It's never been accurate. When gen 5 was first released, it was the most controversial by far.

Just like TCGs people like collecting and “owning” their Pokemon (decks) that they use for playing competitively, even if you can play it just fine in a simulator with pictures for free. Showdown is never going to replace that especially when it has basically no animations as well

It is. The XYgotes have arrived in force recently, I've noticed a definite change in attitude towards gen 6 overall. As someone who has been here on and off since mid-late gen 4 it makes me feel old.

It is but not why you think it is. People aren't changing their opinions over time, but people do come and go as posters. People who are fired up to hate the current gen come to post, they go away over time, until its time for remakes when they resurface. To each their own. Gen 7 had a lot going for it. Personally wish we would've just gotten Stars rather than USUM. And still wish the game was less interrupting. Gen 8 suffered a bit from that too, now that I think about it. Gen 9 felt much more free.

Not really. Just use Shadow Ball. Ghost and Dark are practically identical in terms of offense. You can still hit Psychic and Ghost super effectively with Absol's good attack stat

It's less hand hold and more just very text heavy for no reason with it's cutscenes, cause the game is definitely a lot harder

What do people mean when they say 3 had a half baked split. I thought 2 started the split
It became a problem in gen 3 when it wasn't before by making lots of pokemon when desperately needed the split, like Sceptile. Because of that, people remember it that way. Sort of like how lots of people think of some gen 2 pokemon as gen 3 mons because the gen 2 distribution was dogshit and people didn't form memories of those mons until gen 3.

The "some types are physical some are special" was always t here, but Gen 3 introduced a lot more elemental attacks into the game than were around before, and increased the distribution of a lot of them too.
Gen 1 and 2 had far more limited level up movepools, so it was less confusing most of the time.
Gen 6 is only liked for Mega's, not the actual games

did gen 5 really deserve the hate? it was the last time game freak had passion for the mainline game.
Most people see 3-5 as the franchise stride of being heavily brand-focused but still interested in quality. I'm of the opinion that 6 still has some of the old energy and really was held back by that jump to 3D. To this day I think it's impressive that all the old Pokemon got 3D models and dex cut didn't happen again at that generation. 7 onwards it was clear the franchise was losing its way.
I think there are still people working at GameFreak who are interested in experimenting and want the franchise to be good. Even Scarlet and Violet represent a new shift even if the execution is horrendous.
