true but it solved the buttons jamming and even then there's no better controller for emulation
since sony refuses to make a modern controller that is any good to play anything but movie shit
they could easily make the best playstation controller simply if eu regulations forced them to include hall effect sticks and replaceable batteries and if they simply went back on their backwards compatibility and decide they should compete with microsoft
DS3 was hardly an improvement. The triggers are the worst of all time, and somehow it feels super tiny even though a DS2 feels perfectly comfortable to me. I think the shape of the back is slightly different or something, my hands don't grip it the same way. DS2 is literally all you need and will ever need.
>DualShock 3 >improved
It was a trade at best. Wireless felt amazing (especially since I didn't have a Wave Bird or anything like that during the sixth gen), but L2 and R2 were atrocious, and I'm someone who's usually lenient on that. I can't look a that controller without immediately seeing a Demon's Souls NPC being smashed in the face. The battery life was amazing, though. I still shake my head at the DS4. What a piece of garbage.
I kinda get why, though I do think the concept deserves a second chance with some refinement. With an analog stick and modern analog triggers, you have a better tactile mechanism since it's hard plastic stopping at hard plastic - there's a definite palpable "stopping" point. With analog buttons (at least with how PS2/PS3/Xbox did them), it's hard plastic pressing down on a spongy malleable silicone membrane - you don't get the same level of definite feedback, giving more room to be too rough with the mechanism and increasing the possibility of weakening input registration (at least with the Dualshock 2).
just use optical switches
like a keyboard
there's no reasoning to as controllers are just so poorly made despite being so expensive
they're literal chunks of plastic using garbage I expect in 20-30$ keyboards
>raphnet's adapter has the best input latency, but still doesn't have rumble or analog button support >some cheapo generic USB adapters on eBay/Amazon do have these features (and remapping the Analog button to be the Home button) but have much worse latency, even with polling rate overclocking >Brook's DS1/2 to USB adapter is a pit of despair that's the worst of both worlds
Well shit, guess I'll stick to DS4 for PC then. I find DS3 borderline intolerable, but if there was a good solution for DS2s I'd probably use those since they're so plentiful and cheap on the used market.
>latency
seriously? I've always used this kind of chink $5 adapters and they've always worked without any trouble
you can even use PS1 and PS2 controllers on a PS3 with these for some weird reason. I played Demon's Souls on a PS1 controller like this.
PS3's USB was pretty lenient for wired controller support; even relatively modern controllers those made by Retro-bit sometimes list PS3 as a supported device.
>you can even use PS1 and PS2 controllers on a PS3 with these for some weird reason
PS3 (and PS4/5) don't limit devs in any way from adding custom USB controller support
This was originally meant for stuff like flightsticks, steering wheels and mouse/keyboard.
But pretty quickly devs figured out that it was really easy to add support for generic DS1/2 USB adapters. This mostly got use in fighting games so that people could play with their PS1-era arcade sticks.
Unfortunately not every game supports these adapters and there's very little documentation online on which ones do. Some adapters also layout the buttons in a weird way that's not very compatible with games.
pressure sensitive buttons, while cool on their own, just plain sucked compared to analog triggers especially since hardly anything, that even had use for analog function, needed more than one analog input
the xbox S controller was the best of the generation
>play PS2 game that's badly adjusted for the pressure sensitive controls >switch to PS1 controller that doesn't have pressure sensitive dpad or buttons >suddenly the game feels responsive
ps1 and ps2 controllers are almost identical and did have games that supported pressure sensitive buttons

Correct
and it still hasn't been improved on other than the dualshock 3
otherwise sony is now going backwards
>other than the Dualshock 3
And even then,
>horrible trigger shape
>only one set of models of DS3 were built well

skill issue
>sticks melt overtime
no it fucking isn't
They melt over time if you're some sort of swamp creature who never washes their hands
they melt if it's hot, simple ray of sunlight can kill your controllers
Never had this happen to any of my PS2 or PS3 controllers.
It's so stupid that the industry gave up on pressure-sensitive buttons.

What's wrong with the Brooks one?
Not great latency (marginally better than cheap generic adapters) AND no support for analog buttons. Rumble didn't work on mine either.

im still using a madcatz tennessee titans ps2 controller and its based. the original probably broke or something idk

the original nickname for it was fatty
so it had to be adjusted to modern standards
Anon, it was called the duke even before the Xbox 360 came out. Could it be the Xbox 360 is older than you?
>this is the best controller
FTFY
It isn't, retard
