Ours was a mathematical genius from some eastern european country that probably doesn't exist anymore. He was probably designing rockets before the fall of the USSR. Everyone used to say the principal rescued him and brought him to our school. The principal was my uncle though and I know he never left the country.

I'm an ESL teacher. I commute every other day at 5am to work at an island school. Half-time, shitty pay, my contract is ending in a month. Can't find steady employment for over 8 years now because I'm not involved in politics. Kids are alright though, much better than city kids. They have respect for teachers and want to learn. I'm probably going to switch to tutoring only because the commute is killing me. It's tough, but at the end of the day kids are pure and better people than adults if you listen to them. If I can help one of them grow to be a better person I can die happy.

Oh, Jesus Christ. You just reminded me of my high school business information systems teacher. It was a one-semester moronic computer credit we needed, and all we did was recreate Word and Excel documents from a printout of instructions. I used to blaze through it and play Uno with these older kids, a really popular dude on the pep squad and this hot girl in Cross Country with me. That stupid teacher actually gave me the only detention I ever got because I changed someone's desktop background to have a picture of a folder shortcut that said "click me" on it so they couldn't click on it. I even changed it back in like 2 seconds and she was just lecturing me about how I would go to jail someday if I kept that type of thing up. Stupid fat b***h drove me insane with how she didn't actually know hardly anything about computers.

public schools in small towns and white suburbs are fine though. ours here they literally do prayer every morning with the staff, and since 99% of the kids are white there's never any problems with behavior beyond normal stuff.

That also complicates things. America is so fricking wild. You can have one county where the schools are literally just places for gang members to sell dope and fight and the next county over you have a bunch of white kids with a handful of hispanics doing clubs, science fairs, group projects, asking questions in class, etc.

              Anonymous

Even the wost public schools aren't really that bad for smart kids. American public schools have "Advanced Placement" (AP) or "International Baccalaureate" (IB) classes, and most have "Gifted and Talented" (GT) on top of that. They have pre-AP/IB and GT classes before high school too. It takes only a minimal level of parental involvement and effort from the child to reach that level, and they will spend the entirety of their education relatively segregated from regular kids. The difference in classroom behavior is night and day. The worst that usually happens in AP classrooms is a kid talking back to a teacher or cursing, and that's rare. Most of those kids, especially the girls, go their entire education without incident.

Private schools often don't have this benefit because all students are forced to take the advanced coursework, and they don't have the population to create separate rooms for the worse-performing students. It creates demonstrably worse results in high-performing students, although it does help low-performing students greatly. Behavioral issues are about the same.

Granted, public elementary and early middle school is different. Very little is done to seperate kids by ability, so it's a bit of a mess. Kids with special needs will be in regular rooms and are often highly disruptive.

                Anonymous

They USED to have AP and other "gifted" classes, until they were deemed racist for being "too white". We now literally punish promising white students because Black folk and hispanics can't compete with them. There are literally 0 redeeming qualities for public schools at the moment. You are unironically better off homeschooling your child then sending them to public school, especially if you live in the inner cities.

Sometimes I think people feel trapped by the pay. Black schools get insane federal dollars. My wife used to work at one because with 20 years exp and a masters she could make $60,000 a year. Eventually it just got too exhausting and dangerous (particularly with black parents, actually) so we had her take a pay cut to teach at a white school. $20,000 cut but safety and health matters.

That's true and another thing people don't understand about American schools. If you're willing to teach in the inner cities, you can get fat bonuses. For a certain kind of teacher, it's awesome. If you don't give one single frick and you're just trying to make some extra cash then go for it. You know all the grades will be fake anyway and accountability is racist so yeah. Teachers who teach at those school are basically just DMV employees.

How is a teacher supposed to hold a zoomer's attention for more than 5 minutes, let alone actually teach them something?

        Anonymous

I stopped caring about the kids who didn’t care. I had maybe 5 students per year who worked hard and passed with top grades so I focussed my attention on them, sort of helped the next few and gave zero fricks about the kids who were moronic zoomers.

When I had parent teachers I told the single moms and gay partners they were the issue and the full straight 2 parent normal families I loved teaching their kids and they worked with me to ensure they would succeed.

I’d send most of the frickwit kids to detention daily or have them stand in the hall. Frick wasting my time and the time of kids who actually want to succeed in their short lives because the country says I have to try fix brain dead idiots who think they’re gonna get YouTube famous for eating the most yoghurt in one sitting.

I have had one really intelligent black kid. But of course his nig family and friends try and drag him down because for whatever reason being smart and working hard is seen as a bad thing with them. I’d also say one chunk and one pajeet but I guess they don’t count cause they tend to work hard.
As far as the white kids go, if they have a single mom or gay parents they are morons. The nuclear family students always do much better, especially when they have a strict dad.

I get assaulted daily by students for not giving them perfect scores.
I fail them for cheating as well and once had my stapler thrown at me which resulted in having to get 14 stitches on my face.
These kids think they're in charge but I will not violate my integrity and I will continue to do the right thing.

A kid came after me like that once. No cameras in the section of hall so I choke slammed him into the floor then stomped his head.

When someone found him they assumed it was racist bullies or some shit. He had a concussion and didn’t remember it was me who had fricked him up. Even if he had I’d have denied it because he’s a lying little c**t and no one would believe him anyway.

        >How is a teacher supposed to [..]
Passing F grades when zoomers catastrophically fail on their tests and then not backing down to helicopter parents.
Either the zoom-zooms get the message and will self-actualize and make something of themselves, or they will sink and drown before the system shits them back out into the pool of low-wage never-beens. If they can't manage to right themselves in school, they won't manage to do so later while being part of the working economy either. So better to get rid fo them sooner rather than later.

TL;DR - get rid of participation-medals and the situation will fix itself.

They shouldn't, and let the frickers fail and be held back a grade. This problem stems from the fact that schools plow kids to graduation regardless of performance, all while having some of the worst limp wristed learning settings imaginable.

My 6 year old boy was struggling with reading this year while the teachers kept us completely in the dark of the issue by saying his progress was "normal". Despite having his ass for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, you'd think that'd be enough time to help him learn. So I took it upon myself to force my kid to learn at home, even at the cost of what little free time I have during weekdays.

The first couple of days when I'd sit him down and work on his spelling/reading, he'd try to frick off after a few minutes, and I could tell this shtick was fairly well rehearsed to get out of doing the work. Warned him once to stay focused, then got cuffed on the back of the head the second he started up again, which was a complete culture shock to him. Told him to wisen the frick up and pay attention to his work or the situation is going to get worse. Got assertive with him, some tears were had for being forced to do the work. When it was all said and done and he was a bit of a wreck, I tucked him in bed and told him I was very proud of him, and that he kicked butt today despite it being challenging (always end the day with a smile for your kids if possible). Every following night there has been almost no complaining, and he got 9/10 on his spelling test that very week I started working with him.

TL;DR: School system is fricked, "gentle parenting" is a crock of shit creating entitled idiots, and 30min of learning at home is better spent that 8 hours of fricking odd at school with whatever model modern teachers are using.

This is like portraying 19th century America as a place where slaves were happy and loved working for “inclusivity”

In reality ancient Greece and Rome were extremely misogynistic civilizations, that would make the Taliban look like feminists. Even slaves were higher up on the social ladder than a woman.

And things happened in their history that lead to them being this way

If you know how these massive games are made, you realize that this woke explanation is just a cover for this kind of thing being out of their control.
They either made 1 set of child assets and ran it through Houdini, or didn't even do that and just shrunk down adult models, but either way they're procedurally produced and included in a black box.
They can't just add "if(male and !slave) {goToSchool()}" because those tags don't exist, and that's work they don't have time for.

That's what a lot of people, especially non-Americans, don't understand about American schools. Our schools aren't being used for education, they're being used as psych wards, therapists offices, soup kitchens, etc. School is where we hide the poverty and violence. They need to start building special "schools" that are equipped to handle the needs of all these fricked up kids. No algebra, no Shakespeare, no chemistry, just therapy, social workers, and guards. The kids will be trained to make change and mop floors and then they'll be helped with job placement in the community. Also, drug testing.

The problem with modern history education, is that everything is a survey course and time is always burning. There's too much to cover and not enough time to follow the threads back down to where they need to go find out the real root causes. If history teachers were given the chance, I'm sure they'd leap to cover very niche, yet relevant history, but often, they pigeonholed into teaching 20 different battles that won the Civil War without getting into bushwhackers, Native American allies, or union holdout conclaves

The problem with history in schools is you cant teach anything interesting cause none of its on the test, you have to teach what they tell you which is the most surface level boring forgetable nothing. The problem with history in general is its all horseshit. If you bullshit hard enough with enough fake sources and gaslighting you can make whatver you want true. If you are bad at bullshiting even if you are right nobody gives a shit. Its constantly being rewritten. Fricking culturewar and politcal correctness turned it into pointless crap that might as well be fiction. Cant get a job with this worthless degree. Yay history channel ancient aliens.

Probably just a teacher trying to make learning fun. Do you know how many teachers just play fricking John Green/Crash Course videos for their classes? How is this any worse than that? How history should be taught is probably the most vexing question in public education. All parties accept that
    >history isn't useful in any real sense to the average person
    >but we also can't let kids just not know anything about the past
So what do we do? Does a kid who's going to grow up to be an alcoholic construction worker need to know anything about the 30 Years War? Does a kid who goes home and gets his ass kicked by his moms boyfriend everyday need to know anything about the Cold War when he's going to be lucky if he's able to avoid jail once he's an adult? History needs to be made relevant to the average person and it needs to be experiential. A good history teacher who manages to crack that nut is literally the best teacher in the school.

What we need is revamping the education system to be more oriented towards stories with characters and feelings than simply a chart of events, dates, and laws.

Telling someone about reconstruction is going to be so impersonal and so disconnected with students, but telling them about the blood-feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys might resonate them to an animalistic sense of, "Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Frick those guys" and would also help them understand world politics that come from these sort of events. You can like the idea of those sort of blood-feuds that arise from local guerilla warfare to the sort of dynamic politics of the middle east and help give better frame of reference by making these personal stories more broadly applicable.

        Anonymous

Well that's the problem with the culture war shit. Reconstruction can be super interesting but there's no way to talk about it without being accused of "being political" or "making things racial." Like no shit it was political and racial. You had millions of slaves that suddenly weren't slaves anymore and a bunch of ex-confederates who were fighting a race war insurgency. Meanwhile the country was, legislatively, being totally revamped. If teachers make it interesting, they'll just get in trouble.

Humans evolved for over 20,000 years to play or work hard labor for 14 hours a day between the age of 2-30. Kids not being able to sit down straight isn't unusual. They either need to be beaten and forced to sit down or have them engaged using texts, visuals, and audio to hold their attention. Honestly, I don't blame the kids for not wanting to read a text book. How many times have you sincerely read an entire chapter of a text book without skimming?

It is interesting, but the education system is built on the theory of shotgun learning. You blast kids with courses where they are tested on a little about everything and come out knowing nothing, but you might get one or two kids out of 120 hooked on science by showing them a model of the solar system only for them to be redditgays.

              >extremely poor governing of territories remote from the capital leaving to them either severely under-paying their taxes or skipping out on it almost entirely, blatant nepotism ensuring that only those with money instead of skill get anywhere

I volunteer with kids and stick with a group for several years through middle school, and the introduction of a smart phone into a kid's life has always marked an obvious downward shift in their life. Each one of them becomes obsessed with watching short-form videos like TikTok or Youtube Shorts, gets sucked into trash-tier microtransaction mobile games, and gets into some kind of weird Discord drama. Most of them also get hooked on porn immediately and it really messes with them having access to it 24/7. It is absolutely the worst parenting decision you can make to give your kid unrestricted phone access. Your kid is not gonna need a cell phone in an emergency. They can ask literally any adult around them, and someone will let them borrow a phone. Just have them memorize your number. If they're older, give them a phone but lock it down some until they can handle it.

Depends on the parents, like everything. My wife was homeschooled and she ended up great. But I've met a lot of her home schooled friends, and some of them ended up as complete losers. They had parents that were religious fanatics and used this garbage-tier curriculum that doesn't teach real science/history, or their parents didn't actually give a shit and let them half-ass everything so they really just skipped some of their education. My wife was a commended-level national merit scholar, but several of her old friends from co-op couldn't get into any colleges and still live with their parents doing various shit-tier dead end low-wage jobs, or don't even work. As a parent, home schooling is way more work than public school, and the outcome is about the same if you just help your kids with homework and make sure they're doing all their shit. And public school isn't necessarily dangerous, but it does often suck for some kids. I was in public school and mostly hated it from 5th-8th grade because I got bullied a lot for sucking at sports and being a know-it-all turd, so I probably would've really liked being home schooled those years, and remember even asking my mom if I could do that back then.

There are a ton more good resources for it these days though, so it isn't nearly as rare now. I do not recommend doing it if politics is your reason though. I've watched several people worry about how "woke" their school is when in reality 99% of the teachers are Christian that will openly talk about their faith with students and the schoolboard is a bunch of conservative business owners.

Not really. My teacher showed us a movie based on the book Schindler's Ark that was awarded the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction in 1983

Ubisoft puts a lot of effort into recreating evironments, and I know for a fact that at least Asscreed Odyseey has a museum mode where you just walk around environments to inspect them for educational purposes.

    >English classes now have required gaming instead of required reading
    >generations of kids grow up to hate games because they are forced to play old games as homework
    >generations of kids grow up not hating books and will pick up old books of their own violation for fun
    Society is healing

    Typical 'cool teacher'.
Mine spend less time doing class and more time showing us anime/action movies. Also, he surrounded himself with the female students.

A good way to give kids a visualization of what it would have looked like it.
