at it, but wasn't this released the same day on PC instead of being some butchered port?

Don't feel compelled to explore everything, 95% of the hallways have worthless items in them.

this means nothing. how would he know which hallways to ignore and which ones to explore? you still have to explore everything to find that 5% that interests you.

Dex/int. It is flashier and has more weapons. Str/int has some good stuff too. You can always respec, so try to save at least two full sets of upgrade materials to experiment.

One thing to know is there are several copy pasted bosses. So unless you feel compelled to 100%, and you want to maximize your enjoyment, open up a guide or something and skip/seek the bosses you want actually want to fight.

Don't bother exploring absolutely everything, game is very big and it's not really intended to be 100% the first run. Idk, I just know that some people are oddly prone to burn out from this

Don't autistically "scan" every single inch of texture in the overworld like I did in search of le ebin secrets and 100% completion, you will ruin your experience.

Get a good backup melee weapon asap, you can't go full caster until very late game. Also level vigor, you'll thank me later
