This was supposed to revive the franchise.
What happened?

It did pretty well. I think you're confusing it with the mobile game that killed the franchise.
It was terrible? Modern sega couldn't make a game to save their life.
It did very poorly, pre-orders were okay but it dropped off like a rock after word of mouth started spreading.
Why would you even post about sales if you don't know that 200k for a game like this is huge?
Sakura Wars V sold about 400,000 worldwide
>>Why would you even post about sales if you don't know that 200k for a game like this is huge?
Why would you post about sales when you don't know the immense amount of advertising Sega put into the project in Japan? Wall to wall ads aren't cheap, buddy.
They were expecting much better sales.
PS4 exclusivity in 2019. If it was 2015, that would make perfect sense, but it came out in 2019 when the Switch was selling gangbusters. Incredibly boneheaded move.
didn't play it yet, but I like Kubo Titty's designs
New Sakura wars just isn't that good unfortunately. I did enjoy this game however.
Should I play this? I loved Sakura Wars V on the PS2
It's different from that but I think it's worth the sale price.
Bleach's artstyle is not for the best. The original artwork was beautiful.
Amerilard "those stupid japs and their slant eyes" SIE were in charge and that effectively killed the title's chances as Abby and other westoid designs were positioned to be the big stronk beautiful mascots of the Snoy brand to draw in those thirsty glasses wearers.
The gameplay switching to "muh action" didn't help matters.
Let's be real here. Nobody cares about the gameplay in dating sim games. FE success comes from its autistic fanbase, not because of the game quality.
turn based "gameplay" in dating sims or the weird softcore shit we get these days complement the format way better though, the type of people who play these games generally prefer something relaxing to a shitty button masher.
>shitty button masher
Fuck you musous are fun
They can be good sometimes but Sakura Wars' musou gameplay isn't
Call me a retard, but strategy game is the last genre comes to mind if i ever want to play something 'relaxing'
It's turn-based strategy, how can that be anything other than relaxing when you can take all the time in the world to make a play with no consequence for it?
It was a PS4 exclusive RPG
DoA
PS4 only. Fuck them.
Different genre
Made by Sonic Team
>take a dating sim with light SRPG elements
>make it into a fucking musou
>in an era where FE is super successful
Not only did they kill any potential of newfags being interested in the series, but they also turned away veterans because of the shitty artstyle and bad ending every previous protagonist and heroine. Between that and being a fucking PS4 exclusive the reboot was for fucking no one, I'm glad that Yakuza gay got kicked from the company over it.
If they released it on Steam I would have bought it. Guess they don't want my money.
The franchise always was a flavor of the month (in a metaphorical sense) that had no place on the videogame landscape once its 15 minutes of fame ended.
Ganker reveres it so highly because they never played the games due to being Japanese-only and there is a belief that non-localized game = ultimate masterpiece.
The most telling thing about how Ganker never played a Sakura Wars game before is how they think the strategy part was the meat of the experience and that it was X-Com tier.
no one in this thread said that Sakura Wars' had peak SRPG gameplay, just that shitty SRPG filler beats shitty musou filler
Again, you clearly never played the pre-2019 games if you believe that the SRPG par was somehow less shitty than just musou button mashing.
My honest guess is that Sony cultivated an entirely new audience for the PS4, which resulted in the new playerbase feeling isolated from whatever this anime shit was.
Isn't it the Digimon Survive issue where it's 10% combat, 90% visual novel?
