I liked it back in the day. Was neat how many levels were interconnected and you could travel between them during a fight.

      >noticeably shittier
      How so

I really enjoyed playing them as a kid. I was glad to have some fighting games on the Nintendo 64, and the games had an enjoyable sense of style.

        >gameplay is slower
        >tons of old characters missing, I think only Bad Mr. Frosty has perfect attendance
        >no save feature so you have to put in unlock codes every single time you want to be Dr. Kiln
        >Ickybod still obviously OP
        >unfinished, IIRC every ending is just a text box

Game has the most blatantly and unapologetically racist video game characters of all time. And nobody mentions it
    >Name Kung Pow
    >Attacks are all named after Chinese Food dishes
    >Tetsumaki is Lo Mein
    >Fried "Lice" combo starter
    >Fights with a Wok
    >That Hair
    >Those Teeth
    >The Accent

I don't know why I wanted this game so bad, I think I got sold by the cover alone, which is weird since I was older around the time this game came out and didn't base myself on covers like I did in the SNES era. I had never played the SNES clay fighters and I did think Earth Worm Jim was a huge selling point. I also wans't huge into fighters.
I think I remember being a bit disappointed teh game didnt' ahve much more to offer, it was rather basic though the narrator and all the voice clips were definitely iconic. I don't remember hating the game but looking back I coudl've used that money on so many other great games I never owned that would've gotten far more mileage.

Was the fraction thing supposed to be cool? Calling it 63 1/3 makes it sound like a lesser game than a full Game 64 game

A bad game (With some good ideas) that apparently went through so much development hell starting as a 3DO game, before a cancelled PS1 version and eventually N64. It was infamous as Nintendo were allegedly sending back builds to Interplay with absolutely scathing feedback (Including telling them to cut an entire character called "Hobocop" because they hated it. Surprisingly they didn't go after Kung Pow) and only ever licensed the game because Interplay threatened to pull support for the N64 if they didn't get their way. Interplay probably should have taken the hint that if the platform holder fricking hates it and is only tolerating it because Nintendo needed third party support, they probably should have canned the game.

It was supposed to be a gag on every game being "64" that they were "63 and a third" because its the third clayfighter game. Like most of the jokes in the game, it didn't land.

Interplay apparently loved the concept and wanted to make him one of the cover characters including prominently displaying him in the few screenshots they released. Nintendo absolutely hated it because his idle stance was him staggering around drunk, drinking from a bottle and he drunkenly slurred out his attacks. Nintendo demanded he was cut and Interplay grudgingly obliged.

Apparently Interplay were making a DSi Ware remake of 64 at one point and the developers did say they were considering finishing and building Hobocop back into the game to replace Kung Pow (As you would never, ever get that passed by the ESRB again) and Nintendo seemed OK with that. But the remake fizzled out. It probably wouldn't have been a good game but it would have been a nice curiosity as the development team said they had all the keyframes for the characters including the ones unfinished in Sculptors Cut, that they were going to have the full intended roster, just likely minus Kung Pow. Holy shit, how the hell Nintendo let Kung Pow through but killed Hobocop because he drank alcohol. Nintendo standards and practices in the 90's were something else
